There's really not much to do in Fairbanks, AK. Since this was by our lodge, we decided to eat here. The first time was a hamburger, the second time was a salad. The staff was always super friendly and enjoyable, and the food and drinks always hit the spot. The food was good, nothing elaborate or extravagant, but well prepared and tasty. We were saying at the hotel so came here twice. - Crab stuffed mushrooms: comes with a cream sauce; best thing we ate here - Cajun pasta: the pasta was extremely overcooked but the sauce was nice enough although I wish it had more spice and flavor. The reindeer sausage is actually a little spicy and while the menu lists another type of sausage, I'm not sure if I saw that. The shrimp was not overcooked which I appreciated. - The garden salad is pitiful but we were craving veggies, and it does come with housemade dressing which is good. - Fish and chips came with 3 semi-decent sizes of fish that weren't overcooked but the batter was slightly undercooked inside and the fries were decent. It came with coleslaw which was good. We asked for another tartar sauce and it was a $2 extra to our surprise. - the blackened halibut special was not that good, overcooked, but the mango salsa on top was delicious. The yellow rice was much too watery and bland as if it was microwaved, but it seemed like they would give you another side (i.e. mash potatoes) if requested. It was also $45 which was more expensive than I expected so I'd ask for the price next time before I order any specials. Nice atmosphere and a nice upscale hotel in the area. We've been there after they had a kitchen fire so they had a very limited menu that was mostly deep fried foods in a couple soups. I'd be interested in going back when they have their full menu again I would note that everything is fairly expensive but that's what you get in a lot of Alaska. read more

The three-star rating is pretty accurate, but the service was five-stars, so bumping it up a star. Our server was attentive, checked in with us, and had our food out in a timely manner. We got their signature vodka-infused berry cocktail for $15 and it was huge; a giant martini glass filled with ice, fruit juice and berries soaked in vodka. Worth it. Food-wise, I got the Ragin' Cajun pasta which wasn't all that ragin' in terms of spice level. I was expecting more of a spicy tomato sauce, but ended up with quite a cheesy sauce with reindeer sausage, plump pieces of shrimp, chicken, and some hot Italian and Andouillle sausage. Not bad in terms of spice, but maybe just something to be aware of if you're sensitive to dairy. The two slices of bread were very good. Overall, pricy for what it is, but it was conveniently located next to our hotel, has a reindeer ranch next door, and a viewing deck of the Chena River and Love Alaska sign. I'd come back for that cocktail alone. Update: Just saw they had a fire last Friday. They are still open, but will be located inside of Pike's Waterfront Lodge. Closest to the airport. Very nice lobby and connecting areas. Rooms are clean with microwave and good refrigerator and king sized bed available. Restaurant options are good, as is the food. Salad was great and full of vegetables. Chicken in creamy pasta was good. Had 3 bay leaf's (4 pieces as one was on two pieces) actually in the sauce. Sauce was good but watery. Wasn't great. I was really surprised at how the Yelp and Google reviews differed. Yelp is significantly lower. We ordered the crab stuffed mushrooms, prawns with mashed potatoes, fish and chips, and the big berry blast. The total came out to around $120. So it is pricy. The server was a very nice. The food came out quickly and was hot. It was alright in terms of taste and it was large portions. The big berry blast ($15) really was big. I saw it and felt instant regret because I'd be drinking it alone. However it was very fruity and not strong at all. I finished the whole glass myself and didn't feel a buzz. The big pros of Pike's Landing are the location (for those staying at the Lodge or grabbing a bite to eat near the airport) and the hours. The kitchen is open until 10pm! Since summer 2024 they also have live reindeer. As someone put it, you can eat a reindeer burger while watching reindeer... It's a great option if you're staying at Pike's Waterfront Lodge and want American food. read more

Food was great! We had fish and chips, the stuffed mushrooms, and I had a side salad. It all came out quickly and tasted great. Our only issue was the server. She seemed "put out" that we had arrived at 9 o'clock. We stood at the door until she finally said pick any seat. We quickly looked to see if they were ready to close, but they didn't close till 10 PM. Another server started to vacuum next to us and roll up the rugs. We weren't the only ones that came in at nine. There were people who came in at 9:30. I'm not sure what the issue was but she served our food and she only came by once and then again when she brought the bill. She stood there waiting while I looked over the bill and figured the tip. The staff was very welcoming. It's a large restaurant attached to a sports bar restaurant-type vibe. There's an area where reindeer are hanging out next to the restaurant for easy viewing through floor-to-ceiling windows! Also, while sitting in the restaurant, you're able to see live footage of them on the TVs. The location is excellent along the riverfront to watch sunset go down. Music in the background is low to moderate. There were lots of groups celebrating birthdays, also perfect for couples with many seating options. Tarin was very attentive, prompt and courteous. The only reason we dined at Pike's Landing is because it was the only restaurant near our hotel (Pike's Waterfront Lodge). Based on the reviews I would not have been a choice. The sign said seat yourself, problem is they had two sections closed off and tables that needed to be cleaned. So we waited about 10 mins for a table to be cleaned. When we were seated, service wasn't very quick either. We waited some time for our waiter to bring us water. When he did, we ordered right away and our food came quickly. Hubby and I shared a burger and fries. The hamburger was dry and kinda tough. Not a place I'd go to again for a burger. Fries were average. We had a decent view of the river but after all our adventures in Alaska, it wasn't spectacular. Unless you are staying at the hotel, I wouldn't suggest eating here. read more

