    French Onion Gratin

A very interesting as well as delicious menu for New Years Eve! The mind-blower of the night was the Potato Bisque. It was an outstanding mixture of Potato (duh. . .) Lobster, Avocado, Caviar, Cream and Crispy Onions. Absolutly Amazing. The French Onion Gratin was very good but not even close to the bisque. Both appetizers, Beef Carpaccio and Bacon Wrapped Dates (with Duck Confit) were delicious. The Pan Roasted Pheasant Breast with Himalayan Red Rice and Shallot Game reduction was both different and very enjoyable. And again in the different category was the Sweet Bread Stuffed Quail & Chestnut Ravioli. Delicious. Both the Blood Orange Olive Oil Cake and the Profiteroles with 3 different Ice Creams were a nice way to end our meal. We were in the room that was once the solarium and to our taste, the nicer of the 2 rooms. The whole establishment, including the bar, has a very comfortable, cozy feeling. The Wine prices are very reasonable. Our server Madison was well informed and fun to talk with during the night as were other staff members that we met. Looking forward to returning some time in the Spring.

The place is beautiful. This is our first time coming since the Thompson family took it over. The service was friendly and attentive. We were seated in the windowed atrium type addition with a nice view of the canal (opposite road side). The cocktails are delicious. I didnt love that they don't use luxardo cherries, but they use some other type which mixes well with the Old Fashioned I ordered. The pomegranate spritzer seems popular as ours was among many we saw in the dining room. We tried a variety of soups and apps. The French Onion was a deeply flavored rich broth topped with the ubiquitous gruyere. Their topping was just the right amount. Not too much to make a gummy mess, and not too little. The cheese also had a slightly sourness that was a good compliment to the rich soup and onions. The potato leek soup was also good, although not as pretty as we would have hoped. (could have used a nice swirl of cream or cream fraiche). The lyonnaise salad was great. Crisp frisee with crispy diced potatoes, bacon lardon, and a nice dressing all brought together with a poached egg. This was a highlight and gave me flashbacks of Brassiere Perriers in the late 90s. The crispy pork belly app was good. The accompanying sauce could have used a little more flavor (either tangy or sweet). The pheasant pate was a delight. I absolutely love pate served in this fashion (sliced from a terrine). The terrine had pistachios and other bits of things that make a terrine delicious including a thin wrapping of aspic/fat. The yummy condiments that come with a traditional terrine were also good. The cornichons, the high quality whole grain mustard, and toasted buttered baguette discs were spot on. The wild mushroom baclava was different. This take on a classic mushroom puff pastry tart was probably our least favorite. The baclava retained the sweetness of a dessert baclava with mushrooms (mostlylooked like shiitake. I could not make out any Champagne mushrooms or any other classic french wild mushrooms). IMO, this dish tries too hard. I would have preferred a more classic mushroom tart, the baclava was a little too delicate for the larger mushroom pieces. The roasted duck breast entree was good. The wehani rice is a chewy full of flavor brown rice. The roasted root vegetables including pumpkin were wonderful. The only misstep here were the brussel sprouts. I'm not sure if it was this batch or what, but they were bitter with a very off putting taste. Otherwise, the rest of the plate was nice. I had the wild boar chop special. The chef recommended that the 2 double chops be served medium rare which I agree with. Unfortunately, mine came out as more medium (slightly pink and warm) vs medium rare. While not ideal, the chop was still enjoyable. The scalloped potatoes were good as well, although like the potato leek soup, had a color that was not attractive in appearance. I would have loved if it was more like a gratin dauphinois, but it was fine. The slight vanilla flavor was complimentary much to my surprise. The braised onion base under the chops could have been subtracted. We had the butterscotch pot de creme as a dessert. This was delicious and it came with buckwheat hubbards, kind of like a shortbread cookie. This was really good. Overall, we enjoyed our experience at Golden Pheasant. Like another reviewer said, almost every single dish is UNDER seasoned. If you are used to aggressive seasoning of salt and pepper, you may find the food here a little bland. For me, it's a little underseasoned, but I can appreciate that this might be deliberate to have guests enjoy the higher end ingredients that are carefully used in their food. Plus, aggressively seasoned food can interfere with wine pairings..so there's that consideration too. Recommend.

