The gym itself is okay. What really upsets me is the PRICE GOUGING. Ive been going to the Germantown Golds Gyms a little over 3 years. When I first started going my monthly payment was $29.98/ Month. I am now paying $45.98/m... Ridiculous! That's a 53.37% price hike and 12.68% A YEAR while the gym stays the exact same. Thats not inflationary... that's swindling your loyal patrons. In fact, the gym is slowly getting worse as machines break and take forever to get fixed. At this point I am looking into a premium gym since I'm basically paying a premium to go to a golds gym. 9/20/2025 I proceeded to go work out at 7am as the gym opens at that time. Not only was it not open but I was waiting outside with other patrons til 7:30am and no one was there to open the property. Not the first time this has happened but it will be the last. Time to go back to planet fitness as I never had issues there. I like how they take my money on time but can't give me timely service. If you plan to stay in the Germantown area for the rest of your life & have no plans of ever leaving then sure, go for it. It has nice equipment, my husband always had a great workout and I enjoyed the classes. Nothing is wrong with the facility, but their management office is predatory. If there is ever an inconvenience about billing, they won't bat an eye about stealing your money. Trust me. When we had signed up, we were told that we have to pay for the last month's charge up front so that when we give our 30 day notice we won't have to pay anything. So not only did we have to pay one month's in addition to the normal bi-weekly charge, we then also had to pay the ridiculous $80 MD fee or whatever they call it. Fine. We had to suddenly move & put in our 30 days. Sure we were like it might automatically charge one more biweekly cycle until it's in effect whatever. They charged us for almost 2 months before we had to go in person & talk to someone because they could not discuss over the phone with a manager. We live so far now, we had to find time in our schedule to come up because we're talking about almost $200 between the two of us in charges after cancelling. And what we heard was laughable at how easily they spun a lie. The manager claimed that "for our benefit" they give us 60-90 days (charged mind you) "to give us time to find a new gym". Never have I ever heard of a more predatory practice, and I have gone to plenty of studios where the cancellation policy is 30 days and never had any issues. When I brought this up at how we were told otherwise of the 30 days when signed up, he said "it's always been 60-90 days and it's for your benefit and I don't see the issue with the money you lost". Like we've moved dude, who is going to go to the gym 90 days later?? The manager is the most incompetent, rude, belittling person I've ever met. He must hate his life the way he was talking down on us even though they are the ones who changed their word on us. He was making it sound like whatever money was lost was no big deal. It's a gym. Everyone has different opinions. Let me tell you why I think it's far better than Onelife, LA or even Lifetime. I have special memberships in Gold's, Sport&Health and Onelife. I can use any gym, anywhere, any time. And I choose to come back here- every single time. Why? It's your garage gym. It's the gym where 20 year olds aren't treating it like a bar. It's the gym where people aren't hogging the mirror to snap pics. It's the gym that doesn't get too overcrowded and you can go in knowing that there aren't going to be creeps staring at you. This is the gym where people go in with heads up and mind their business. But it's the garage gym. So yeah, some machines are older than others and maybe the women's steam room has been out of service for a while. But you have a great manager (Michaelangelo) that knows you by name, that treats his employees right, that actually has passion for this gym. It doesn't have the best budget but you can feel people's love for this gym. The community isn't an ego-social-club, it's a GYM. read more

Management or anyone acting as club manager doesn't know what they are doing because they should not have been hired in the first place. When its due time, you will be let go. There was a lot of promise about the new gym particularly for those of us that choose Golds for its classes. The group fitness room was supposed to be at least on par with existing locations even the one that it replaced. Unfortunately it is a glorified closet (probably just the storeroom for the shoes at the former DSW that had the space before). It also sports inadequate HVAC, incomplete mirrors and only one door and no windows. It is hard to understand how it passed inspection with only only one door and no other fire exit with the amount of people that are packed in that room. For those of us who are loyal to the teachers that are the backbone of the Golds group fitness class system it is hard to watch them continually ignored and dismissed (along with paying members who try to make requests) when week after week we complain about the heat and humidity in the glorified closet that they force us to work out in. Something as simple as standing fans have been requested since the gym first opened but have been roundly ignored. The gym is a place to find relief from stress and to get healthier. That's is not what is happening at Germantown. Instead it is a place where your basic health needs and safety might just be dismissed. read more

