Update: I came in a few more times to get my problem fixed. Golden rule break took care of my brake and tire hub, the one that they cracked. They were really nice and helpful. Dallas was super professional and made sure everyone have a good experience. They checked my brakes multiple times and said that my brakes were "new" and I am not braking hard enough, thus there is sound every time I brake. However I have been driving for over 1000 miles and the sound still persists, so I don't really know about that. This time the only negative was that they schedule me for Saturday (2 days before Labor Day), but the shop was closed and they didn't even inform me about it. I drove from Pullman to Spokane Valley which took 2 hours (1 way trip). Luckily, I was also visiting family, or else I would be super piss. Update (2 days after): On top of destroying my wheels, brakes is loose and was not installed properly (loose pin) and keep making grunt sounds each brake. Good customer service but very bad and unprofessional work. Full review (immediately): Recommend to go to Ryan's Honda import instead, much cheaper and better work. Came in for a brake inspection because I heard of their throughly brake check and work, quoted for $960 for caliber and new brake pads. Which I agreed, because I was in a rush. Came back and picked up my car, found out that they bented, dented and cracked my original wheel cover in the process of trying to remove it (going to be an expensive replacement). Inside my car there was oil and dirt marks everywhere; steering wheel, car seat, carpet, car side and car handle. Took me a good half an hour to remove most of it. A little nitpicky but they also changed and moved all my car settings (AC temperature, AC direction, etc...). Also, the brake is very lose compare to before (which I don't know if it is a good or bad thing). Moreover, the price here is ridiculously high, I usually get my car done at Ryan's Honda import. He only charge $50-$60 per new pad with labor ($30 for old pads), whereas here charges $100 per pad and on top of $170 labor. All in all, they did have a great customer service, however I was very very unsatisfied with their work. Loved Ben (he was very nice, friendly and answered all the question I had). The manger Jason was friendly too, however something about him makes me think he overcharge some of his customers. (P.S heard from one of my friend that this place changes their price, once you tell them you will go somewhere else for the job. Knowledgeable & Courteous Staff, Fast & Friendly Service = Happy Customer! I've never been one to write reviews, but I had to pull myself out of my comfort zone to do so after my last experience with Golden Rule Brake. I have always been impressed with the quality of service I've received and the products that they've used. The staff is knowledgeable and courteous on the phone and in person. My vehicles are serviced within the time frame specified and so far, always at a reasonable cost. When I was told about other service that my vehicles could benefit from, I wasn't put under a bunch of pressure to buy, buy, buy, but was nicely informed of which things were noticed during the inspection, which were more urgent than others to get started on first, and that was that. No awkwardness or haggling about purchasing more services. That was really nice. My last visit with them was for the mysterious banging/bumping sounds under the hood. I had a trip planned and needed this car for my trip the next day. After I explained to Mike what my car was sounding like and doing, he took it for a test drive and was able to determine that I needed to replace a strut. Although each space in the garage was full, Mike got me in and stayed a bit late to get my car repaired and ready to go for my trip. Shortly after I bought my used truck a couple months ago, I noticed a slight clunking noise from the front drivers side wheel area. It was getting progressively worse so I took it to a large local shop for an inspection. They had my truck for about 6 hours and called to tell me they couldn't find the problem, even though they too heard the clunking noise. A recent drive on a bumpy gravel road made the noise far worse and it was making me crazy and more worried about damage and the safety of continuing to drive it. The next day I stopped in at Golden Rule on Pines to see if they could take a look. They were super busy and said I could bring it by the next morning. I dropped my truck off the night before, and by 10:30am received a call from Mike that my truck was ready. I was surprised because I really thought there was something seriously broken in my trucks front end. Mike told me that a bolt had worked itself almost completely out of the brake caliper causing the caliper to hit the rotor with every bump. They simply put the bolt back in and replaced a plastic cap that was missing. When I arrived to pick up my truck, ready to pay for the inspection and time spent, Mike said there was no charge! I drive a 2014 Ford F-150. My brakes needed replacing as the truck would surge when applied. I took it to the local valley Ford dealer to fix. They replaced the front pads and turned the rotors. Afterwards my truck would make clicking noises and