Great spot to hit on a cold winter drive through the country. The ambience is warm, cozy, and inviting. We were recently driving up River Road on a cold winter day. We stopped in for a quite bite to eat and we were not disappointed. I ordered French onion soup followed by blackberry avocado toast and my friend ordered the duck eggs Benedict. The soup was a sweeter broth than the savory I was craving, but the cheese was heavenly! Tasted like a wonderful Gruyère! The blackberry Brie avocado toast was off the charts delicious and fresh. Highly recommend. The duck dish was terrific and perfect for duck lovers! I enjoyed some champagne with my meal and it was terrific. The bartender was friendly and attentive. I will definitely be back!

We were so looking forward to this experience. Beautiful venue. When I asked about a particular dish, the server borrowed my menu and read the description to me. Our dinners were served 2 minutes after our appetizer plates were cleared. We were hoping for a relaxing dinner, not a quick trip to McDonald's. Both dinners were served cold. To the Inn's benefit, both dinners were remade, not warmed up and very good. No apologies from the staff. They seemed annoyed. My suggestion, offer the customer a complimentary dessert or something similar in these situations.

The water we received for the table was filthy with dried scummy dirt. I didn't realize it until after I drank a glass of water.

Temperature perfect, the sauce!!! and the carrots julienned with the best spice and maybe a pinch of brown sugar (tried guessing because it was so good, these were not carrots ! So much more. And a purple potato mash that was ... I mean everything was beyond our hopes. We chose the fresh fruit desert that had a very unusual combination, 2 of which I'd never had before. I'm now a convert. We were served by Tracy clearly and expert (warm but not making herself the focus) with Brady in training and already up to speed. Some things I noticed. When food came out the whole kitchen came out and served everybody at once! How refreshing to see that. All servers were attentive and paying attention to the entire room. No one felt unnoticed and forgotten. The wonderful woman behind the desk at the entryway, took us on a tour of the event space with complete joy and enthusiasm. She didn't seem put out at all in fact I wanted to just hang out with her for a while. So welcoming. The second we walked in the door everyone said hello to us as if they had known us for years! We just moved here. We had never been there in our lives. The property is perfectly maintained, makes quite a statement, and the new converted barn was my dream barn. My only regret is that I didn't get to meet all the sheep on the property. If any guests come to visit us in our new home in French Town, we're going to recommend they stay there in one of the cottages possibly or the in itself so that they can have the ultimate comfort and the elegance. They would expect in an overnight that I fear, our guest room will not lend itself to. I want to get married again so I can get married there! I want to eat there once a week! Gratitude to my niece who we asked for a recommendation of where we should eat for a nice meal to celebrate my husband, after a big achievement. She has lived here for three years and as a trained nutritionist and chef herself. She said the only place you should go is the Woolverton Inn and its New Restaurant. She will be receiving a gift! Lastly, I was so overwhelmed upon entering the restored barn that I forgot the name of the elegant man who received us with such grace. He's a gracious host and constantly circulated the room keeping an eye on the flow with light personnel suggestions ( potato soup with lobster next time! I promise) and birthday wishes for a large families grandmother. Go, enjoy, stay there, eat there, bring friends there! Bon apetite!

