She asked us for the measurements, type of window, and our info so she can call us with an estimate. We were hoping she'd at least come through with a call back on that quote. Just want to start off by saying I don't ever leave reviews. Walking in the store was very clean and the staff very professional. The sales rep at the front desk, Sofia I think her name was, very helpful and knowledgeable. The reason I'm writing a review however was the help I received from Jose Martinez as I was loading up and leaving. He was very attentive and made sure the lumber I purchased wouldn't be damaged or damage my truck. The return process for this company is ridiculous. You have to wait in line forever to return something. The forklift drivers can't find the return book they make you wait another 67 minutes just to come out with a book. I blame this on the Manager. He doesn't know what he's doing and he has an inadequate department. read more

We had a GREAT visit to Golden State Lumber. We were immediately impressed with the HUGE showroom... clean, inviting, and TONS to see and experience. Yvonne came over to welcome us. She was not only incredibly friendly, but also amazingly knowledgeable about all the windows and doors we wanted to review. She also had a few great alternatives and suggestions we hadn't heard of. Compared to a few other places we visited, we didn't feel any sales-pressure or bias towards a product that may not be a good fit. I've been meaning to write this review for a while now due to the excellent service that our company Receives from our sales person Bill Harper. I could not imagine there being a more knowledgeable, more helpful and more efficient person in this company or any company really. No matter our request he always makes something happen. Whether it's getting material pulled from the Concord facility or reaching out to one of the other facilities, he never lets us down. He might not want me mentioning this part... but, he even answers my crazy requests after hours... sorry Bill I had to write that, as it speaks volumes about the dedication to both your clients and your company! I had a last minute order today and had the very fortunate experience of handing my paperwork over to Evan in the warehouse. Evan was extremely helpful. The way that he interacts with customers is a breath of fresh air and something that I do not see very often in today's world. He was cordial, personable and respectful to both my time and that of his employers. He is exactly the type of person that makes coming to a business a treat rather than a chore. Somehow these 2 gentleman made it so I left this establishment in a much better mood than went I entered it. My wife and I just finished our outdoor living space and with lumber pricing as high as it is, I decided to check both Ashby and Golden State. I do have an account at Ashby and was shocked to see the lumber, decking and railing package averaged out at 20% less then Ashby. Jackson was responsive, professional and very easy to work with. He doesn't mess around and is quick. Quotes came in fast and delivery's were speedy as well. We've had about a half a dozen deliveries and all of the drivers have been excellent as well. We did get some defective decking that was just missed by the manufacture and both Dave and Jackson jumped on it. I regret all the visits I have made to Home Depot over the last few months! I wish we had discovered GSL sooner, because this place is amazing. Service, cleanliness, layout, convenience, all of the above! I called to stock check for 1/8 inch birch sheets which they did not have in stock, but Alex assisted over the phone and offered me a few alternatives. He was so friendly, earnest and helpful, unlike literally every other hardware store ever. Based on my conversation with Alex we decided to stop by and see what they had to offer. The showroom/entry area is so nice and clean and he was able to take us straight to the sheets he had picked out as the best alternative option for us. It ended up suiting our needs perfectly and he had us rung up and directed toward the drive through pretty quickly! You pull in and they load your vehicle with your items and its the easiest and most convenient set up ever, I can't believe anyone else operates any differently! read more

Don't buy doors or door handles here. We spent tens of thousands on MG MillWorks slider doors and outfitting our internal doors with Emtek doorhandles through Golden State Lumber. We were initially planning on spending tens of thousands more, but as we budget for the other four 12' wide picture windows and 12 misc sized windows, we will avoid buying at Golden State Lumber. We have had nothing but problems with the locking mechanism on the sliders, they have never worked and the internal part that breaks (upon simply flipping the lock) is made from a cheap die-cast instead of steel. Sliding doors that do not lock defeat the purpose of securing homes. Apparently, this is a known problem that MG MillWorks refuses to correct and the sales folks at GSL don't care to inform customers about, nor can they be relied upon to get the problem fixed. I have repeatedly reached out to our sales person, Yvonne, about getting them fixed and after having 2 GSL workmen come out to assess the locks 3 months ago, I have not heard a word on any update, on when the part is coming in, nor when they will be out to install the part. Also, during their trouble shooting, the workmen messed up the doors to the extent that they can't be fully opened with one hand; my husband has to put all of his weight, using two hands to either push open or pull close. They are so tight I am unable to open myself, nor can our kids. When I've reached out to Yvonne, she told me I should chase the workers and get them to respond with an update (but hey, no direct contact info for them). You read that right ~ the sales person told the customer to project manage GSL employees. *Are you offering a discount for customers to manage your workmen in fixing issues they created along with not fixing faulty products GSL sold us?* When I went in-person last week, I was told by someone else (who is not a sales person) that, "everyone has a sob story, on why they need doors fixed, but [the sales people] don't really want to deal with customers after the sale" Yes, we noticed. This reads as a top-down problem that literally, everyone in the company, is aware of. Shame on GSL management. Do better for your sales people and for your customers. Avoid at all costs dealing with this business. Find another supplier. It's just not worth the months of stress and chasing for anyone to care about finishing the job. GSL if you aren't paying your sales people to handle issues after delivery of products, hire customer service project managers to do so. Telling your sales people to ignore customer issues with the products you're hawking and failing to fix problems your workmen created is bad business. Re: The replacement of a door handle. There was a driver flying down Mowry Ave. He almost hits me! Keeps flying down the road going into Niles Canyon. He flies through Niles, while tailgating someone else! Then he flips ME off as if I did something wrong! I did take pictures and video of his reckless driving. Also sent a copy to a deputy at ACSO - since when I called to company the person I spoke to hung up on me. I am very disappointed with the service from Golden State, they charge me for an estimator to look over my blueprints and to the initial take off which I paid, but when it was time for the delivery of materials everything was wrong. What was the reason for me paying an estimator $175.00 to do a list of all the materials needed for this project? They clearly not review plans at all, every single delivery to my construction project was wrong, causing delays in getting the products and wasting our time unloading and loading the materials. Another bad experience, yesterday I had to drive to concord and exchange a beam and they charge me for another beam, when I called the store they couldn't find a record of my return! I sent an email to the "Sales Rep" and he has not responded yet. I requested another quote for lumber for a different project two weeks ago and I am still waiting to hear from them. I had to write this review after the exceptional customer service me and my wife received on Tuesday the 28th in the afternoon. A worker by the name of Jose. My wife and I really appreciated his personable nature. Not only was he very knowledgeable in what he was doing. He also directed me and my wife in the right direction as we are fixing a fence at our house. I've visited the store before and have never received the customer service we did that day. Update, shortly after writing this review someone reached out from customer service and pretended to be concerned. They sent someone out to "fix" my door. They swapped the door handle around leaving an open scrape where I will now need to paint. The door no longer opens or closes at all without pushing your entire body weight against the door so we now have a new problem. I sent them an email which took multiple days to respond to. I am now "back in the queue" for someone to come back out and look at it. No update was provided on how long that will be. read more

