Great coffee spot right next to the Libertyville Metra stop. I missed my train in the morning so instead of punishing myself and getting all mad, I treated myself to a brown butter latte and a cranberry orange scone. After all it is a Friday! There are many things on the winter menu that I would love to try next time I am back. The scone was huge and very flavorful. And the brown butter latte was a nice warm treat on a cold Chicago morning. The employees behind the counter were nice and friendly and helped me decide my drink for the morning. It was between the miso caramel latte or the brown butter latte, and I went with the brown butter. Nice chill coffee spot with great options. They have a nice cozy couch in the front and heard they have a nice big sitting area in the back that I didn't have time to check out. Til next time! read more

I have been going to Hansa for many years. I would make it a point to go and pick up beans to take out of town as gifts. Part of the experience was selecting the beans and getting information on them. Today, I did not have a great customer service experience. I asked the barista a question about the beans. She answered me with a look of annoyance that made me feel under appreciated. The interaction was very unfriendly. I made a purchase of one bag of beans because I had promised my daughter I would be bringing beans. I would have purchased another, but changed my mind. The cashier who rang up my order was wonderful, very cheerful and super friendly. As I left the store, I decided to go down the street to another coffee roaster store. I have been visiting that store in between my visits to Hansa. It will become my first choice when I am in the area. Customer service is key to where I will choose to make purchases. read more

Stopped in for a beverage before work this morning. I've been to Hansa many times in the past, many many years ago. This was my first time in about 7 years. Same industrial feel inside with lots of seating and work space. Great as a remote working space or a meeting with friends. Expansive menu. All of the usuals for such a craft coffee shop but they also have a great selection pastries, some of which are vegan and gluten free. They've even got the ingredients for each item posted on the side of the display. Their website and social media is very backdated. I couldn't find anything recent in terms of their current menu in order to plan ahead before coming but the woman behind the register was very helpful. read more

Swung by after a meeting and wow instant fall vibes . Super easy parking (huge win), and the space itself is stunning warm wood, soft leather, and that perfect "get cozy & stay awhile" energy. Grabbed a chocolate chip scone and a Potomac cookie (both ), then went all in with a triple-shot Cortado that was smooth, rich, and perfectly balanced. The staff? Total pros fast, friendly, and actually look like they enjoy being there. The back patio was buzzing with people working, chatting, and soaking it all in. I love this place! Whenever I am in the northern Chicago area abdc need a place to have coffee and work I find my way to Hansa. Hansa hands down has the best baristas who are not only good at making you your brew, but are also genuinely some of the nicest and friendliest people. They care and it shows. There is also delicious pastries available and for gluten free patrons such as myself have a great selection of very tasty gf cookies, muffins, and bloody bars to choose from. If you love their coffee you can also purchase fresh roasted beans to take home. Hansa beats Starbucks any day all day. I've heard wonderful things about Hansa Coffee so it was a must stop while in the area. This coffee shop was the happening spot for midmorning on a Saturday! Parking was a bit difficult but otherwise, it proved to not be a problem. The coffee shop itself is broken into two spaces: entry with ordering/coffee counter and large seating space. Having these be separate allowed the ordering counter to not be crowded even though many people were visiting. It took me a bit to digest the menu on what to order. In the meantime, the staff member told us how they make all their own syrups and baked good items in house! I ended up getting a honey lavender latte and my fiancé got a chai (our go tos). The drinks were ready in about 5 minutes. Served at a great temp and packed with flavor. The chai was about 60% sweet and 40% spiced but balanced well. My latte had a good roast flavor, nice caffeine level, and flavors were subtle. We both thoroughly enjoyed our drinks and would certainly come back when passing through the area! read more

Cute little coffee shop in Libertyville. I came here before taking the Metra back into the city. It's a nice coffee shop, very homey vibe and friendly employees. I had a specialty latte (don't remember now what it was, but it was delicious!) and a scone. Prices seemed maybe a little high-I'm used to paying those prices in the city, not the suburbs. But, I know things have been a little dicey lately so it wouldn't turn me off from going back. read more

The latte was 6/10, there was no taste of blueberry and a bit milky (not sure if they got my order wrong). The muffin was good, 8.5/10. Not too sweet and soft with strong hints of blueberry + Ambience: They mainly have outside seatings in the garage (so the AC part of the cafe is separated). The essence of this place is beautiful. It's a garage turned into a coffee shop. I love it! I walked in and was greeted by the friendliest staff and ready to answer questions. I checked out Hansa for the first time with a few friends not too long ago and we had a nice time. We all got different drinks, but the one I got was called the Dr. Hansa. It's a unique blend of espresso and Dr. Pepper. Two things I love separately, but together, just was not my favorite. The next time I go I will be sure to get a more traditional beverage and I think it would be great. I tried my wife's drink which was phenomenal. Overall, great little spot, wish they had a bit more seating but it's a small coffee shop, so I think grab and go is just more of the vibe here! read more

