This place has amazing food, a great selection of different things other Chinese places don't have, however they need to learn how to clean better, the walls where we sat not once but twice were nasty with sweet & sour sauce etc.. maybe they don't think to wipe the walls in the cleaning routine because everything else looks clean. I've lived in Placerville for 11 years. Grew up in the bay area and have lived in the central valley. I have also been in the restaurant business my entire life. I have experienced a LOT of great Chinese food.This was our go to place when we first moved here. Not quite what you would get in the bay area, but good. I ordered and paid online through their website. I even received an e-mail and text message saying they confirmed my order. When I went in to pick it up they claimed they never received my order even after showing them the confirmation. They were unwilling to fulfill my order and we're going to make me pay again. We have lots of options when it comes to Chinese restaurants in the Placerville area. Two on Placerville Dr., two on Broadway (yes, I'm counting Chucks), the Panda Express by WalMart and there are probably several others I just can't think of right now. I've eaten at all, and they all serve a decent meal - Americanized Chinese food for sure and that's ok. Golden Dragon - I don't know what the draw is, but I eat here much more often than all the others. The food/service/location - it's all good! Never had a bad meal, the take out is great and the prices are very reasonable with good portion sizes. The lunch specials are a good value too! I am a fan. read more

My daughter and I went here last week and I was truly underwhelmed. I based our visit on reviews here. I honestly believe this is the best Chinese in town, but that's faint praise indeed. My daughter got orange chicken and I got general chicken, these being our favorite dishes. The sauces tasted essentially the same! Moreover, the overall impression was bland for both dishes. I can understand trending toward too sweet with orange chicken (to satisfy people such as my 10yr old daughter), but being bland just doesn't work. My general chicken was similarly impaired (like I said, the sauces tasted the same). I was encouraged to put our ala carte meals into a combination plate. The mound of chow mien noodles and chicken fried rice were overwhelming! What is lost in quality is certainly made up for in quantity. My both of my girls ate on the remains of the meals for two additional days. I like that there was quantity involved, but for my money, I would MUCH prefer more flavor and better ingredients. I will say that the carafe with iced tea was a nice touch, as was the fact that it was bottomless! read more

We ordered takeout, and said we'd be there at 7:00 to pick it up, they were bringing out food out just as we walked in. Perfect timing. We got an appetizer, a large soup, and 3 entrees for less than $50!!! And the portions were HUGE. Everything tasted fresh, and delicious. My family has been eating here for close to 13 years. It is the best Chinese food around, in my opinion. The pot stickers are freshly made and to die for. I have never liked pot stickers but I love theirs. Another appetizer I love is the crab rangoon, tasty wontons wrapped around crab meat and cream cheese. The sizzling rice soup is not to be missed. Sometimes my kids fill up on it before they have the meal. Last, but definitely not least, I have to mention the sesame chicken. We always order this. I am usually tempted to order two so we have more to take home. Yes, sadly, we fight over the leftovers. The staff is friendly. The service is prompt and the water glasses are kept full. There is not one thing I would change about this place except maybe having it in Cameron Park instead of Placerville - less of a drive for us! read more

We have been going to Dignity Dragon Chinese off and on for over 20+ years. We went to visit them last night and found out the business decided to lock up shop after 35 years service the community. The sign on the door states that we can try Golden Dragon. Have never been and the funny thing is I used to work in the same shopping center for years, but never went. We went last night and we are glad we did. It was 6:30-7pm'ish, and they had lots of take out orders and about 4 tables inside filled. Food came quickly, lots of food and GOOD food. It was delicious. So much better than Dignity Dragon, We are so glad we tried it. The only reason the review gets 4 stars is because they were not busy and the service in terms of checking on us, getting refills on drinks and getting our bill and paying slow was painfully SLOW!. I have been to the Golden Dragon for lunch only probably 20 times over the past 5 years. I think their food is very good, with large servings and great flavor. The wait staff is very friendly and efficient. The ambiance of the restaurant is somewhat lacking probably due to its large open layout. Only other comment is that I wish the general chicken was a bit more spicy, but it's still very good. My grandsons love going there with Grandma and Grandpa (me). I think the lunch menu is terrific and prices very reasonable. read more

after a long day of snowboarding and unexpected traffic on the way back, we were super hungry. took a chance on this place, and we were all very pleased! the service was great! all the food came when they were supposed to, it's not like we had the sweet and sour pork and was waiting for the rice (i hate when restaurants bring food out at intervals!) it was pretty tasty too. didn't care too much for the kung pao chicken tho. and even better - the price was right. we were a party of four who had soup, appetizers, chow mein, fried rice, and 3 dishes all for $45. overall, it was an unexpectedly great meal. thumbs up! read more

I usually order a chicken dish so I can't speak for any other meats but the chicken is always high quality, white meat unlike some other Chinese food I've had. Growing up in SF and still living in the SF Bay area, I eat a lot of Chinese food. And Golden Dragon's food is almost as authentic as the Chinese food I've had in our area. They even have chow fun, one of my favorites (but it might be "oily" to others). I ordered the asparagus and calamari. The calamari was really soft and the asparagus cooked the way I liked it, but it had a pretty strong fermented black bean sauce flavor (which I grew up with but might be too "unusual" for those accustomed to the usual, popular Chinese fare). Once a month our group chooses a restaurant to meet at and have dinner, provided they can accommodate us and are willing to do separate checks. This month it was Golden Dragon. They set us up in the back room and I believe our waitress's name was Kim. She handled our group of about 22 by herself and she did a great job. She kept up on our drinks and none of us had to wait a long time for our dinner while others finished. She really did a great job considering she handled the entire room alone.
