Spice is life. Great intimate dining. You can choose your spice level. The flavors seem to do a little dance on your taste buds. There's great options available for many preferences. The vegetable samosas (not pictured) are lovely. The chutney has a nice sweet tangy flavor, while the green cilantro chutney is very spicy. It's conveniently located near many other restaurants and some shopping in Overton Square.

I've eaten here twice and am about to order after I finish this review. The food is good. The food is an experience. It's a home cooked meal. The medium spice Merg Makhani! Baby! It's fulfilling, tasty. Everything I could ask for from an Indian meal. The service is great. The staff is very kind and sweet. The atmosphere is relaxing and elegant. I highly recommend dining here if you're looking for a great meal!

The food was not bad, but I learned my buffet skills are a little weak. Jason's Deli's salad bar is the range of my buffet knowledge. LOL If you're new to this restaurant, and you do the buffet, there are several rules/things to keep in mind. The plates are located next to the buffet so you don't have to wait for them to be brought to your table. You get nan (flat bread) with your buffet meal. If you walk away from the buffet, don't go back to add salad dressing with your actual food plate. Be sure to get another container for food safety reasons. Even if you only have one plate of food, you cannot take your leftovers home without paying a fee based on the weight of your food. You do not pay at your table. You pay at the hostess desk at the front entrance. The price was reasonable, but I couldn't take my leftovers without the fee, so I kind of feel like I paid full price for half of a meal.

I feel like this place embodies the essence of my inner peace somehow. It was born as a overflow bar for Iris from the lore I hear. To me, as I see it, this place became Chef Kelly's escape to reality as far as food, atmosphere, and service are concerned. I think this place presents his personality in his relaxed more chill version. If you have ever been to Iris, specifically, when it was next door, you would understand what I mean. When it was the tiny place it had some kind of pretentiousness to it that just turned me off. I only ate there once. It would take weeks to get a reservation before he moved it and the constant limelight had to be a lot of pressure. This place though.... I could come here three times a week no issue. In fact, I actually wish that I could eat here three days a week. Second Line is moving soon. They are going back to being next door to Iris in the newer Laurelwood location. In some ways I wonder if Chef needs that jovial comfort of a place next to Iris to keep him grounded. I do hope the charm of this is somehow transferred, but looking out the windows into Cooper the last time I was here Dec '25, just will not be a possibility in that shopping center it's headed to. That will be lost. He's a great guy! Hell of a Chef! World class employer! Tremendous philanthropist! A leader in the City of Memphis! Please go support him in the new location. Now.... All that BS and I ain't said shit about the food and why I like this place so much. If you scroll through my photos you will see almost every dish that has ever been on the menu here. Some are fantastic! All are very good! I have had nothing but great food here for many years! I have only had one bad meal here. Catfish Picante and it is long gone it seems! I wrote a long ass draft I never published (thank god), after that visit. I do believe it was my first time here and I almost didn't return. What a waste that would have been. My favorites now are Sweet Heat Oysters, Chicken Livers with pepper jelly, that lobster knuckle sandwich from waaaay back, spinach Madeline, and of course... the Red Beans and Rice. The desserts are always killer as well. I guess I'll catch you at the new place soon! Love you guys!! '25 - Finale

It was hands-down the biggest food success we've ever had! Owner, Kristie Jeffrey was a dream to work with: responsive, kind, knowledgeable and genuinely invested in helping us. The food exceeded every expectation. We intentionally ordered appetizers from IV for the entire party, (not just the vegans), with small signs that read: "For Everyone: It's Delicious AND Vegan." Even so, guests couldn't believe what they were eating. Meat-eaters and long time vegans kept double-checking with me that the food was truly vegan, and I (happily) spent the night sharing where it came from! Highlights: Dogs N' Blankets were FLAKY! To be clear: that's PASTRY with no butter and still perfect hours later* The potato skins with "bacon" "cheddar" and "sour cream" converted my dairy-loving, bacon and sausage-loving, picky husband, and he ignored the omnivore meals we selected from another caterer. Spinach dip, rice and vegetables were all deeply flavorful and comforting. The lasagna! For decades I've reproduced a vegetarian lasagna I learned from a friend who's a private chef in London, and after tasting IM's, I'm officially retired. The vegetables were rich, savory, and beautifully balanced, with a flavorful sauce that comes from the spices and vegetables themselves. *For anyone considering Imagine Vegan for catering, a small but helpful tip: when you bring home items that lose texture with steam (like pastries or potato skins) take them out of the foil containers immediately. Before guests arrived, we kept the skins and DN'Bs in our warmer (vents open-no moisture - or you can low-heat warm in the oven with the door slightly open) then later popped them on to platters that had been sitting on silicone warming mats. Dishes like lasagna, rice, vegetables, and dips hold beautifully in chafing dishes with steam. Everything we served looked and tasted as though it had just come out of Imagine Vegan's kitchen! Guests have complemented us on the food at our previous parties, but NEVER like this. They were shocked to be enjoying animal-product-free food THIS much, and excited to know that we have truly delicious, TRULY healthier Southern food options right here in Memphis. As a vegetarian, the comments made my day. PUT YOUR FAITH in Kristie and her team. They're all lovely and very professional. Kristie is particularly warm, thoughtful, and provides food that will genuinely impress.

