Despite my previous update, which may give the idea that I've been to Golden Corral recently, I haven't been here in quite some time. Still, I think I made a valid point. Reviews more than, say, two years, are meaningless. This morning, 4/30/23, I had the urge for a Sunday morning breakfast but was tired of my old standby, the cheese omelet. Omelets have gotten expensive and too many spots simply put no effort into them. The eggs often cool off too quickly or the cheese isn't really melted inside and stiffens. One restaurant, namely Patty's Sunrise Cafe in Burr Ridge, goes through even less effort. So I decided I wanted to try Golden Corral again. A problem for me was that none of the locations in Chicagoland rated more than a 2.5 star rating. The complaints are numerous. I checked Joliet, Bolingbrook, Tinley Park and Cicero and they were all the same. Even with these "warnings" I couldn't get GC off my mind. I bit the bullet and drove to Joliet. SURPRISE! The restaurant was clean and presentable. The tables, plates and silverware all measured up. The interior seems to have had some minor changes giving the place a nice updated look. The staff I dealt with, cashier and wait staff, were smiling and polite. As I didn't add a soft drink to my meal there was no reason for a server to stop by my table on occasion, still, one did a couple of times to ask if everything was fine. I've never had a complaint with the food. There's certainly plenty to choose from and the flavor is there. Cooks in the place know what they're doing. Unfortunately, things can go south once the food reaches the the warming / serving area. Mainly, food temp drops rather quickly. Scrambled eggs, bacon and sometimes potatoes survive, but the corned beef hash goes to cool before you know it. French toast can be iffy. If you catch it as soon as it's made you'll be golden. If not, if it's gone cold, don't bother with it. I love the sliced and sauteed mushroom for my eggs. One small item that every breakfast spot should offer. To combat lukewarm food, you can get an omelet freshly made, with all sorts of flavor adders. You can get freshly sliced ham. The good surprise for me was the steak. I've never gotten it in the past and it's been my loss. I tried it today and went back for a second piece. Cooked well and completely, with nice grille marks adding flavor, I wanted to take a few slices home for dinner. A complaint I'd read was that there wasn't enough salt on a particular item. Look at your table...you can salt and pepper to your hearts content. I think this person has been watching too many cooking competitions on the FOOD Channel, where a chef can lose $10,000 for not adding enough salt. A second complaint was the supposed lack of dessert items. This one was a stunner. Golden Corral has a massive dessert area with a great offering of very tasty choices. If anyone who was at this particular GC this morning between 9:00 and 10:30 am has a complaint then I disrespectfully say you're a fool. I admit, I didn't use the restroom. I try to avoid restaurant bathrooms. Traditionally, customers are pigs and restaurant managers don't seem to feel that having clean restrooms is important. Finally, my one real complaint is the cost of my breakfast. $16.01 without a drink strikes me as excessive. I'm used to the ten and eleven dollar costs. Had I seen this cost posted at the register I might have walked out, plus, I don't know if GC still offers a senior discount. read more

I'm not a buffet person any more but wanted some rolls. The food was good, the service was good and it was clean and well lit. It also was not crowded as it is the middle of the week. I'd definitely recommend to someone looking to feed the kids in less of a crowd because who wants to cook on a Wednesday if they can avoid it. read more

I must start with, I was never a fan of Golden Corral. Iv been to the one in Gurnee, and Aurora...all tasted Bland to me. But this place? My waitress was super nice and attentive. The food was seasoned well, I saw food constantly getting filled and switched to ensure freshness...and the best part? The new grill guy who does the steaks!!! I always believe that eating at a buffet is a gamble, it's going to be good or very bad. I will say that this Golden Corral wound up on the good side. My first impression was that this restaurant was void anything smelling bad and was fairly clean. While paying for our meal, the cashier mentioned that was a senior discount, it's the one thing I always forget to ask for when paying. There were plenty of open tables to sit at and once seated, our waitress (Conception) came over and introduced herself and went about her business. She made sure that the table was always cleared of dirty dishes and made sure that glasses were never empty. There were plenty of selections to choose from and all the trays seemed to be full and fresh looking. Would like to see some sugar free desert options. My only two concerns would be that even though there are signs about young children helping themselves, which always bothers me. I have seen kids take something, taste it, and then put it back. And none of the employees did anything to stop this from taking place. And the floor could have used a little bit of sweeping. read more