still surged when the brakes were slightly applied. The brake pedal also didn't feel right. Taking it back to Ford they checked it out and assured me it was not the brakes. They weren't sure what the noise was but asked me to make another appointment and they would research the problem. Fed up with that answer I took my Ford to Golden Rule. They drove my truck and noticed what was wrong. They checked the brake job done by Ford and found that the rotors were improperly turned and the the new brakes were improperly set. The front drivers side where the noise was coming from was loose and the passenger front side was so tight that the wheel would not spin freely. Golden Rule re spun the rotors and replaced the front brakes. All within an hour and a half. The cost was far less than Ford had charged and my brakes are once again like new. No surging, no noises and perfect brake pedal pressure. I cannot say enough good things about Golden Rule Brake. read more

On February 17th, 2017, I made an appointment with Golden Rule Brakes on Francis to have my Macpherson struts checked on my 2008 Subaru Legacy. The car seemed to be riding far more roughly than I was used to. The technicians checked out the front and back struts and found everything to be on working order. They did notice that the rear brake pads would probably need to be replaced in the spring. I offered to pay for the 1/2 hour inspection but was told it was not necessary. I made an appointment April 4th for the rear pad and possible rotor work done and dropped the car off. After less than 1/2 hour, Josh, the technician informed me that the pads and rotors in the rear were good for another 10K miles. Again they declined any payment from me for their time and resources. I'm a native of Spokane and like my father, have always taken our cars to Golden Rule when ever brakes, shocks or front end work is needed. Josh at the Francis store is a true professional that won't sell you anything you don't need. I would recommend Golden Rule to anyone who need repairs that they provide. My experience was a couple of years ago, I wanted a brake inspection done on my 04 F250 80K miles factory brakes before I pulled my trailer to the coast, they gave fast service and said my brakes are good for another 30K. Most recent (I was not there) a young man came in on the recommendation from another shop to get a lug replaced on the front end, once they took off the tire it was apparent the truck could not be driven, the rotor and front brakes were wasted the cost was quoted at $300. he did not have that kind of money and could not come up with it, a customer in the shop volunteered to pay for the work all $300 ( isn't that awesome?) I will find out who the person is and personally thank them, but the mechanics at Golden Rule brought the price down to $80 to get his truck out of the shop in a safe condition, the customer paid the bill. there is a big life lesson here and I know this young man will take it with him and pay it forward when he can many times over. I bought a truck a month ago, and it needed some brake work done before it was road worthy. I took it to Golden Rule Brake on Pines and the guys were fantastic. When I first went in, Mike did my brake eval and told me I needed a new master cylinder and would need new front brakes soon along with a few minor repairs. When I went back to have my master cylinder replaced, Kelly (and another man whose name I didn't catch) took care of me. I pointed out that I was concerned about not having the money in case more repairs were needed other than what I was aware of. He not only replaced my master cylinder in a timely fashion, my rear brakes were adjusted and I got a brake bleed at no cost. The guys are so polite and professional, and they really go the extra mile to make sure your vehicle is good to go and they are willing to work with your budget! Josh and the Technicians here are great. I've been coming to this same location for more than 8 years, with a variety of vehicles. I did worry a couple of times when they changed Managers, but that never stopped them from being friendly and helpful. I never know whether I'm getting the best (lowest, cheapest) price for services they provide, and I could shop around for better, but I've always felt they were honest and, as important, knew what they were doing, and a BIG plus -- not trying to upsell or sell me things I really don't need, yet. I do not stay "loyal" to those type places. On this latest visit, they found a problem that had been worrying me for some time and which even the Toyota dealer (RAV4) didn't find, and they FIXED it, at a most reasonable rate, and QUICKLY. It helped me that no one else was waiting. Good timing on my part, because these folks are popular. I will continue to come to this location. read more

