I ordered some lunch from here today and enjoyed every bite. My teen boys got the Big Boss and I got the gyro supreme. The boys ate their burgers so fast I wasn't able to get a photo but they said it was delicious. My gyro supreme was packed with so much meat and veggies that I wasn't able to take a bite of the pita yet. I basically have a whole gyro saved for dinner later. From time to time, I crave a good gyro, and while I've been to Oakland Gyros on Locust a few times, this was my first visit to Golden Gyros. They're cash-only, but there's an ATM inside, so come prepared. Ordering is straightforward: walk in, order at the counter, and food is ready in about 10 minutes. We got the gyro dinner plate, which came out hot with a generous portion of meat, tomatoes, and onions. Fries were hot and crispy! We felt like trying something different from our usual Kopps or Oakland Gyro. Found Golden Gyro through reviews and figured we'd give it a shot. It's a little stand-alone spot, cash only (which we knew ahead of time). The staff seemed a bit rushed, but not rude or anything. We ordered the gyro dinner and couldn't pass up the tiramisu frozen custard since it's one of my favorite desserts. Food came out pretty quick, and everything was nice and hot. The gyro and fries were actually really good! The tzatziki wasn't my favorite though -- super thick and kind of plain, more like Greek yogurt with cucumbers bits. The frozen custard was a nice surprise -- firmer than what I'm used to at Kopps but really tasty. I might even change my go-to! I was looking forward to trying golden gyros after reading all of the positive reviews, but was ultimately disappointed. I wanted to like this so bad!! Maybe it was an off night, I don't know. Bring cash, and a lot of it. Our order was over $40 for two gyros and two orders of cheese fries. Big portions though. It was pretty busy but not too bad of a wait. The cheese fries were pretty darn good! The gyro was fine. The meat was a little overcooked and very salty. It didn't look fresh by the time we got home with our food. Maybe I'll try a cheeseburger instead next time. But for now, I'll stick to my usual gyro places (OG's & pak dahman). read more

Ordered two fish sandwiches, Greek fries ,regular fries and onion rings for us.Took awhile as many other orders were ready before my order.I think one of the fish was accidentally dropped so I think they had to fry another. I just moved to the neighborhood, and my wife and I wanted to try out a new place. I ordered over the phone and spoke very clearly that I wanted to order 2 gyros and a side of fries. I was told the total was $16 and that the establishment was cash only, but that an ATM was on site. Strike 1 - When I arrived I went straight to the ATM and withdrew $20, plus the service charge. I went to the counter to get my order, but when he read off the order, there was only 1 gyro in the bag. I told the cashier that I 100% VERY clearly ordered 2. Strike 2 - The cashier didn't apologize. He now also told me the total would be $28! Almost $30 for a couple gyros and some fries. This meant that I had to go back to the ATM and pay another service charge to withdraw more money. Strike 3 - When I went back to the counter I told the employee that this was technically their fault, and that they should be considerate of the fact that I'm now literally paying for their mistake. The cashier essentially dismissed me. No apology, no offer to cover the service charge, no nothing. The kid just said "goodbye sir". I'm not the type of person to give 2 stars just for bad service. When I got home with the food, I couldn't believe how basic these gyros were for $30. Anywhere else for this price you get, olives, feta, maybe peppers... Not here. I know the pic looks like a hot mess but this is the best Chicken Shish Kabob in the Milwaukee area. Super flavorful (might be a tad salty for some), juicy, and generous portions too. The pita wrapped around the meat is soaked full of the spices and juices, which is so tasty. It normally comes with onions and tomatoes as well, but I get it without. I also love their tzatziki sauce because the cucumbers are tiny diced pieces instead of slimy shreds like most places. I don't know why but it makes a huge difference in the texture. Haven't had a gyro from GG for many, many years. This was one of the times I had cash and was in the area so had to get one. It was quite a bit of a wait. Maybe 15 minutes at the drive thru line. I ordered a Supreme Gyro which with tax came to $11.14. Just like I remembered it. Stuffed full of meat, onions and tomatoes. It also comes with 3 tsikiki sauces. I am giving it 4 stars even if the cashier gave me $1 instead of $4 back. She realized it and returned with the right change which I gave her the cash for tip. So, we stopped to pick up dinner last night. We ordered 1 Gyro, 1 Chicken Shishkibob 1 order of fries and one order of onion rings. The total with tax was $36.00. Like I said