One of the top 2 buffet I've been to within the last year (and I've visited about a dozen buffets of this type all over Northern California). It has a very large, comfortable and well kept interior. The staff there is super friendly. I believe it was opened fairly recently. The food of course is the highlight. An incredibly wide selection of Chinese stir fry, grilled meat (Korean short ribs, Chinese style sparerib, prime rib, sausage), Japanese sushi, Vietnamese Pho, Mongolian bbq, fruits, free drinks and dessert. A lot of the food I have not seen offered at other buffets of similar style or price point. Unlike other comments I've read, I found the food very tasty. This buffet is more than 1.5 hours from where I live (I live only 15 min from Daly Buffet, which is average at best and ridiculously expensive for dinner) but I would not hesitate to drive all the way to Salinas whenever I want a special treat. I also have no problem paying the 10% service charge up front - they were so attentive when it comes to cleaning out plates. I have to tip anyway so why not? read more

This review is not coming from a place of criticism on the food itself. Actually, the fusion of countless dishes is very exciting considering Salinas is an immense are of multi-cultural demographics. It's awesome to see that everyone has a place at the table here. That is, if you can manage to get past the mean-girl brigade that is the front of staff first. My senior mother and I came to dine at Gohan for the first time today and had an uncomfortable experience with the hostess. To start, we had to wait some minutes to be rung up. I believe the main cashier needed to be relieved for break? They had us wait while they called for back up multiple times........despite a group of 5 hostesses standing only a few feet away who could not be bothered to help. Eventually, one of them (Ahlyah) came over to ring us up. My mother requested her senior discount be applied, to which Ahlyah asked to see ID. We were a bit confused but as someone who works in customer service - I get it, policy is policy. What was not acceptable, and that I still feel was incredibly condescending, was that when my mother presented her ID, Ahlyah insisted that we show her WHERE on the ID was her listed birthday. It felt like she made a big show of it but she couldn't even be bothered to check? I ended up having to hold it up to her and tell her to look in the corner and she'd see it. She took her time then before finally giving us our receipt. Ultimately, it was such a weird experience. To know that on top of having to deal with combative energy, I am then being charged a "service fee". No thank you. read more

I genuinely like this buffet and it's something that was needed to fill the Northridge mall. Each day was clean and you could always find employees cleaning and restocking items as needed. I also think they had a great variety of food. For example, I've never seen a pho station before at a buffet, so it's really cool to see that option there. I also think their seafood section is one of the best for buffets that I've seen. And the sushi is actually pretty good!! it was also a really cool seeing a seafood boil there with actual crawfish. It depends what your looking for at all you can eat buffet. The sushi is fresh & delicious, the Chinese section is decent, the pho is awesome you get a big beef bone ! Now that's incredible. I would have given a 5 star but the ice cream is terrible low grade quality taste is fake. To make it better maybe a soft serve machine with real ice cream ingredients. read more

Visited the 2nd Friday of grand opening. Very open dining area with plenty of walkway. Food area was clean, their staffs are very alert to refill the entrees that are low. The entrees coming out are fresh, many ethnic food selections. The fresh fruits & desserts selection are well planned, simple seasonal fruits and staff constantly refresh them as they ran low. I give this place a 5 star. For the first time in a long time I actually like this buffet spot in Salinas usually don't like buffet because of the food. This place has a lot of variety of food options and they were good, also they have time next to the food and name. And I really like that, they keep it fresh at all times. And the people were nice they checked on you to see how you doing. The place is clean, for now. Hopefully they keep it fresh clean like that at all time. Definitely recommend this place to anyone. Servers are all nice and pleasant, food selection is abundant, the facility looks nice, clean and neat. Comparing this to the gohan in Gilroy this one is way better, more food selection and I would say better food. Comparing to other establishment in the area 30$ per person for this much food is better than burger fries and a drink that is 20-25$. Though I get it that why pay the service charge up front? But still 30$ per person seems like a okay price. Pretty sure if you go to other resto an appetizer, main course and a drink is way more than 30$ already not including the tip and if u add dessert that easy 40$ but that's just 4 kinds of food unlike in a buffet you can try them all. Anyways that's my honest opinion, bottom line I can see myself coming back here, yeah the unwritten rule about the service charge sucks but for people who will try just think of it that the price is 30$/person P.S the gohan Gilroy even charge for fountain drink, here they don't it's all included unless they mess up when they charge us hehe read more

