Been a customer for years and was please except for the past two issues: 1. A/C was not working and called for service, the best the could do was 10 days out ( this was mid summer) bought a window unit to get by those 10 days). 2. Recently called for service in April, said they could get to me on May 13 between 10-1 which understanding it's their busy time with maintenance I said ok. However something came up that I called to see if they could do me later in the day ( this is two weeks before my scheduled day and time) and they said they couldn't so my next question was when could the reschedule and they said it would be another two weeks. I called another service and they were here three days later ordered parts and three more days later my problem was solved. They now have a new customer. read more

Don't make my mistakes. They cost me $1,550 over and above what a fair charge would have been, I was later to learn. My mistakes: 1: Not getting at least an estimate for the cost of the job in advance. Insist that the person assess the job and then tell you what it will cost. 2. Demand an invoice and a contract before the worker leaves. In my case, the electrician claimed he couldn't print out either one from his tablet. I don't have experience with a tablet, but I doubt that this is true. 3. Don't sign anything you can't read beforehand. This sounds elementary, and it is, but I still fell into this trap because I trusted the man, who had me sign his tablet even though I wasn't able to read a word on it. I should have refused. The bill for his simple 30 minutes of labor turned out to be a whopping $2,150. I learned later that a fair charge would have been $600. read more

Told me I'd have a plumber at my house at 10:00AM. Called at 12:00, they said he would be there by 2:00. called again and they said he would be there in 50 Minutes. Called at 5:00 and an incredibly rude guy told me they couldn't reach my technician and would I like to reschedule for tomorrow. I TOOK A DAY OFF FROM WORK FOR NOTHING! Will never use again. PLEASE WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR ANYTHING. Their customer service is THE WORST I have ever seen in almost 40 years on this earth. They schedule appointments and don't show up. They change appointments without telling you. They show up outside the appointment window without any notice and expect you to accommodate them. The technicians have such little knowledge of basic HVAC that it's insane. The ONLY technician that has ever fixed anything for us is Joseph Waldron. He is great, but every single other technician either doesn't speak English or has no knowledge of HVAC. I have taken days off from work waiting for them to show up and no one comes and no one notifies you of anything. If I didn't have a warranty with this company I would NEVER use them again. I have a 15 year old lennox boiler. I had a Gold Medal tech check out my boiler as I do every year. the tech ( name is Dave) said the boiler needed $5640 of repair work. he then told me I should buy a new unit since he said it's not worth paying that much money for an older unit and he would have his sales dept contact me.m ASAP. He spoke with a sense of urgency. I had a different HVAC company send a very experienced tech for a second opinion . this tech did some routine maintenance and pronounced the boiler to be fine. The cost was $200. Gold Medal pushed me into buying a brand new A/C system last summer when my unit failed. Fortunately I had enough sense to question them this time. Since Gold Medal took over Design Air they push exhorblrant prices for questionable repairs and try to rush you into buying a new unit. Gold Medal is a company of thieves. Gold Medal took over from design air a few years ago. Design air installed my furnace and made repairs to it. This year gold medal came for the yearly inspection cleaning and told me it was running too hot. They offerred no explanation as to why it was running too hot (didn't look for the underlying reason) and simply said they wouldn't touch it and I should replace my 12 year old furnace for which I was pretty diligent in yearly inspections and cleaning. When you have a company that won't bother to look at the underlying issues and simply jump to needing a replacement, offering no option for repair - well how would you like a company that won't repair a unit. They took over Designair and Designair installed my furnace. They should be responsible for the work and offer options besides replacing the whole system. Walk away from this company. read more

The worst plumber ever!!! Rude, overpriced and argumentative!!! I didn't know what to do and ended up paying 3 times what it should have cost.... again the worst thing was this guy attitude!!! He came up with $660 plus tax to replace the water supply hose and when I questioned how he came up with that price for a 5 minute job he got more arrogant and started to tell me that they need to pay the employees, bills, insurance, etc!!! I had the EXACT same situation as Mike S. and Anthony R. The Technician Bill came over promptly and diagnosed the issue, an Aquastat relay, and presented me two options $1500 to replace the part or $90 for the visit. I mistakenly trusted the technician, paid the price, and he fixed it in 1 hour. He did not have to drain any water or unfreeze any pipes. The technician also failed to provide a receipt. I looked up the price afterwards and discovered the item (Aquastat relay) costs $200. For 3 days I called the company to complain and was finally refunded $600, with the representative saying they can charge any price they want! If they had charged a fair price, I would definitely use them in the future. This company IS a sorry bunch of thieves. In retrospect I should have taken the advice of the prior Yelp reviews. I had the same experience as every other reviewer since 2020. Which is sad, because we had a relationship with DesignAir going back over 20 years. They installed our central AC in our old house. Unfortunately, they are now a different company. They charge outrageous rates, in our case 4x(!!) the going rate, capitalizing on the misplaced trust of the homeowner. Additionally, the repair did not even work and the company won't stand behind the repair, claiming the system is too old for work to be warrantied. Although, this didn't stop them from selling us the "Priority Partner Plan" whose main feature is its warrantee coverage. This company's business model is based more or extracting cash from unsuspecting homeowners, rather than providing service. Subsequently, I got a "real" AC guy in there and he showed me how the DesignAir "technician" misconfigured the wiring so that the fan was rotating BACKWARDS, so obviously it was not cooling down the coolant. (This is the work the company would not warranty.) Avoid this company - DesignAir, and its parent company - Gold Medal Service! read more

