The childhood nostalgia hits every time. I've been coming to golden donut place since the 90s. This donut shop is a staple in Arcadia and I have fond memories of coming here as a kid and the donuts are so good that years later I am still going out of my way to come back here. While nostalgia plays a big part in my loving this place, I also promise you these are the best donuts I've had anywhere. They are no frills, classic donuts done right. I can't find a place where I currently live that have donuts like these guys. The donuts here are light and fluffy for any of their glazed donuts and the cake batter donuts are the most cake-like and fresh tasting donuts I've had anywhere. I have a go to order and it's elite. I order one chocolate glaze donut, one cake donut with white frosting and sprinkles, and one chocolate milk (their milk manufacturer is local). It's a sugar rush of a combination and definitely something that you should order no more than 1-2x a year but it's unmatched. The donuts here are just so fresh and light that they will always be my favorite. The donut shop itself is small but thankfully they have plenty of parking in a shared lot with a few other businesses. Inside like any donut shop you order at the counter, pay and head out. It's small inside so they keep it moving. The husband and wife duo owners are lovely and efficient. Nice people and I love supporting a local business that has been able to last the test of time. New donuts and trendy donuts come and go but I'm happy people see this place for its worth and value the art that goes into making these donuts so consistent and delicious all of these years. Prices seem standard to me. I get two donuts and a chocolate milk for under $5. It's the milk that even makes it that pricey but again not bad at all. The lady is SUPER RUDE! It was my first time there with my kids, she didn't even speak to us. Not a hello, or a welcome. She only spoke to me until I asked if she accepted apple pay. She just put her 5 fingers up and said "spend more than $5". I was charged $10 for a chocolate croissant, croissants, orange juice and a donut. I didn't check my bank account until the next day. I went back and when I asked her why I was charged so much, she gave me a horrible attitude and handed me a new receipt with charges adding up to $10. I told her to please next time, give me a receipt. She began throwing things around and speaking to her husband in their language. Horrible customer service. $1.75 for a small donut? I come here every so often to get donuts, the service is always fast and they're very friendly. This is the first time I had their iced coffee and let me tell you I fell in love with the first sip. And well some of them are good especially when they're fresh when I'm bringing donuts in for my coworkers I always am looking for the best quality. One of my coworkers when it's her turn to bring in donuts they always seem to disappear the quickest and I asked her where she went and she told me golden donut place. I've always seen it but for whatever reason I've never stopped there , but let me tell you what that's the only place I'm going now. My favorite is the glazed old-fashioned and it's fresh , a little crispy and soft in the middle sweet but not disgustingly sweet. The cake donuts with sprinkles one of my daughter's favorites are soft and moist with a ton of sprinkles in the white icing. Today I picked up the ham and cheese croissant and had her warm it up for me and it was big enough to share. It's really good it's more of a flaky bread than a croissant and if you can take it home slice it all the way in half and put an egg in it next level breakfast sandwich. Also I was able to purchase a half a dozen donuts for seven dollars which is cheaper than any donut place in town or the next town over. This is petty penny pincher complaint, but I don't like this place because I came here one morning a little before 8 a.m. for a coffee and a cream cheese croissant. It cost $3.01. I didn't have a penny, so I gave the lady $4.00. She gave me 95 cents as change. And I thought to myself, "so you take my WHOLE dollar because you wanted that penny, and not only do you take my whole dollar, but you take an additional 4 cents." Great, thanks for being a super cheap penny pinching store owner. The croissant was fine. The coffee was not strong. This place might be 24 hours. I grew up around the area so my parents would bring back a dozen donuts after a morning walk. It was a nice treat on a Saturday morning because they would bring me back a chocolate chip muffin. But since the management has changed, the muffins are not tasty anymore and the customer service is surely unfriendly. I wouldn't come back here unless it were the only place open at 2:30 a.m. (which is likely) and I needed a dozen donuts. But it is likely that the donuts are stale and the lady will snub you on the change. read more

