This place is freaking amazing!! Was staying at the hotel across the street so gave it a shot on day 1. Good thing I did bc I then ate there every day. Even when I was in downtown and had a chance to eat there before coming back to the hotel, I waited and just ate at Golden Grain. They have like 20 pizzas ready to buy by the slice. My favorite was the chicken Parmesan slice. They also had so many more. And they were all high quality w loaded toppings. They have other stuff like subs, hamburgers, wings, etc. it all looked good but the slices were so good I just grabbed 2 each time. The people are friendly, nice, and helpful. Golden Grain definitely got an upgrade in quality (and ambiance, too) when it moved locations from the plaza across from Walmart to the new location further up Troy Road next to Exit 9. The pizza and food quality has been noticeably much better, and there's plenty of tables and eating space. The service is good. The staff I've always dealt with is incredibly friendly. Food is above-average pizza shop fare. Plenty of standard and specialty pizzas available to order, along with sandwiches and wraps, wings and so on. The pizzas are good, nothing mind-blowing. Good stuff if you're in a pinch or you want a quick couple slices. The wings are really good. This place also makes a mean buffalo chicken wrap - I just had one before writing this, and it was super fresh, chicken hot, crispy and cooked perfectly, just all-around a great wrap. I've ordered online for takeout and in-person here, and generally, the food is ready within the promised timeframe (with one exception, I had to wait an extra 15-20 minutes last time for my order of wings with the pizza - I think they forgot to make them). That leads me to my next point - make sure to double, even triple check your order when you get it to make sure it's correct. Fair warning if you're ordering delivery, you might not get the chance to do this. I went in to place an order, and while I waited, I watched maybe five other people come and pick up orders. 2 out of those 5 had orders that were incorrect or missing something. One of those people had actually only ordered two slices of pizza, and placed that order right at the counter, but they still grabbed the wrong slice to heat up. That being said though, the staff did a great job at correcting those errors. The guy who got the wrong slice of pizza got to keep the extra slice and they heated up the correct one he wanted. Another party who had to wait because they forgot to make part of the order, they were given a couple of free slices of cake for dessert for the wait. They definitely made the errors right, and that's why I'm going with 4 vs. 3 stars. read more

Neopolitan (round) pizza is very good but the Scillian (square) pizza is EXCELLENT! As a native of Long Island it is tough to find a pizza place up here in the capital region that even makes a traditional Scillian thick and crispy crust pizza but GOLDEN GRAIN does it well! Wings are good but not on par with Frank's out in Buffalo at Anchor. Menu is stocked with several cuisines at reasonable prices. East Greenbush location is beautiful and clean inside. My wife and I called in a pickup order and were told 15 to 20 min. After about 25 min we roll in and they have no idea where our pizza is. The kid up front went in the back to ask the chefs and nobody knew. We were clearly forgotten about. We were told 8 min and they would have a new pizza ready for us. Great. About 15 min later still no pizza and when asked about it we got nothing but attitude from the manager girl. You would think after now 45 min of waiting and still nothing they would offer a can of soda or maybe some mozzarella sticks anything to keep the customer happy. So of course when I received it I opened the container and two of my requests were missing. When I approached the counter to get it corrected, I was greeted with "what's up". Unfortunately another East Greenbush New York disappointment. Since moving into their new space several months ago I have noticed a tremendous amount of traffic in and out of the establishment. I figured I would give them some time before I tried it so they could iron out any wrinkles they may be faced with in the new building. Tonight was the night! Got a coupon in the advertiser that offered a large cheese pizza, garlic knots, and a 2 L bottle of soda for $11.99. Ordering was a bit of a challenge to understand their accent but it went as you would think it should. 20 minutes later, I picked up the dinner and brought it home. A common crucial error pizza places make today is under cooking the pizza. Pizza crust should be crispy on the outside and soft on the inside unless it's a thin crust pizza. This was a typical bar pizza not a Sicilian, and not thin crust. This particular pizza tasted like bread with sauce. I've had frozen pizzas far superior. It just wasn't good pizza. I don't wanna beat anyone in this review. It's just plain bland pizza. After the disappointment, I went to Yelp to read some of the reviews. It amazes me on what some people consider outstanding pizza. One person wrote, I'm a world traveler and golden crust nailed it. Another person wrote "finally a decent pizza on route four". I'm dumbfounded! In all fairness I will say this, value for what you get is excellent. I would also say that it's better than the local coffee shop pizza. And probably not a bad place to stop in if you're on lunch break at work and only have a couple of minutes to grab a quick slice. There are so many places to get good pizza. Unfortunately good pizza has eluded east greenbush for years. Troy-defazios, Albany Blaze, Saratoga Nové there are pies you don't mind driving to in order to experience a great pizza. read more
