Delicious food and fast service highly recommend! Small little hole in the wall - secretly amazing!

Based on our experience, it's Fools Gold.

So, how long does should it take to cook chicken wings? Especially by a Chinese-American restaurant? You'd think 15, maybe 20 minutes maximum right? We waited 55 minutes since putting our online order. As we waited and waited and asked them what took so long, they kept saying the wings take a long time which was baffling to us. Well they must be right since 8 of the 10 wings were inedible and hard as rock when we received them and opened them up at the hotel. We couldn't bite into them since they were overfried and overcooked so we threw them away. As for other dishes, the vegetable spring rolls were bland although it was probably the only good thing we ordered. The combination chow mein we ordered was watery and also bland. These items probably sat out for a while due to the wings taking so long which never happens for chicken wings. And they didn't provide plastic utensils or chopsticks for us to eat which was inconvenient since we were eating at our hotel so we had to use the chicken bones to scope the chow mein. Talk about a pissed off eating experience. Not sure what people like about this place. It was fools gold for us. Probably the worst place I've ever ordered from in Houston.

Great Chinese takeout or delivery! Golden Wok is our go-to neighborhood Chinese restaurant. We have eaten in the actual restaurant a few times and have ordered take-out or delivery often. We live in Garden Oaks and the food delivery is always quick and the food is hot when it arrives. Our typical order consist of Sesame Chicken with Steamed Rice and the Beef Fried Rice. We've also had the Beef and Broccoli and General Yao's Chicken. Also ordered a bunch of Egg Rolls and Crab Rangoons when we had friends over watching the World Series Games. The portions are large, we typically have enough food for a second meal. Definitely recommend!

First I was not sure if this was the same place that used to be facing Ella or not, and I did not ask until I had ordered. There were people who had ordered and were picking up to go orders, And a lady was in front of me ordering, and every time she asked for something it was for an extra charge. One guy picking up his order was given a price and after he got his receipt he was looking at it very close. My soup and rice was more than a meal at the Chinese restaurant I usually go to and just did not feel like driving to Spring Branch. I noticed a couple of people in front of me ask for extra condiments after they looked in their bag, I asked for chili sauce before I got my bag... So when I got my order I looked in the bag and the container of chili sauce was maybe a tablespoon at best... so I asked for a couple more and the lady working the counter looked at me funny... And kinda stomped into the back and came out with a little bag, I started to check the bag and she says, "there's 2 in there" ... so I walked out the door. You notice I have not mentioned the food yet.... I got home and opened the bag... to find the little white bag she gave me that only had 1 tiny thimble of chili sauce in it, so she lied to my face! I could not tell if my pork fried rice was pork or chicken...or both. I hope it was boiled pork as I do not eat commercially produced chicken or chicken by products. And don't forget the veg-all... The hot and sour soup was neither very hot or sour, just a runny goo with a few slivers of mushrooms and bamboo shoots suspended in it. Hence the extra chili sauce... but their chili sauce is not very hot. Between the Lying, (which bothers me the most), being tight with their condiments, even McDonalds gives you 2 sauces with their yard bird nuggets, and the food just not being good enough. What happen to being happy and looking forward to going out to eat. Places like this that do not even get to below average, and we as customers take it. And it's more of our social life than ever before!! The place across the parking lot was packed!! What it boils down to is this place, which had more take out traffic than their dinning room, looses 1 more potential customer and anyone who ever asks me to recommend a good Chinese restaurant, over less than a table spoon of not so hot chili sauce. So disappointed, and seems a little high for what you get. I forgot we took pictures In the rice that's 1 tiny piece of protein Not much in the soup And the size of the chili sauce.

HEY guys I'm new to this place Golden Wok. While dining there the other day I entered the small establishment it smelled great and was very neat but when I received my order of shrimp they were very shrimp smelly, anyhow I commenced eating my 5 large fried shrimp but it was very gritty so I looked at it and the cook had failed to DEVEIN THE SHRIMP, so I thought it's highly possible to miss one, cleaning it and such, but NO Way! All of my large fried shrimp entre were not Deveined and smelled . So I missed that meal got up o pay for the house fried rice which was okay and those shrimp were deveined at least. WHILE AT THE COUNTER I told the owner/manager about the shrimp she told me Flat out NO! I shake my head looking down. I said Yes Ma'm I took a picture of the shrimp All of them were not Deveined and that was gross to me. She went to the table took the plate said look! Only three left where the other two? I said look in the knapkin I threw up in. Ha! I really just spit them out with the nasty poop gland, but she insisted. ANYHOW I had already given them my card to pay for the rice and drink I ordered but a mistake paid the full bill. Oh well. They do need to hire better cooks and keep getting seafood fresh. My rice was nominal. My dining experience was bad. So HIT AND MISS IS CORRECT ON MY DECISION ABOUT THIS PLACE.

Decided to try someplace new and of course turned to Yelp for prospective places.... I'll be honest besides the type of food, I look at the star rating next then the menu, if i get that far.... (dosen't everyone) 4 stars got my attention, and the combination plates furthered my Interest. This place is hidden in the back corner of a strip mall. Dont be put off by that... it is small inside 9 or 10 tables so I could see it filling up quickly at peak times. While we visited there were probably 5 or 6 take out orders picked up... (definitely a great option) The place is clean and the servers are very polite, everything tasted great! Its inexpensive and the portions are large We shared the pu-pu platter as an appetizer, I had the sweet and sour chicken and my friend ordered the orange chicken. I will be coming back for sure!