If I could leave negative, I would at least. Normally other golden Corral's are good and we came to visit this one since it was in the area. They have a shrimp and smoked sirloin even at the moment. The peel and eat shrimp is not cooked. I don't know if they are trying to be the WWE, but it was still RAW. It looked like they took the gray/raw shrimp then soaked it in water until it changed to the lightest color of orange. It was still pretty translucent. Me and my Fiancé stopped by to enjoyed a nice evening brunch after a hiking trip. Little did we know that we would experience a total unsatisfied meal at Golden Corral. For starters, our server was polite and bright but only came once to see how we were doing. She only came to introduce herself and not come back. Additionally, there was workers who were on the phone and preparing meals at the same time.Which is totally unprofessional and unsanitary. Once in a while I visit buffets to see if they have something new or something good, and that determines how soon I'm coming back. Today, they gave me a generous serving of this moist and tender medium well steak, very much to my liking, I forgot they also had prime rib. Wow. Usually on a typical visit here I would rate it 4 or 5 stars, depending on the service. I generally come for breakfast and it's usually really good. Not today. The only reason I'm giving 3 stars is because Bertha made an awesome omelet, as always. Seriously, she makes the best omelet in the area, hands down. Even if all you eat is an omelet and some hash browns, it's well worth the price, which is less than nearby places charge for an omelet, and their coffee is extra. Golden Corral includes coffee. The rest of the meal was another story. No hash browns or hash brown casserole, and when I asked, I was told, oh, the truck hasn't come yet today. I suppose that would also be their excuse for not having breakfast meats cooking, a whole bunch of trays that were empty the whole time I was there, and most of the hot buffet items that were not empty being cold and dried out. Managed to find some warm bacon and sausage links, but that's about it. The server did not write her name on my ticket, like they usually do when you first sit down, and that should have been a tipoff that the service would be lousy. She sauntered up to the table, coffee pot in hand, and when I asked for decaf, she rolled her eyes and sighed. It went downhill from there. Had to ask repeatedly for more water and coffee, and dirty plates and juice glasses stayed piled on the table until we were done eating, even though there were only three tables seated in my half of the dining room including mine. The management were so disrespectful and rude when we alerted them of the diagnosis. The health department has been called. The management at Golden Corral were completely offended and have asked us not to return. After they asked us not to return we asked for a refund please and they told us that Golden Corral Joliet s policy states that once you sit down and start eating there is nothing they can do. So please, I advise you, if you want cold food, horrible service, roach infested bathrooms then go ahead and visit them. Went on a Sunday around 11:15 when the change over from breakfast to dinner was happening and I'd say about 90% of items were out fresh and waiting with the exception of Golden Corrals famous break that was not all that soft and warm.other then that staff was nice overall and bathrooms were clean and freshly bleached so I'd go there again! read more

