After spending two weeks in Fairbanks, one piece of advice kept coming up from the locals: "You…read morehave to eat here." They weren't wrong. From the moment I walked in, the staff made me feel genuinely welcome -- not just well served, but truly looked after. Attentive without hovering, friendly without forcing it, the kind of hospitality that makes you instantly relax. The food selection was dangerously good. The kind of menu that makes you abandon all self-control and think, "I'll just try a bit of everything." No regrets there. Special mention to the bar staff, whose cheerful, infectious outlook on life set the tone for the entire place. Her energy alone could warm a Fairbanks winter -- and honestly, a raise should already be on the way That warmth carried through the whole restaurant, creating an atmosphere that felt inviting for everyone, whether you're a local regular or a frozen traveller passing through. Thank you to the entire team for making me feel so welcome over the Christmas and New Year period and for adding another unforgettable memory to my time in Fairbanks. "Be careful... Alaska will get you".

We were saying at the hotel so came here twice…read more - Crab stuffed mushrooms: comes with a cream sauce; best thing we ate here - Cajun pasta: the pasta was extremely overcooked but the sauce was nice enough although I wish it had more spice and flavor. The reindeer sausage is actually a little spicy and while the menu lists another type of sausage, I'm not sure if I saw that. The shrimp was not overcooked which I appreciated. - The garden salad is pitiful but we were craving veggies, and it does come with housemade dressing which is good. - Fish and chips came with 3 semi-decent sizes of fish that weren't overcooked but the batter was slightly undercooked inside and the fries were decent. It came with coleslaw which was good. We asked for another tartar sauce and it was a $2 extra to our surprise. - the blackened halibut special was not that good, overcooked, but the mango salsa on top was delicious. The yellow rice was much too watery and bland as if it was microwaved, but it seemed like they would give you another side (i.e. mash potatoes) if requested. It was also $45 which was more expensive than I expected so I'd ask for the price next time before I order any specials. Beverages: - the arctic warrior draft beer was crisp and light; I'd get this again - the best beer I had in Fairbanks so far

When I was a little girl, my parents didn't read me the typical princess fairytale bedtime stories…read more- I was a Sourdough; an Alaskan. Poems and ballads of Robert Service were spun to life as I was nestled into a swirl of downy rest. 'The Cremation of Sam McGee' was a favorite... a tale of sled dogs and friendships only the Yukon could build. But the story I always wanted to hear was 'The Shooting of Dan McGrew'... a cold blooded murder, a dusty piano, and a Lady that's known as Lou. The setting: The Malemute Saloon. Most childhood bedtime stories are set in fictional places with fictional characters. The Malemute Saloon was not only a real place, but a place that I knew and loved. My father, the bartender; my mother, the honky-tonk piano player. This place is legit. Sawdust floor, swinging doors, bar stools worn with years. The memories (now 20 years old) still fresh as new fallen snow. Huskies howling at the Northern Lights and the crunch of peanut shells under mud-caked boots. I couldn't think of a place more suited to raise a child. And, mark my words, the best custard you'll ever eat.
