Great service and very friendly. Just the food its pretty low quality. The only thing I enjoyed eating was the fried chicken and mashed and gravy which reminds me so much of Hometown Buffet. Pretty nostalgic for me. Everything else...the quality of the food..I couldn't really bring myself to eat them. As for dessert, I enjoyed a spoonful of banana pudding on top my jello. That was good enough for me. The whole vibe of the place, its not something I would like to go Back to. But the service was top notch, Ill give them 5 star for service and 2 for the food. I visited Golden Corral Buffet & Grill on Sunday, 2/18/24, around 2 PM for lunch. Food: I tried a variety of different food items. Here are my ratings on a scale from 1-5, along with the description: Meatloaf: 2.5/5 (good flavor, served cold) Brussels Sprouts: 3/5 (prepared well, needed a touch of salt) Mac & Cheese: 3/5 (served hot, fine flavor) Pozole: 5/5 (flavorful) Grilled Steak: 2/5 (tough, under-seasoned) Grilled Corn: 4/5 (tasted good) Zucchini: 3/5 (cooked well, needed a touch of salt) Ultimately, my favorite food item to consume was the Pozole. I added shredded lettuce and diced onions inside of the bowl. The soup tasted even better with squeezed lemon juice. Generally speaking, it was nice to see that this location served Pozole and Grilled Corn. I usually do not see these foods offered at other locations. I wasn't able to try any desserts because I got full. The variety of treats offered looked awesome. Service: The service was friendly but not too attentive. It took a while to receive silverware at the table. I also walked up to the soda station a couple of times to catch the staff member's attention for a refill. Ambiance: The restaurant was busy and a tad chaotic with a lot of individuals. It was difficult to maneuver at times. The floor was slightly dirty. The bathroom was not the cleanest and had an unfortunate, putrid odor. Finally, the parking lot was overly crowded due to the construction. I had to wait for quite some time for someone to leave. Well..... Golden Corral is one of the those buffets that you know the food will be mediocre so I had low standards for this place. But you know what, I was surprised on some items! Like the pozole wasn't quite bad. A little more seasoning but it wasn't bad. Clam chowder was good, and I did enjoy the fried shrimp. I have not been to a buffet in a number of years. Some of my kids had never been to a buffet. They really seemed to enjoy it. There is something here for everyone. I used to think that it was super expensive for what you get. But not proportionally to fast food. Honestly, our out the door price was not a whole lot more than a trip to McDonald's for our family and the food is much better than fast food. As long as you are not going here expecting a gourmet restaurant, I think you will be pleased. It is a good family atmosphere. Most people Road dining had children with them. It is a bit noisy but once again, take the type of establishment this restaurant is into consideration and it is not an unreasonable noise level. This place is literally disgusting. I can't believe it's not been shut down yet. There were trays stacked on top of each other because they were transitioning from breakfast to lunch and instead of keeping the rest of the breakfast food hot they stacked it on top of the lunch tray they were putting out. The food has no flavor. The service is awful. The grill is extremely dirty. There were buckets of broken eggshells left out from breakfast and vegetables, not being refrigerated. I had never been. I was traveling through Modesto and decided to stop in. I'm glad I did. Its not a 5 star restaurant but let me tell you, the place was clean and the variety of different types of food was expansive. The steak was better than some I've paid $50 for and the fried chicken was crispy and tender. The staff was very helpful and friendly, especially LaReyna who kept checking on my beverage and making sure I had everything I needed. She was in constant motion the whole time. When I left, I thanked her and she told me that she had been working there for 13 years!! She went on to say, "I love my job" So very rare to find someone like that these days. Dropped in for some lunch buffet on a Friday afternoon. There was heavy construction going on in the parking lot but the restaurant was unaffected. Business was slow and they were quick to greet me, charge me, and get me eating. For as slow as they were it was hard to find a table that wasn't dirty in the limited sections they had open. The food here really never impresses me. Today was no exception. Their chili was cold, and so was their Cajun pasta. The macaroni tasted bland like it was from a kids freezer meal and the spaghetti was just ok. I did enjoy the fried chicken and mashed potatoes with brown gravy. I also had a pretty good salad. Although I didn't have any dessert, that all looked really good too. I don't really expect to have my mind blown at a buffet. I go in fully expecting a bunch of mediocre choices and I'm ok with that. I am usually very satisfied when I go to Golden Corral but todays visit sucked. Our waitress gave us horrible Service to the point to where I had to go get my own drink behind the counter and so did a few other people in my group. It was not busy, the waitress just had a nasty attitude from the beginning. I got charged 84 bucks for a cold mediocre breakfast with nothing to drink. I don't think I will be going back. I regretted going there after I left, I should of went to Dennys or the waffle shop. So not worth the money I spent at Golden Corral. read more