previously, it's pricey but very good food. Upon checking our receipt, We noticed that we were charged 50 cents for ordering the Gyro with no tomato's??? I've never heard of anything so ridiculous!! They're already charging top dollar but then charge me extra for not taking tomato's? I'm sure these are made to order, so I can't see any reason to justify paying extra to omit the tomato's on a sandwhich? It's not the 50 cents, but the crazy practice. I love gyro meat, so it was a no brainier that I needed to try Golden Gyros once I found out about it. I had some initial hesitation when I saw pictures of their menu and how pricy they are compared to other gyro places, but I figured it's worth trying once at the least. I was pleasantly surprised to see the building had a drive thru, which was convenient given the cold of winter and the limited time during a work day lunch break. Not as convenient is the fact that they only take cash. In an age when it's becoming less common for people to be carrying cash, establishments should give up their unwillingness to pay credit card services fees and get with the times. Thankfully I happened to have cash on me and didn't have to use their indoor ATM with likely a fee involved from my bank and possibly Golden Gyros as well. As noted, the prices are high. A gyro combo (sandwich, fries, and drink), was a little more than $13 before tax. I didn't feel I needed the soda, so initially I ordered just fries for $3.30 and a plain gyro $8.44. Immediately I noticed they had a "supreme" gyro with extra meat for $1.46 more. I changed my order and pulled ahead to pick up my $14 even in food. The bag I was given was HEAVY. Since I was driving I couldn't pull everything out right away and investigate, but the order of fries was huge. Easily enough that two people could have shared it and been satisfied. When I got to work, I opened up the biggest gyro I've ever seen. Literally it weighed just over a pound when I put it on our shipping scale. Clearly you get you're money's worth even if the money is more than most others. As far as taste goes, the fries were fine. There wasn't a lot of flavor, so I ended up using ketchup after a while just to mask the repetitive taste of potato. The gyro meat and pita were cooked well. Pretty standard on the flavor for both of those, even with the size being above standard. I don't know if I'd get the fries again mostly because the gyro supreme is a meal all on its own. Now that I know what to expect, I just need to make sure I go with a very empty stomach first. read more

The owner is so friendly and is almost always there and we love supporting local, family-owned businesses! While the food isn't cheap, it is high quality. The portions are generous (easily 2-3 meals) and it just tastes great! They have a lot of options if you aren't into gyros and ice cream and traditional Greek desserts as well. Honestly the gyros are delicious and I am a frequent flyer. After a decade of eating there I've noticed a disturbing trend from the burger standpoint. 3 weeks ago I got a burger with a pebble/rock in it. At first I thought it was general gristle and after almost cracking a tooth I learned quickly after spitting it out it was an actual pebble/stone/rock. Today I came back and had the same thing, and that seems like a heck of a coincidence as I've been eating there for a decade and never had this problem. I always eat here before the fireworks on July 3rd at US Bank as a tradition! Very bad customer service! Went to redeem some food that was owed to me from a mistake on my previous visit. Some rude guy named Nick came to the window and gave me attitude right away. Instead of looking through their books he wanted me to pay for what was owed to me and redeem it on my next visit once again. And then asked why couldn't have just picked out the stuff I didn't want on my food last visit and just ate the food. Once I explained that's not making sense to me he said well you can wait 10 minutes while I look through the book with and attitude. I had this place bookmarked for a while, and it's not far from where I live. I think the fact that there is no dining area is what delayed my visit. I prefer eating food right after it is cooked, rather than let it cool and let it lose it's mojo on the drive home. The good news is that the food held up well on my 10 minute drive home. The fries stayed crisp, although they could have used seasoning, so I added some. The gyro meat was well-seasoned. I really enjoyed the flavor, and I didn't find it to be greasy at all. The pita bread didn't get soggy and didn't fall apart. There was a large pile of gyro meat, so I picked up the pieces of meat and dipped it in the tzatziki sauce, which was good but not great, until I could pick up the entire gyro, pita and all, and eat it. The tomatoes and onions tasted fresh, so not complaints there. Overall, not a bad option for the occassional gyro craving that I get every few months. read more
