I was influenced by a TikTok and it didn't really live up to that. It wasn't bad and it was amazing. It was decent. I was slightly disappointed by the limited options compared to other traditional dim sum spots in town. They also didn't even present me a menu to order other items à la carte.

Food was great! They serve dim-sum all day which is a plus. It is a bit pricey, but what's not these days. Service was awesome. Place is clean, huge and looks like a great place to large parties.

I usually come here for dim sum with my family and recently came back for dinner to celebrate my uncle's birthday. We had a great experience from start to finish. Our server, Maggie, was friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. We ordered the fresh lobster noodles, and Maggie brought out the lobster for us to choose, making the meal feel extra special. The lobster noodles were fresh and flavorful, and the roast pork belly was crispy outside and juicy inside. For dessert, we had the Gui Hua cake, which is always my must-order dessert every time we come here. It was so fresh and delicious, the perfect ending to our meal. Overall, great food, great service, and a wonderful spot for both casual dim sum and family celebrations. We'll definitely be back!

Came here to celebrate a friend's bday. This place is huge and even has an area dedicated for live music at certain nights. We ordered a variety of dim sum, though they all came out warm, but the tastes were just average. Service, however, was good.

We normally come here for their all day dim sum menu but decided on their dinner menu for lunch. It came out to be a very expensive and deceiving meal. Their portions are huge and price caters to banquet size of a table of 10. The fish maw soup ($27.99) was delicious and had actual crab meat and seafood, herbal, sponge items. The salted fish fried rice was not overly salted. Had plenty of fish and chicken ($24.99). Our third and final item was the steam whole fish ($58.88). The menu was deceiving when it listed items under live seafood with market value price when in reality, they do not carry live seafood. Their tank was empty. The server told us it's frozen fish shipped from Vietnam! Why am I paying $60 for a dead frozen fish! Even the receipt was rang up as daily catch market price. The fish was good and we would have never guessed that it was frozen. They need to be transparent and list the previously frozen price just like crab boil places that use frozen crawfish during off season. We felt blinded sided and cheated. A cup of tea is charged at $2.88 per person so decline if you don't drink tea. 4/5 for food taste but 1/5 for charging market price on a frozen item and marketing as live seafood.

Came for the unlimited AYCE! Visited during the week and it was not busy at all. Make sure that they post a QR code at your table because that is how they can tell you are AYCE vs à la carte. The ordering is a little completed, the QR code does provide an ordering link, but we never used it. They had 2-3 ladies going around with carts who said that as long as you ordered from them it was included. There were times when they didn't have what we wanted so they placed the order for us. That might have been because it was not a busy day. For us, the AYCE was definitely worth it. We ordered are favorite dishes multiple times without any issues. Service was great, they were very nice and attentive. It was a little off in the beginning because we weren't given the QR code at first but it was fixed quickly. Definitely try out AYCE before it ends if you are a dim sum lover! Spacious setting, they were setting up a section for a banquet or celebration.

I enjoyed my first visit here. All dim sum was at the right temperature and very tasty. Service was pretty good though the cart waitresses often skipped my table, which was annoying. Nice ambiance. My only complaint is that there are no prices listed on the menu! Two dim sum I got were marked as large and I wondered if this was correct. Had no way of knowing which were small medium or large nor the prices until I got the bill. It was expensive. I wish they were transparent with charges.

Came to Golden Island for an event. We were a big group. The food was delicious. To my surprise they also had dim sum. I ordered some red wine with my dinner. The staff was very friendly and super helpful. My friends and I had a great time.

I went on a Friday night where there was a live band (The Mad Hat Hucksters) playing and I really enjoyed the food and ambience! The dim sum was really fresh, hot and flavorful. Outside of dim sum, we ordered the salt and pepper fish, which was hot and flavorful, but the texture did not really resemble fish. The spicy wontons were hard to pick up because the skins and meat kept falling apart. Parking is easy because it's in a large shopping plaza.

