It is a very run down old restaurant. The staff were very friendly. The food however for me was a let down. I felt the menu is way to mixed and not sure how they keep up with all the options. They are also overpriced, especially compared to other restaurants with home cooking. I tried the half order of the biscuits and gravy. I asked what kind of gravy and the waiter said they had sausage gravy. I said that sounds good. Sadly there was a $2 up charge for the sausage gravy and I was not told about this. It was a decent amount of food but the gravy was very watery and did not have much flavor other than the sausage definitely not worth the $10. I paid for two biscuits and sausage gravy. my friend had their meatloaf and she has had it before and really enjoyed her food but I can't believe they charged $14 for meatloaf and two small sides. So we picked up another order today. The fried green tomatoes were bad, and had no seasoning, unless you count the flavor of whatever has been collecting in the fryer for the last 20 years. The house made chicken pot pie looked promising, but again no seasoning! And the pot roast potato... what a colossal disappointment. I did not have high expectations for this restaurant, based on its location, but I should have remembered that hole-in-the-wall restaurants are often the best. My party of six ordered all kinds of foods, from breakfast, to the typical American dishes, to the kabobs. It was all amazing and the portions were very generous. And ever since, we've had Golden Saddle cater everything from large celebrations, Boy Scouts Blue and Gold Banquets and small dinner parties. We've never had anyone leave hungry because they always make sure to have extra. The first time we came here, the place was so crowded we could barely find a place to sit. But, the food made it worth the effort. That was five years ago. We're in town for a bird show and dropped in for lunch. I ordered a mushroom swiss burger, and was pleased to find out that they use Real Swiss cheese. Hot, fresh, fantastic! The cheese fries for my appetizer was enormous and the bacon on them was so good! My wife had a curry baked chicken and it was great! Moist, deliciously spiced with a hint of chili powder, I may order it next time we come. The service from the one and only server on the floor was phenomenal. Loved it! We came in during a break from the Admiral Drive In car show and we all left stuffed! The all you can eat for $9.95 was well worth it! The ribs and sausages were my fave. The cobblers were really good as well. They had tvs playing the games for those that care/worry about that kind of thing. The service was also very friendly and attentive. Only improvement I would make would be to have better sides on the buffet. There were green beans, corn, and mashed potatoes... So we ordered the Chef's Special each, we didn't share it but you can. Let's just say that I have a very healthy lunch for the next day... So before you entree arrives you get some hummus, falafel, a special "salad" that more like a savory chutney, pita bread and raita ( a savory yogurt sauce). So since I can't have the bread or falafel they gave me some veggies for dipping and some of the chutney. And I don't mean a few baby carrots but a healthy amount of cauliflower, broccoli, green onion, carrots, radish, cucumber and grape tomatoes! That impressed me- I've been in fine restaurants that couldn't accommodate. I mean what is the point of having hummus if you don't have anything to dip it in, right? After that we both were served an enormous platter filled with 2 kinds of rice, baked lamb, a lamb rib( my personal favorite!), kebab chicken and ground beef kebab. They were out of baked chicken but who cared? There was so much food, and very well spiced and expertly cooked so that it was cooked all the way without being tough. I've had lamb ribs at way more expensive trendy places that were undercooked and frankly not as tasty. We didn't try any other food on the menu but some folks in line to pay before us reported the hen house burger was very good. The service was friendly and the ambiance homey and the tables were very clean. This used to be a place full of closed in booths called "Ma Bell's" where each table had a phone and you phoned in your order! I remember going there in the 80's. So we ordered the Special, and it was truly one of the best meals, period, I've had in a long time. Started with appetizer bowl of Persian celery stew, which was tender chunks of savory beef, delicious broth containing celery stalks and leaves, mint, parsley, lemon, olive oil, and lots of secret herbs & spices. So delicious! It came with some fluffy flatbread, a tangy sauce similar to tzatziki, and a tomato corn olive and capers relish. Great start! We couldn't believe the gorgeous platter when it came out. A bed of yellow and white fluffy, yet not dry, basmati rice was covered with an assortment of meats and garnishes. Tender, juicy chunks of marinated chicken breast, beef kabob strips, roasted chicken simmered in a tangy tomatillo-tomato sauce, a braised lamb shank, and two grilled lamb chops were garnished with a large, fresh basil sprig. Everything was done perfectly. The only sounds coming from my table were the moans and sighs of pleasure when trying every item, lol! The care and pride of the owner in showcasing his native dishes is evident in every bite. Even the rice could have starred in its own separate offering! They also offered a lunch buffet of barbecued meats, catfish, fried chicken, and