Rainy miserable day today so since I had a rainy miserable ten hour work session at home day ahead, I stopped by. Now I'm not some bagel aficionado but one lady next to me on line who looked like she knew from bagels. She cheerfully regaled the weary line by raving she can't find any good bagels in Connecticut so when she's in Chatham town, she loads up on these. True to her word, she left with a sack of 'em. She had also ordered ahead but waited in line anyway - polite is fantastic. Guy next to her on line engaged her about Fairfield Connecticut where his son went to college. He crowed in a friendly way that his son encountered "like minded people" at the local college m and that was soon followed by mentioning Wall Street jobs and his son's "sugar momma". Why do I mention the on-line patter banter? Because it illustrated how Chatham types are generally convivial so I'd expect no less friendly chit chat if you go to Chstham Bagels and if you happen to be "like minded", of course. Blabbing passed the time while the two quiet Chatham Bagel men were working their tails off cranking out all orders fresh. Lastly? I just finished my bagel sandwich and pretty darn good! And just maybe enjoying the morning magic of preparing and enjoying good bagels makes everyone like minded here!

The dough has a welcome bit of flavor to it, as if they use just enough salt in the recipe to elevate the bready taste. This is a fluffy-style bagel but it has slightly more structure than others in the category, so it has a slight edge when making sandwiches. The cream cheese was light and smooth, so complemented it well.

The bagels have a very thin crust, with no more crisp than a dinner roll. Inside, the dough is light with a slight chew and some subtlety of flavor that develops during its rise. Unfortunately, it has very little structure and, as a result, it nearly fell apart while I ate a sandwich on it. The process - order, wait, pay when your item is ready. Me - I make a quick trip next door to pick up my caffeine shot. I pay after placing an order, when there are less people. I come back, pick up my order, and return home for my meetings. Efficient and always accommodated by the owners / folks in charge with a smile. Today is not. The "person in charge" (tallest of them all) just blurted tersely "i dont have a ticket". As i was calmly explaining, she turned her back and did what she wanted to do, in my mid-sentence. Basically ignoring my request, without proper 'conversation'. It was not a text. it was a conversation. It was disrespectful and rude, especially when owner herself has always been gracious in accommodating the request. It will not be my intent to go back and be disrespected.