Do they have private for group?

No. 1 huge open space for all the tables

Just to be clear, this place also serves their dim sum items at dinner?

yes! They still have carts going around during dinner time

Is dim sum served all day?

Yes

Is this place related to Jasmine on Convoy? I saw a manager from the latter working here.

Are there vegetarian dim sum?

Yes, plenty.

How about the prices? $, $$, or $$$?

It depends on how you define $, $$ and $$$ as the dim sum dishes are based on categories: A (small) - $3.25, B (medium) - $4.25, C (large) - $5.05. This is on the $ to $$ end for San Diego compared to places like Jasmine, Emerald, and Pearl. If you…

Is this a buffet? If not do they have a to go menu?

No...it's a push cart dimsum and ala carte style like Jasmines

I would be truly interested in knowing if Fung Fung Yuen hand makes their dim sum daily with fresh ingredients, or are they previously frozen and/or imported from overseas?

I think it would be safe to assume they are frozen. If they are handmade, I think they would open up the kitchen with wide windows for you to see. Hand made is a very strong point to a customer.

When is the soft opening/grand opening?

August 8th is their soft opening. Expect a bit of a wait.

Is this place open yet?

According to Eater San Diego, the grand opening is tomorrow (Aug. 8)!

I was skeptical to try this place since I was not a fan of the food from its predecessor, Fung Fung Yuen.

The dimsum consistently comes out hotter too. We came today and had a bit of a sour experience. My MIL thought that the dishes were miscounted on our stamp sheet, and somehow the cart ladies and the manager(?) got involved. Everyone started counting dishes for a heated 5-10 mins. My MIL insisted the # of dishes were incorrect and the ladies kept counting out loud (and it got louder) but I feel like everyone kept on counting different numbers. Haha, it was kinda awkward and silly. One of the cart ladies seemed frustrated, briefly walked away and then came back and started using a random pair of chopsticks on the table to bang against each dish to count it aloud. Thought that was very classless no matter who was in the wrong. Just bad hygiene and rude. Ultimately, not sure who counted wrong or if my MIL made a mistake. Also, the cart lady avoided us on purpose after the altercation. She eventually came back later with her cart and I very specifically asked her for egg custard bun. She gave us the running salty egg yolk one..when I told her this she exploded at us. Very rude. She was already on the defense without us even saying much. The manager tried her best to deescalate everything so I could appreciate that. Another random thing that I caught was a male manager was refilling our pot of tea and he didn't even announce himself and hurriedly brought the super hot pot of tea between two people that were sitting closer to each other than the slot next to them between another pair on our table...I just thought that was so thoughtless and inconsiderate. My experience all other times have been good, so I'll chalk this down to the stress of the July 4th weekend breaking people down inside & projecting it on customers lol

I guess it's a good thing that food is made fresh but if you're on a time crunch, don't dine here. Service was non existent. Make sure they print out a slip as proof so you know your order was placed. As far as price, it ranges from $6.68 to $11.88. Average was $9.68 like the siu mai. That's $2.50 each! The decor is honestly one of the highlights, it's got this cool, atmospheric mashup of Hong Kong street food vibes and an old-school Shanghai saloon. The bar area was super lively, full of people grabbing drinks and Chinese food, which gave the whole place a great energy. As for the food, we mostly came for the Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings), but they were unfortunately a bit of a letdown. The meat filling wasn't very flavorful and the texture felt pretty rubbery. On the bright side, the Fried Rice was solid and hit the spot. We also tried the Kung Pao Chicken, but it felt more like the "old-school Chinatown" style I remember as a kid as it's very heavy on the sweet fried bean paste and a bit too sugary for my taste, rather than being authentic Chinese. The service was impressively swift; even with the crowd, our dishes came out fast. However, parking was a total headache, and honestly, the total cost felt a bit steep just for a casual meal. Great for the vibe and a quick drink, but the dumplings might not be the main event here.
