Been looking afar for good chow mein (without a ton of msg) which I crave sometimes. This place is tiny, so maybe mostly for takeout but the chicken chow mein was very good. A little overkill with the celery but I have never had chicken chow mein with so many pieces of large, tender tasty chicken before, ever. Was there super bowl Sunday and ordered chicken fried rice, crab Rangoon and beef teriyaki. When I opened the rice, the first thing I noticed was the white pieces of chicken. Looked uncooked and was super moist as well as the rice. I didn't even bother eating it after I tried it. Was horrible. The chicken looked boiled. The crab Rangoon was super sweet. I don't mean the filling although that was sweet too. Felt like I was eating a desert treat. The beef teriyaki was ok. The food was not appealing at all. I've eaten here in the past and it was never great but I don't recall it being this bad. Def off my list after this experience. read more

When the food came, the appetizer combo was missing an egg roll, chicken wing, and boneless sparerib. Only a huge chicken finger was present. I called and they denied the shortage. The woman I spoke with must have thought I was trying to scam her out of a petty amount. Westwood Jade lost a regular customer as my mom does not cook and loves Chinese food. I have been eating here for lunch and take out for at least 6-7 years, but recently, the owner, a local resident, sold the business. The new menu is more expensive but it seems the food is similar, although it now follows a pretty standard American menu instead of the bewildering array of combination appetizer options. And most unfortunately, the hot tea pot is gone. So what used to be a $7 rice plate for lunch with free tea is now over $10 and nothing to drink without buying a coke for $1.25. When the prices were lower and I knew the owner, I could overlook a lot of superficial defects like how cold it gets in winter or hot in summer and how it is primarily for take out, because the food was basically good and there was plenty of it. Now, it does not work for me anymore as there are several nearby alternatives that have higher quality food and lower prices. Very disappointed to see this change. I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 because the food I ate on my one recent visit was not horrible and maybe they will tweak the prices and menu and it will return to being a good value. If you walk into a bare bones place like this and can't find anything on the menu under $10--that should be your cue to leave. 6 months ago, I'd have given it 4 stars. read more

I stopped by after visiting the nursery next door. The service was friendly. They make everything to order, which is awesome. They didn't have stuffed fried wontons-- only the plain wontons. So they suggested the potstickers fried, which was pretty good. But I had my heart set on crispy wontons. I also ordered the Szechuan chicken. The food stayed hot all the way home. Westwood Jade is basic, okay if no other options around Chinese food. I probably won't ever eat here again but the staff were nice. The young man who took my order was prompt and precise. The space was cleanish just a little dingy from age. The crab Rangoon's had a sour cream taste without any other flavor, the chicken fingers were heavy breaded with a sliver of tough white meat. The beef fried rice was flavorless just dark rice and tough 1/4inch pieces of undistinguishable meat, no onions, no veggies or egg. The General Gau chicken was good and gingery and the boneless ribs and wings were okay. The prices are fair with all those apps being smalls and came up to $40. Five people ate and we have tons of leftovers because of the lackluster food :( read more

We have ordered from this place three times. It is American styled Chinese food. They delivered it in a timely fashion the first time. The second time they took an hour and a half. This latest time they took over an hour and a half to deliver. We called, it was cold and we were concerned it would arrive cold again. They said it would be right there. We waited another 25 minutes and called to cancel. They did not apologize for the inconvenience nor offer a coupon for the future or anything service related. They yelled at us because we wanted to cancel after over 90 minutes waiting. It was so bad the woman refused to admit it was their fault and blamed us. Going so far as to say " you do pick up instead of delivery next time." After talking to our neighbors who were waiting with us they said they had the same experience from them in their restaurant. Westwood Jade has a very diverse menu. I just read a Yelp review that they thought that the food was greasy and overpriced. I just had a delicious, healthy meal from there, and it was not greasy at all. We had baby bokchoy with chicken in a white sauce with extra garlic and brown rice. It was fabulous. They cook whatever you order and you may order light cuisine or caloric rich dishes. Westwood Jade aims to please their customers. I can't wait to return for another meal. My family and I order from here at least once a month. We never have any complaints, the food is always warm and delicious! To add to the five stars even more, we ordered through DoorDash tonight and they happened to forget two items (no big deal), but the restaurant took it upon themselves to call me, ask for my address, and send their OWN delivery driver to my house with the forgotten items. We had tried all the nearby places around Dedham and Westwood except this one. We have been mostly disappointed in all the others. Also can't stand when restaurants put orange rind in their orange chicken. Who likes that?? Horrible food I just ordered. I'm only saying this because there is no way this restaurant can sell food like this and remain in business. The fried rice had a burnt taste to it and was a dark brown and a bit smoky. I didn't add soy sauce yet. The horrible house lomain, I tasted the shrimp and I swear they had used amonia on it first because it was old. This place isn't as glam as the Bamboo in Dedham, but personally I think the food is better. Keep in mind, this is 'chinese' takeout, its not gourmet stuff your ordering. No self respecting person pays more that five dollars for a small hot and sour soup, ever. Compared to other take out cheap Chinese food places this one is just okay. It is not horrible but the fried rice as with many others is dry and bland and tastes like it was sitting out all day. Kung Pau chicken was rubbery and fatty but not too bad. Other than that, Pu Pu Platter selections tasted fine and the delivery was prompt and courteous. The prices for a take out delivery place are expensive and comparable to Bamboo and some of the higher end Chinese food places in the area. We live five minutes from the restaurant yet asked for it to be delivered. I called at 3:15pm and didn't received the food at our door until 5:00pm!
