Placed an order for pick up - crab rangoon and a sesame chicken combination platter with pork fried rice (and egg drop soup instead of an egg roll because I've read reviews on here complaining about their egg rolls being too oily). Only $15.99 total. It was ready by the time we biked over. I enjoyed it! The crab rangoon is fried fresh and the filling is delicious! The accompanying sauce is nothing special, but they give you a lot of it. Sesame chicken platter is great when it's fresh! Not too sweet and they're generous with the sesame sauce. I didn't finish it and microwaved my leftovers the next day; chicken was still juicy but all the sauce was soaked up by the rice. I really enjoyed my egg drop soup and how thick it was. I picked up two lunch specials at $7.50 which includes your choice of white rice or pork-fried rice and either hot & sour soup, egg drop soup or soda. We had the beef and broccoli and the roast pork with Chinese veg. Both were good portions. My wife liked the fact that the broccoli was not too crunchy. Counter service was courteous. I was having a craving for good old fashioned American Chinese cuisine. This place was just the thing! The interior is classic, including the pictorial menu above the counter. Don't expect anything out of the ordinary (as far as I can tell, there's no secret authentic Chinese menu like some places), and you will be happy. We got sesame chicken, an egg roll, and sauteed sting beans with garlic sauce. All, I might add, ordered over the phone by guessing since there was no menu online. It came with a very generous helping of white rice. All was just what you'd expect from an American Chinese place. The chicken and beans were sweet and flavorful, with perfectly sticky white rice to go with it. The egg roll was crispy but not greasy, fairly average but not bad. The beans were the real standout, I suppose, remaining tender crisp and not soggy even after the sauce. Overall, just what the doctor ordered. Portions were generous for two people, we even had leftovers with just two mains and an app. I can't comment on the service or ambiance since we had takeout, but that's not what you go to a Chinese place for anyway. Hillsborough has many Chinese takeout places. Unfortunately, virtually all of them rival Panda Express for bland, mass produced takeout crap. Dong's is one of the few in the area that actually give you a slight step above what has become a black hole for decent Chinese takeout. I cannot even tell you how bad the food was, but I will do my best. After a few bites, I threw out the entire container of Shrimp Lo Mein. I'm Chinese and I spent my childhood in takeout restaurants and I can honestly say this place has terrible food. Basic things like their fried rice, which you're supposed to use overnight rice, not over a week old rice. The pork they use for it is old dried out. Be a little more creative and use some bean sprouts, some egg, maybe even some scallions. That's just lazy fried rice. Their hot and sour soup had so much black pepper in it I couldn't even drink it. There's not even supposed to be black pepper, you're supposed to use white pepper and chili peppers to get that heat. General tsos chicken? What chicken?! There was so much effing breading on it I thought it was general tsos matzah ball. Even their garlic sauce was lack luster. I couldn't taste the garlic because they didn't even use real fresh garlic, I swear it felt like it was from Costco. I get Chinese takeout because it's supposed to be simple and fast, but it seems like they can't get the basics right. read more

They have okay food and the people are friendly. I usually only go in to pick up pork fried rice for my grandma, but they don't answer the phone here! I went in 2 hours after opening so around 12, since they ignored all 3 of my calls that I made 20 minutes before I got here, and the place was empty! If you don't have people ordering food here you should be able to answer the phone! The only reason why Dong's gets one less star is because they don't seem to give out fortune cookies with their orders and they don't deliver. As a Chinese Food place, this is pretty much essential! On the bright side, this is my "go to" in Hillsborough as it is one of the best in the area. When this place first opened it was great food at very reasonable prices. The last time I went, a couple of weeks ago, it was not good at all. The General Tsao's chicken was dry and tasteless. I have been going there for years. They MUST have new owners. I had General Tso's chicken that was not edible. I had vegetable fried rice that had maybe 1 piece of broccoli. Came in just a few hours ago, the serving size was outstanding, so much more food than I expected. The Pork Lo Mein was absolutely outstanding, I felt like I went to food heaven. I don't know what has happened to Dong's Express but the food has changed COMPLETELY. The last two times I have been there, the food has been very different from what used to be Their food is now very bland and oily. Their signature dishes are HORRIBLE. For example, their boneless spare ribs, now are fatty and very oily. Their Lo Mein has a pasty flavor and it's not a good flavor. Their Chicken with Broccoli is tasteless. The "chicken" is a meat that you cannot identify while eating. Doesn't taste like chicken. The fried dumplings that used to be so good are now made with that store bought "dough" in the package and the filling is just plain bad. I don't know what happened to them - although I think they changed hands and kept the name, to keep the Dong's customers - they can't fool all of us.