We drove all the way to Modesto from San Jose to get our Golden Corral fix, since Hometown Buffet closed down over here. Also to visit my main man Ethan AKA Karmakazi. Golden Corral gets a 3 star review purely on the fact that they're a buffet. Most of the food here is mid at best, with most of it actually being bad (don't touch the Asian food). But the fact that you can eat as much as you want still gives this place value. We came for dinner, which gave us access to their famous steaks. Truth be told, the steaks were pretty low quality. Most of my cuts were super tough despite being medium or medium rare. Always ask the guy for medium rare or rare I guess. Nevertheless, the fact that you get AYCE steak here makes it so I can't give this place a low review. Just spam the steak and douse it in steak sauce :^) What sets this Golden Corral apart from other locations would be the service. The staff was super attentive with water refills and was overall super friendly. The venue was large and spacious too. It's much less likely to fill up and cause a wait than other locations I've been to. Looking back, Golden Corral here in Modesto is an average to below-average American style buffet. However, it's super cheap and AYCE, so you can't really go wrong. I was disappointed to find that there was no chocolate fountain but apparently that's been discontinued for a while. Everything was to my liking: ...Large selection of food ...Food was fresh ...Clean interior ...Friendly and accommodating manager and staffs ...plenty of parking spaces ...Best COVID protocol of all the buffets I've been to so far. They have hand-sanitizer readily available for your convenience and ask that you wear mask and gloves (provided) while serving yourself. I am pleased and felt safe and clean to dine here. They didn't give our full money back because we had a plate there but had we would have know there were roaches there we would have never ate NOTHING!! I wish I could give a negative star. My father, a disabled veteran, attempted to have lunch at the Golden Corral in Modesto yesterday (Friday 10/4/24) with his friends. I, as his caregiver, was told by the manager, Miriam, I was not allowed to accompany my father, (who cannot walk on his own without a cane and has no use of his left hand) without paying. I explained that I was not having lunch, I was his caregiver and accompanying him for assistance only. She said I had to pay to go in. I explained again, that I was not going to eat, I was there only as his caregiver. She and the cashier said, "We believe you, but you can't go in unless you pay". It's disgusting that a disabled person with a caregiver has to pay for lunch twice to eat once. Shame on them. Their Corporate office has been notified. No response yet. Figures. read more

We stopped by here on our family trip, starving and wanting a decent buffet experience. We did not get a decent experience. We got a mediocre one at best. The service from the cashier was exceptional. He was nice and helpful. Our waitress, though, wasn't. She wasn't very much rude, but she wasn't attentive to the customers and so many times I had family members contemplate getting up and refilling their own drinks because it was very long in between refills and half the time we had to get her attention to get service. The food was terrible and not at all how we remember it being back in the day. A lot of the food was old, stale, cold, and rotten?? I couldn't have a lemon with the cup of menudo I got because the Lemons were rotting and slimy. About the only decent thing here was the meat that they cut and serve you, but it was relatively tough and dry with no horseradish sauce, just plain A1. The dessert selection was wack and had the same quality as the rest of the food. No more chocolate fountain. All in all, I feel like I wasted money and time eating here. I left hungry, which shouldn't happen at a buffet, haha. Maybe we came on a bad night, I'm not sure, but even on a bad night, it doesn't excuse the rotting food and old/stale food. I gave them 2 starts because there were SOME food items that were decent and they're a buffet, so that's something because we don't have many of those anymore.