I used to live down the street from this place and would come here often because their donuts and hot coffee were good. I have since moved out of the area and thought I would stop by for a muffin and an iced coffee. After this trip, I will not be coming back. The muffin was just meh at best and the iced coffee was mostly ice with a little bit of actual coffee. There was a man and woman working behind the counter. BEST donuts in the area. The yeast dough for raised donuts is the real deal, they are the perfect texture of a raised donut. Light and just a bit spongey, not dense or bready and no cloying after-taste. The cake donuts, again, perfect texture and not greasy. The glazes etc are just right. But my absolute favorites are the crullers-not found at all shops. The crullers are done the right way. This is no hipster haven with all sorts of unusual combo donuts. This is the best little neighborhood donut shop. I used to live within walking distance from here but now I love about 30 minutes away so anytime I'm coming back from Pasadena area, I try to stop by to pick up some glazed twist donuts. I have coming to this mom and pop donut shop for years with my kids. This is a basic no frills donut store. They have all the popular varieties. The proprietors are kind and the prices are fair. That being said, the prices on donuts everywhere have gone up. As far as the taste of the donuts, they are solid. Nothing earth shattering, but they taste fresh. This place came highly recommended by a good friend. I am not a big fan donuts but I do have my favorite and a willingness to try. On each visit to this shop, I had either tried a plain or a custard filled chocolate donut. The treats themselves are not even as tasty as Krispy Kreme or even Winchel's. They are all right; not worthy of the high price especially with the poor customer service). I put up with the pitiful attitude with hopes that the owner and his helpers (this is a family owned and run) would take notice of my friendly and courteous demeanor, hence, return the 'favor'. Well, I stopped wasting my time, energy, effort and hard earned money after this morning incident. My 6 lb dog and I went for our morning walk. It was a warm day. I stopped by the shop to ask the owner if I could have a small cup (not for myself) of tap water for my dog. He looked coldly at us, "No water." I thought he might misunderstand my inquiry, "Just a little for my dog." He glared with extreme rude manner, "No more water!". I was taken aback. Even the customer stood next to me looked at me in disbelief. I walked out the door. I should have asked, "What do you use to make coffee for your customers?". That was the final straw. I have decided to take my business elsewhere and make certain that my friend and others will do likewise. The Internet will help spread the 'wild fire'. All in all, the donuts are average. This is one of the best donut shops around! I have been coming here ever since I was a kid and nothing has changed. They have kept the same owners for as long as I can remember. Its pretty small but your in-and-out in a sec so no big deal. All the locals come here. They have a large variety of donuts and they always taste so fresh no matter when I go. The best thing about these donuts is that they are light and fresh, not super doughy tasting so if you like thick donuts dont go here. They also have a great selection of boba/smoothies/and milk shakes. They are super tasty and not very expensive. Trust me, take the advice of someone who has been coming here a long time and actually has a range of good n bad reviews, not just someone who rates every place they go to as bad. *wink wink. =) read more

I'm giving such a low score and have chosen to shop elsewhere because I have seen flies in the donut cases. Additionally, I'm not impressed with any other aspect of the store. The donuts themselves are not anything to write home about. A few times, they have even been stale. The hot chocolate is good, as are their tapioca drinks. They have milk on hand. This is a cash only store. I would not term their customer service "friendly." They're not overly rude, though they can be a bit abrupt. The donuts here are ok. You usually have to wait for people buying lottery tickets. I've stopped by here quite a few times and have purchased doughnuts. On one occasion I think I was 5 cents short on a doughnut which I thought the woman would still be nice and help me out, but she did not. I know she's trying to run a business and everything but I thought that since I've been a regular customer for over a year she'd let 5 cents slide. Owned by an Asian family. I hate places that don't accept cards as payment which is my only complaint. They do have an ATM that charges $1.75 rather than the usual $3-4. Does this place ever close?! I went in to buy a lotto ticket and got a glazed donut. It was good,the place looks like they have some good coffee drinks if that's your thing. It was clean and the donuts looked fresh. The clerk who I assume is the owner didn't seem too engaging/freindly so they lose a star for that. And yes customer service does make a difference,doesn't matter what type of establishment it is! Donut shops,especially hole in the walls are a dime a dozen. read more