I had the front tires on my lifted truck replaced because of severe wear on the outside edges of the tires. I suspected a problem with the camber and the tire shop recommended Golden Rule Brake for a front end alignment-- so i went there. I explained the tire wear problem to them and they checked out the truck and test drove it. When they finished with my truck, I asked Jason, the store manager,"how bad was the truck out of alignment?" he said "actually, the alignment is within specifications". He explained that doing a lot of in-city driving with a lifted truck and wide tires can cause lots of outside edge tire wear when rounding corners. Wow, i was so sure it was the alignment! When i asked how much I owed, Jason said "no charge". I was so surprised. Thanks Golden Rule for a great customer experience. I have been coming to Golden Rule since they 1st opened in Spokane Valley in the late 1990's. I came in the 1st time because the tire store down the street wanted to sell me every possible thing that could be replaced in a braking system at a cost close to $2,000. Ouch! I took it to Golden Rule for a 2nd opinion and walked out the door for less than $300. The brakes worked perfectly until I traded the car a couple of years later. I always take my business to Golden Rule, not out of blind faith, but because they are always able to beat the competition. They won another job today on my 2004 Mercedes and I actually negotiated the job with the owner, Dallas Low. I took my SUV to Golden Rule after being told by a large "well known' shop that my brakes needed to be replaced & that they were "very bad" ... "don't drive on them very much longer" . I couldn't afford their quote so after hearing an ad for Golden Rule I thought I'd see about a second opinion on my brakes by them. Boy am I glad I did, not only did they make extra efforts to accommodate me right away ( I was having to walk back to bus stop, go home,wait, & then take the bus Back to them)etc.... anyway long story short after 45 mins they told me I didn't need to have new brakes ! & not only that...... said all they needed was to be adjusted.... which they did & did not charge me anything !!! I went into the pines location due to a brake issue. It was a Saturday and they were definitely busy. I talked with Kelly and he explained that the shop was busy but he could see that I was needing the work as it is a business vehicle and I am unable to provide services to my customers without it. Kelly had it assigned to Kenny who immediately started the inspection. The work that was needed was substantial but Kenny and Kelly both worked together and completed the job. In responsive to review by Christine J. I'm one of the people who came in last Friday for "services done incorrectly." I brought in my car for work to be done on front brakes, rear brakes and alignment. I was extremely happy with not only the price, but also the courteous service I received from the staff. The reason I was there on Friday is because I felt like the car was pulling to the left a bit. Alignments are tricky, so I just wanted the mechanics to double check the wheels again. I can't say enough good things about the folks at the 815 E. Francis location of Golden Rule Brakes! They got my car in on very short notice and fixed my front brakes at less than half the price I was quoted at another automotive shop. And they only repaired what was necessary, telling me the pads were still good so only replaced the rotors! They took care to cover my seat with a cloth so as not to get my car dirty as well!! Great, honest automotive work at a fair price. After 80k miles, my 2008 Honda Civic started to make the classic "chirping" sound of worn out brake pads. Took it in and fully expected to hear I needed all 4 wheels reworked and to need to replace a rotor or two. I was pleasantly surprised when they told me the rear brakes had plenty of life left and both front rotors could be turned and reinstalled. Very impressed with their integrity and the quality of the work. Prices were fair, work was done quickly and the individuals I spoke with were all courteous and professional. My son was changing a flat tire on my car and broke part of the stud off in one of the lug nuts. I didn't want to drive my car with one less lug nut. A friend recommended Golden Rule Brake. They gave me a decent quote on the phone to replace the stud. I took it in and when I got a call from Josh, he said the tip of the stud broke off so they cleaned it up and put a new lug nut on it. When I asked what I owed, he said it didn't cost him anything so I didn't owe him anything. Had all the emergency lights BRAKE, ABS(!), and the car over squiggly lines lit up on the dashboard display after changing over the winter tires, so I brought it to the golden rule brake on Francis. They said everything was coming up fine, apparently some debris in a sensor, and they let me go at no charge for the inspection. I'm pretty sure other shops I've been to wouldn't want to let any customer leave without paying for something, but this store seems determined to provide an honest service first and foremost, and the rest will follow. I am so thankful for Golden Rule Brake. Let me tell you all something. I went into a Toyota dealership in North Idaho a couple months back. They told me that both my front and back brakes needed to be replaced. It didn't feel any pulsating or anything like that- so I scheduled to go into Golden Rule Brake - within an hour or so, they had me back driving on the road. Golden Rule brake told me that I had 70% left or so left on all the brakes. I don't understand why the dealerships in North Idaho still employee bad employees.