YES! YES! YES! YES! YES!!!! I can't tell you how miserable I was when the old location closed down because it was moving. I had gone to other Chinese restaurants in the area, but they're just not the same. China Wok on 43rd was just bleh. Eastern Chinese restaurant, although pretty good, doesn't offer orange chicken as one of the lunch specials. So when this place opened up again, I was stoked! The interior is much smaller compared to the old location, but it looks so much nicer. The old location was just plain ghetto and sketchy. This new location looks pretty decent. I'm not sure if the owners are still the same, but all I can say that the orange chicken is still legit. And even better, they now offer the option for you to substitute the rice with brown rice for an additional $1. Now I can have my orange chicken and still be healthy (Ha!!) Anyway, this place is definitely back on my lunch rotation. Check it out!

5 Stars - Authentic Szechuan that absolutely nails the classics…read more During our short trip to Houston, as a custom, we were determined to find real Szechuan food, and luckily we found Hu's Kitchen. The location is a bit unassuming, and parking is definitely tough (the spaces are very shallow), but the second we walked through the doors and smelled the Szechuan peppercorns, I knew we were in exactly the right place. I generally judge a Szechuan restaurant by their 夫妻肺片 (Fuqi Feipian)--which they cleverly name "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" on the menu. They completely nailed it. The beef, tripe, and tendon were incredibly cohesive together, yet you could tell each component was prepared and marinated in a slightly different way to perfectly highlight its specific texture. The chili oil was right on the spot. We went through a massive bowl of rice just eating this dish alone. Honestly, if I weren't feeding a family of four, I could have just ordered that and been perfectly happy. While the Fuqi Feipian proves their skill with dry dishes, the 水煮魚片 (Fish in Szechuan Hot Chili Oil) proves their skill with wet ones. It's another must-order. The execution was flawless--we didn't just finish the tender fish chunks, we ate every last piece of cabbage soaked in that incredible chili broth. For my two daughters who can't handle the heat, we ordered the fried rice, garlic pork ribs with onion, and the 紅燒獅子頭 (Giant Meatball with Cabbage). The giant meatball was spectacular. The kids completely devoured it on their own, but I managed to steal a bite, and it instantly brought back childhood memories of exactly how this dish is supposed to taste. We also had the Dan Dan Noodles, which were great and rounded out the meal perfectly. I loved all of the dishes we tried. Should we ever find ourselves in Houston again, we will absolutely be revisiting this hidden gem.

No complaints here since we were starving from an 8 hour road trip. The Dan Dan Noodles...I had high expectations but sadly this dish fell short. I recommend Hu's Cooking to use a bigger bowl and more sauce because it was difficult to mix the noodles and the sauce wasn't...saucing, unfortunately. I wish there was more flavor in this dish. The Scallion Pancake was super over-fried and oily. See image in my review. The outer parts of the pancake were fried to a crisp and only a small circumference in the center stayed chewy. I know Chinese tends to be oily but this pancake soaked up way too much oil. Half a Peking duck: super great price for so much meat. The difficulty when eating this dish is gnawing the meat off the sharp bones of the duck. Mapo Tofu with white rice: pretty easy staple, no complaints here. Dinner on a Saturday was packed but we got seated quickly and food arrived fast.

And their other menu items are fire as well! We went on a Sunday late evening. We had a 9 pm airport pickup at IAH so it was a perfect opportunity to grab a spectacular dinner and make the 30+ minute drive out to IAH totally worth it. Parking lot wasn't too full so that wasn't an issue. While the neighborhood ain't River Oaks luxury, it ain't too scary either. We kept it simple - ordered a whole duck and Bamboo House Special Noodle with Beef. This place ain't cheap but the food is worth every penny. It was very busy that evening so it's not a well-kept secret but also proves that eventually, Houstonians will figure out where the good food is. The duck was near perfect. They serve the duck with the pancakes (as opposed to the buns like at Arco) which is my preference. The soup that comes with it was also extremely flavorful. And the house special noodles with beef - oh my. I swear it's just one really long noodle so you may be frustrated trying to divvy up the family style bowl, but the labor is worth it. So good... Can't wait for my next airport run so I can sneak in a lunch or dinner at this place. So many other menu items I want to try!

I had previously visited the now closed Bamboo House on Westheimer and I remember being impressed by the food. I had to make an airport run and decided that it would be perfect timing to stop by this location. I highly recommend ordering the duck ahead of time, but we were lucky enough to snag one of the last ducks when we arrived around 7 pm on a Sunday evening. The waitress was super friendly and upbeat and the restaurant is older but well maintained. You can see where the food is being prepared/cooked and you can see ducks being cooked/warmed behind a glass window. The duck was absolutely spectacular with the perfect seasoned and tender meat accompanied by well rendered crispy skin. I love how the pancakes are paper thin and pair well with the scrumptious duck and other toppings. They also provide sugar and plum sauce as additional toppings which I thought was interesting but not my cup of tea. The duck soup was extremely flavorful and full bodied and went well with the duck. The noodles were also amazing with likely hand pulled noodles served with an abundance of tender beef and vegetables with a little Sichuan kick. I was intrigued by a strawberry chicken dish that I saw on the menu and I plan to try it the time. My diagnosis: hands down the best Peking duck in the greater Houston area!
