    Everything bagel with lox spread
    Cindy C.

Delicious. Stopped by Sunday morning for an everything bagel with lox spread ($5) and small coffee ($2). Bagel was nicely toasted, crunchy on the outside, chewy and soft on the inside. Paired with a generous schmear of savory lox cream cheese, it was a great way to start the day. I saw a sign for a $17.99 special for 6 bagels, 1/2 lb cream cheese and 1/4 lb lox. Seems like a good deal and I'll try that next time I host brunch.

For a place named "Hot Bagels" their bagels disappointed. While they were indeed hot and on the bigger side, they were mealy and kinda dry. Though their Everything Bagel had seeds on top AND bottom, their Onion Bagel only seemed to have onion on the outside and their Banana Nut Muffin only had nuts on the top and not the inside. For bagel toppings, they offer lox, whitefish salad, and a lot of other options. Their yummy veggie cream cheese uses fresh bell peppers, carrots, and celery. I was pretty happy with their thickly cut pork roll, egg, and cheese with ketchup and S&P on a bagel (a New Jersey fave). The moisture/grease from the ingredients helped. This seems to be a good spot to have a super casual breakfast or lunch (they offer hot/cold sandwiches, wraps, and salads), but for bagels, better options exist half a mile away. TIPS/NOTES: **Good coffee set up. Good selection of pastries and bagel toppings. **Eating area. **Friendly service but they seemed unfamiliar with daily specials which might be because the venue's pretty new. **Gender-neutral restroom. **Wheelchair accessible. **Plenty of parking.

As a bagel connoisseur, this is by far my fav bagel spot. I've lived in jersey my whole life, PA/Philly for college, and visit NY frequently, yet these bagels are hands down the best! The most fluffy bagels with the bubble texture on the bottom (NJ signature). Honestly, one of the most underrated bagels spots. The owner is super nice and patient with orders esp those who are older.

First time trying this new bagel spot. I got an everything bagel toasted with egg cheese hash brown and I will definitely be going back for more!

Not the best in NJ, but better than average bagels. They also make a good turkey sandwich.

Way too expensive. Over $12.00 for a 1/4 lb of lox. Crooks. Bagels not fresh. Way better alternatives.

Best bagels I've ever had! Breakfast sandwiches are cooked perfectly and the staff are so nice. Leagues ahead of Bagel Supreme!

There are a lot of pictures and artsy things hanging around. We hadn't been in a while because my husband thought the place was closed for some reason. But to our surprise it wasn't and we decided to give it a try again. They don't have a liquor license-which I notice is pretty common here in NJ for restaurants to have a BYOB policy due to no liquor license. Despite this, we've usually liked the food here. This time I ordered the short rib dish which was about $30 which I was assured was a good choice and my husband ordered shrimp scampi. Now good is subjective right, as it pertains to food, it's all based on your individual palette. To keep it 100% the short rib left much to be desired and was short on short rib, heavy on noodles, and lacked all sort of flavor and personality. To say the least I took a few bites and just could not do it. My husbands shrimp scampi was similar as it as a bit bland as he described it but he was able to doctor it up. We explained this to the waiter and instead of taking it seriously he just nodded and said would you like me to box it or take it away. That was the extent of his care. He was an attentive waiter but his ability to solve an issue related to the quality of the food was despicable. My husband paid the bill, but I won't recommend this place to eat for us in any near future. Especially since they cannot stand behind the quality of their food. This was a disappointment by far especially the nonchalant attitude of the waiter. Give the place a try for yourself, but please do not try that short rib dish! It's not worth the money and a huge disappointment.

Anyway, since then I've been back 3 more times; once for breakfast and twice for brunch. And while I'm confessing, the two times for lunch were on subsequent days. Yeah, they're that good. Actually, their chicken salad on a croissant is the best I've ever had and in my advanced years I've had a crapload of chicken salad. The have a nice sized coffee bar, decorated beautifully with some pretty delicious looking pastries. I'm on an anti-sweet phase so I'm basing my opinion on only on appearance. Then there's a seating area when you can eat, served by a friendly attentive staff and an adjacent boutique area where you can purchase housewares, clothing and other cool stuff. I'm not in Maplewood all that often, generally when I'm shopping at the equally awesome City Workshop but when I do, I always make sure to hit up Perch. You should too. 1/2 star deduction because they don't offer fake sugar, just that Stevia crap which is gross.
