I have been a customer there for a long time. I have to say I am very disappointed by the way I've been treated recently. The woman who works at the counter is very rude and has repeatedly tried to overcharge me and keep my change. I have no problem, leaving a tip and I usually leave something extra, but there is a big difference between leaving something for someone and having them take it from you. When I said something to her about it, she laughed at me. I have seen her do the same thing with other customers as I have waited for my food. It is a shame. read more

Refused service to me because I have a service dog. I use a cane and my service dog had a clearly marked service dog medical alert vest on. He was completely behaved. This was my fav place years ago so I thought I would try it an again. BIG MISTAKE. I ordered a poopoo platter and rice with some extras. The rice was so salty I couldn't eat it and I even put duck sauce to try and cover the saltiness. Ya it didn't work. As for the appetizers I don't think they were made fresh today because they were dry and could have been fried a couple of times. Never again will I go there. Waste of over $50 read more

Literally have been calling all day to order and know one picked up the phone.I waited to order while being ignored as they assisted all the Uber,Dash drivers etc.Finally someone came up to me and just looked at me and said that i wanted to place an order.The man looked at me in shock at 7:30pm and said I can't promise you in a hour and walked off. Wow I am amazed with how fast the delivery came. Called at 10:02 and by 10:20 the food was at my house. The sesame chicken was good. Not super typical but not in a bad way- the sauce was lighter color, but still flavorful, and the pieces were huge! Lots of chicken- Not all fried stuff like most sesame chicken. The pork fried rice was perfect. And the egg wall was big and crispy. The lady on the phone was a little rude though and hung up on me but I didn't care much. read more

Absolutely poor customer service with racist overtones. To make matters worst the food was subpar.

I ordered on Uber Eats and got beef with pea pods and crab rangoons. Beef with pea pods was very good. The beef was very tender and the flavor in the sauce was great. Crab rangoons, they were the worst ones I've ever had in my whole life. They were stringy like it had cheese in them, it was grainy and had no crab! I understand stuff happens and maybe they ran out of crab but please inform your customers if you ran out of a key component to a food item because I wouldn't have ordered here if I knew that. read more

Enough with the bashing. I don't get it. This place is great. Give it a chance. I've tried it over 1/2 dozen times in the past two months as a test. Try their salt and pepper items with brown rice and fresh spinach, yu choy, bok choy, etc. Their sauces are HOMEMADE...the duck sauce, hot mustard, and garlic sauce. A really nice touch. First off the staff is rude as f*ck. When I went up to the counter to get my food the guy said "oh wow, this bag is so heavy" in the most condescending tone. Caught me off guard, never had a restaurant make a backhanded comment on my weight. So rude. None of the staff were wearing masks either, which in Boston is mandated at the moment. The food was absolutely disgusting. We got pad thai, crab rangoons, pork fried rice, and general tsos chicken. The pad thai had about four tiny pieces of chicken total, and did not have any flavor whatsoever. The crab rangoons tasted old and soggy, did not have any crab. The pork fried rice had no flavor, way too many onions, and was cold. The general tsos chicken was very heavy on the breading and frying oil, which is all i could taste. 10/10 would not recommend, and will never be going back again. read more

