Probably one of the most frustrating experiences trying to give someone my business. Strung me along for 3 weeks waiting for a quote, set up an in home estimate and then acted like they hadn't offered. Had to constantly call and follow up, only to never receive a quote, and then was turned down for business. Stronger communication would have been appreciated and if that type of service is what's indicative of what the move would have been like, doesn't bode well. Day of move was exceptional: these guys work fast and hard, and their goal is to make sure the customer is happy -- breaking down and reconstructing furniture, laying carpets, placing every item exactly where you wish. At end of day, they walked me through every item on the bill, totally seamless and no surprises. These guys, Marcos' crew, were exceptional during our whole moving process. Mario and the boys helped my aged parents of (80 and 75) pack, disassemble, move, and reassemble and all of our furniture, clothes and boxes in a very efficient and timely manner. More importantly, they were very accommodating to all of my parents needs, and were willing to rearrange furniture locations without complaint. My experience with this moving service was terrible from the get-go. They gave me an initial quote which ended up being half what they charged me. In the middle of moving I had to ask the guys to raise their level because I noticed they were taking too long to carry and load stuff, they were chatty and telling jokes. That's a nice attitude IF you're doing your due diligence with the job, but they weren't. This was a garden unit we moved out from and the distance to their truck wasn't bad. They took forever to carry and load, they overran the estimate on the first leg of the move - how can that even happen?? We moved to a 3rd floor which was the tough part, they did a better job there but the damage had been done in terms of time spent on the first part of our move. I honored the hours they spent on the move and paid double the estimate they gave me before the move BUT really I was expecting the owner to call me back and either give me a refund or some kind of credit for the huge miss in numbers, HUGE. To my dismay they weren't even willing to accept they did anything wrong, I explained to the detail what I had seen from their movers on the first part of the move, I even called them during the move to tell them what was happening, left a voicemail, they never picked up my calls during the move. The owner, Mr. Ramirez said, "we never give refunds to anyone because then we would have to do that for every customer complaining of running over estimates". Well, then don't give estimates! and you know what guys, there is always a first time for everything if you see that your movers spent double the time you initially estimated! Mr. Ramirez should've been embarrassed and apologetic about what happened with my move - he was none, it actually sounded like he thinks this is just something that can happen and it is out of his control. I guess so. After a couple months I also realized they broke a TV that they didn't pack correctly, I remember very well that they just wrapped it in moving blankets. The TV got pinned with something and the screen was messed up and broken when I turned it on for the first time after the move it had to be thrown away. This is what can happen to you if you hire Ramirez movers. But maybe you'll be lucky enough not to experience this, maybe you won't, it is up to you. I would stay away from this services if you have to budget your move and stay very close to your numbers AND if you like your things to arrive intact. Cheers. read more

They also took in stride the need to use (and wait for) a manually operated freight elevator. Marcos, the owner, and I had a disagreement regarding the cleaning service that Ramirez Movers hired for me on the DAY OF MY MOVE. The cleaners came in on my move day and I was told by Ramierz Movers they were efficient and professional and would be there for a couple of hours (I was paying hourly). The cleaners were there for 3 1/2 hours and not close to being done and one of them was talking on the phone and cleaning. I talked to Marcos, he got very upset, the end result being I paid the cleaners and they left. Marcos was soon to arrive when I noticed the cleaners broke a window. Ramirez moved us back in July and I meant to write a review back then. Going through some paperwork I found our receipt and remember the great experience we had with them and that it would be disrespectful not to give then a good review. They moved us from Chicago to Iowa. We selected them out of four movers that I got estimates from because they were highly professional, polite, and gave us a very fair estimate along with a good strategy for moving my family of 6 knowing it would be a two day job. Those two days it was hot, there were lots of stairs involved and even a piano. I never once heard a complaint. The whole team work hard, was polite, and efficient. I was amazed that almost everything got here in tact. An item or two substaibed a little damage due to travel, and they alerted me to it. This was my sixth move in Chicago all the other moves were within miles of each other and had suffered more damage than the move 3 hours away. We have moved five times in the past 8 years including two cross country moves, two local moves, and this one from WI to IL. We used one of those discount moving companies for our first long distance move. We will never do that again. The price kept changing. As soon as they had our credit card number, they all became unreachable. Most of our boxes came damaged (some with footprints from where they kicked and broke our boxes). The second cross country move was with a full-service company who packed us up themselves and did all of the work. It was great, but expensive. We hired Ramirez movers for a move from WI to IL. These guys are even better than the full service company we hired. They were efficient, professional, and friendly. They covered all of our furniture with blankets and moved it carefully. With over 10,000 pounds of items (based on a prior move weight), the only damage was a small chip to the paint of our crib. I think that's pretty amazing given the quantity of items moved! Fidel gave us a quote over text message after we provided him with an itemized inventory list. The quote was between $500-$2000 LESS than the other companies we contacted, and it was only about $500 more than we priced it out had we done it all ourselves with a UHaul. He actually kept to that price! There were no hidden fees! Toward the end of the day (I think the move took longer than he was expecting), a few extra guys showed up to help out, and he didn't expect any additional money even though three extra guys worked for about 1-2 hours. Naturally, we tipped them too, but they deserved it! These guys are the best movers we have ever worked with, and we are customers for life. We would give them 6 stars if we could. I echo the sentiments of the other reviewers. Due to an excellent experience with Ramirez Movers, I have used them for subsequent moves. My first move with them was on the coldest day in February about 5 years ago from a 2nd floor walk up to a 3rd floor walk up. Fidel and Marcos personally did the work and were efficient, careful, polite, and helpful. They were moving A LOT of furniture and boxes in sub-zero weather into a building where the landlord required furniture to be moved in up the exterior back stairs. Not one thing was broken, nor was their any damage to either building. Fidel had provided a quote and stuck to that quote. There were no hidden fees or any other unexpected issues. Fidel and Marcos were on time the day of the move too. They are an honest, family owned and operated business I'm happy to recommend to friends and family.
