Dinner here last night. The dining room is much larger than it appears from the parking lot, and very nice, not tacky. My waitress was very helpful and courteous, and there when needed. The menu is of modest sized, but I didn't see much for Hunan or Szechuan dishes, but there were a few that were labeled as spicy. I was disappointed they were out of string beans which seems to be the house specialty. I had an egg roll (pictured) and the Lake Ting-tuna shrimp. Both arrived quickly and sizzling hot. The shrimp dish was large enough for 2 people, but I managed to eat it all. Flavor was good, but I'd like a little more spice, maybe some more ginger, Prices were reasonable, and I left stuffed and happy. read more

Our waitress was VERY nice. Ok, I started with a positive. And that's about it on the positives. The weird seafood delight dish I got (shrimp, crab, scallops) had about 8 pieces of meat and it tasted old, and dusty. Truly. The sauce was like water. My husband ate my mushrooms. He didn't mind those. I added a ton of soy sauce to my dish. It desperately needed some flavor that wasn't reminiscent of an old person home. The crab Rangoon was fine! As was the steamed rice! Fried rice again needed SOMETHING. It was so bland. The place is nice enough and you get really pretty plates to eat on. Prices are reasonable. My dish was $11.50. (I included a photo.) My husband liked his spicy beef something or another enough, but he said the spicy wasn't spicy at all. My mother-in-law loved her chicken dish. She ate it all. I was told the egg rolls were decent. We love our Chinese Chef from South Sioux. We're gunna stick to that place. read more

The food is pretty good BUT.... We got take out and ordered dinner portions. Either they messed up and gave us the lunch portion or they just ripped us off. Either way we paid for the dinner size and felt completely robbed. The container is very small and as you can see the beef barely comes half way. Not sure we'll go back. read more

During our cross country road trip, I became tired of subway and Starbucks, so Chinese it was! I ordered the orange chicken dinner meal with fried rice and it was delicious! The chicken tasted like actual chicken and the flavoring was fresh and unique, it tasted like it had just been prepared, as opposed to sitting beneath a heat lamp. Established over twenty years ago, this is a classic mid-western, family owned, Chinese restaurant, and probably the best in the area. Very good service, very good food (if you are not expecting the food you'd be served in China), with concerned management and owners always on hand. Prices are reasonable, providing a great value. They also offer take-out and delivery. They can accomodate most dietary restrictions without loss of quality or speed of service. Hunan Palace is a family favorite. My folks came every Sunday after church, which is how I was introduced to it when visiting. And several times, including this year, it's provided our Christmas Eve sustenance. My favorite dish is string bean beef. Green beans, with just the right amount of crunch, are tossed with thin pieces of seasoned beef in a brown oyster sauce. I can't get enough of this dish. Other family favorites include Yum Yum Chicken, Triple Delight, Cashew Chicken and anything with garlic. While a few extended family members snipe that there's better Chinese in town, everyone always seems to clear their plate. Service is efficient and friendly and prices are low. We wanted to find a good Chinese place in Sioux City but this was NOT it. The Hot and Sour soup had some small junks of dried beef in it that was tough as shoe leather. I then got the special Curry Chicken and it tasted like it was made with cream of mushroom soup. The egg roll was fine as was the fortune cookie and rice but otherwise it was disgusting!! read more

Just moving to Sioux City I have been on a search for a good Chinese Restaurant, but sadly Hunan Palace is last on my list. The service and quality of food was severely lacking. I ordered the Garlic Chicken with Wonton Soup and Crab Rangoon. I never tried Wonton Soup and it was the only thing I enjoyed at this place. After finishing my soup the restaurant started to fill with more guests, nothing too busy, but it was a small crowd. After seeing 3 tables get seated, place an order, given soup, and then receive their entrée I was getting a bit impatient. I felt completely ignored by the waitress who never stopped at our table once to let us know why our food was taking so long, she didn't even bother to fill my cup that was sitting on the table for 15 minutes. Once I finally received my food I expected a lot for the amount of time I had to wait. The Garlic Chicken wasn't what I expected to be, it was bland and lacked flavor, the Crab Rangoon was the worst I have ever tasted in any Chinese Restaurant...ever and that's saying something. It was over cooked and literally had no cream cheese in it. I was so disappointed with the food quality and service I received I definitely will not be giving Hunan Palace another chance. If you were looking for a good Chinese restaurant I would try something else in the area. read more

We stick mainly to the basics and have only had food delivered. We love crab rangoons, hot and sour soup, and chicken fried rice. Food has always come faster than quoted and is always hot and delicious! Unfortunately we haven't had great luck with main dishes- General tso's and chicken with broccoli was kinda gross. read more

This is the best Chinese food in Sioux City, and the prices are reasonable, especially for lunch. The restaurant is always clean, and we have great service when we go there. My favorites are the hot & sour soup and wonton soup, and sometimes I just get soup when I go there! The chicken fried rice is fantastic as is the sweet and sour shrimp. If you're in the mood for something fun, try the pupu platter. There is a lot on it, and it serves 2. I'm surprised at some of the reviews as we've never had a bad meal here. read more

I've been here a few times with my fiance so I figure I've had more than enough trips to warrant a review. The first thing you'll notice is that there is a pleasant ambiance about the restaurant when you walk in. The wait staff was on the ball with refills and whatnot. I have to recommend the Yum Yum chicken and Wonton Soup. The only thing keeping them from a 5 star review is that they have split hours on week days. They close from 2:30pm to 4:30pm for dinner preparations so some may find that a bit inconvenient for late lunches, but otherwise a great place. Open all day on the weekends though. read more