I'm very much into fitness, so I'm looking for quality gyms with decent amenities, a nice and clean place, well kept equipment, variety of fitness options, plus a sauna! I signed up for a guest pass to try out the Germantown Gold's gym because I recently moved to Germantown and was curious if It was worth It. I've been to better and nicer Gold's gyms, BUT it does have everything you need to get a good workout in. The layout is funny but it's a gym with plenty of equipment, so it gets the job done. They have a free rack, olympic/power lifting station which is nice (they do not have this at LA fitness). They have a fitness studio as well as a separate training room with ab mats, medicine balls and such. Then of course the free weight lifting, machine lifting, and cardio areas. My main reason for the rating was that this gold's gym isnt as nice as other gold's gyms ive been to and the steam room and sauna were not working well when i visited. The sauna was not hot I didnt break a sweat in there after 20 minutes (i checked that it was on). Then I tried the steam room, which was FREEZING cold because it was off, so I proceeded to turn that on to let It work it's magic... I sat on the seat which was covered in ice cold water. Very unpleasant. I waited 10 minutes to let It work, and even forced myself near the heat pump, and I still was cold, It wasn't worth bearing through. I guess the steam room system isnt as efficient as other places ive been. The locker room was kind of small and minimal as well with two showers. All in all, if you are an average person that just needs a place to work out at a local gym, they have everything you need, and if the sauna and steam room are not priority, i say go for it. read more

Tried the Germantown location on 2 separate occasions. I couldn't stand the griminess, over-crowding, raggedy equipment, etc. Left to join the local Retro Fitness site - which was AWESOME! Unfortunately, they went out of business within a year. Returned to Gold's out of convenience, familiarity. Regretted it soon after. I bit the bullet for a while and just could't do it anymore. Still grimy, crowded, not enough cleaning and upkeep by owner/manager on the most basic amenities, like the equipment that is fully functional and SAFE to use! The "out of order" signs on equipment is often on display on the same machine for weeks. I personally once reported a malfunctioning treadmill. Not only did they not repair it for about 2 months, they didn't label it as being out-of-order, so members still used it though it was unsafe to do so. And I don't know who is raising these Millenials but they don't respect the rules of the gym. These youngins - and there are a lot of them - are often loud, do a lot of socializing, openly make fun of other members. It's like an extension of high school everyday. They don't clean the machines after they use them - it's just a mess. Staff/management do virtually nothing about it. At least the ladies' locker is clean but even there, it takes over a month to get a toilet repaired by someone. A total gut job and rebuild would be the best solution for this location. They need a professional team to go in, redesign the layout, replace the stinky carpet, patch up the holes in the walls the right way, paint the dirty walls, invest in new equipment that actually work, then MAINTAIN them properly. If I could leave zero stars I would. I called back in March to cancel my membership, and was told that I must cancel it in person. The very next day the gyms were all closed due to the pandemic. Despite the gyms being closed I was still being charged for membership. I called the corporate office and was told that they couldn't help me and I needed to call the local gym. I could and left a message and noone returned my call. I put a stop payment on the account with my bank so I would not be charged. A few weeks ago I got a notice that I owe Gold's Gym $280 dollars. I called three times and left messages everytime. Noone returned my call. I had COVID in June and could not come in person. I recently had contact with someone else that has tested positive so I still am unable to go in person. I received ANOTHER noticed that I was charged another month of membership despite noone returning my calls or assisting me with my issues. I joined Golds in May on a no contract membership. Come June my husband got orders overseas and myself and our children were getting moved to a base where there were no Golds nearby. I put in my cancellation notice paperwork in July to them. However, they never cancelled it. I got in contact with Chris, the manager there in September after I had been charged for 2 months. He kept saying he'd look into it and never would. The girl who got my paperwork had quit right around then as well so I'm guessing it somehow got misplaced. I asked for them to cancel it- which took a month to do so so I was charged again. Then I asked for refunds as I had done what I was supposed to do, gotten in contact when I realized it hadn't, and still now in January I haven't gotten anything back. I lost over $100 with them not canceling and still charging me. My husband even went in to talk to Chris as he'd left a few months after I did and he told him he'd take care of it and of course never did. The gym itself wasn't bad- it's mostly the manager, Chris E., who was horrible. Between screwing up stuff when signing me up, putting himself as who brought me in even with me saying it was another girl who worked there, keeping resistance bands behind the counter and telling the employees people aren't allowed to use them, seeing how he treated and talked to other employees there, and then not even trying to help when I had problems when leaving. read more

For me, personally, the members and instructors make the gym. I bounce between several local Golds Gyms, and I have to say that the members here are by far the most welcoming. I've never had an issue, or see anyone else have an issue, when they take "someone else's spot" in a class. A+ for classes as a whole. My issue is the layout of the gym itself. I hate how everything feels so closed off, and how every piece of equipment I want to use seems to be spread out across multiple rooms. If they could knock down a few walls and put all of the weights in one room, it would make a world of a difference. Getting another squat rack and deadlift platform would also be HUGE (if space wasn't an issue). People tend to hog those two pieces of equipment, and there's really only one of each available. Everyone is great about working in with each other, but there's only so much that can be done when 3 people want the same piece of equipment. read more

