Pricing on the lunch specials are around $12 and you get a generous portion - very nice if you don't want leftovers . There were not many people in the dining room and I am not sure why. I have been eating Chinese food all over this country for many many years. This restaurant has by far the very best food .Their food is always freshly made and very well packed if you want to do take out. This is important because it comes nice and hot, right from the kitchen. The BBQ SpareribCombo Plate is amazingly and if it is a day that you are dining alone you get a good variety of taste food . This is a family business and they treat you as though you too were a family member. They have their own delivery person who speaker good English and is friendly and always pleasant. I am recovering from a long illness and they were thoughtful many times over-the to ask me how I am feeling. The family s son has several times even done my delivery personally. The Golden Abacus by far has the most delious food around. The portions are large and prepared by their chief, who just happens to be the father . They are not cheap but the food is the very best. They charge you for duck sauce which is outrageous but the food is so good that it is l guess going too far with the duck sauce. I pay it but it annoys me. read more

While out thrifting. Myself and my daughter wanted Chinese food. Not knowing the area my daughter looked up places with reviews and this place came up which was not far from where we were. On entering we were greeted by our server John there was no wait time so we were seated right away. We ordered pina coladas we did want them frozen but I can't recall if they didn't have them frozen or the mixer was broken but never the less they were perfect, I can't recall. I appreciate when a restaurant add just enough alcohol to where you don't feel like you are paying alcohol prices for something that tastes like a mocktail. We ordered a special dinner plate as we had just missed the lunch special but even so the prices were reasonable. Our meals were good and nicely portioned. They do have a bar where you can grab a drink and food. There was a tv at the bar and one near the dining area. The bathrooms were nice and clean. Finally I did notice they have regular customers and the owners know them by name. That says a-lot for a place. I had a really nice time at Golden Abacus. We eat at it's neighbor, gyro and kebab frequently and I wanted to give it a shot. We were seated promptly and received our food quickly. We both got dinner combos and I really enjoyed the food. My husband and I both thought the amount of food was good value for money. I really enjoyed the food and so did other folks in the dining room. I heard one woman telling the waiter that she comes down from Jamaica plain for it and she'd brought her daughter to try it. Now, that's a rave! I am not sure I'd drive from JP for it but it was solid Chinese food. The parking lot for this set of businesses can be a little intense if it's busy, but it's usually fine. I haven't eaten here in years, but needed a new place for Chinese food. Everything was great. The chicken fingers, boneless ribs, egg-roll, and crab rangoons were all great apps. The rice was just ok. The chicken lo mein and pad Thai were both excellent. The sweat and sour chicken and General Gau's chicken were both very good. I like how they have dinner combo meals all day. I have been going here for years and went with my friend for lunch yesterday and as usual was not disappointed. I got Chicken Lo Mein Lunch Special Combo that comes with a choice of appetizer....I got 2 Crab Rangoons and a choice of Steamed Rice or Pork Fried Rice. My friend got the General Gau's Chicken with Boneless Spare Ribs and Fried Rice. As usual, the owner waited on us and was so friendly. The food came out fresh and hot from the kitchen and was delicious. The restaurant was clean as was the restroom. It's not a fancy place but has a small bar with a TV if you want to watch a game. As far as cost went, for me, there was enough for 2 meals....We each had a soft drink which was a can of soda! Our bill was $28. In some places for lunch, you can pay this for 1 person. Everything was fantastic. If you like great, fresh Chinese food, definitely give Golden Abacus a try. You will not be disappointed. I guarantee it. read more

