I spoke to Paul over the phone to request an estimate for my shower. After sending him a picture of my horrific tub and answering a few questions, he gave me the cost. He wasn't the first or last person I called for an estimate, but by far, he beat everyone's price and warranty. We set a date and a time for the job to get done. On the day of my appointment, not only did he show up as promised, but he was a few minutes early for our meeting. If I can give Golden State Refinishing/ Paul, the owner -5 stars, I would. Before hiring Paul to refinish our tub, I had 5 other quotes and did a comprehensive summary on quality, method, recommendations, warranty and price. After talking to Paul to schedule an appointment, he seemed really professional and friendly. He came earlier than our appointment time on January 26 and got right to work. That was the extent of his professionalism. On the scheduled day, he didn't finish the job on the first appointed time and had to come later that evening, minor detail. Then after he was done, we noticed a 2 inch paint drip on the outside of the tub. We had to schedule another time for him to sand it out. Once the tub was actually dry and able to be in use, we noticed a long paint drip that's 60 inches that literally goes around half of the inside tub. The bottom of the tub is also gritty, not smooth at all. There are also potions of the paint job that has groves in them instead of being a smooth finish. We scheduled another time for him to fix the paint drip and on the scheduled time, he never showed. So far, we have had 3 "scheduled" appointments and he doesn't follow through. He didn't respond to our text or phone call when We waited 2 hours from the scheduled appointment time until we tried calling him and texting him. Since the first day of Paul refinishing the tub, he has done a HORRIBLE job. It has been over a month since he refinished the tub and he still has not responded to this day, March 6. As a new and small business owner, I would think that quality would be the most important thing as he builds his businesses reputation. It is un fortunate to be deceived by a business that just wants money with no regard to quality or professionalism. I would never recommend Golden State Refinishing to anyone. read more

After looking around for other bath tub repairman in the area and being stood up on appointments with others, I gave this place a call. After hours Paul returned my call and explained to me his entire process. I sent picture of the crack I had and within 5 mins he had a quote back to me and was ready to set a date. He was even willing to come out on the 4th of July but I insisted he didn't have too. The following Tuesday he should up and even called ahead of time to let me know he was on his way. This guy understands that customers and customer service come first and he wouldn't be in business if it wasn't for customers. He fixed the crack and the soft spots in the floor did an awesome job at blending the fiberglass repair with the floor. After that he spent a good 4 hrs in prep alone for the reglazing. The finished product is proof of his attention to detail work that he preformed. His prices were very good and his work was even better he took a 30 shower and made it look new again. His 5yr warranty made it an easy decision for us to choose him. I have already recommended him and his work to two other people who have rental homes in need of work. Honesty & INTEGRITY are core values that we should all strive for in life, but as a small business owner, you HAVE to have. Paul, the owner/operator possesses neither of these core values..... that's why I'm compelled to tell my story in the hopes that someone else will not have to deal with his lack of talent and professionalism. Here's what happened: hired Paul to do my bathtub in one of my properties. Initially, no issues. Work finished and guaranteed for a year. Several months after job, the resin in the tub started chipping away from drain. Contacted Paul, who requested pictures. Sent him pictures. He said "no problem".... gave some textbook excuse as to why, and said it would take an hour or so to fix. ......Great! 7-10 calls later. ...2 no shows with me, and 2 no shows with my tenant, who took the time out of his day to be there. Tub still looks like crap. Will have to hire another to fix. ...I will be taking Paul to small claims to pay for it. ...... assuming he is still in business. Paul.... you cannot treat your customers this way. If you are going to guarantee your work, stand by it. Do not hire this man for anything! !!!!!! Zit was fine because I was sick. On the day of the appointment, he had to leave at 3:00 and asked if he could come back and get his stuff, that was fine. A few weeks later I called to get the countertops done and we setup another appointment. Not only did Paul not show up, he has never called, despite many attempts at reaching him. I hate to do this, but I need to warn people. Paul is a really nice guy and he returned all my phone calls/texts and came on time. Unfortunately if you're looking for quality work, this isn't the company to go with. I had two shower/tubs and a vanity done. All 3 look horrible with fish eyeing, drips, thin coats, debris that dried in the finish, and even peeling already all around the drains and bottom of shower/tub enclosure. I had this done 2 months ago in May 2015 and I'm so sad. Paul was nice enough for a small fee to "fix" the errors, but they came out worse. Not to mention that when he left my house and was "done" he left all his trash here like soda cans, bottles, food wrappers, tape, cups of water still filled with paint water, and worst of all razor blades in the carpet. I hired Paul to refinish our rental tub. At first, the tub looked great but within two weeks, the tub began to peel. Paul returned to refinish it but asked for another $85 because my tenant had used a suction cup matt. After a few conversations, Paul fixed the problem for free. I was skeptical, but gave him the job. He showed up right on time and was very careful about making sure that his process didn't affect any of the other fixtures in the bathroom. When he left, I was very impressed at how good the tub looked. But the story doesn't end there. This was during the very cold spell we were having and there was no heat in the vacant unit.