My main gym. Hours suck on weekends, but you get what you pay for. Staff customer service is questionably for a few. I can recall an experience where I came to the gym, a female staff member sighed when I walked through the door, begrudgingly took my temperature and sat back down to continue to look at her phone without as much saying anything. Probably upset that she makes minimum wage, but during a pandemic every job is valuable. There for the weights, water under the bridge. Maybe if she jogged more on the treadmill she'd also be happier she can get that "runner's high" Most of the patrons wear masks and around the 9pm mark every weeknight the gym is fairly quiet to allow you to get to most pieces of equipment. Just how I like it. Socially distant treadmills and just a relaxed environment all around except for the occasionally high strung staff member. If customer service is required for you to be apart of a gym this isn't for you. Lifetime fitness in rockville has much better customer service, and an indoor spa, more equipment but is way pricier. If you're a gym goer who needs the bare minimum. For instance, I only use the barbells dumbbells, and treadmills for my workouts, then you can get by. Some treadmills need to be decommissioned as they rattle and shake violently while running on it. They have reduced the size of paper towels to cheaper crappier paper towels. This somehow is the biggest nuisance of all things at the gym for me. Staff doesn't wipe down equipment overnight (lets just say I've noticed sweat marks for days on some benches) so please ensure that you wipe down the equipment thoroughly before use, frequently use hand sanitizer, mask up. Sanitizing practices during Covid are a joke. read more

Quit after 14 years as a member due to lack of mask enforcement. My last day there a "member" wanted to fight me because I asked him to wear his mask while he was 3 ft. away. This was a terrible experience. I signed up for a personal training membership and they would not assign me to a personal trainer until I met for a "fitness consultation". It took a week to schedule that. The manager (maybe? I never actually got a title) sent me an email confirming an appointment with zero information and when I showed up he was confused about why I was there, even after I showed him the email that he sent me. He asked about my goals and experience so help "fit" me to a trainer and then assigned me to someone who didn't have the availability I asked for. My first training session was finally scheduled for three weeks after I signed up at the gym. But the worst part of all of this was the consistent upselling happening at every stage. Every single person I interacted with tried to get me into the bootcamp classes they offer - the only classes not included in my membership. This was pushed at me despite no one knowing my level of fitness or comfort with classes - or even if I was interested in classes at all or if I had health issues that would prevent me from taking these classes (which I do). When I called to cancel I was told that I couldn't cancel at this gym because I hadn't signed up at this location (I did sign up there). Then I was told I had to come in or email to cancel, despite my confirming that I could cancel by phone when I signed up. Then the trainer I was assigned to called and texted immediately trying to bully me into not cancelling my membership. So apparently once they have your money there's no rush to fulfill their side of the contact but the minute you try to cancel they have a serious sense of urgency. Way nicer than it looks from the outside. It is nicely located near 270 but is in a strip mall and looks very small. However, they must have bought all of the stores out because they took over most of the L shaped structure. While it is a bit weirdly set up as a result they do have everything that you need. Cardio does not have TVs at every machine it does have the up top big screens with audio at every machine. They have some cool video game style bikes and the big stair masters and lots of new stair master types that span different options. The weight rooms have everything and new as well. My only complaint there is that they don't have enough benches by the free weights. And because of the weird setup the machines are far. So you can't do one set of free weights and then easily/quickly jump to a machine weight. Staff is nice and parking ample. read more

While a few new pieces of equipment was added when Fitness First changed to Gold's, most of the older pieces are rickety or in need of repair. The women's bathroom has pink mold in the showers and the sauna is usually out of order once a month. The carpeting and mats are worn and could use a good cleaning. The worst part of the club is Jan the trainer. She is rude, obnoxious and childish. I have overheard her gossip about members of the club while she is training other members. I watched her purposefully stand in the way of a member doing free weights then laugh when the member got upset. Jan is a bully. read more

I joined last November and have enjoyed being a member ever since. It's reasonably priced and have been continually improving their equipment. Staff is generally hospitable and welcoming. The locker rooms are pretty nice with a sauna and plenty of locker space. There is a whole section dedicated to cardio with plenty of ellipticals, treadmills, and bikes. They also have a couple of all purpose rooms that give people privacy to work out and enough room to do free weights or do floor exercises. One thing that could be improved is better advertising of class schedules. read more