Good-prices are reasonable, ordered online and it was ready quickly, the woman behind the counter was so pleasant. Not so good-most of it was so dry. The boneless spareribs had a weird consistency. Tough, dry and almost crumbly. Rice was also dry and somehow crumbly. The chicken fingers and teriyaki beef were fresh and good but the rest of it we just threw out. I was kind of hoping to be able to give it a one star, but we were kind of pleasantly surprised. First off, if you want decent suburban "American" Chinese food, there are better places -- so rest easy anxious one. Check out my review for Foxboro Mandarin (Foxboro) for much better American-Chinese. We got two of the "Chef's Specialties": Mongolian Chicken and Basil Beef. Yep the food was rather bland, in fact both sauces tasted similar. Maybe they have one sauce which they use for everything and just add a little more salt or sugar here and there. However, the ingredients appeared to be solid. They were relatively generous with the scallions, peppers, beef and chicken, etc,. Not really generous mind you, but relatively generous. Rice included? I have been eating at Golden Abacus for many years. Let me tell you Golden Abacus has the best Chinese food and drinks in the area. Ping and her family are lovely and will always take great care of you. I suggest trying the Crab Rangoon and getting one of Ping's incredible White Mai Tai drinks! I don't know what happened. Golden Abacus was one of the best - not anymore. SWILL! Ordered hot and sour soup, egg drop soup, egg rolls, scallion pancakes, chicken wings and vegetable lo mein. Nothing had any flavor. The hot and sour soup had some spice , but nothing else. The egg rolls were filled with mush, the scallion pancake was thick dough and the lo mein was plain, unflavored noodles without a vegetable in sight! The original Golden Abacus was excellent. I got food at the New Golden Abacus the other day, it was horrible. I got a few meals, everyone I got food for complained about it. I had sesame chicken, it was flat pieces of I don't know what, but it was like shoe leather. Threw it all out. We will never go back to this place, very low quality food. read more

I love the food at Golden Abacus. Always fresh and hot. Plus they are one of the only places that still sell a pu pu platter for 1. But. And it's a big But. The lighting is atrocious. The bar actually has spotlights shining on it (and it's patrons). Full power, blinding. These are the type of lights that light up houses at Christmas. Spend a few bucks and buy a dimmer. The rest of the restaurant is almost as bright. Does no one remember the atmosphere of Chinese restaurants and especially their lounges in the 1960's and 70's?? The place was completely empty at 7 on a Saturday night. Turn down the lights and people will come. As I said the food is awesome but it's a shame most people probably just get it to go. read more

This place is horrid. Horrible horrible horrible Chinese food. Everything is greasy and overcooked. I usually try a Chinese place by ordering the easy to make fried items and this place failed miserably. It seems to me, for a Chinese place that doesn't even deliver, they ought to be exceptional. I just got lunch from here. Lunch specials are reasonably priced and come with a lot of food. The egg roll was crisp with a good filling, shrimp with lobster sauce was spot on. And, contrary to many of the reviews that I've seen here, the woman who seemed to be handling the entire front end of the restaurant (waiting tables, handling the bar, and carryout orders) was quite nice, greeting me when she came out of the kitchen, arms laden with trays, after coming back, apologizing for the wait. I had a great experience, with the food, the service staff, and the online ordering, and will come again for lunch some time. Only negative was with online ordering, it does not tell you when your food will be ready, but I didn't think that was worth knocking off a full star. I ordered and pretty well immediately made the 15 minute drive to pick it up, and it was both ready and still hot at that point. I'm guessing during peak hours that might take longer. read more

I had dinner here with a friend of mine and the lady that took our order was the rudest person I've ever met I go out to eat 4 times a week I meet a lot of people and this woman was probably the rudest person ever she was arguing over 10% coupon that we had found online on their own website but she didn't want to honor it and then she told us to hurry up and order because she's very busy although I didn't see any other customers in the whole restaurant I definitely will not be coming back here ever again If you want to go out to eat in this area your best bet is to pick any place besides this one read more

I Came here lastnight at a whim because my wife needed some good hot soup. Got the Veggie Chicken soup - good sized portion on the large for a little more than 5 bucks. I went with the singapore rice noodles and I wasnt aware that it came with curry. Not a big fan of the curry, but I gobbled them. The curry for me just took away from the dish as that's all I could taste - but that's that dish. It was dead as a door nail in there on a tuesday early evening and the sweet people in there seemed desperate for business - but extremely friendly - and I appreciated that. I was driving in the car when I ordered. I ordered mostly smalls. They neglected to tell me they don't have small orders so I got all larges. I would not have ordered there. I ordered spareribs on the bone which are $1.00 more than boneless which is what I received. It wasn't the cost it was the principle. The food was just ok. I will never go back. We got take out here based on the recommendations of a few other yelpers. We just moved to the Norwood area and were trying to find the best chinese food in town. Our order was done and ready to be picked up promptly with no wait. Their food is mediocre. Kind of bland and flavorless. There are more vegetables in their chicken and vegetables than chicken. The Pad Thai had no flavor despite it looking wonderful. We were not impressed at all and chances are we won't go back but, it was a nice place and their take out pick up timing is quick. read more