You know when you try a dish at a restaurant and from that point on, you judge every version of it against the best one you've ever had? Their spicy crispy tofu did exactly that. What's disheartening is that it's in Memphis, Tennessee and I live in Illinois. How am I supposed to convince my boyfriend to drive 16 hours round trip just for tofu?! Everything else was extremely well executed. Even the jasmine tea was excellent. We actually ended up leaving the city late the next day just so we could go back for lunch. It's that good. If your spice tolerance is low, definitely let them know this dish is spicy, as it should be! One recommendation: if you order the wood ear salad, get the cucumber salad as well and eat them together to balance your palate it's a total game changer. If nothing else, the spicy crispy tofu is an absolute must!!!

I am sure the staff had their hands full. Our server Daniel (name on ticket) was a complicated hot mess. He started out saying that we should have gone to Lao S.C., that it was better food? Never saw that coming. He said he used to work there too - which I wondered why he quit such a new establishment after such a short run? Then it hit me: I began by saying that we generally get the same things (mapo tofu or the cumin lamb - excellent choices), and I wanted to try something different? I was interested in the spicy whole grilled fish in pot! He told me that I wanted the fried chicken sautéed in peppers... his favorite. I said no, I really wanted to try the whole fish. He continues insisting I wanted the chicken dish? 3 more times... and I began suspecting maybe something was amiss, perhaps freshness issue with the fish - I relented and went with the chicken which ultimately was disappointing. Hard cooked chicken scraps edging on burnt tossed not in a sauce but in handfuls of dried peppers. Dry-fried. Very uneventful, hard and dull. Wife went with the shrimp in milk sauce which was extraordinarily delicious. Plump and savory jumbo shrimp in a creamy almost walnut sauce. We ordered a pear Sake from Oregon (which he told us was from Japan), and the spicy dumplings as an appetizer. The dumplings were tender and homemade which we liked but were not overwhelmed with. The Sake was light with a hint of asian pear went well with dinner. Still wishing I was more demanding on the whole fish (or) took his former recommendation and went to the other place?

Let me start by saying this: I truly enjoy this restaurant. The atmosphere is unique, the concept is fun, and historically the food and service have been reliable. That's exactly why this experience stood out so much. For a party of our size, we would have preferred seating toward the back of the restaurant where it was noticeably warmer and more comfortable. Instead, we were seated in an area that felt a bit chilly, which set the tone for the evening. The bigger issue, however, was with the food and service execution. Four dishes out of our party of twelve were essentially untouched. Two scallop entrées and the Steak Frites were overcooked, tough, and unfortunately inedible. The special ribeye of the night--the most expensive entrée--was also not finished. What concerned me most was that no one from the service team paused to read the table or ask why multiple plates remained full. Only one dish was removed, and there was no follow-up conversation about the others. We spent over $800 that evening, including drinks, appetizers, sides, and desserts, so expectations for attentiveness and quality were understandably higher. When a table leaves several entrées uneaten, that's usually a signal worth acknowledging. After the visit, on January 9, 2025, I took the time to provide feedback privately through OpenTable in the hope that management would review it and respond. Unfortunately, I never received any acknowledgment. Even a brief reply would have gone a long way. Silence, in this case, was disappointing and felt like a missed opportunity to demonstrate care and accountability. I'm sharing this feedback because I believe in the restaurant and want to see it succeed. I work in a customer-facing industry myself, and I know firsthand how small service touches--checking in, asking questions, and following up--can make the difference between a good experience and one that keeps guests coming back. I genuinely hope this was just an off night. I would still consider returning, but I do hope the level of attentiveness and follow-through improves.

After eating this dish I questioned if I even like creole sauce because it really just wasn't that good. If this is a preference issue, I honestly don't know. I also thought the charcuterie appetizer had a weird mix of items on it from club crackers, to meat and cheese, and random veggies. Not bad but just kind of a weird mix. My husband ordered the salmon and he said it was good, not the best he's had but it was good. Other friends of ours got the white fish among the many other dishes. I did have a salad with these apples on it which was incredibly yummy. I will say though my dish looked amazing some of the other dishes were not plated well. Not to nitpick but to want to be considered a more upscale restaurant which means charging guest more money than say a local Applebee's then knowing how to appropriately garnish or drizzle sauce to elevate at plate is important (see my picture of the chicken dish).
