Yesterday at around 7pm, my boyfriend and I ordered Chinese/Japanese food from this restaurant. We were in the area and we decided to have diner because we've been here before and we think the food is A1(delicious), we've never had any complaints which is why this was not the only time we ordered from here. That is, until yesterday. I would NOT be writing this review if I wasn't sure about my experience but there is no coincidence of it. Both my boyfriend and I got food poisoning from this place. I have a more sensitive stomach so my reaction came before his. We could obviously seek further action of this but with the virus going around my best try is a Yelp review to let the restaurant and clients know what our experience was. Family friendly, clean space with attentive and polite service. Extensive menu of Japanese and Chinese dishes (which I would usually avoid as a purist). I've had more of the Chinese items but enough of the Japanese sushi to know that the raw ingredients are fresh and tasty. On the Chinese side the food is excellent, not overly oily or greasy and full of flavor. The food is prepared fresh but service is fast. When ordering for delivery my food has arrived hot and with all necessary utensils. Yesterday was the first time that we had a terrible experience with our order to go. The only vegetables in the mu shu vegetables were 3 pieces of mushrooms, other than cabbage, the plum sauce had no flavor and was completely liquid. Someone forgot to put the hot and spicy in the eggplant dish. Sauteed green beans were swimming in the flavorless sauce. Mongolian lamb had an unusual addition, red bell peppers. We just moved to moraga and this gem is down the block from our house. When driving by it didn't seem like much but the reviews were good and my wife loves sushi so we had to give it a try. We ordered the salmon avocado, tuna avocado, and 49ers all of which were fantastic as well as the seaweed salad which came in a more generous portion than is usual. The slight disappointment came with the tempura spicy tuna roll which was soggy instead of crunchy and the miso which came luke warm in plastic containers for takeout and had an unpleasant amount of papery bonito flakes. Overall though it was a positive experience and the prices are good. I would definitely recommend, they also gave a generous amount of Fortune cookies which I guess is a plus of it being an Asian hybrid restaurant. read more

It was our first visit to Golden Palace and was not sure what to expect. We ordered Pan fried Hong Kong style noodles, Mongolian beef and a Bento box with California rolls and tempura. They served a cup if Hot&Sour soup which was very good. The pan fried noodles was exceptionally good, one of the best we've had in the Bay Area. The bento box was good too and came with sea weed salad. Mongolian beef was highly recommended on Yelp but was quite average. The staff is super friendly. Indoor dining available. Golden Palace is shockingly really really good. Its busy during the weekdays, the service is the best, I mean really the best I have ever had. Each person is so kind to my children. Don't get nervous that this is both a Chinese and Japanese restaurant. It good food. This evening I had the spicy tuna roll, ate a bite of my sons Chinese potstickers (yummmmm) and then Steve got orange chicken. It was all really yummy. But the best part of this place that my son says makes it a 5 star is that they give you cotton candy. Next time I want to try the garlic shrimp noodles! I hear it is great! read more

Nice surprise to find Chinese and Japanese in one place. The food was very fresh and not over cooked... portions were good.. taste was quite fresh and not run of the mill Chinese. We will be back. Service was very nice. They said they used to do karaoke and Cotton candy nights before COVID and pan to bring it back!! ... then they offered us 2 small bags of cotton candy. It's not often that I find myself craving Chinese food, and it's even less often that I find myself in Moraga, but last week those two rarities coincided, culminating in a delicious dining experience at Golden Palace. I needed lunch and settled on da Palace after spying their good reviews. I'm usually cautious of restaurants billed as Chinese and Japanese--or whatever blend of Asian countries are thrown in the mix--but I reserved judgment and sat down anyway. The waitress was patient, polite and put up with my questions about all things veg-related on the menu, happily explaining what they had without any (probably deserved) exasperation. Their lunch specials include a piping hot bowl of soup and a little sesame-covered dough ball appetizer thingamajig that I annihilated in a few seconds flat. It was so friggin' delicious. I ordered veggies and brown rice the first time I visited but highly recommend the vegetable chow fun, with it's perfect noodle-to-veggies ratio. It's probably enough for two people, or for one person to bring half the plate home, but far be it