sides which looked good, but I don't know how it could compare to the Persian dishes. My friend and I will definitely return to feast again, he's as eager to go back as I am. The "homemade" rolls, were nuked. and hard. The fried chicken was pretty greasy, and unedible. I've been to Golden Saddle twice in the past few months and I have had great food both times. The service was EXCEPTIONAL the first time. For the second visit, I think we showed up during a shift change or something because I actually had to go find our server to get refills. That sucks but I know that one hour of a waitress being bad at her job shouldn't ruin your opinion of a place. I've never had their BBQ because that's not what I go for. They have a Persian menu. I have ordered the "Chefs Special" twice from that section. It is a feast with chicken, lamb(IT IS SO GOOD), beef, two kinds of rice, pita bread, hummus, fallafel and salad bar. Only for $9.99. The salad bar may not suffice for a vegetarian's longing for veggies but it features tabouli!! Which was exceptional. read more

We saw billboards for the $5 burger special. You truly get what you pay for. The Burgers seemed like this frozen pre formed patties you can buy at any grocery store. Same with the fries, the crinkle cut fries looked like ore Ida frozen fries out of the bag. The atmosphere was just ok. The waitress' looked like former strippers & meth heads. They did their job but weren't too happy and or air heads. Looked at the buffet & it didn't look too appetizing. Flies flying around didn't help. The service was great - friendly and very much on top of refills and whatnot, and I do love the flavor of the BBQ sauce and liked the variety of items on the buffet, but I really can't go more than 3 stars. See, for some reason there were no ribs on the buffet itself (those I went with who have been here several times said that this is unusual), and the ribs they brought to the table (yes, one at a time per person, which is cool, I get that) were the kind that the waiter admitted are not the ones people usually ask for since they were the kind with a lot of fat and a lot of little bones or other "it used to be an animal" type reminders I prefer not to think about a whole bunch instead of the good and hearty kind with one big bone and a whole bunch of savage style eating to be done off of said bone (not sure the technical names of either kind). On the buffet side, the mashed potatoes and gravy really didn't do it for me, but the baked beans and pinto beans and corn were the perfect companions to the ribs that were delicious even if they were a pain in the butt to eat. There were other non-buffet menu items, and the person who went that route was kind enough to share her onion rings which really were pretty darn yummy. The building is in dire need of a makeover. Let's just get that out of the way right now. If ambiance is of ANY concern to you, this is not the place for you. I got the lunch buffet. I was a little disappointed that there wasn't any of the Mediterranean dishes I had read about, but you play the hand you're dealt. There is a CRAZY amount of variety on that buffet. For starters, there is soup (which I missed because it shared a steam table with the dessert... alas) and salad. In the salad section, the highlights were the surprisingly-flavorful potato salad, cole slaw, and pasta salad. The tabouli was a bit under-seasoned for me, but tabouli is a very subjective thing. All in all, it was a nice starter. On to the main event. I know I won't remember it all, but here's what I can recall: ham (the real kind with a bone in the middle), smoked chicken, beef ribs, pulled pork, pulled beef, two kinds of hot links, bologna, fried chicken, fried catfish, fried mushrooms, cooked carrots, sauteed mushrooms, corn, mashed potatoes with brown gravy, fried potatoes-and-onions (addictive... I had thirds), and two hot pasta dishes. I wouldn't do the hot pasta dishes again. For dessert we had a homemade apple cobbler. Two kinds of house sauces, so you can mix it up and find your niche. Surprisingly, my favorites were the fried chicken and catfish. They appear to use a cornmeal breading technique as opposed to battering, which gave them both a nice light-yet-crispy texture. I ate two pieces of catfish without using any sauce at all. I didn't have the "ribs brought to the table" experience some other reviewers had. They were on the buffet itself. They weren't baby-backs or anything awesome like that, but you felt like you had "ribbed." If you have a hankering for BBQ, this will certainly fill the bill. It isn't cheap, but it's a reasonable price considering you get a three-course meal out of it. Staff is friendly and attentive. It's a diner, plain and simple. The chicken salad sandwich is what I assume leftover chicken from the day before and the carrots are hard. It all does taste good, it's just as if I would have had my own leftovers at home. The prices are really reasonable and the waiters are extremely kind and helpful. Great food, fast service. It's one of those places you go for good comfort food and not expecting fancy decor but the price is very reasonable so you can't expect it to be fancy. We were in town for the Williams marathon and all the downtown restaurants had a 45 minute or longer wait. Golden Saddle's friendly staff got us right in and our food served within minutes. We didn't have the buffet since we aren't into the "eat all you can" scene. I had the brisket which was very tender and had a nice smoke flavor.