While Golden State may have good pricing, working with them post-order and learning about their back end has been a horrible experience! First, our sales person in windows and doors department, James, had three different phone numbers and his email address listed on his business card but could never be reached at any of them. He never responded to voicemails, never responded to emails, and certainly never responded to messages I left with his colleagues to call me back with questions about my order. This left me working with various people within the company who didn't know anything about my order and didn't know the history about the delays I was experiencing for my pocket door. I was told week over a week that the door was about to ship and should be in in about a week, but that kept happening to me a week over a week over week. I can completely understand delays during this time but their management of their supplier and information getting to the sales teams was horrendous. Sure enough, about three months after I placed an order for a standard pocket door we were able to pick it up. The people in their warehouse let us know that the door had been in two months prior and was just sitting there the entire time. It took them about one hour to pull out the door because it was buried by many other products. The door was left unprotected Which didn't end up damaging the door but it was significantly scuffed up. Through the process I was told that Golden State does receive updates regarding orders including any delays from their suppliers. Those voicemails and emails to Golden State go into an unmonitored email inbox and Voicemail. Very little information is communicated to the Frontline sales team. It appears in this case there was also significant miscommunication between the warehouse and the sales team given that the order was in months prior. Again, I understand if there are delays but golden states ability to manage those delays and provide efficient communication to the customer and their suppliers is terrible. I would not recommend anyone using this company and will certainly not use them again myself. read more

My man has an account here and I always ask him for a GSL sweatshirt, his guys all have them. So I go in, meet Memo at the counter (sp?) We waited for 45 minutes and yet could not find anyone who could help us find doors and Windows. Front desk said they are short staffed however one one the sales lady was chatting for almost 20 minutes with someone who I don't think was a customer and then left for lunch , without even acknowledging that I was standing there with my family to get some assistance. This is for salesperson, Stan Woerner. Spoke on the phone trying to get a quote on materials. He said needed to call back and would before the end of the day. No call back. Went into the store and spoke with him personally, he said he would get me the quote. A week later, nothing. Call him again, he claims he left me a message, or maybe couldn't that my voice mail was full. I check through my call log, no message, no missed call. Stan says he can email me the quote, just give him my email. I do, Stan says he will send it in a few minutes. Well it is the next day and still no quote. All that had to be done was get me a quote for some material, but apparently that is too difficult. Don't waste your time, go somewhere where they will actually respond. read more

I've been doing business with GSL ever since they opened. I price shop very often, and was surprised to see how competitive they were on the lumber. Bill and Monica are great to work with, and so are all the people at the main counter. Getting quotes by them over the phone or email seems to be days faster than the other two local large lumber yards. I recently ordered some custom 32' beams and the deliver charge was very reasonable. The guys in the 'yard' (all indoors) are also very courteous and seem to like working there. Like other reviewers, I also wish they were open on weekends (or at least Saturday). They said they probably will be "soon." If you haven't tried them in the past, you definitely should call them or pop in there to look around and get a quote. read more

I was having a really hard time sourcing affordable, decent boards for a very small backyard project. I went to Golden State having never been before. It's clean and organized. Sofia was able to help me calculate the number of boards I would need for my project and I was out the door within 10 minutes and spent about 10 minutes in the lumber yard picking up. I've been ordering with GSL many times. Everytime there are delays and communication issues with my order. I have worked with many other reps. Same issues. It's either their rep is not stepping up their customer service, or their vendors doesn't have a good working relationship to get the orders in time.