from me to judge your decision. Oh, and to say the service is quick is an understatement. Found this restaurant on yelp, of course, while in the area. The raving reviews and pictures convinced us to give it a try. We ordered the following: sautéed string beans - amazing black bean and garlic flavor! I could down this with a bowl of rice! combination chow fun with gravy - generous portion with a nice "seasoned wok" flavor. mapo tofu - another wonderfully prepared dish I could polish off with a bowl of rice Chinese potstickers - 2-3x the size of a "gyoza", these seven thick-skinned potstickers were filled with a flavorful meat filling and served with a dipping sauce. vegetarian sushi roll with brown rice - filled with carrot and tofu skin. My review is for the Japanese food only. Like most days, today I was craving sushi for lunch. I'm trying to be a good Lamorinda citizen and eat locally and I chose Golden Palace. I had heard about it from various people in the area that this place serves both Chinese food and Sushi. I don't find it unusual that Chinese people are serving sushi since that is fairly common in the area. Food: I was welcomed with water, hot & sour soup and 1 sesame ball filled with sweetened red bean. So far so good. I ordered the $10.50 Bento lunch with sashimi and shrimp tempura. In addition, I ordered the double salmon dragon roll ($13). The price is fairly cheap for the area. 3 of the 4 shrimp tempura in my meal were COLD and 1 was freshly made and hot. The sashimi was fine nothing special. The roll was ok as well, there just wasn't a lot of flavor so I questioned the quality of the fish. I ended up not finishing either dishes. Ambiance: It was fine. Nothing aesthetically pleasing and to be honest a little dated and on the cheap side. Service: Again, it was fine. Growing up just down the street, I've seen multiple restaurants come and go in this location, but this being the most interesting with its Chinese/Japanese fusion. My first impression going in - is this really a Chinese restaurant? I know I shouldn't be surprised that when my family walked in here, we were THE ONLY Asian family, but I should have taken this as a huge red flag. We ordered a pao pao platter, some sashimi, a roll, hot and sour soup, and honey & walnut shrimp. All of it was hugely disappointing. My family used to frequent The Great Wall in Lafayette and they had the best pao pao platter. They gave you the little thing that had fire in it, with chicken wrapped in foil that you could bbq a little, as well as some beef skewers and other goodies. Golden palace gives you shit. Literally, a poo poo platter. The egg rolls were so mushy inside, my mom couldn't even decipher what it was comprised of. The chicken and beef skewers were like eating tasteless jerky, and it cost us $16! They also garnished it with some rotten broccoli that I noticed tasted bitter as hell after I saw all the black spots in it. The hot and sour soup tasted alright, but it didn't have any fungus.. or white pepper - probably catered for the unadventurous folk. China Moon does much better. The honey & walnut shrimp was disgusting. The batter was so heavy that we peeled it off and just ate the shrimp, which also did not seem the freshest. Not how I remember this dish being. The sushi was alright. Not the greatest, but reasonable. Also, my fortune cookie was weird as hell. My fortune said "One of the keys to happiness is a bad memory." ....like, I can only be happy if I forget I ever ate this meal? All in all, the service here was nice. No complaints at all with it. But the food was horrible. And expensive for what it is. We ended up paying $80 before tip. My parents have decided to NEVER take me here again. (YES!!!) EDIT AFTER OWNER'S COMMENTS: I'm glad that the owners take the time to passive-aggressively respond to their reviews. At least they "care" about what their customers say about their food. But reaaaally, no need to try and rebut my review with your sarcastic remarks - I'm just letting other people know about my honest experience! Yes, we did consume almost our entire meal, because as I said, it was expensive for what it was and the sushi was at least decent (which is what we ate in its entirety). And as a family who 1 - isn't really into causing a scene at the restaurant, and 2 - just isn't into wasting food, we're gonna eat it! However, we won't necessarily enjoy it. And plus, everyone was super nicer and courteous, always checking in - it's hard to be like, "hey, your food tastes bad!" - and I'm sure many diners in general feel the exact same way about the whole dining experience. Also, I proved with photographic evidence that my food was not of the greatest quality, so not sure how facts can be argued there. Sorry, if you are Asian and come in here to eat. The servers will serve the non-Asians first although you have been sitting and waiting for awhile. The 2 other tables of people had the exact same amount of people in their group as we did. This sucks because