    3. Vegetable Egg Roll

I am staying at a hotel by Mall of America and ask the hotel staff if there's a good Chinese place to eat near here that delivers. I was riding my mountain bike today and I happen to fall so my ribs are hurting. I did not want to go out I was not disappointed by this restaurant, however I underestimated the size of their food. Usually in Charlottesville if you order a large egg drop soup you get a normal size bowls of soup however, I got a ginormous container of egg drop soup. The rice was the normal size of rice. This was the only thing disappointing. Cannot say I loved the flavor. The egg rolls were massive. The food is very tasty and I am not disappointing.

So first off. I found this by looking for a buffet. Golden Wok is not. I stepped in and could tell it was mom and pop style off the bat When I ordered the kid messed up my order. Which honestly didn't bother me. It just made me sigh. When they served me the food. It was served on paper plates. And the miso soup was served in a plastic to go cup. (Maybe for COVID reasons?) I ordered 3 different rolls. 2 of them were supposed to be spicy. None of them tasted remotely spicy. And the spicy salmon wasn't the best either. Subpar.

This was my second time eating at,the GW. I live in another state and like to eat here when I visit. My mother and I ordered the Beef & scallops with mixed vegetables and, garlic sauce. The beef was tender, veggies fresh and crisp. The garlic sauce was perfectly balanced, not overly sweet, nor oily, nor spicy. There was enough to feed 4 people! Our second dish was shrimp and peapods with house brown sauce. The peas pods were perfectly cooked, the shrimp were just so-so, typical for farm raised frozen shrimp. Service is prompt and courteous. This place does a consistent delivery and take-out clientele. I highly recommend it if you want clean, fresh, Chinese food and NO msg.

Crab ragoons, pork egg roll, generals tso's chicken and fried rice! So delicious!!!

This is by far the best Chinese/Japanese cuisine in this area! My daughter and I love it! We've never had a bad experience.

Cream cheese - typical but kind of small Chicken Katsu- crunch outside and not dry inside Ramen- from the presentation, does not look creamy. It also did not taste creamy. Doesn't have the typical tonkotsu ramen taste I've had before. Broth is a little bland. The pork belly is basically pork belly and not the typically ramen chashu pork I'm used to. It was a disappointing bowl of ramen. Sushi- presentation wise, does not look fancy. The plating looks like what you would get at an all you can eat place. Per husband, it was decent good. As for me, based on ramen, I would not go back for that. Maybe next time I will give sushi a try but not sure if it's a god back to place. If you want $5 appetizers, it's worth a try. If you get happy hour sushi rolls for $13 each is not too bad but regular price is about $17 per roll (like dynamite roll.) Service was quick. Food came out in 10 mins or less but it was not busy when we went as well.

The lobby was sizable and inviting with a claw machine we couldnt resist trying while we waiting for a table to free up (It's 2 token per play, $1 a token - the claw is loose on the sensitivity so use some strategy). Once seated, perusing the lunch menu (after ordering the special electric lemonaid) the base selection was typical of other spots but the specialty hot stone Waygu and oysters for 4 (8x oysters, and 2x orders of 4 pieces of Waygu) was a big hit, alongside of the crispy wings, the tasty gyoza, the very garlic house salad, and the delightful crab puff pls Edamame to start. From the Lo Mein for the misses, to the BBQ Eel Fried Rice for my and my oldest, to the specialty YumYum Roll and Spicy Girl Roll, to my youngest's favorite Rainbow Roll and Eel Avocado Roll there was plenty to come back - along some of the other Regular Rolls. And I couldnt leave without my favorite red bean and green tea ice creams! Certainly a favorite at $20 for lunch from the family - can't wait to return!

As someone who doesn't eat fish I love a veggie roll, and adding cream cheese is a great option. When ordering the avocado roll it's $1 to add cream cheese, so I would order a Philly no salmon. This was totally fine until one day I'm told I need to start paying $1 to remove the salmon, seems like a crazy thing considering I'm saving them money to NOT include the fish, arguably the most expensive item in the roll. I wouldn't care as much if there was any consistency with when I'm charged and when I'm not. Overall, communication and service could be better. Typically it's pretty slow during lunch M-Th, but when I went on a Friday it was busier, still a great option for lunch if you have an hour.

It was a lot of food! The service was also good (4/5). The hibachi chef did a great job of making it entertaining and fun, and the waitress did a good job of checking in and keeping our drinks filled. The restaurant has a nice ambiance (4.5/5) with a small bridge over a koi pond as you walk in. It is pretty dark inside, which seems to further focus your attention on the hibachi chef.

Our server was aloof and nothing to write home about. The hibachi chef was tending to three tables and we waited until he finished cooking for two tables before coming to ours. What an absolute lackluster experience! Having been to several hibachi style restaurants, this experience was by far the worst. Not only was our chef not engaging whatsoever, the only performative value of the entire cooking experience was putting a flammable on the grill and having the fire go. There were no tricks, no onion volcanoes, no creative knife work or fun. We ordered quite a variety of hibachi...filet mignon, chicken, lobster and scallops. The meat was cooked fine, but the noodles and rice were no bueno. The veggies were good. They provided large vats of yumyum sauce, which should've been a warning. We ordered the sushi love boat and it was good. The sliced lemons soaked into the sashimi and ruined the natural flavor. The ginger had a rancid flavor. One person in my party ordered chicken fried rice as her entree. It literally came out AFTER all of our leftovers had been boxed. Zero apologies or accountability from the staff. Keep in mind, we were there on a cold Wednesday night WITH reservations. I won't return to Shogun and am bummed about that.
