Overall, I had a decent experience with my take out order. They have a pretty extensive menu of your standard Chinese take out food options. Although the prices might be slightly higher than your most Chinese take out restaurants, I think the food quality is a bit better. For my order, I went with the sesame chicken lunch special, which included the entree and a soup. I thought the portion size was pretty generous and the food was good. The total for my lunch was about 18 bucks with a tip. The food was prepared pretty fast. I think the take app told me the food would be ready in 20 minutes, but I received a text within 10 minutes indicating that my food was ready. Since this restaurant is within walking distance to my home, I have a feeling that I'll give it another shot in the future. read more

We love Chinese food and we have been in many, many Chinese restaurants and Holy Chow is, by far, in the top 3 between Silver Spring and Baltimore. Love the food - never had a dud. Between Shalom Kosher Supermarket, Ben Yehuda Pizza and the Yeshiva of Greater Washington (and a number of other synagogues) is a takeout only food place serving Chinese, Falafel, or Shwarma Nice people, fast service, only got one meal-the crispy beef. And the beef was good, it was mostly crispy with a few softer prices in the middle. Rice was good. I would say that it was sweeter than usual. And while it always serves Chinese food-Thursday through Sunday they bring in the Middle Eastern as well. No fusion or creativity. But is is a take out. While a big draw is the kosher, the food stands on its own as well. read more

Holy Chow is a good quality kosher Chinese takeout joint. They do deliver but the fees are high so when we do order delivery (as we do not drive) we order enough for leftovers the next day. We last ordered from here two weeks ago and got a Large Singapore Noodles, a Large Orange Chicken with Fried Rice, and a Shawarma Pita. The Shawarma I think is the recipe of Max's which is now closed and the Singapore Noodles were great. The Orange Chicken was decent but I remember it being better last time. The time before we ordered more food at the same price but a lot of it was on lunch special so ordering earlier in the day may help. read more

This was our first time here and it won't be our last. Friendly staff. They do get busy. We got there at 5:30 pm on a Sunday night and it was an hour wait for the food since we didn't order ahead of time. They did tell us it will be an hour before we placed the order. We decided to place the order anyway and just went shopping in couple of the stores in the plaza. It definitely was a great decision on our part and worth the wait. We ordered the following: Chicken with baby corn - it did came with other veggies. Very good. A++ Chicken lettuce wrap- love love love. A++ General Chow- great flavor- not to sweet and not too crunchy. A+. Chicken w sweet corn- a little on the sweet side but still delicious. A+. Scallion pancakes- i think it was too thick. After waiting on hold for 15 minutes I decided to drive there and order in store. I ordered sweet and sour chicken and general chow chicken. I got home and saw two identical dishes in look and taste. I called them to return one untouched dish and Ben the guy who answered the phone said: "They look the same but different in taste. You got the dish you paid for and there're no refunds because it's a kosher establishment. You're welcome to order something different but you'll have to pay the full price". We really wanted to like Holy Chow, but the food just wasn't good. We ordered hot & sour soup and it was not sour at all and didn't have the flavor of that soup which we have had at many restaurants. We also ordered beef with vegetables, which was bland and the vegetables were cooked to death. Even the fried rice had no flavor. I wanted to root for this restaurant, since it is one of the very few kosher options around, but unfortunately a big menu misunderstanding makes me feel like I need to knock this down a couple stars. Most people see "chow mein" and interpret that as stir fry egg noodles with veggies and choice of beef and/or chicken. However, upon receiving my order, I only saw veggies and meat. NO NOODLES. AT ALL. I think most people who see "chow mein" would think this dish came with noodles also. I will credit that they have a separate section just for noodles, however, it would more clear to call the "chow mein" section something else entirely, or indicate more clearly that this is not noodle dish. Otherwise, the taste was great. Would have been better with the noodles. read more

The menu is quite extensive but the dishes we ordered were are tasteless. The sweet and sour soup was neither sweet nor sour-just a salty thick colored liquid. The chicken dishes included small shreds of chewy chicken drenched in a brownish sauce with a few undercooked broccoli. I read about Holy Chow in 2018 when they were seeking GoFundMe contributions as they started up, so I sent them some money. The offer was to creditthat funding to get credit toward a meal once they got going. Five years later, including pandemic, I never used my credit, even though I've shopped at Shalom Kosher next door many times over those years. Yesterday (Mothers Day) I walked in, told them my story, and they kindly gave me my meal! I ordered Kung Fu Krunch chicken, Beef with Snow Peas, Sesame Chicken, hot & sour soup, and a chicken spring roll. Because of specials, the soup and spring roll were free (had I been paying). Brought it home, heated it up. Hot & Sour Soup: really tasty, not at all spicy, I would order this again. Chicken spring roll: undistinguished. Kung Fu Krunch chicken: really good. Slightly crunchy, served on a bed of pan-fried noodles. Not at all spicy, I would order this again. Beef with Snow Peas: what you would expect. Good, I could probably make this at home, sauce was good. I could see ordering this again. Sesame Chicken: undistinguished. Service was friendly and efficient. Young people at the front of the house taking orders, sounds like everyone orders online. I waited about 15 minutes for my order to be prepared. Location: terrific if you live in Kemp Mill or shop at Shalom. Otherwise remote for lots of potential customers. Atmosphere: generic take-out. Sidewalk seating limited, nothing inside. Take-out only. Seemed clean. Price would have been pretty expensive had I been paying, but in line with other kosher choices. Because we keep kosher it was really fun to have meat cooked for me and to have Chinese food! Overall ratings: service 4, food 4, value 3, atmosphere 2, location 3, for an overall score of 4. Good food (American-style Chinese takeout), essentially takeout but with a few seats at the bar inside and a couple of tables outside for nice weather. Prices are incredibly good for kosher food. And the people are honest, easy to work with, and always work hard to take care of whatever you need. We had a delivery concern for a catering order on a Friday afternoon, after the restaurant was closed, and the owner was on his cell phone making sure that we were fully taken care of, even after we had told him that everything arrived and looked great. Food is inedible. No chicken in a mountain of pasta when I got the chicken mei fun. Chicken could not be chews when I got sweet and sour chicken and the sesame chicken. Prices should be considered robbery. Don't go there. You'd be wasting your time and end up with an empty stomach. read more

