I came in an the piercer had to go to lunch which is fine so I come back after his lunch like I said I would and he is helping someone else which is slightly annoying. I'm not sure how long you have been in business. But, walking into your store?... First thing comes to mind is.. Ameture. I am visiting out of town, and needed to pick up a ring. I walked in, did not get a 'hey.. how's it goin.. someone will be with you..' I mean, if you're tattooing in an open area by the FRONT DOOR? at least say something!! Business ethic obviously doesn't care for customers privacy, so why not say something to a possible customer walking into the store! Did you not hear the door bell ring when I walked in? And you didn't mind I was standing at the counter for over 5 minutes, and made no eye contact? Besides no customer greeting, store is poorly setup. Tattooing sessions are viewable to the public. And to the eye, it doesn't look as if the customer has an option for a private session. There is not a great selection to body jewelry. They have great display cases, that are practically empty. Some tacky shirts hanging behind the counter. Who wears that? -- I mean.. if the previous reviewers love this place? ... I suppose the bar isn't set too high, upon lack of expectations. I think Golden Rule is in need of some business class. Especially for this type of field. If you have the skill and is passionate about tattoo as an art. Treat it that way! Tattoo skill is highly appreciated, come on- it's permanent! To some people, inking of the skin can be a special moment. I guess my main suggestion is - improve your customer service and maybe rethink about the way stations are setup. You have a great space, and could really be used to something awesome! My husband and I went into Golden Rule on our anniversary to talk about matching tattoos. I've been in other tattoo shops and have always been greeted immediately by whomever was behind the counter, as anyone would reasonably expect. The person behind the counter was sorting t-shirts but not working with a customer. He looked up at us, and then back down at what he was doing- no greeting, nothing. Several people who were doing tattoos looked up as well but not a single person said a word. We wandered around for about five minutes and the over all feeling was that they were either too busy or too cool to talk to us. It was a huge disappointment. After a lot of 'shopping around', I chose this place because it was the most sanitary and friendliest. They made me feel 100% comfortable and I'd recommend this place to anyone! Plus.. they had a lot of piercings themselves and I didn't want a piercing from someone who didnt know what it felt like! Update: 3/1/2011 I lowered the rating on this from a 5 to a 3 because of how this place treated me after my piercing. Apparently there was some inner office drama there and my piercer was no longer working there when I went back to get the smaller jewelry/bar as promised by my piercer. They then told me that they couldn't put a smaller size in, but they would gladly sell me something different, (after paying an outrageous price already). I go here anytime I need a piercing done. Aaron has done some in the past and he is wonderful. I recently had Jen pierce my Nipples which was pretty nerve wracking. I wasn't really sure what to expect but she made the experience fantastic. I felt very comfortable with her and she provided tons of information that I didn't even know about. The piercings look beautiful :) my only complaint is the girl that works the front desk needs to work on her attitude. I came in about a month after my piercing to get another bottle of the spray, I went traveling and they wouldn't let me take the aerosol can on the plane so I had to throw it away. When I asked for another bottle she rudely said "that's why you should've gotten the big can". I explained to her that I had to throw it away. Not a big deal but snarky remarks like that are so unnecessary in a customer service facility. read more

Had a tattoo done recently by an artist here who is only here a couple months out of the year and it came out pretty nice. Awesome artist. My only complaint about this place is their shit customer service. It's funny because a lot of their reviews have more or less been about their poor customer service. Anywayyyy, I was scheduled for an appointment at 6pm Om Sunday by a gentlemen, a week prior. When the day finally came a rather large man behind the counter, I believe his name was PORKCHOP or PORK BELLY (or something of that nature) was bitching about how it was closing time and how he didn't understand why I was scheduled so late. Nag, nag, nag, "We'll I'm going home at 6pm, I don't know who's going to stay behind but I'm going home" nag nag nag. Extremely unprofessional. He proceeded to charge me. I understood the total as $275 when it was actually 27.50. Clearly I was confused but instead of being helpful he said very condescendingly, "No, I just need 2 20s, you can put the rest away, see here, 27.50." First of all, fuck you PORK CHOP what gives you the right to speak to me