I had been going to the this for many years when it was still Fitness First. After the change over, there wasn't much of a noticeable change in the interior until I came back about a month ago and it looks like there were some significant upgrades to the place. I have been a gym rat for a long time. Always was trying out the latest plans and tweaking my own routine to see how best to maximize my results from my workouts. As I get older though I notice that a lot of things change biologically that now it seems time for some professional advice. In comes Chris who is a personal trainer at this fine establishment. I came in for a consultation and a workout and Chris was there to give me insight to things that I can improve upon as well as some new exercises that I could try in my weekly routine. He has a great concept of what it takes to push you to that next level but he also is able to explain the benefits and science behind his methodology. If you are looking for a trainer that knows his stuff and that will keep you motivated, give him a shot. I think you will find that it will be worth your while. Note: I think he would be great for beginners as well as seasoned gym goers. read more

I joined a few weeks ago and so far so good. The staff is friendly, the facility is large and clean, and there are plenty of machines and lots of rooms. The locker rooms is also spacious and one thing I really like is that there are large lockers near the cardio room (which is a massive room). It's perfect if you're stopping by for a short run and need a place to stash your bag without having to stop at the locker room. I was reading other reviews and was baffled by all the negative reviews. I haven't had any of those issues but I'll update if anything changes. Oh and I'm coming from planet fitness. This is soooo worth the price change. It's clean, the machines work, and it hasn't been packed yet. One thing I couldn't stand about the planet fitness is how packed it always was. I'd go on a Tuesday morning at 11 am and would barely find room in the Dumbell area and machines would be taken. read more

The layout of this gym is very snake-like. I agree with some of the reviewers that the gym could be a little more spacious. It is cool that each type of training (free weight, weight machines, cardio) has its own room or section of the gym, but when you go during any sort of busy period, you are kinda tripping over the other gym-goers. When I signed up for my membership....there was a bit of a misunderstanding between me and the guy who gave me my contract, and I thought I paid too much. I thought there was no chance I'd get any sort of positive response, so on a prayer, I messaged Emmanuel, the manager. Within 48 hours I had a cash refund of the difference between what I thought I was going to pay, and what I actually paid. Very understanding, and willing to work with me and I appreciated it greatly. A cool plus is the fact they even have a little extra space to do some training on your own in a more private/secluded fashion. Overall, this gym is fine for anyone off the street just looking to start a dedicated path of fitness. read more

This Golds is nice, they have a great amount of cardio machines so waiting is not necessary. They also have great classes and a super friendly staff!! I love the people who work in the kids club as well, they are so attentive of the kids and there is a window where you can peak and see what your children are up too. I'm a member of Gold's gym for the past 7 months. I have only been to the Germantown location three times. The front desk staff is horrible. They are not friendly and they seem to want to talk to each other then the members. They are always sitting on the counter and make it seem that you are bothering them if you ask a question. The classes are good they really good instructors. The customers seem snotty and unwelcoming. I think I rather work out at another location. But I live closer to this one. About to check out one of there boot camp class soon. read more

Just got the release from my doctor so I'm back at the gym. I started going to this gym when it was Fitness World, Fitness First and now Golds. Since taking over Golds made some improvements. There's a stretch room, a weight room, exercise room, an abs room, etc. I like this bc you no longer have to step over people as you walk through the gym to use the equipment. If you want to lay in the floor to stretch or work on your abs there's a room for that! I'm back in and ready to go. read more

I would give this gym zero stars if I could. I have never had such a bad customer service experience! I signed up and was locked into a two year contract. I came in summer of 2018 to cancel and thy told me I had to keep the membership. I filled out a cancelation form for my husbands account which was linked and thy assured me that in June 2019 the membership would be cancelled. Fast forward to July 2019 they charge me again. When I call in to ask why they tell me that they have no record of my cancellation. They make me come in and fill out in person another form to cancel. When I ask that I be refunded for July since I was told I would not be charged they said that they could not do anything!! They also informed me that I could have cancelled a while ago by paying an early cancellation fee, which no one told me at the time. Just terrible terrible customer service!!! read more

Customer service is hit or miss. Clean for the most part. Sauna room is convenient. The classes are great to take as well. Childcare is ok for older kids, not so much under 12 months. Their cardio machines aren't the greatest, but work most of the time. They have opened late several times which is the reason for the lack of stars. I work early so opening on time is important to me. There have been several times that it has been opened at 0545 vs 0500. Waste of my commute to this location and gym time. It has happened more than 3x in the last 3 months. But they're quick to charge your credit card for their services smh. read more