Lived near Imperial Kitchen nearly my entire life, 4 recent visits reminded me why I go out of my way to buy take-out elsewhere. Ginger and Scallion Lo Mein was super dry, scallioN description is darn exact, was ONE scallion cut into 4 pieces for the dish & there was no balance of it with the ginger. Salt & Pepper wings would've been better had they not just added jalapeños & onion into container before pick up, there's no taste of these ingredients on the wings, in other words plain wings would be better to spare extra cost. Spring rolls are literally tasteless, it's like my Gma put some cabbage & carrot into a wonton, wrapped & fried it and thought it was worth eating - they're SO not! Szechuan Spicy String Beans were soggy, any place else we've had this dish there's a firmness that makes you want to inhale more and more. I found myself searching through our size large order for ones with a crunch, there was maybe 3 total - TOTAL disappointment. I always respect my Elders so this is harder for me to write as we're shifting from food description to sharing encounters with a human being. I must be honest about lack of good Customer Srvs., customer who arrives in person to order comes BEFORE phone call that came after you began to engage with me. It was "what would you like to order?" Me attempting to reply then "hold on-hold on", takes the call that was SO long I had to hear him say 10 times (no exaggeration) "you want 2 small white rice?" Staff appear overwhelmed with multi-tasking and I don't know if it's the same older gentleman each time I went or one who is different but just as stressed out? When young guy is there it's much better, he takes person at counter while older employee takes calls. But younger kid was only there 1 of my recent 4 trips. The food has always been delicious every time I've ordered. I usually order the shrimp or house fried rice, sautéed string beans that has a nice kick to it, spicy salted chicken wings. I've never had a problem w my order and everything is made to order and in a timely fashion. ** Only thing i wouldn't suggest ordering are the crab Rangoons. Honestly surprised by the negative reviews. My family has been ordering Imperial for longer than I can remember and it never disappoints Definitely our preffered asian food spot. We were so sad to hear that they (weren't) open during the pandemic (when we called at least) but glad that they are staying safe. My family has never had any issues with ordering or pick up, its always been a simple, pleasant process. Definitely my favorite crab rangoon, but there have been times where the quality varies. Another year has passed and I still haven't returned to this Imperial Disappointment. This restaurude is the only one for miles around that has a rating of just TWO STARS **. Shocking right? I'm sure it has nothing to do with the wok filled with chicken wings that stays on a milk crate next to the fryolator all day/night long? Just peek into the window that looks at the kitchen and you'll see what I mean. (Board of Health are you reading this?) In the interest of full disclosure there is one other Chinese restaurant that "earned just TWO STARS** and it's just 1.5 miles from Imperial Disappointment in Jamaica Plain across from Forest Hills Station. It's called Oriental House and the food the 2 x's that I got it there was actually very good, however the treatment that you receive at the hands of the woman behind the counter is right on par with that of any detainee being held at Guantanamo Bay Cuba. I read a research article from Harvard Business School entitled Reviews, Reputation, and Revenue: The Case of Yelp.com that found that every increase of ONE STAR* on Yelp leads to a 5-9% increase in revenue. With that being the case we may have one less Chinese restaurant in Roslindale when I do my annual update in 2018. Fingers crossed. read more

Not sure why this place has so many bad reviews. I have been a customer of this establishment for over 10 years and have never had a bad meal or interaction with their staff. I almost always get the shrimp fried rice with some type of chicken such as general gao or sesame with crab rangoons. This is the only place I know that puts cleaned jumbo shrimp in the fried rice and the only place that puts big pieces of actual chicken breast in the general gao or sesame chicken. 99% of Chinese food places use tiny dirty shrimps in the fried rice and mystery meat covered in breading for the general gao. I also have had there beef chow foon and seafood lo mein which are both very tasty and fresh. The owner and his brother care about quality and customer service. If you're looking for gourmet Chinese restaurants go to Chinatown and pay 50$ for parking and watch the rats run around on the sidewalks! read more