that way, you're the one behind the counter you're the one that would be without a paycheck if it wasn't for people such as myself. Oh, I'm sorry DOCTOR PORKBELLY. clearly this man is so much smarter than the average customer, clearly this man has more than a High school diploma under his metaphorical belt, although even that would still be difficult to believe.. I digress.. point is don't come here. Save your money and drive an extra hour to be seen by someone in Seattle who surely, SURELY understands how crucial good customer service is. Had really high hopes for this place just based off of the woman who helped us. She was super nice and even helped us special order some new plugs. I paid for the full amount and she told us it would take 2-3 weeks to receive our items. She explained that she would call as soon as the shop received them and we could pick them up. Well ive called multiple times to check on the status of the order and its now been a month and a half. No one that works there has been any help. They dont even have the paper work proving that i paid for this order. All i have is the proof i paid over $100 to their shop on Feb 5th (day of our order). Well this was awkward. I called and made an appointment. Came from Seattle and asked the receptionist about the appt. the guy pulls out his iPhone checks his texts and says we haven't heard from Jason. Jason wasn't there... apparently he hadn't been in all morning. Okay.... I get if life gets in the way, but the receptionist took down my number when I made the appt and you couldn't call me? Give me a little "hey this isn't a good time"? I didn't get angry, I honestly just stood there speechless. And then, to just add a little salt, one of the female piercers just started to get defensive about the situation when my friend made a comment about it. Like, uh, you have two (ex) clients standing here and you are gonna defend what's going on? Like I should be understanding if I made an appt and no one calls to say it isn't happening? Like how does that make it better? Considering he was not there yet and who knows if he would be I said "you know what. I'm not going to get one today" and they asked me to reschedule and I was like I really don't know, maybe I'll call. As I'm leaving the piercer yells to me that they'll take good care of me next time. Are you for real. Did you actually think after that I'd come back? Advice to Jason and Golden Rule: if your tattoo artist is not in, please call your store (if you can) or at least reception should call the client(s) if he hasn't showed up all morning instead of standing there awkwardly. And to that piercer- the only thing that you should have said was "I'm sorry". On a Sunday, a group of us girls decided to get last minute tattoos before our friend moved to Hawaii the very next morning. Dennis was the only one there that day, and he already had someone booked. He didn't hesitate to tell us all to come back after he would be done, and he stayed a couple hours after closing to get us all taken care of. He was so helpful and didn't even make fun us for being a bunch of girls getting matching friendship tattoos. Walked in with an extremely swollen lip seeking advice along with interest in getting a longer post for my medusa piercing. When I told them I got the piercing in Portland the person behind the counter rolled their eyes at me. Got a vibe that they weren't going to help me out but I still stayed and asked questions. I'm only giving 2 stars right now, after this septum heals I'll give a full updated review. It took me 3 tries to get this done. The first two times I walked out because in the middle of being helped when asking a question about material (gold) the piercer started helping someone else and I had a life to get back to. I only went to this place because it was on my route. I finally got the piercing done(although this this time was no different, I just had more time to wait around). I know many people who have a septum piercing, I'm not sure mine was done right. First HOLY **** did it hurt, over and over and over again. I had to stop the guy a few times because it felt like he was pulling nerve endings out of my face. I think they bent the gold wrong, it doesn't close. He was trying for a good while but it hurt so bad and I was afraid he was going to do some damage with the plyers he was using. I've read up and realize some peoples wont heal for almost a year. Everyone is different, and I'm prepared to be one of those people. I think what freaked me out more was, how even though his hands were covered with gloves. The smell of weed was strong. I know it's legal here. I wasn't prepared for it. I mean this person is touching my face, and sticking metal through my skin. I didn't feel like he was trained enough to be there on his own. Had I of been just a little more paitient I would have waited for someone who was longer seasoned. read more

