Note: I've posted this same review on Google Reviews…read more American Energy was one of three companies who priced my project. I met with the owner Mathew McGuire, who I found to be friendly, sincere, and someone who is vested in his business, his people, and working to ensure that he wins life-long customers with every job. I had done a lot of research with AI, so I knew my options well (that research was very helpful and I'd highly recommend doing it in advance of having people out to give you pricing). I had no intention of beating up each of the companies, I simply asked for their best pricing and options. I used AI to carefully review each bid in detail, including the proposed equipment and how appropriate it was for our home. All companies gave solid bids, but there was a very large spread between the highest and lowest. That usually concerns me, but all my research about American Energy indicated that they were a solid, competitive company. It was a big investment, but I ended up converting to an electric heat pump and also getting all our ducting replaced. We have a 2750 sf single-story home with 17 vents, so the new ducting was nearly as much as the system itself. That said, the ducting has made so much difference in terms of balancing the temperature throughout the house, which was a real probelm with the old system. The new system is extremely quiet and maintains a consistent temp throughout the day--and we've had some extremely hot days since it's been installed. American Energy's installers were all very friendly and professional, and did a great jobs with prep and clean-up each day they were here (the initial install took two days). There were a couple minor issues after the install was complete which required two follow-up appointments. One was a equipment issue that required Carrier to provide a replacement part, but Carrier was responsive and quickly provided it. For the additional follow-up appointments, their scheduling person as professional, courteous, and accommodating. In fact, she went out of her way over a weekend to re-schedule an appointment that was supposed to happen on a Monday morning. To me the company has to be a good one to A.) get that kind of diligence out of employees, and B.) to keep those kind of employees. In the end, I'm extremely happy with the system and will gladly subscribe for their annual maintenance contract.

Very disappointed with American Energy Home Pros…read more Our AC went out, and we called American Energy Home Pros to diagnose the issue. We paid a $100 inspection fee and were told we needed a new indoor fan motor. We were quoted almost $1,565 for the repair, and they didn't have the part available but said they could order it. Before agreeing to the repair, I decided to get a second opinion--and I'm very glad I did. Frost Energy Solutions came out and diagnosed the same issue. Josh replaced the same motor for $775 TOTAL, including the inspection, and even topped off our Freon. That's nearly an $800 difference for the exact same repair. I understand companies have different pricing and overhead, but I felt the original quote was extremely high, especially after finding another reputable company willing to do the same job for almost half the price. I would definitely recommend Frost Energy Solutions and Josh. He was professional, honest, fair, and transparent about the repair and pricing. In this economy, that kind of integrity means a lot! Do yourself a favor and get a second opinion before paying a high HVAC repair quote. We're very thankful we did!

Two word review: Honest, Responsive…read more This is my THIRD consecutive 5-star review for Rocklin Heating & Air. In the last 10 or so years in the area I've called RHA, one other place because they could get me to faster - had a bad experience, waited for RHA had an amazing experience, and decided they're going to be my ride-or-die for HVAC. I called them at 7am and by 11:30am their tech had fixed and tested everything and off to help someone else. Yesterday was the start of a heat wave and ... our AC unit quit on us. I called RHA as soon as they opened this morning at 7am, asked for Joe in particular, and they gave me a window between 10am and 12pm. Joe texted ahead of time at 10:30, diagnosed the blown capacitor, swapped it out, cleaned things up a bit, tested the coolant, answered a bunch of questions, and was on his way in just under an hour. The diagnostic was $129 and the capacitor was $186 today. By a complete and total coincidence, I had been running some experiments with home temperature sensors for the last week. You can literally see on these pictures exactly when the AC unit stopped working - and when RHA saved our bacon. The "other" place I called years ago only had a $79 diagnostic charge, but wanted to rip out and replace the entire HVAC system - and claimed we were taking our lives in our own hands by not getting it fixed with him immediately. Joe and RHA took care of everything for the diagnostic. Yeah, you can probably find someplace to charge you less for the diagnostic or maybe less for the part, but when your house is boiling hot / freezing cold, you want to be able to call on someone you can trust to help you out - and not take you for a ride.

He wasn't able to fix it so he came back the next day with a part that didn't fix the issue. Another part was ordered that took days to arrive. Finally Kevin's back but this part doesn't work either. Each time he came out, he tried so hard to get it working. Now it's a Friday after hours & he doesn't want to leave me without air so he keeps trying. I've never had anyone so determined to fix the issue & was able to get it working! I was so thankful & impressed with him. To top it off, I got a call a few days later saying they would be refunding me the first part that didn't fix it. I hope I never need their services again but if I did I'd definitely call them.

When I phoned them they mentioned they don't come down as far as the East Bay, but told me they would find out who did service the Bay Area from the manufacturers rep who was on leave at the time. True to their word they phoned me a week later with the information. I'm impressed that they took the time to phone me (thankyou Wade for your call) and made the effort to find the information I needed, when they had nothing to gain. This is service at its best, and I'll make sure I'll always recommend them to friends who live in their area.