When we arrived the line was out the door, but the wait went by quickly. We were standing in line for 10 minutes before we got seated. It's absolutely gorgeous inside and giant! There is lots of walking space once you're inside. They had a great variety of foods to choose from and were quick to refill the food stations when it was running low. We loved everything we ate but the star of the show, the crab legs they were so tasty. The batter and seasoning they use for it was finger lickin good! The bathroom was wide, clean and had many stalls. They also offered free mouthwash, feminine products, etc which was a lovely touch. We will absolutely return back here. Salinas Gohan is 1000% better than Gilroy Gohan. read more

Recently, I came here with a close friend. The interior is beautiful and gave me the impression that the food and service would be excellent, but unfortunately, that was not the case. The food was noticeably cold, and the orange chicken was very chewy. I also tried the pho, but it lacked flavor and had very limited garnish options, which made it disappointing. I observed employees checking the food by simply moving it around with tongs rather than properly checking temperatures with a food thermometer, which raised concerns about food safety. There is also a $3.99 service charge, which was confusing because the customer service was lacking. Unlike other buffets I've visited, no employee checked on our table throughout the meal. Our used plates continued piling up, making the table feel crowded, and they were not cleared until the very end. What ultimately brought my rating down to 2 stars was seeing an employee enter the restroom while still wearing her apron. Seeing food-service attire worn inside the bathroom felt very unsanitary and concerning. Overall, this restaurant has potential because the atmosphere is appealing, but the staff would benefit from additional training and a stronger focus on customer service and food safety practices. read more

Here's the good: The place is big and clean. The food is good and the fruit is fresh. I like that they have a Mexican food bar. They pick up the empty plates on a timely basis. The cashier was very friendly. The price to eat here is very reasonable. Here's the bad: It was 2:40 on a Friday and we asked to be seated at a booth. They checked and we were told that we could only be seated at a table because they were saving the booths for "big parties". We were a party of four. There were about 10 or more empty booths. When we left an hour later, those same booths were still empty. What happened to first come first served. I didn't feel that they valued us as customers. They valued potential customers more. I thought that this buffet served fried calamari. We asked about four different food workers at different stations and nobody knew what we were talking about. I asked if there was any tartar sauce for the fish and again nobody knew anything about tartar sauce. These are things that Saqura Buffet has on hand. I looked for teriyaki sauce and I couldn't find it. I saw soy sauce but no teriyaki sauce. I went to get a fork and I got the last fork in the fork holder. Someone should be filling them as they run down. I wish you had more variety in your desserts. Cake would be nice. Chocolate, lemon or carrot cake would be great. I will probably interchange going to Saqura and here for different reasons. read more

i enjoyed most of the food. my favorite part was the pho bar. the broth was delicious and they were able to give me the big beef bone. which was soooo good! the meat literally fell off the bone! the only thing i thought that didn't look too appetizing was the taco bar. they do need to step it up when it comes to the desserts. everything i tried at the dessert bar was all dry. i decided to create a dessert myself by getting a few of the fried bananas and added the vanilla ice cream on top. now that was delicious! read more

Need to separate roasted beef ham and pork, not to close or using the same utensils knives tongs etc. not a good idea for religious people or people with allergies. This buffet had such a great atmosphere, very spacious and it honestly gave off that upscale Vegas buffet vibe. The layout was open and inviting, with plenty of room to move around without feeling crowded. The variety was impressive, especially with the sushi bar, pho station, and grill all in one place. This buffet needs so much improvement. The food here was terrible experience for my family and I. The food here was flavorless. The chef who cook your food served me shrimp that was still raw, along with a sausage still raw inside. Everything appears and tastes like it's been sitting there for a large amount of time where everything starts turning mushy giving a nasty taste and texture. This place started with many people in line to it being emptier by the day. I understand now why people stopped attending for a meal. I went on opening day, and the sushi made me sick. The service was horrible as well. The manager Leina was yelling at everyone as if they had no feeling and was side eyeing me and my partner the entire time we did not eat comfortably at all. I peeped the kitchen as well, it did not look the best and they just opened as well which is ridiculous. You would think the service and food would be better for the first month at least!