i've never had an issue with my piercings from them but i went recently and two of the employees were walking around with no masks on, talking to customers with no masks, let their masks slip under their nose completely while the piercing is being done. it's not professional, i don't care if you're anti-mask but if you're running a business during covid i would hope you would put your customers at ease by keeping your mask ON through all interactions. it's the bare minimum that is advised?there's signs all over the place for the customers as well so i would expect them to follow their own rules, especially when being in such close proximity to the customer while being pierced. read more

I'm not angry when writing this. I need to be honest. When you walk in, barley any eye contact - they act like they're doing you a favor by talking to you. Chop has done a couple of tattoos that were fine. It's what I asked for. The last one he did, I don't know if he was in a bad mood or what. He can do better work and I've seen it. The tattoo I chose was a female face and I chose it as a memorial. Everyone said the female looked like she had a grill or braces - her mouth was really weird, she looked like she just had dental work done and her mouth was full of gauze. I felt like I couldn't show it to anyone. I have since had it fixed and now it feels like it's supposed to be here. I know that Chop is capable of doing good work, he just really messed up on my tattoo. And how is it that they're so fricken grumpy in there? They're nice, to the people they already know. 2 people I know have mentioned the bad attitude. So if you see a review that says they have good customer service, it's because they personally know these people. read more

Can I give this place negative stars? I walked in and the only thing I needed was a nose ring and for it to be put in. $75!! I did not need a new piercing hole or anything. I believe his name was Tony? I believe he's the owner of the establishment. I was asked by one of the tattoo artists to wait because Tony was taking out the trash. And he came back in after taking out the trash and continued to check the trash cans and put trash bags in them before he spoke with me about what I needed. He took 30 minutes to do the trash and reorganize parts of the room and walked out and did not come back. When he was walking out of the room I was sitting in he was on his phone and trying to play music through out the facility. I was the only person in the place for at least 15 minutes, so they were not packed enough for them to not give good service. I had someone pierce my septum there a few months ago. I believe it was Jen. And she was fast and amazing. I would give her 5 stars. And the tattoo artist who was kind enough to come out and apologize. A few days later my ring fell out on accident and i had to go back because it wouldn't go back in. A gal helped me out and she was decent and understanding. I recommend this place. I've been getting pierced at Golden Rule for 12 years now, so this is long overdue. Simply put: This shop and the talented folks who work here are amazing! I've never had anything less that a wonderful experience each time I've been pierced. Today Aaron helped me with picking out jewelry, and I had my tragus pierced by Jen. This is the 3rd time Jen has pierced me over the years, and she's not only an excellent piercer, but really down-to-earth and hilarious! She has me laughing every time. In terms of the pricing, both the cost of getting pierced and the jewelry have always been very reasonably priced. Overall, this is actually my favorite piercing shop on the West Coast. . I've gotten three piercings here. I've gone in to get my belly piercing rechecked and they were helpful and gave me a new jewelry for it and put it in all for free. I'm going in soon to get my nose re pierced since I messed it up when putting a hoop in that I got on amazon and I had to let it close and re heal. This wasn't our first visit to Golden Rule, our first was in search of tattoo artists, and though we didn't ultimately choose them for the tattoo (because of specific art styles we were searching for), the staff was so friendly and informative, that we chose to return when we later were looking for a piercer. The jewelry selection was really good, even though they were sold out of a lot we had seen the first visit. The price was very reasonable, and we were seen immediately. The staff was again extremely helpful and gave suggestions and options for angles and such, explaining the benefits and drawbacks of each choice. Super excited to get my tattoo fixed today! 8 years after the original outline I didn't "love" but don't hate, I've finally found someone I trust enough to do my color & detail & make my tat what I always dreamed. Chop sat down with me & worked out the logistics & explained what would work best with how I want my tree to turn out & was also realistic about how it will be as it ages. I hate when artists just lie & tell you they can do a perfect cover up & it will never show through. No one can guarantee that. This guy is legit. Then I find out he has also done a huge memorial piece on my cousin that turned out awesome & gave her Mom (my Aunt) her 1st tat. I'm sold. Never going anywhere else. Golden Rule RULES!
