    Brown Stew Chicken

Overall terrible quality food. Even the pineapple ginger was weak. I got the brown stew chicken with rice and peas and cabbage. The cabbage was undercooked, rice and peas were bland, and the chicken was as tough as my own fist. Would not recommend.

WOW!!! When I tell you this food is the closest thing to JAMAICA, I'm not playing. The food, the service, and the music were sooooo good. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM!!!

Food good. Pretty pricey for a fast food though. But other than the rice the rest of the food was pretty good. Got the ox tail box of rice. The meat was good. Rice ok. Vegetables still pretty hard and I would prefer cooked a bit more. Plantains were perfect though

It's always an extremely long wait for plant based items. Last time i came in they told me to call in my order before I come pick it up . So today i try to call in my order just for them to tell me they don't accept phone in orders. Today this is the patty they gave me . It's a crumbled mess and every single patty i bought has paper stuck to it . Steer clear of this place . Awful quality . I certainly won't be back and URGE you to look else where

This picture from a iPhone make this plate look good... It lacked in any type of favor... this whole plate tasted as if this food been on the steam table all day. The drink was the best part! I went around lunch and it wasn't really any traffic.

I will start by saying that I have been a big fan of Golden crust since I lived in New York. Now that I live in Dallas I will always stop if I see one.... I walked up and saw that they are now offering a plant-based Jamaican patty option. Trust me I was quite curious. Specially because I don't eat meat anymore. When I went inside there was a line, and the staff was busy so not much smiling and greeting. Which is fine. People are busy working I get it. I order the curry vegetable , fried plantains and plant-based patties and mild beef patties. I didn't want them out the flavor but they did not have the spicy beef available so I settle for my beef. They also have several things that they were out of but I can't remember what. With that said the plant-based Jamaican patty was disgusting. It's made out of beyond meat which I've had before but it does not work in the Jamaican patty!!! Look-somethings just aren't meant to be vegan!! lol And this is one of them. I could not get myself to take a bite because I couldn't bypass the smell of the beyond meat. I attempted to take a bite out of the mild beef one but it was dry and hard just like the vegan patty and the flavor just wasn't right. Now- the Fried Plaintains and the curry vegetable was extremely delicious. The 2 stars is for the inedible patties. I will not recommend them to anyone from this location.

Im from New Orleans so have cajun taste buds. This place is bomb as fuck. Bold flavors without being overwhelming.

So we made the drive here on a Saturday in the Texas heat to check it out. Pulling up here, it's got the island themes with the Jamaican flags, island memorabilia, and afro-beats music blaring from the inside; felt like we were visiting one of the Caribbean restaurants on the islands. We placed an order for the jerk chicken eggrolls, the jamaican beef pattie, a jerk chicken platter w/ rice & peas & curry veggies, and a brown-stewed chicken with steamed cabbage and mac & cheese. About 9-10 minutes later, they called us for our food and we dug in. Everything was absolutely bursting with flavors and island spices. The jerk chicken eggrolls, both entrees, and the cabbage & curried veggies sides are definite must-orders. The chicken in all of those dishes are super tender and melt in your mouth with the spices and sauce. The Jamaican pattie is pretty good although it's the same that I've had at other spots. The rice & peas is a pretty big portion and you can taste the thyme and other spices in it. I didn't care for the mac & cheese but my fiance loved it; wasn't blown away by it. All the seating is outdoors with minimal indoor high seats so it may be best to get it to go. The beverages are island drinks such as the ocean wata (blueberry lemonade) and the Ting (grapefruit soda) which are popular island staples at the convenience stores. They pair great with whatever eats you're ordering. Other food items here that I need to try is the red snapper, the oxtail cheesesteak, and the curry goat. We'll definitely be back to try those! They also do catering as well so that may be another option we'll consider!

Everything was so delicious, moist, flavorful and soft. The rice was just a little bland, but it was great in texture and made a nice filling carb for the meat n starch. The chicken was so tender, juicy, savory, bitter, spicy and a little sweet all in one. The flesh was juicy and the skin had some chew to it. It was coated in spices and some glaze. Very consistent and thankfully all dark meat pieces. The collard greens were refreshing, earthy and had a unique, buttery aroma to them. They weren't bitter like some recipes in other places. I love collard greens both exactly like this one and more on the bitter side too. The plantains were thick, creamy in feel and nicely sweet like a little dessert. Love plantains in all forms like I do greens. The service was very welcoming, friendly, helpful and efficient. I plan to also try the curry chicken and oxtails on future visits. I asked for a chicken roti, they were out, and out of any roti for that matter. My husband wanted curry goat, they were out of goat. I ended up getting a beef patty and jerk wings which were too tough, I could hardly chew them. I also ordered some Collard greens which were just okay. I overheard a phone order that they were processing where the person asked for red snapper fish, they were out of that. The only fish they had available was salmon. But if you take a look at their extensive menu you would see they offer many different types of fish. And lastly, we arrived at the rice and peas (which my husband calls them being stingy on the serving size). The amount of rice given is the smallest serving size of rice and peas I've ever seen served in a Caribbean restaurant. It's not nearly enough to go alongside the rest of the food. Be prepared if you order to go, you'll probably need to order a side of rice in addition to what they give you. The service is good, it's always good, they are friendly and helpful, but it doesn't make up for what they lack in food.

Of course I was happy to indulge her request as it gave me an opportunity to try some handheld eats. First the beef pattie, pretty big and so savory with the meat melting in your mouth and the dough having a nice texture and crust. And then the saheena; OMG! It was my first time having this lovely pastry which is made of chickpeas, spinach, and caribbean spices. You'll be hooked on this after one bite. Texture was similar to a savory piece of cornbread. Of course I was very happy with this item. The girlfriend ordered a currant roll which had some sweetness to it with a flaky crust. I enjoyed it but not as much as I was scarfing down my beef pattie and saheena. They also serve traditional caribbean eats including jerk chicken, oxtails, bake & saltfish, and roti wraps. We noticed a lot of people place to go orders here and call ahead for pick up. There were several bags of eats waiting as we witnessed people roll in and pick them up while having small talk with the owners. All those items looked delicious and we plan to come back and try those out. We also talked to the owners for a bit, they're a husband/wife team who've owned/operated this place for a while. Super polite and gracious, they helped me navigate the menu and explained what the items would be like when I ordered. Sadly I could not get the Aloo Pie (sold out) but they assured me it's worth having and to come back and try it (which we will). Pearland is lucky to have this place here. A 3.5 would have been more accurate quite honestly but alas, yelp has its system. I ordered the bake and fried fish and the doubles. I asked for spicy on the doubles but they didn't taste too spicy - instead I used the sauce included on my bake n fish (possibly had some scotch bonnet peppers) and it was excellent. The bake and fish came as tacos - I don't think I realized that. It was good, but only two small tacos. The french fries were unfortunately burnt and therefore dry and inedible.