Wonderful coffee place. It has only one comfortable seating area right at the entrance but it has a huge hall where folks can sit and work / study. They have good collection of coffee. We ordered Bourbon Pecan Latte and Blueberry Muffin Latte. I requested for extra hot and girl who was making my coffee was very considerate and kind and made sure she gave us extra hot coffee. Unfortunately, the guy who took my order was not a kind of pleasing personality. We loved both the lattes we ordered. I am always looking for a a coffee shop to try other than the usual chains. I was in the area and decided to try this place. They are located near the Metra in an older, industrial looking garage type building. The store is much larger than I thought with a large area with tables and chairs. The vibe is cool and calm. I wish I had more time to just sit and take it all in. The coffee is from small roasters and they sell it in the store . The staff were very knowledgeable and did not rush me as I was taking it all in and trying to decide what to try. They also have a wonderful selection of bakery items. I tried the chocolate scone and it was moist, fresh and the chocolate was rich. It was large enough that I was unable to finish it in one sitting. They have another location in Lake Bluff and will be opening one in Vernon Hills soon. I am definitely looking forward to a return visit. read more

Hey there I went the morning of 9/30/2024 and a young woman with a bandanna was helping me. I normally love Hansa and plan to be back with an updated review hopefully- but I simply asked for a SPLASH of half & half with 2 pumps of SF vanilla with my small coldbrew. That's it :) She explained that the creamer etc. was self service, and I asked if she could just add it to the drink- as their creamer cannisters always make a small mess at the self service station because of the way they pour. I even said "I'm sorry, I always make a small spill/mess when I do it, could you please add it to the cold brew?" To which she responded "Well if I DO IT, it's going to be an added charge and processed as a LATTEE". Really? To simply pour a SPLASH of half and half in the drink. I spend $140+ dollars a month to get simple coffee and scones or some sort of pastry and you cant be bothered to pour half and half in my drink? THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE IN THE STORE YOU WERE NOT BUSY??? I realize I sound like a complete Karen. But like the comedian Bill Burr says... "I pay you 100% of the money , for 100% of the food". That's WILD that she wanted to charge me for pouring a SPLASH of half and half in the drink. I even tip EVERYTIME I go in lol. For 30 seconds worth of work. I'm a hairstylist, I work in service. It's like she forgot the assignment. It's such a small thing, it wasn't personal, I just didn't want to make a mess. and LOL GUESS what happened, the freaking half and half spilled again when i tried to use it.... The reason I'm giving three stars this time is that I stayed to get some work done and realized there's no door on the public customer bathroom. In my photos you can see there are closets around the toilet and no door. It's literally just a hallway with a toilet at the end. It's also behind the counter where you order coffee? I'd been waiting to try Hansa's lattes for some time, after seeing pics of their artistic presentation. I finally got a chance to visit on March 24. I knew nothing about Hansa prior to my visit, and it was not at all what I expected. When we walked in, there were two friendly baristas behind the counter who patiently answered our questions. I ordered a mocha latte and my mom ordered an Irish cream latte. And we bought a giant chocolate chip cookie to share. Once our drinks were ready (foam hearts on top), we carried them into the adjacent seating room. The coffeehouse has garage doors along the exterior wall and small tables on the opposite wall, where several people were working on laptops. The tables were well spaced and though many were occupied, the room was really quiet on this particular Friday afternoon. Now, the food and drink. The cookie was large, thick, soft and chewy. It was easy to break in half and easy to finish, though I would have liked it even more chocolatey. And while our drinks were nicely presented, neither of us loved ours. The mocha was very subtle -- it tasted more like bitter coffee than mocha. It would have been better if it was sweeter and more chocolatey. And my mom said her Irish cream latte was OK, but had no trace of mint flavor, which she'd assumed it would have. I'd probably stop back in if I were in the area since the staff was great and the environment was interesting, but wouldn't go out of my way to return. And if I do, I'll try a non-mocha beverage next time. read more

Really good, smooth coffee. I would venture to say it is the best cup of coffee you can get north of the city. The place was packed when we got there at 10 on a Saturday morning and so we had to wait a bit for our coffee, but they have plenty of seating and most are there to get coffee to go. I bought a bag of dark roast but unfortunately it's not as good when brewed at home and not as dark as I'd like it. I had to mix it with some French roast to get a nice dark rich flavor. You can get a good sized bag for $15. read more