We visited yesterday 7/24/2020. The new Covid serving way does not work in the Joliet restaurant! We decide to go because we had a wonderful experience in Golden corral in Wisconsin two weeks ago. To start the cashier had the mask only on his mouth. That's unacceptable. We sat and the menus are now on the table and The waitress comes takes your order. The food took forever to come out. Once served, 3 out of 4 orders were incorrect. They were missing and item or two. So that said, the waitress went back to request the missing orders didn't offer any spices or condiments. By the time she came back my steak was cold and finally brought us condiments. Then the missing item came one at a time! Didn't come back together. Making the first serve plate cold. It was a mess. Horrendous service.! The food never came all together. Waitress ended up giving my husband the shrimp to go. We ordered two jumbo shrimp orders, one for my son one for my husband. my sons came in and my husband did not. And we ordered them at the same time. Why would the cook not fry both orders at the same time!? The only thing that was served in a timely matter, was the dessert. Well I thought I would give it a try!! I should have ripped up the $34 I spent for my husband and I to eat here. There is nothing and I mean nothing edible here. Everything is old, cold and stale! The employees stand in the open and eat with the same gloves they serve food with. Rudeness runs rampant and almost all the employees stand openly on their phones once again with the same gloves they are serving food with. I am repulsed. I quit eating immediately. I addressed the manager who was very nice and brought out hot fresh food to the table. I would rather have been offered the money back for a meal I could not eat. Unfortunately the staff he has to work with is just the worse ever. Kudos to the server whose name is Adri for working nonstop cleaning and clearing plates off tables while everyone else is too busy to do anything but talk on their phones and eat!! If I ever told someone that I went to Joliet to go to a buffet, I'd lose my Yelp credibility. Oh wait. I said it. Let me preface that by saying, it wasn't my idea. I was off work and bored at home alone. My mom called and said she was going to Golden Corral so I figured I'd tag along -- not necessarily for the food but for the shopping. I went in with a lot of previous opinions from others about how bad it sucks, so I had low expectations. Maybe that was why I liked it? I'm not your typical buffet eater. There were a lot of those around me though--you know the type. Gorging on as much food as possible as to only have to eat once that day. Me however, I usually go just to eat bread, soup, salad and dessert and rarely do I ever make it over to the 'hot' food. This was no exception. Bread - Their 'yeast rolls' were so fresh and delicious and one of the highlights. They also had some garlic cheese bread that was supposed to be like the Red Lobster biscuits but they weren't as good. Soup - It was Friday so they had clam chowder and it was delicious. Very creamy and had lots of clams and potatoes. I was also surprised at how warm it was. Buffets aren't known for having warm food so that was good. Salad Bar - Huge selection. There were pasta salads, seafood salad, potato salad, cottage cheese, caesar/garden and every topping you can imagine. Larger than most salad bars I've seen and everything I tried tasted good. Dessert - I had a lemon tart. It was okay but obviously not made by a fancy pastry chef. I only ate half of it. There was also a Mexican bar, Chinese food, burgers, pizza, etc. I didn't get to eat any of that so I won't comment on it, but there was a big selection. Overall, I thought the price was a little high for someone like myself that only goes for the soup and salad. $9.10 for lunch without a drink and around $11 with a drink, but I think it was a great value for the guy at the table next to me who had at least 6-7 plates. read more

This place has definitely given Old Country Buffet a run for its money. The selection is so much bigger and I would stick with their steaks if you really want to get your moneys worth. With that said, the parking lot seems to be jam packed every time I pass by it on Jefferson, even on unassuming times like a Monday afternoon and there's always a shitload of kids unsupervised running around your table. Average service with basically average food. Often the restaurant is somewhat of a mess, which I blame on sloppy clients; however, you need enough staff to keep up with the people. Parents really need to learn how to take care of their children. So many times there are bratty kids running around while people are trying to have a relaxing meal. I am thankful for those who instill class and manners in their children. The salad bar is great for vegetarians, but the rest is very meat and carb-oriented. Explain to me how a bargin buffet does not put any new food out 40 minutes prior to closing on a Saturday night. When we come in we are not met to a WELCOME or HODY but more or less the buffet is what the buffet is. Nothing new is going to come out and you can take it or leave it. The price is the same regardless so take a look and see what you want to. No concern for customer service and basically apathetic when we were like "no we are good". I would give my most recent experience 0 stars if I could. 10 minutes waiting in line because they only have 1 cashier. Finally get my drink order taken, when all the to-go orders come up at once. So not only do I have to wait longer as the cashier tries to mix in a few to-go ring ups too... but then the manager comes up and tries to expedite the process... by having the cashier ring up all the to-go orders in a row despite the now 15 people behind me waiting to dine in. I came here on a day when I was particularly hungry and could not decide what type of cuisine I wanted to eat. And I'd have to say I came at the right time because it was not crowded at all. I was able to get in and eat and get out relatively quickly, and before the crowd showed up. This is a pretty decent location and it's been consistently clean the few times I've been here. And the staff has always been friendly. I don't really make it a habit to go to buffets anymore but if I find myself in the position of not being able to decide what I want to eat, I'll come back here if in the area. read more

Old Country Buffet, step aside. I first stepped into one of these restaurants out on vacation in Colorado. I fell in love then, and I am still in love with it now. This restaurant is buffet times ten. Not only do they have a large selection of salads, soups, and sides, but the entree choices are beyond belief. At least three different chicken, fish, and vegetarian entrees each, and more than six different kinds of vegetables. But the highlight of this buffet is the steak.