Lynn, the owner, was very welcoming and helpful throughout our entire stay. We were in the Anne James suite and it was beautiful. The room was large, comfortable and romantic. Lynn serves a home cooked 3 course breakfast in the dinning room which was a highlight of our stay there. The food was fresh and delicious! You can walk to everything in Frenchtown which is so convenient. There are lots of shops, restaurants, art galleries, and antiques. If you go definitely check out the Frenchtown Inn for dinner or lunch. They have fantastic food and service. Also, make an appointment at Euphoria Spa for a massage or facial! We were blown away with how great the spa was--- and again it's walking distance from the B&B. We also took a drive over to Lambertville (about 20 min) and visited the town. It's a bit bigger than Frenchtown, and you can walk across the bridge to New Hope PA for more stores and shops. Overall it was a really fantastic getaway that turned out to be much better than what we expected. You won't be bored and there is lots to do. We stayed in the privacy suite, and after reading all the wonderful reviews, I just hoped that it would be as great as it sounded! It certainly met all of our expectations! The owner, Lynn, gave us a tour when we arrived and made sure we knew how everything worked and they were happy to give us recommendations for restaurants in the area. They were accomodating when we arrived a little past their 3-6pm check-in because our bus was late. Speaking of, we chose this place because we didn't need a car at all to get there or to get around! We took the trans-bridge line bus from Manhattan and it drops you off right in Frenchtown. Then Frenchtown is so small, we did everything we wanted to do just by walking. The room: Very clean and homey, with a very large bathroom with jacuzzi. Very romantic room, with candles surrounding the jacuzzi. They provide robes and a bottle of wine and the room also has books and magazines for your reading pleasure. It is very well-thought out, and even though it had a tv, we didn't turn it on once. The breakfast: We stayed for two nights, so I have two breakfasts to review. In the privacy suite, they deliver breakfast in a basket to your door, and you set up the table in your room with the placemats in the basket. Our first morning we were served waffles with blueberries, a warm peach pastry (maybe cobbler?), freshly baked corn muffins, yogurt, and freshly squeezed orange juice. Our second breakfast was totally different and equally delicious: sausages, breakfast potatoes, brocolli and cheese quiche, bowl of fruit (cantelope, blueberries, and cheeries), two more muffins (one blueberry, one cinammon nutty type), yogurt, and orange juice again. We couldn't even finish our breakfast the second day, there was so much food! Activities: We did Paddle Creek Kayaking (highly recommend), and ate at Bridge Cafe (so-so), Frenchtown Inn (I would stick to their Grill room), and Bamboo House (average asian food). If we ever return to Frenchtown, we would love to stay here again!

Unfortunately, I never received a response, which left me feeling that my feedback--and my experience as a customer--simply did not matter. I made a reservation more than two months in advance specifically because our out-of-town guests wanted to dine outdoors by the river. I even called ahead to confirm this request. On the day of our reservation, I was informed there was a wedding and we would be seated inside. While disappointing, we accepted the change because it was too late to make other plans. The bigger issue was the food and service. I ordered the pistachio-crusted lamb chops medium. When the meal arrived, the lamb was extremely undercooked--raw in the center. Our waitress disappeared for so long that my husband had to get up and find someone to locate her. After waiting approximately 12 minutes, my meal was returned. Rather than preparing a new dish, the kitchen simply re-cooked the same lamb chop, which was obvious because the piece I had already cut off was still on the plate. The pistachio crust that had been the best part of the dish had mostly fallen away in the process. By then, the rest of our table had nearly finished eating, and one guest who waited for me ended up with a cold meal. Despite being told the dish was unsatisfactory, there was no visit from a manager, no apology beyond the waitress taking the plate back, and no attempt at service recovery--not even a complimentary coffee or dessert. What is most disappointing is not the mistake itself. Restaurants make mistakes. What matters is how they respond. In this case, the meal was mishandled, the service was inattentive, and management showed no concern when I later reached out privately to provide constructive feedback. For a restaurant that positions itself as a higher-end dining experience, I expected far better customer service and accountability.

It was a perfect set-up for our family and friends in every way, and we could not have asked for more. We cannot say enough good things about Fox Briar - thanks to Donna, Kendall, and Jeff for helping make our wedding such a beautiful dream! We can't wait to come back and visit for a stay at the Inn - maybe for our anniversary!

My husband and I reserved a 2pm tasting on a Sunday afternoon. We arrived about 15 minutes early…read moreand were asked to wait for our tasting outside on their covered patio. That was no problem for us, since we were hungry and had brought a pizza with us. We figured we would sit outside, especially since it was a beautiful fall day, and enjoy our pizza with a glass, or plastic cup, of their Cabernet. Before heading out, the gentleman who greeted us invited us to go ahead and check in, so we did. Upon checking in we paid the $20 for each tasting and another $16 for two cups of Cabernet, then went outside to enjoy our pizza, wine and the view. About 15 minutes had passed and the gentleman came out to let us know it would be another few minutes while the group who had been there when we arrived wrapped up. He was kind enough to offer us a tipping off of the wine and some bits of dark chocolate. We waited another 10 minutes or so and decided to go inside to see if we could begin our tasting. We were told it would be another five minutes or so. At that point we were getting tired of waiting, the gentleman was becoming testy (we don't think at us, but more at the guy leading the tasting to the group there before us), and we were not impressed at the Cabernet we had had already, so we decided to leave. We considered trying to get a refund, but the greeter was nowhere in sight and the tour guide had evidently stepped into a break room to have a snack. So much for our guided tasting. We forfeited the $40 and left. We were looking g forward to this experience, but were very disappointed.