I really wanted to love this place. We went in and placed our order. Let me start by saying that I understand we all have stuff going on so we should give each other grace but the guy at the desk didn't even look up at us to take our order or ask us if we needed anything. Fine. We asked some specifics- are the wings full wings? and is the king pao made with veggies and if so which ones? The guy said the wings were full wings and the king pao was just fried with sauce and the peanuts are on the side. Cool. So.. we get home and the kung pao had celery which is ok but had we been told, we would have told them to hold them as well as the green peppers. Plus the wings were not whole wings, they were party wings. The general chow chicken wasn't bad. Really disappointed and after a crappy day, that was not the icing on the cake I needed. read more

Whenever we decide to order Chinese food as a family, Holy Chow has become one of our family favorites. I have a mother with a shellfish allergy that is always nervous when she's eating out, for fear of cross contamination or miscommunication on our orders. To have shrimp or crab make it's way into a dish could become a very serious emergency. Additionally, I also have a sister that is vegan. Luckily, Holy Chow is the perfect solution for when we order out for delivery. My mom has the comfort of knowing there is absolutely no shellfish ever in their kitchen, and my sister has a vast selection of menu options to choose from. Recently, I celebrated a bday in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. With social distancing, I wasn't really sure how to celebrate with my family, but we found a perfect way - by ordering from Holy Chow and eating outside on our family patio, 6 ft apart. My mom even set up a central area for the food that we'd each individually serve ourselves from, before going back to our assigned areas of the patio! It was actually quite perfect. Overall, the food isn't the most flavorful in my opinion, but it still satisfies my taste. A plus is that it's typically not very greasy and like I said, lots of vegetarian options. For my bday dinner, everything was pretty tasty, but especially the dumplings and the chicken and corn soup (a favorite between my mother and I.) I usually also love the Singapore rice noodles, but for some reason it was so overly seasoned and salted this time, that it was almost inedible. I asked my mom to try it as well just because I'm a little salt sensitive, and she agreed. I don't remember it being like that before, so maybe it was just a misstep in the kitchen. I definitely rate kosher restaurants generously. There are so few and as a kosher conniesseur I want them to thrive. Kosher this is a 3 star. Non-kosher 2. First the good. The young man at the cashier was super nice and comp'd 10% off as we had to wait 30 minutes vs the promised 10-20. Which was great but when we got back to the hotel they forgot to give us our chicken fried rice we paid $13 for. But I'm glad we didn't get it as the food is below average. 1. Dumplings are more like buns. Super thick, more like Chinese buns. 2. No egg drop soup. Just something that as supposed to be sweet n sour but wasn't sweet or sour. The wontons were pretty good but huge. 3. The chicken and broccoli was bland. Greasy and super salty. This made me appreciate Miami's amazing kosher scene that much more. Even LA's Shanghai kosher is much better and they have fallen off the last few years. read more

It was Christmas night, a very busy night for Kosher Chinese establishments. This place has been around for awhile, so we expected that they would have had their act together. Not the case by a long shot! At least 20 mins to even get up to the counter. They had piles and piles of orders sitting on the counter that had not even been processed. More orders were coming in on line, and the phone kept ringing. I had placed the order early afternoon for a 5:15pm pick-up. The best they could do was to say it would be ready in 45 mins, which would have taken us up to about 6:45. A real joke! read more

Literally the blandest food imaginable---it's like they did everything in their power to take any semblance of flavor out of their food. I do appreciate that it's hard running a Kosher restaurant let alone a Chinese takeout joint but at the very least the food has to have some deliciousness---sadly this place doesn't, not even a smidge. I tried them 4 times before writing this review so I do believe I have a large enough sample to make this conclusion. The prices are astronomical even by Kosher standards. $17.49 for a large (it's a normal size btw) Chicken Lo-mein---ridiculous. I asked for the Lo Mein spicy(A cosmic joke ---holy cow was this the mother of all atrocities -- undercooked flavorless chicken pieces mixed in predictably insipid noodles and $9.99 for 6 steamed vegetable dumplings that tasted like boiled rubber! If bland food is your thing and you like overpriced old folks home cafeteria-style Chinese then you won't go wrong with Holy Chow. Everyone else steer clear! read more

I will state the positive first. The food is good tasting and flavorful that's why I gave it 3 stars. Now for the rest. I understand Kosher food is expensive, but $13.99 for a lunch special that's outrageous. I ordered a fried chicken lunch special and it came with 4 wings. Yes I said 4 wings, a little bit of brown rice and a cheap Egg Drop soup. I have to pay a $1.49 extra for a Egg Roll on top of the $13.99 I was paying for the lunch Special. I did not pay extra for the Egg Roll. Plus the Egg Rolls there are small. Most lunch specials include Soup and Egg roll for one price. read more

Update: After our previous review, the owner reached out to us and offered to re-make our meals. We decided to give them another chance, and boy are we glad we did! The food was great this time - everything from the sides to the main dishes were all fresh and delicious. On top of that, the owner came out to our car to talk to us and ensure that we're happy. We really appreciate their customer service. It's hard to find business owners these days who go above and beyond to make their customers happy.