Was told no problem. First bite of the sandwich and my tongue started burning - yep, they used garlic butter. Sent it back for one made without garlic and he brought back the same sandwich, telling me there was no garlic on it. Meanwhile, my tongue was burning. They had the best food I've had in Fairbanks. The ambiance is casual, right beside Pike's Waterfront Lodge. The service is good. We expected fewer people since it was New Year's Day. My partner and I visited Fairbanks last year to see the Northern Lights. We chose Pike's because it has a restaurant near the lodging, and the restaurant opens on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Their food was surprisingly good, as we just wanted a casual place to eat. The price was as expected since we were on a popular vacation site. We ended up having most of our meals here: steaks, fish, crabs, and pasta. The food was excellent, but the menu items were limited. Yum! This place is excellent if you're looking for a nice steak dinner around town. After checking into the hotel and starving, we just decided to eat at the hotel restaurant. It was so delicious we went back our last night in town. Our server the first night was so wonderful. I didn't get her name, but she was knowledgeable regarding the menu, and recommended some great options. Our server on our last night; not so much. It was busier the second time around, but still, service was not great. The dinners however, EXCELLENT! The steak was so juicy and flavorful, and the mash potatoes were to die for! They were soooo creamy, buttery and so full of flavor. It was not a cheap dinner. With a couple adult beverages, getting the side salad, and upgrading one of the sides to onion rings, dinner for 2 was a bit pricy. But with all that said, this was a win, and I highly recommend Pike's Landing if you're in the mood for American fare. read more

I read the reviews prior to our visit and was tentative about going; but I'm glad I did. Greeted immediately by our server Christopher, he was attentive and highly responsive. The draft beer selection was impressive; I had the Warrior Ale that was local and tasty paired well with the crab stuffed mushrooms that were good and I thought a descent value for Alaskan prices. The Halibut chowder was outstanding. I had originally ordered the blackened Halibut but they were out during the height of tourist season but instead had salmon blackened with broccoli that was an outstanding choice. It too paired well with the warrior beer and finished off with the chocolate peanut butter pie that was excellent. First, they didn't have fish for two of the menu items which made me go with a chicken salad. When we asked for the bill, he saw I hadn't eaten the food, but he didn't ask if I needed a box to take the food or how was food. We were a little bit nervous reading the reviews for this place, but decided to try it because we were so tired of the cruise cafeteria food, glad we came here, Service was top notch, waiter approached us pretty much as soon as we sat down and took our drink order/got us water. We had halibut chowder, highly recommend, portion size was perfect for us, there were actual identifiable chunks of halibut and the garlic bread was perfect. My only piece of feedback for the restaurant is to invest in soup spoons, we ate our soup with teaspoons. We tried the New York cheesecake and Keylime pie. For our last dinner in Fairbanks we went to Pikes. It was fairly busy, but our server let us know that she will be with us shortly and she kept her word. The ambiance is of a lively sports-bar kind place. We decided on stuffed mushrooms for appetizer and they were super good! My husband ordered the ragin cajun and I got the coconut prawns. My son ordered the bacon burger and my other kid got the bacon Mac n cheese. The cocktails were fairly standard and the entrees & drinks came out to our table at reasonable time. The prawns were decent coconut prawns...not as sweet as I would have liked, but good coating and not oily. My husband did love his cajun dish. My kids enjoyed their meals as well. Well some great ideas and poor delivery, The main issue I have is we stayed in 202 above the broiler room. Every time they turned on the floor shook. The bed felt like we where at sea. When informing the front desk staff of this they where so surprised. Normally it's the elevator. They said they would send a bellman. He was nice and arrived 10 mins later immediately noticed and explained he would put in a work order 1st thing in the morning. We asked if they had a different room as I was feeling sea sick and we are on land. He was polite and explained they had nothing else. This place was packed for breakfast. Side note the gym is also right above you. It's a thin wall so you will hear people running. We got a s'more room - no s'mores we did get a small pie that was nice but kinda disappointing as we had made the selection before we arrived. They have a TV playing talking about all the great things that they have to offer. The Majority of which are not available. The staff seemed discussed that we had been asking questions about things that seemed to be common sense. For crying out loud you have a TV on the second floor talking about staying warm to watch the auroras but the view is inhibited by snow. WTF you know it snows here right? That's probably why the two large heaters on the wall had been installed to pump out large amounts of heat to move the snow off the windows! - if you didn't think of that you owe me money for my idea. The only staff members that did outstanding was the Ice Cream girl Amazing and nice to get an ice cream. The maintenance guy that set up the fire pit the last day. Then the bellman who came into our room to feel it vibrating. He was open and honest and noticed it right away. He didn't act like the front desk who looked at me like I was crazy. I don't want to hate on this place as it could have been a bad couple of days, but it just didn't hit the mark. My wife who booked emailed about the room and it's been 48 hours still no response. We got the Famous Prime Rib Sandwich with Dagwood Fixings (23.95): French roll, served with horseradish and Au Jus on the side with French fries and The Shrimp & Scallop Fettuccine Supreme (26.95): tossed in Parmesan Cream Sauce, bay scallops, and shrimp with roasted garlic bread. The prime rib was something different. I've never had a French dip with both horse radish and Au jus sauce. I've also never had a French dip with so many different types of veggies in it, but it was still a pleasant dish. The fettuccine was well-sized, with a good amount of seafood on the plate.