I'm trying have a nice dinner with my husband and he is not happy which makes the whole family uncomfortable. They give you fruit for free - that is nice, they did the same thing last time. My soy sauce tray had old rice stuck to the side of it. Not clean enough. The tables that sat down after us were able to get their food before us and my daughter had to wait and extra 15 minutes for her little California roll after we all received our orders. Poor thing was hungry and then they came out and showed us the tab where we ordered food to show us what we ordered. And we had to tell them that the first person that ordered never received what she asked for. They tried to make it up by giving the kids mango juice. But now, I'm not hungry because my husband is upset and my daughter is hungry and what a waste of the sushi I ordered. Now, because of their poor service, we can't eat here anymore. This place has been around for a while and it took me so long to try even though I live so close! I decided to go here for a casual weekend dinner and it was pretty good. I ordered the dragon roll which I quite liked (id round up to 3.5/5 here) as well as the sake salmon nigiri. My brother got the mongolian beef, and it came out way quicker than my meal which was a little off putting but eventually I got my sushi and I enjoyed it. The people working there are quite attentive to refilling your water (+1 for that) and are generally friendly. They'll also give you a small tray of fortune cookies as well at the end of your meal! Delicious!! I'm really glad we finally tried after wondering for a couple of years. (We honestly stayed away because we read that previous restaurants at this location were cited or closed because of health issues). Our loss and I wish we hadn't let that keep us away. When we finally ordered takeout, I realized we had been missing amazing food, here at home! I also learned this restaurant's origins were of the little Chinese/Japanese hole in the wall at the Moraga shopping center near at the end of Moraga Way. Whenever we ordered takeout there, the owners graciously offered us fruit or sodas to take home . Dining there was a great experience too. We've had many good meals from Golden Palace this year. Love that they offer Japanese and Chinese on the menu. Nothing like a tempura roll with their amazing sweet and sour pork. People recommend this place for gluten free food and their menu says "all dishes can be made with gluten free sauces". According to the two girls working there, they have gluten free sauces, but none of their dishes are gluten free. What!??? I had been there before and I was told my food was gluten free and now I'm told this!??? I was looking for a different dish and decided to ask if they could also be made gluten free. So deceiving! From the answer I received from the restaurant, it's even more confusing. Offering gluten free options but then told they cannot make anything gluten free? I have health issues and not always know what made me sick for a few days, being told my Mongolian beef is gluten free only to find out it was never gluten free because they marinate the meat in wheat. Please clarify what dishes can be made gluten free because according to the staff nothing except vegetables can be made gluten free. It's not a matter of being experts in food technology... it's a matter of offering a clear menu that specifies what dishes can be made gluten free and not to be told that they only have gluten free sauces upon request for dishes but that those dishes still have gluten. So for those who are looking for gluten free food now you know you can't eat there. read more

Every time I go the service and food are excellent! And I was happy to see that after a couple years of not going to this spot, the great service and great food haven't changed... Here is this gem that does them real well, and has been personally delivering before dash/Uber/grubhub, complete with mobile card reader too!! We can't get enough of the Golden Fried Rice which has real crab, very delicious!! Big portions, fresh ingredients, great price and attentive service. They cater to gluten free patrons as well, and have gluten free soy sauce on request. I think the only shortcoming Ive found here is the selection of teas, but I'll write that off as one of those circumstances where restaurants in this area are sensitive to the usual local patrons (retirees, elderly, those who can't do hot sauce) and my desire was unique. Went here for dinner. The food was very unflavorful. We got the kung pao chicken which was mostly veggies and onions with very few pieces of chicken, the mongolian lamb which was mostly onions, very very unflavorful, had to actually season it at home, and then the sour cabbage, which is usually one of my favorite chinese side dishes. it was very very wet, and had no flavor. tasted like watered down sweet and sour sauce dumped on top. for the meat portion of the dishes i think the prices were a bit to high. read more