I unfortunately had a very disappointing experience with South Placer Heating and Air…read more We were told that our evaporator coil was leaking and were quoted approximately $5,500 to replace it. During the appointment, however, there was a strong push toward replacing our entire HVAC system for approximately $22,000, which would have left us paying around $17,800 after the anticipated home-warranty contribution. Thankfully, before moving forward, I decided to get a second opinion. The second HVAC contractor located the actual refrigerant leak outside our home not in the evaporator coil. He also found that the evaporator-coil access panel appeared not to have been previously opened. Old glue was still present on the screws and lid, appearing consistent with the original installation approximately 17 years ago. What concerns me most is that we were being asked to consider spending thousands of dollars replacing an evaporator coil and ultimately encouraged to spend nearly $22,000 on a complete system when a second contractor found the leak somewhere else. I understand that our system is 17 years old and that replacement may eventually make sense. My issue is with how the problem was diagnosed and how strongly we were pushed toward a complete replacement based on that diagnosis. I'm very glad we got a second opinion before proceeding. Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend that homeowners get an independent second opinion before agreeing to a major repair or full-system replacement.

Nick took the time to thoroughly check our entire air-conditioning system and clearly explained what he was looking at and what was happening. It would have been very easy to recommend unnecessary parts or an expensive repair, but Nick was completely straightforward and told us everything looked good. He didn't even charge us for the visit! It's so reassuring to find a company and technician who are knowledgeable, thorough, and genuinely honest. We will definitely call Folsom Lake Heating & Air again whenever we need HVAC service. They were the one companies that got back really fast. And when I say fast, I have put in a quote and I got an answer back within five minutes. They were very on top of everything asking me what I want done they gave me the price right upfront so there wasn't any surprises. It was a flat rate of $69 to do the AC tuneup. Then they gave me 5 to 6 choices for time scheduling to come out to do the job. They were able to do the job the very next day and the very first appointment at 9 am. Clayton was our technician who came out. He was very friendly, very polite and very respectful. I was able to walk him through the whole house to show him where the job was. I love that they were able to do a 21 point inspection for the AC tune up to ensure that the AC is ready for summer. These were few of the test that was performed: Thermostat: Ensures it's functioning correctly and calibrated. Filters: Inspects and cleans or replaces air filters. Electrical Components: Checks wiring, connections, and safety controls. Airflow: Verifies proper airflow through the system. Visual Inspection: Checks for any signs of damage, wear, or leaks. Operational Test: Runs the system to ensure it's operating correctly and efficiently. Clayton was also able to tell me that our filters need to change over and was able to give me the sizes so that I can purchase the correct ones to install for ourselves. He did a phenomenal job with the dryer vent cleaning, which also happened to be in the attic for us. He also told us that there was a small drip in there and was able to clear out the clog from the AC for us. He was very hands-on, very efficient and very thorough with everything. We had also asked them to give us a quote to move our AC unit which happened to be on our back patio. I love that I was able to ask questions and he was able to give me the different scenarios of what would work and what wouldn't work and why did & didn't work. Thank you so much for your honesty. They are a local business mom and Pop shop we love giving business to local business. We will definitely do business with them again and we highly recommend them to anybody in the area.

The tech, Brad, arrived and began inspecting the unit on the roof. I was right over his shoulder watching him. He noticed that the furnace control computer board looked slightly discolored. He grabbed a black piece on this computer board with his pliers and attempted to pull it off, breaking this piece and permanently damaging the board itself. He wasn't called there to look at the heater, but it seemed like he was looking for any potential thing he could find. He eventually made it around to checking out the air conditioning system. He found that one of the capacitors had failed. He had a replacement capacitor in his van that he was able to wire in to get the air conditioner going again. He was in and out in well under 30 minutes. When it came time to pay the bill, I was offered a discount on the capacitor if I agreed to sign up for their maintenance/inspection program. It came out to $455, and this was cheaper than if I had not signed up for their inspection/maintenance program. I like to be a DIY person, so I couldn't help but look up what capacitors actually cost. There are many comparable capacitors to the one I was sold that cost under $50. I don't feel like I got very good value for what I received, not including the broken computer board. Upon receiving this invoice, I also received an estimate for nearly $900 to replace the newly broken computer board. I was able to purchase this same board on Amazon for under $300, and installed it myself in about 15 minutes. Since this visit, I have received several calls from this company from what seems to be a remote telemarketing service trying to schedule my routine plumbing and HVAC inspection. Given the first experience I had with the tech breaking my furnace control board, I am not interested in having this company inspect anything on my house. The way this situation played out makes me wonder whether the techs receive a percentage of the repairs they do, thus incentivizing them to find things to fix even if there's nothing broken yet.
