Always a good thing. The food, however, was a mixed bag. First, I ordered beef and snow peas (I asked for it to be spicy), and the dish was among the best I've had in a long time. The peas were crunchy; the beef was melty; and the sauce was rich -- and spicy, just as I requested. Because I don't eat a ton, I ordered the upgrade (to fried rice, wonton soup and an egg roll) to share. Meh. The broth was nice, but there really weren't wontons in it. Rather, they were ribbons of way overcooked pasta. Not a deal-breaker, but nothing memorable. The egg roll was the typical freezer-to-fryer variety. Not terrible, but hardly plump and definitely not rolled in-house like the good ol' days. Finally, the fried rice is missing something. Not only do I believe that it was never cooked in a wok, but it also had a scant flavor of sesame oil and little else. I'm not usually one to tell people how to do their business. This time is different though, since I am not the only one to mention the bland 'fried' rice here. Use some soy sauce. Use the wok -- and not the microwave. And perhaps, use an egg and a little garlic. But hey! These guys have been in business for a minute, so we 'fried' rice detractors must be in the minority. All of that to say, this place does an outstanding job with the beef and snow peas. But next time -- if there is a next time (I live in Houston) -- I'll ask for the steamed rice and dress it myself.

There's maybe enough meat for one serving and then one serving of just veggies and a whole crap load of sauce. Do better. I won't be back, and they're 3 minutes from me!

After I waited the customary 30 days for my anger to subside, I decided to give them a fresh start and ordered again. Based off of reviews, we went with Mongolian Beef and General Tso/Tao/Tsao's Chicken. Fun Fact: General Tso was a real person, and his family doesn't like the fact that an Americanized chicken dish is named after him, but I digress... I opted to add $3 "extra beef" to the Mongolian Beef order, because, well, I'm kind of a glutton. What arrived was a very tasty beef dish that unfortunately was mostly vegetables and without any trace of the "extra beef". It was almost as if my cardiologist intercepted the order and told the chef, "No, no, no... more veggies for Dan..." Tasty? Yes. Worth the $12 I paid for it? Not a chance. Minus one star. The General Tso's chicken was decent, and they obviously use a higher quality of chicken than most places do. There's just one major issue I have with that: I like my General Tso's to be the smaller chicken cuts of questionable origin that I've grown accustomed to. If I wanted huge pieces of chicken breasts in a barbecue-like sauce I'd just do it myself on a grill. Now, I know that General Tso's Chicken is like the chili of the Chinese food world: It's different at every place. Nonetheless, minus one star. Just like Aunt Suzy's recommendation, this was a letdown.
