Food came out quickly, and the gyro is definitely the highlight here, although they have plenty of other options to choose from. I had the gyro platter with rice, and it was very good. The portion was generous, and I left feeling full. The Greek salad however was disappointing and lacked everything Greek about it. My only complaint was the white plastic plates and forks. I'd rather not have hot food served on plastic, but otherwise it was a good meal. read more

We finally tried this place. The wife and I have been searching for a new go to Gyros spot since Gyros West closed down. We each got the Gyros combo to go. The flavor was great. The sauce is a little too thin for my liking but good overall. I couldn't finish it since there was enough meat for 2 gyros. My wife on the other hand finished her gyro in record time. We have been passing by this place for years! So glad we stopped in today! Hearty gyro with lots of strong lamb flavor, good blend. Some of the onions were stringy & needed to take them out. I habe been here a few times, and the food is always good. This was the busiest I've seen it, and they have us a heads up that the order would take a little longer than normal. The only downside on this meal was there were lots of crunchy bits of gyro meat (the burnt ends of gyro meat) instead of it being all softish. But you could tell everyone in the restaurant was working hard. They are always friendly. I enjoy coming here. It seems like it was the place to be on this particular Friday night. read more

If you're near the airport and looking for something different, I definitely recommend stopping by this spot. The food was excellent, but the service really enhanced the experience. Omg. After a night of carousing at the Packing House, I'm thinking of roasted meat and deep flavor. I pull into the drive through at Oakland Gyros and within 7 minutes, emerge with a super juicy chicken shish kebab sandwich. I'm reasoning with myself it's 0 points on my Weight Watchers program if I don't eat the juice-soaked pita bread or unctuous tzatziki sauce. Unable to resist digging I. Until I'm home, I bite into a few succulent pieces of roasted chicken and....sigh. So hungry and suddenly satiated. At home I open an overstuffed roasted chicken sandwich on pita bread and open the top of thick pungent tzatziki sauce; I can't resist. I pull apart the pita and dip in the thick spreadable garlicky sauce. This is the real deal. Avoided ordering Packing House $56.00 steak knowing my $10.00 soul-satisfying sandwich was blocks away. I've been going to Oakland Gyros for more than 20 yrs and the food has always been great. This time I got a gyro, my usual but I could tell the meat wasn't as flavorful and it was kinda mushy unlike the meat in the past and the pita was also doughy & chewy. I did not like it at all. We have been dining at Oakland gyros for over 20 years and stop about once every other week or so. Why you ask? Well, portions are huge, quality is great, service is fast and friendly and prices are very reasonable. I travel quite a bit for work and since there is a location near the MKE airport, my routine is to stop here, pull up to the drive through and place our regular order. This order contains the chicken shiskabob with rice, the beef shiskabob with fries and the fried eggplant. Note that I've had almost everything on the menu and have found that the 3 things mentioned are best for feeding my family of 5 (3 teenagers!). I honestly cannot recall a time where we have been left disappointed as they just do things right each and every time. Besides the great service, great food and reasonable prices, I truly appreciate the consistency as I know I am going to get a great meal each & every time. Ordered on my way to watch wrestling at a friends a gyro platter with extra sauce and a diet Pepsi got it to my friends place sink my teeth into it and it was delicious. The employees were friendly although I had to go and park for a couple of moments. It wasn't long before I received my mail so that I could go, but there was a car as I was about to leave that was sitting forever, allowing me not to leave I swear I sat there for at least 10 minutes. The damn car didn't know how to cross the street and turn left. That was annoying, but I always love the fries and the food once I get it this is a nice quick restaurant to get food at. Was looking for a restaurant that served healthy non fast food and I found one of the best restaurants I have eaten at in many years! The flavor was rich There was three times the amount of beef I expected. Onions, tomato, sweet pepper, feta, olive, cucumber sauce, bread! Absolutely delicious. First time at this location. I usually eat at the one on the north side. Maybe the Original has a little more uniqueness because of its location and the building itself, but the food is very much on par at both places. Customer service is top notch for a counter service fast food restaurant. Impressive how fast everybody works behind the counter.... Like a well oiled machine! I stopping during the dinner hour and I have to say the order line was a little long. (Only one person taking orders) It did take a little while to place my order, but once it was in, the food came out pretty quickly and was fresh, hot and tasty. Everyone was friendly from the guy who took my order to the man who handed me my meal when they called my number. I had the Gyro Platter. Plenty of food, and I really like that they are once again handing out ketchup and Tzatziki sauce bottles (instead of packets and cups) once again. The food at Oakland Gyros is the MOST consistent food from any restaurant in this city. I believe I can speak for the city when I say that. I have been there so many different days and it doesn't matter what time or what you order, the staff service is polite. You don't have to wait an hour for your order. The ambiance has been the same since I was a young kid. It's always clean and neat in the joint. Nothing fancy but clean. My favorite dish is the Athenian chicken with salad. I saw this place (with amazing reviews) and decided to give it a try. What I loved was the drive thru (how cool is that?) and how fast everything was ready. The food itself was packed well and the portions were huge (prices are super reasonable). I liked the Greek Salad (there are HUGE chunks of cheese) and my guest liked his gyro. The portions were huge but he wished the gyro meat were slightly more charred. I ordered the chicken kabobs and the portion will feed me for a few days! The chicken was very moist and tasty. Have lived in the area for 15+ years and somehow never went here. Reviews were great and we were craving gyro before going on a long trip where no restaurants would be around. Due to having a fractured ankle I went though the drive thru. I had a few minor questions such as what garnishes came with the plate vs the sandwich. There were no cars behind me at the time. I pulled around and asked the employee how we was doing today. He took my credit card and told me to pull forward where they'll later bring me the food. I said thanks and began to shift my vehicle into drive when I heard the employee say "Hey pendejo" while handing me a plastic number. I looked at him in disbelief and pulled forward. I'm married to a Hispanic woman and I certainly knew he was calling me an idiot and/or a$$hole in Spanish slang. I waited for the food and an assistant manager ran the food out to me. At that time I informed him of the employees insanely rude behavior. He simply told me "I try telling them more people understand what they say than they realize. Thanks for letting me know." And patted me on the shoulder before walking back inside! I took the food home and it was missing nearly all of the garnish I had paid for. We will NEVER go back after that completely unnecessary and disgustingly rude behavior. I'm not looking for free food, but a pat on the shoulder after being called an idiot and a$$hole for no good reason is NOT customer service. This is my first visit back since 2013 or so, and the gyros are just as good as they were then! Coming packed with enough meat to probably make two, you get more than your money's worth. It's also a huge bonus that you get your own tzatziki bottle. It won't be too much or too little, as you dictate the amount until your heart's content.
