Paid Gold Rush Subaru for a diagnostic inspection and was told I needed a transmission replacement. Before authorizing the repair, I sought a second opinion. The second shop identified multiple additional issues and advised that the vehicle was not safe to drive. When I raised concerns, I was told I should bring the vehicle back for another inspection. After already paying for a professional diagnosis and being advised the vehicle was unsafe to operate, I did not believe that was a reasonable solution. I escalated the matter to Subaru of America and provided the details of my experience. Despite this, the case was closed without reimbursement or resolution. John Milburn and the team had multiple opportunities to address my concerns, but instead I was left paying for a diagnosis that I no longer have confidence in. My experience with this location. Just moved to town and wanted to switch Subaru dealerships. I've bought two vehicles from shingle springs and have never had a bad experience there. This place quoted me around $350 for an oil change, tire rotation and a transmission fluid change. When I arrive they send me to a consultant who then says the price is $530 for everything. They said they might be able to discount it around $450 if they talk to management. Who then came out to feel me out about the situation. I told them give me the best price and I will pay it but the dirty sales tactics wasn't appreciated. They told me they wouldn't service my Subaru and to leave. I have brought my '17 Crosstrek here several times for service. I usually do oil changes myself, but, I'm getting older and don't always feel like it. They always do the job right and in an expedited manner. Subarus have their quirks and I think it's worth having Subaru trained people do the maintenance even if it costs slightly more. When we came to end of our Ascent lease, we were torn between the new Forester and the BMW SUV. Enter Jim Sturgis. This place has gone way down hill in recent months. You used to be able to get same day service on your vehicle. Not anymore. Called another service center and they could take me right away. I could see if I had called in the middle of the day or evening. But I called right when they opened and they refused to see me. This is after the broke the radio of my other car and I had to fight for them to replace it, since it was working when I got there. But that's a different story. Long mixed review ahead. Please be sure to read the positive as well: I've always trusted Gold Rush Subaru with my car's service needs. I even travel almost two hours one way to bring my Subaru to this service center, but my recent experience was a rollercoaster, to say the least. To start, in the summer of 2023, my LCD radio screen began to develop "bubbles" across it. When I called to inquire about it, I was told it was my fault for wiping it with a wet washcloth--which I knew was completely untrue. After doing a little of my own research online, I discovered Subaru of America had issued an extended warranty for this manufacturer defect. I called back to explain this to the service advisor, and we discussed bringing my car in for a replacement. Fast-forward to April 2024. After speaking with the service advisor, he said he would call me back within a week or two when a loaner vehicle was available. However, month after month passed. I even made multiple appointments that ended up being rescheduled--sometimes due to something on my end, but more often on theirs. In the meantime, a laundry list of issues developed with my car. These included a tear in my seatbelt, the TPMS monitoring system lights flashing on and off, and, worst of all, an extreme stutter that made the car nearly undrivable. When I finally dropped the car off, I explained to the service advisor that the stutter only occurred once the car was warmed up and driven at least 10 miles. The next day, I received a text message from the service advisor stating that there was nothing wrong with the TPMS system and that the mechanic was unable to duplicate my concerns about the stutter. He also said the radio and seatbelt would be replaced under the factory defect warranty from Subaru of America. However, he insisted that my car needed the 60,000-mile servicing. When I informed him that most of the major components of the 60,000-mile service had already been completed elsewhere, he suggested spark plugs and throttle body cleaning would help my supposed stutter--if there even was one--since the mechanic "couldn't duplicate the issue." His tone was condescending, rude, and dismissive throughout the entire conversation. Not only did he dismiss my concerns and make me feel like I was imagining the issue, but he also failed to follow my instructions to properly replicate the problem. Despite my clear explanation, he drove the car just 2 miles in the two weeks it was at the shop (as proven by the total miles at pickup)--nowhere near enough to trigger the stutter. He assured me that replacing the spark plugs would fix any problem I thought I had, which turned out to be partially untrue. While the spark plugs did make a noticeable difference, the stuttering issue persisted after coasting or at certain RPMs. The service advisor refused to acknowledge or apologize for being wrong at any point. He even charged me nearly $1,000 for warranty-covered work and unnecessary repairs. To make matters worse, when I picked up the car, I noticed they had replaced my dark gray/black seatbelt with a tan-colored one that completely clashed with the interior. His lack of accountability, dismissive attitude, and blatant disregard for my concerns completely destroyed my trust in the service center and their mechanics' capabilities. Thankfully, the service center manager, Marquis, stepped in and turned things around. Marquis was incredible--genuine, honest, and deeply committed to resolving the situation. He refunded the unnecessary charges, ensured all issues were properly addressed, and kept me informed throughout the process. Although it took another two weeks (a total of one month), Marquis personally ensured my car was fixed and safe to drive again. His professionalism and integrity restored some of my faith in the dealership, and I'm incredibly grateful for his exceptional customer service. On the drive home after picking up my car for the final time, my husband mentioned how refreshing it was to have a situation involving high emotions and a significant financial investment--having spent $40,000 on this vehicle--resolved so professionally. No one had to yell, fight, or scream. Everything was handled properly, and I left the establishment feeling heard, seen, validated, and deeply grateful. While I still have concerns about trusting the service center as a whole, Marquis's dedication saved this experience from being a complete disaster. My sales guy Alex sent me a message letting me know the new ride was delivered. I filled out the credit app the night before pickup to speed things up. When I arrived Sunday morning, Alex had already sent the car to detail and filled up the gas tank for me. Breezed through finance in 30 minutes (maybe less). Let me explain the rating I gave Gold Rush Subaru. I gave them 5 Stars, but had you asked me back in 2016(?), I would have given them 1 Star. Fast forward to 2017, I would have given them 3.5. What changed? Most importantly, the salesman named Edgar Cardenas responded to my interest in a new car almost immediately. I had done my homework on the vehicle I wanted (2024 Forester Limited), did the "build" on the Subaru website and got a price that I could live with. Edgar and I discussed the trade in that I had (2017 Forester) and I knew that I could get more from a private buyer than what a dealership would offer. He assured me that he could make up the difference by giving me a lower price on the new car than I had anticipated. The major problem that we had was that the new car would have to be ordered, but that really wasn't an issue with me: I'm pretty patient. Anyway, I drove the 2017 Forester to the dealership to have the onsite appraiser take a look at it, and Edgar surprised me. He told me that they had the next model up ( the Touring), in the same color, and I was expecting him to put the hard sell on me and get me to buy up. The surprise? He said he would put the extras on the car and give it to me for the same price! I had to have him repeat what he said, because I couldn't believe my ears! Now, I know you are probably thinking that I must have been over-paying for the model that I initially had set my mind on but, as I said, I did my homework: It was a fair price! And, I'm an older guy who realizes that people in the auto sales industry don't work for free and a reasonable profit is, well, reasonable. About Edgar Cardenas, the human being, the guy exudes an honorable spirit. He's a family man with 3 kids and a wife, and I could tell that they are his world. I also felt a kinship with him because, like me, he's a Veteran (8 years) of the US Army. He had my back in the transaction and I got the feeling that he would have my back in any situation. A company is only as good as the people who work for it. There is no wonder why my rating for Gold Rush Subaru has increased from a low score of 1 to a high of 5 stars.
