Golden Garden a typical American Chinese food restaurant located at the center of Middle Neck Road in Great Neck. It's everything you expect from this type of restaurant. The prices are excellent, about $7.35 for a lunch special and add about 3 bucks more for a dinner sized portion. They have delivery available through their own website. The website also offers an option to pay by credit card and a tipping option. There's also a $1 delivery charge. I tried the pork egg foo young, beef and broccoli, and chicken wings and fries lunch specials. The egg foo young came with a teriyaki-like sauce. I ate the egg foo young without it and it just as good. The egg was well cooked with plenty of roast pork inside. The beef and broccoli had giant pieces of broccoli flowers and the sauce was very standard. The chicken wings were fried with a curry tasting powder, which I really liked. The fried arrived hot, not sweaty, which a compliment to their fast delivery driver. Golden Garden is a nice place to order from if you live nearby, ensuring fast delivery and good quality food. I can't believe that after almost 15 years in Great Neck and after over 120 Yelp reviews, I forgot to write one for my favorite Chinese take out spot! I've been ordering from Golden Garden for the past [probably] 12 or 13 years. I've been by their side as they've gone through new ownership and can still say that this is the best Chinese take out in town. It's hard to find a spot like this that's consistent and just as good each time you order, but I'd say Golden Garden is consistent 87% of the time. If you order during "off" times (like just before the dinner rush), I guarantee your food will be amazing. During dinner, it'll still be good but I can't guarantee it. My go-to's: Steamed Pork Dumplings- SO SO SO SO SO GOOD. I live in Manhattan now and can't find ones that compare. The dough is so thick and soft, the meat has just the right amount of salt, and the garlic sauce it's served with is bangin'! Hot and Sour Soup- Always filling, always good. ANY dish in garlic sauce- Whether its broccoli, chicken, shrimp, whatever. If you happen to order and it's not up to par, dump some soy sauce in it (I've learned through trial and error that's the best way to make it like Goldilocks likes her porridge..."just right"). This spot is a great place for good food at an amazing value. I got their lunch specials - general two's chicken with pork fried rice and a beef chow fun with two hot and sour soups. All these dishes have that classic Chinese takeout flavor. The chicken was very saucy and tasty. The beef chow fun was also really flavorful with a nice aroma. The pork fried rice wasn't too exciting but still decent. The hot and sour soup had a good balance between hot and sour with nice chunks of muchrooms in it. Overall this order was only $15 and the portions were super BIG. They also are taking COVID-19 very seriously and is very safe with transactions with customers. What I received looked more like orange tofu and broccoli! Never had garlic sauce but have had orange chicken and this tasted like orange sauce! I usually dont like to do reviews however there are cases when its necessary. I ordered some food to be delivery last night, I ordered the large wonton soup, a chicken Chow Fun and Dumplings. The only thing I liked was the Wonton Soup. I ate 1/4 of the Chow Fun and only 1/2 dumpling. The amazing thing is that when I placed the order online I wrote in two different places to be delivery in the rear door. Well the delivery guy not only bang the front door really hard he also left the food on the floor and thank god I just caught him leaving my house with my food on the floor. Woa, that tells me a lot. 1. They dont care, they dont read the order 2. You dont do that with food, its unethical. Nobody answered the front door because we dont use the front door, if they should have read my instructions this would not have happened. A previous reviewer stated she had been coming to Golden Garden for maybe 12 to 13 years. In order to clarify the facts, the current owners, a wonderful, humble and respectful family have been here in Great Neck between 6-7 years. So any reviews either positive or negative here on Yelp prior to that time are null. Now to my review. For many many years I had been eating Chinese food here in Great Neck at (among others) Yummy's or China Wok, (same owners) and prior to that Tea Village. That might be as much as 40 years ago! I never noticed Golden Garden as it's located in the stretch of Great Neck between the Old Village and the heart of Great Neck which gets lost in the sauce. About two years ago I decided to give it a try and I haven't gone anywhere else since. The food is consistently excellent. If these folks were running a sit down restaurant instead of a take-out with this quality of food it would be well known as the best one not only here but across Long Island. Before I go too overboard, a reality check. Years ago I asked a Chinese woman at Yummy's where she goes for Chinese. She responded, "Not here, the Chinese food here for you people, not real Chinese food, you go to Queens for real Chinese food, I give you phone number, you try, you like:)" So the Chinese food here and in every other restaurant in Great Neck is not REAL Chinese food that Chinese folks eat. I did try the place she recommended and in addition the famous Wu's Wonton King at 165 E Broadway in Manhattan and both were fabulous!! But I'll tell you what, I like Golden Garden as much but in a different way. Does that mean I don't know what I'm eating? Perhaps so. I like UNREAL Chinese food and Golden Garden is the best of that!! The folks here, particularly Jackie are so accommodating. I cannot digest anything with more than a tad of oil. After just one request they make everything special for me just the way I like it. If I prefer more of a specific vegetable they add it to any dish I want it in! My favorites here are the Shrimp with Lobster Sauce. The Lobster sauce is unique and unlike anything I've had elsewhere. Any of their dishes with Brown Sauce and/or Black Bean Sauce, the Chicken, the Beef, the Pork are tremendous!! I have a bad habit of sticking to the same dishes once I find something I like, but I do intend to explore other things here, it's a large menu. Finally if you spend more than $30 bucks you get a choice of a GIANT-SIZE soup for free. The portions, even the half-size portions are huge! In closing, if you want sit-down restaurant quality Chinese food at take-out prices THIS is the place for you!! read more
