I was feeling under the weather so I stopped in to get a bowl of soup. I went in looking for chicken soup but they said the soup of the day was red pea. For starters, the service was horrific. The employees were standing around talking to each other and serving the customers with attitude. Now on to the soup .. as a Jamaican that has been drinking red peas soup all my life I've never seen it have a cream color, then it had corn starch in it. Reliable, delicious Jamaican food! Ox tails - they give generous portions and the flavor is amazing. They are not stingy when you go into order. But every time I've ordered through DoorDash, there's no plantains included. There's no extra gravy even when I type it in the special instructions. For this place if you want the best experience just go in. It's worth it and they're a chain and they have several locations in the area. Service is always great. I love the vibe in there just don't go during lunch because it's always packed. Also, The ambience is chill. They're always playing good music. The place is clean and when you walk in, it's like the face style behind the glass so you go to the far end of the counter and everything you want right there if it's something that they sell all the time like jerk, chicken, curry, chicken, oxtails, and they just serve it up right there in front of you. I love that! The red velvet cake is fantastic and the juices let me tell you my favorite is the ginger beer hands-down it's so spicy and strong very good! My daughter had the passionfruit watermelon lemon today and she was very pleased with it although it was a bit sweet for my taste that is not a complaint. Just a preference. The food was good. My biggest complaint is the amount of fat on the jerk pork. More than half of the serving was fat. I don't mind a little, and I do expect some, but not more than half the portion! I even asked the young girl (very polite girl) who'd fixed our plates, and she said she'd ask, but never came back or anything. So disappointed, as the Golden Crust location on Summit serves mostly meat with very little fat. Also, the drinks from the fridge were hot, but that could very well be because they had just stocked them, or the refrigerator doesn't work properly. He really enjoys the veggie patty for multiple reasons. 1. The veggies that's inside of the patty itself is seasoned. He mentioned it has some cabbage, corn etc. 2. The flaky crust encased a savory mix of spices, delivering a satisfying and flavorful bite. It's a must try. Their oxtail meal was OK; the flavor was good but the meat wasn't as tender today. However, I did get it served with a lot of gravy and traditional sides like rice and peas with plantains and cabbage. Golden Krust is chain restaurant, so you can expect the same food in different places locations. However, I've noticed that even with chain restaurants the food quality can vary. The staff at this location are very courteous and try to help you out rapidly. They have ample seating if you want to dine in but nothing to fancy in term of decoration. I've been going here occasionally since the location opened and my least favorite thing is the rude staff. It's like they're purposely hiring the rudest people possible. I've seen many different ladies behind the counter over the years and they almost all have the same attitude. Maybe its because I'm not Jamaican or Jamaican looking. After the rude lady mumbling incoherently and trying to argue with me because I said curry chicken lunch and not "curry chicken lunch SPECIAL" like there's a difference, I've had enough. She pretended to not know what I was asking for, kept arguing and mumbling, and tried to serve me something different so I said "you're too rude, I'm leaving" and walked out. Obviously I won't be back and I won't miss it. The food is not good, it's just cheap, fast and close to work for me. And what's up with the 1 slice of plantain? In the past I've had the lady serving me work so hard to separate 2 stuck together pieces instead of just giving me the 2 small slices of bland, flavorless plantains. At latin restaraunts they practically give plantains away but I guess Jamaicans consider them a rare delicacy. I ordered a catering tray of cocktail sized beef and chicken patties. They were hot, delicious, and they are all gone. My order was on time and well-packaged. They were the star of the party. They had an array of other Jamaican specialties that were begging to be purchased. The restaurant is immaculate, and the cashier, though busy, was helpful. *A side note to those unfamiliar with establishments like this. We did take out from this restaurant. I will be back! Normally I would say we made it into multiple meals but it was too good to stop eating. The curried goat with rice and beans was amazing. I order this from various places often and this is in my top 5. The spice level was perfect for me. A lot stronger than other places but not over the top. The curried chicken with Spanish rice was a little too spicy for my partner but he still enjoyed it. Between the rice/beans and the Spanish rice, hands down the Spanish rice was more flavorful. The cabbage side was really good. Sweet. A nice break from the spice. The plantains were good but inconsistent with the dishes. The goat came with one and the chicken had 2 or 3. We also tried 2 patties - spinach and vegetable. Nothing bad to say about either. I really liked that the dough wasn't fried. They have a lot of choices do I need to try them all! The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because I didn't personally pick up the food and see the inside and their COVID precautions first hand. I ordered the goat curry with a side of plantains and was pretty disappointed. The goat curry looks like you get a decent amount of meat, but a good portion of it is bones and gristle. I wouldn't trust a child to be able to eat this safely, because there's small bone slivers in almost every bite. The bits I could eat tasted pretty good, shame it has a ton of tiny bone fragments. The plantains are pretty sad looking, they're dry and not very flavorful. For an extra $3.50 for a side of 6 I was at least expecting something decent. I've been going to Golden Krust for years and I have never really had an issue with the baked goods, my son loves the patties and the food is good most days but not the most authentic, the stew chicken is usually hard in texture so I decided to try it again and it's the same. The cost of the food is reasonable for their lunch special. My most recent experience wasn't a pleasant one, my wife was craving bun and cheese all day and she was looking forward to it when she came home she said the bun was ok but the cheese was hard and stale, so she ate the bun and left the cheese, so normally I would ignore it but I was in the area and I brought it back (about half of it) and they told me they can't refund the full amount but that they can give me "a piece of cheese" and all laughed so i said it okay and left. I wasn't happy with the lie response and the principle is make the customer happy and they will return, I spend a lot of money here and I felt disrespected in the way I was ridiculed in front of other customers as well. Not sure if I'll return to this location for Jamaican food. Good thing I have options! read more

The first two times I went, they barely had anything and their server/cashier obviously had tons of better things to do than help me. But today, I went to grab a few patties on my lunch break (because how could you run out of patties) and I saw they had a deal ; buy one pattie get the second 99cents, so I bought four patties. This location opened up a about 3 weeks ago and i visited 4 times. First visit was opening day, decent food. Each visit thereafter...hhmmmm... they were always out of what i wanted. Oxtail was finished by 6pm; rice and peas had also run out (25 min wAit for more); stew chicken also gone and no soup. Today was it for me...i called at 3:30pm to ask what kind of soup they had...(no more soup) its finished. I understand they just opened a few weeks but if you're constantly running out of food ( expected staples) they need to revisit how much they're cooking per day. Very disappointed! I ordered some food from Golden Krust via Doordash. I ordered the oxtails with white rice and selected an option of $3.60 for a "larger" portion as I intended to share this meal. The food arrived and it just really wasn't good. The rice was clumpy, the oxtails were scarce..just 3 small pieces which was very disappointing. The vegetable that accompanied the plate was cabbage which seemed more uncooked than not. The whole experience was awful except 1 beef patty that I ordered. My total bill came to almost $50.00 and boy what a freaking total waste that was. Never again. read more