My father in law got his AC motor fixed and the company charged him 10x for the AC part not including the labor. That's extortion. 2x the price is understandable but 10x. That's just wrong. Taking advantage of people during hard times is just bad business. Go elsewhere for your AC repair needs. We called the company and they said they will get back to us and they never did. BEWARE. Gold medal (Design Air) installed a 22k generator at our house. We were told we had a 7 year warranty, but we only received a 5 year warranty. I called the Hillburn office many times (5-10) and spoke to many people and they all said the woman in charge would call me back to correct this. No one ever called me back and I spoke to Generac directly and they corrected the situation. If Hillburn was responsive I would have asked them to perform a 1 year maintenance, but I will never contact them again. I contacted Benson Ver Hage Electric, midland park for the maintenance and Mark did a great job, I will NEVER contact Gold Medal again. read more

This review for plumbing services The truck that came was from "Gold Medal Service", not Design Air who I have dealt with successfully in the past. The workman was looking to preform unnecessary work at outrageous prices; RIP-OFF ARTISTS! I called for an issue they should have known by my phone description to be a problem in the service provider, not my home. They first tried to check to see if they could con me in to replacing my hot water heater. When they found out the unit it was new, they moved on to another con. The first verbal quote was USD 1,550, I said it was too high so they changes it to USD 800 verbally. I told still to high and to please provide a written quote, it cam back as USD 1,300. I told them no way and sent him packing. I called a more reputable plumber and described the problem. He told me problem is with utility and he would not come because there was nothing he could do about it. The problem cleared on it's own without any work on my home. read more

This is not the company to service your airconditioning needs. They schedule appointments and don't show up. It took two weeks to get a simple motor for the louvers on a fugitsu. My airconditoning was out and it took 10 days to inform me. They have multiple people working in service who have no idea what the others are doing. read more

Came out as scheduled. Tech was good. Tried to OVERCHARGE RIDICULOUSLY. I called 2x and asked for the part # for the repair and was told they would get back to me after they quoted me over $850 for what turned out to be a $250 part and that was just the part. Design Air had been hired based upon their good online reviews. I now see that those reviews were a few years old and the more recent reviews tell a different story. Each visit to my home was costly - and the work done was always diagnosed as an urgently needed repair but was, in fact unnecessary. This year, I was told that I needed to spend $1,600 in critical repairs. The tech told me that he could get it down to $1,400.00. I was told that I could pay it off in 12 monthly installments. I gave them my credit card. Yesterday I received a Gold Medal Service credit card, which had already charged me $1,600.00 before it had even been activated. I cancelled the unwanted card, disputed the charge, and am now dealing with Gold Medal who "has to look into the matter" making it clear that they now plan to gaslight me into believing that : I insisted on unnecessary repairs, I insisted on paying $1,600 in full and not the $1.400 quote broken out into 12 monthly payments, and that I insisted upon a GOLD MEDAL SERVICE credit card. Used them for an emergency diagnosis late on a Friday night when my Furnace stopped working (isn't this when all major appliances stop working?). I got a text with a picture and name of Dan H, the tech that was assigned to my job, when he was on his way - this was great because I knew when Dan was going to arrive, and it provided good peace of mind knowing who was going to arrive and what they looked like. Dan diagnosed the problem quickly and provided a few different options for getting my system up and going again. I'd recommend EB Design Air at least for emergency diagnostics. read more

Very pleased with Design Air who took care of me first when my AC went down on one of the hottest days of the year. This was an after hours call and the technician had me up and running within 30 minutes of his arrival. Secondly, I just had a new furnace installed by them and their crew was professional, neat and great throughout the install and had it completed before the quoted time. I get a knock on my door and when I open it there's a very agitated and angry Design Air employee standing there. He with an attitude asked me why I forgot I had an appointment. I said I never made an appointment and he proceeded to huff and puff and carry on. I called my husband to clarify we did not have an appointment and he said they had already come last week. The employee began to raise his voice and yell "wow this is great so you don't want it done?!?!" With a nasty attitude. To come to my door and give me such a nasty attitude when they are the ones who made the error is insane to me. When I called the manager to file a complaint he was also a huge jerk and I will not ever be receiving services from them again. I wish I could give less than one star. read more

I have a new Lennox Furnace and Ac system installed by Design Air 4 months ago. I choose 2 company after a thorough research on internet and got quote from both. They explained the different options available for me. The quote I got from their competitor was better so I decided to go with them, that day evening i got a mail from Paul(Design air) asking how can he get my business. I just emailed him what I got and if you can give a better deal I am ready. To my surprise he had provided me a better deal with some bonus like humidifier etc with that price. So I was happy with the deal i got as I have researched what would be the better price for a Lennox system and i got that + the humidifier. Now moving on to installation Marty gave a call and confirmed the appointment and got the deposit, also given a call a day before they are coming and confirmed they will be at home by 8. Next day they were here 5 min ahead of time and started their installation. The installation team was amazing, there were 2 people 1 expert and a trainee both were excellent persons and were ready to answer all my questions I had. They were expert in the installation process and both the machines were installed very neat and tidy, all switches were easy accessible after installation which was excellent. He gave a quick idea on usage of humidifier and other stuffs installed. In the middle of the work one person from the office came and inspected the work and ask me if everything is as expected. They kept me informed as to how the installation was progressing. They put all items back and cleaned up my basement as it was before. I am now enjoying all their hard work in my warm, cozy home. The excellent Next wifi thermostat they recommended is also very smooth, i love this machine which adapt accordingly by itself i don't have to set it up. After replacing I am saving a lot of bucks on my bill. To anyone looking for a Heating & AC system; Design Air is the best, their employees are very knowledgeable, friendly and kind. 5/25/17- just had service visit on 13 yr old fujitsu 1 ton split by Bill Y. Timely within appmt window and very satisfied with performance. Bill took readings on cooling output and coolant in compressor, explaining all. Had unit charged up on coolant and output spread doubles to where it should be.