Never again. Ever. The worst counter service I've ever experienced in this country. And that's saying a lot. Not to mention that the food is mediocre, at best. I'd eaten here before, and although the food is uninspired and a bit heavy on grease, the portions were good and the prices fair. However... I went in last night to order something off the "specials" menu, something with vegetables. After waiting a good five minutes for anyone to take my order, the older man at the counter paused between answering the phone and bagging orders long enough to mutter "be with you in a minute." Having been so completely ignored, I was on the verge of leaving, but I figured I'd already waited that long and he seemed to finally be on the case, so why not just stick around? Another few minutes. Finally he came by just long enough for me to ask if the General Gau's came with vegetables. In an almost inaudible voice, he said, "A little brocolli and...." I didn't hear everything he said and asked him to repeat himself, but by then he had moved away to answer another phone call, bag another order, completely ignoring me. Another five minutes. The complete and utter lack of service was surreal. I was beginning to wonder if I was on Candid Camera. Finally, with no distractions left, he came back over to me and said, curtly, "Yes?" I asked him, again, "What comes with the General Gau's?" "I told you already! You ask the same question over and over! I already said! What's wrong with you!" "I'm sorry," I replied, "I didn't fully hear you. You were speaking very softly..." "You ask the same question!" He moved away again. I placed the menu back in the holder and walked out. The name of this place should be "Imperious Kitchen." I've never experienced such gratuitous rudeness, such incivility, such aggressively bad service. Maybe the guy was having a bad day. Not my problem. This kind of service is dehumanizing, degrading, and simply inexcusable. I will never go back, and am telling all my friends about this surreal experience. Horrid experience. My boxers farts smell better than half the stuff coming out of this kitchen, and he just farted so that says a lot. I got off the bus on a dark, cold night... it was almost one in the morning. I knew there would be no food at home, and nothing was open. I dreaded a night tossing and turning on an empty stomach. Alas! What's that in the distance? The glowing sign of Imperial Kitchen, the only late night take-out available near my apartment. As I entered, I was immediately suspect: the scene was dingy, steamy, and stinky. Was I in a chinese take-out place, or China? The kitchen is visible to consumers at the counter, and boy does Imperial Kitchen need to do something about that. The cooking tools were grimy, greasy and old. Canisters of old sauces and meats were overfilling a dented trash barrel. The cooks were straight dirty looking. As I skeptically opened my dish, a basic General Tsao with rice and broccoli, I was overcome with the stench of rotten vegetables steamed in dog food. The sight, the smell, and the taste was so abhorrent, I was forced to throw the food directly in the trash and go to bed hungry, as I was physically incapable of keeping it down. My boyfriend and I have been craving Chinese food since we moved here last weekend. Unfortunately we tried this place. We ordered 509 which is an appetizer combo that includes Peking Ravioli, Crab Rangoon, Beef Teriaki, Fried Chicken Wings and then we orderd the General Gau's. The Beef was PORK, the Peking Ravioli were cold and the filling was greasy and tasted like STOVE TOP, the chicken wings were somehow BOTH over cooked and crunchy but saturated with grease on the inside and the General Gau's came in a sauce that was like GELATIN. That's not the worst part of it either. The chicken was over cooked and tasted gamey and old. Furthermore the rice was mealey, cold and tasted disgusting. Needless to say the 22 bucks I spent on dinner mostly went straight down the crapper, as I ended up throwing out 3/4's of the food. I wouldn't have eaten this garbage if I was drunk and hurting for grease. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS and let's hope the go out of business for failing to know how to cook the most basic Chinese food. read more

I always measure my take out Chinese by the General Tso's Chicken, or General Gau's as you Bostonians call it. For starters the white rice which came with it tasted at least two days old. It was u set cooked, dry and mealy. The chicken was cooked far too long and it was chewy. Almost impossible to chew. We ended up throwing more than half of it away. We also ordered an appetizer combo. It came with Peking Ravioli, teriyaki Beef, Crab Rangoon and Chicken Wings. The chicken wings were fantastic! Crisp and tender. The crab Rangoon was just cheese wrapped in a wonton wrapper. Why can't I find a good crab Rangoon?? The beef was pork and the dumplings tasted like thanksgiving stuffing. If I were rating this greasy spoon Chinese take-out place in comparison to all of the dining experiences I've had in my life, I'd probably give it two stars. However, compared to other greasy spoon Chinese take-out places . . . it's a solid three. I bought a Groupon for this place on a whim and after reading the Yelp reviews I was a bit frightened to redeem it, but figured I'd have to make the plunge eventually. For two people we ordered the Honey Chicken, Sweet & Sour Shrimp, Scallion Pancake, and yes, the infamous mozzarella Crab Rangoon (I had to use up the Groupon and I wanted to find out just how bad it was). For the most part, everything was fine -- standard Chinese takeout. The chicken was actually nicely barbecued with a bit of caramelized crunch and the fried foods were all crisp and not too oily. The sweet and sour sauce was maybe a bit too sweet, and yes, the Crab Rangoon were filled with mozzarella cheese . . . it was unusual and not something I'd ever crave, but it wasn't particularly bad. In all fairness, it probably means that they make their own Crab Rangoon in-house instead of dropping some frozen dumplings in the fryer. Aside from the food, the guy who took our order was incredibly nice. He seemed genuinely concerned about whether we liked the food (maybe he's been reading these reviews?) and he helped us wrap up our copious leftovers. If I were craving standard Chinese takeout in Roslindale, I'd definitely try this place again but avoid the bizarre Crab Rangoon. read more

First off the pork fried rice looked and tasted drier than leftover food left in the sun and microwaved 4 times over. Then the chicken teriyaki, which was a weird RED color (instead of a golden brown which I've been accustomed to) tasted like...I don't know. And not to mention it did...things to my digestive system (I won't go into detail but it was VERY bad). Peking Raviolis were soupy and bland, crab rangoons dry and tasted like garbage!
