The sales guy made me put money down and kept on asking me "are you really going to join or just using this to get a free week of gym?" I thought that was very disrespectful... The most poor led gym in the Richmond area, too bad you cannot leave 0 stars. Avoid this franchise at all costs. Their front desk informed me that I could cancel due to covid, their financial company declined my request. You could not get out of a contract there even if you died. You also cannot bring a guest with you, for $37.99 a month and you can't bring a guest with you? Meanwhile you can pay $10 a month at the hull street location + bring a guest (different owner) They are also contract only (atleast at the time I signed up). My experience with a personal trainer there was awful. He continuously had "school papers due" or "overslept", unprofessionalism at its finest. Lets not forget that they "credited accounts" during covid due to charging a payment while they were closed. They only allow you to use those credits on your golds gym anniversary or at the end of your contract. To me, that is a "good-bye gift". Everything about this gym is unprofessional. Currently awaiting a phone call back from golds gym at westchester commons. Save yourself the hassle and go elsewhere. read more

A lot of pluses BUT a huge minus too - First off, the gym itself is very lovely. Truly a great place to spend time in. I could stay here 2-4 hours easily, and I am usually not a "gym person." It has a pool, sauna, massage room, tanning, a woman's gym if you can't stand looking at the hot buff men anymore, a theater room, and a lot of treadmills and other machines to go around. Very new and pretty too. Actual gym gets 5 stars from me. Here is what I did not like: I had a guess pass from a friend who wanted me to go to the gym with her. It should have been a fast process, right? Wrong. It took like, 20-30 minutes and I had to put my credit card into on file for some weird reason in case I wanted to join. Right, you taking my credit card info before I even decide if I want to join or not will convince me. Not. Two I don't like their payment structure. Either a contract or month to month, but their month to month is *auto renewal* for some reason, and to quit you need to pay for an extra month before you do for some reason. Why can't you truly do it month to month without auto pay? "Because then you would need to renew your membership every month"- uh, don't you already have all of my info on file? If I can do the month to month no commitment thing with my phone, why can't I do it at the GYM? Makes no sense. I've been torn about this in general, but I think that since I had this experience with them, even though I truly love the gym itself, I just can't do a membership. Couple that with things that I read online that it's very hard to get out of a contract or even month to month and that you need to either close your bank account or change countries to stop them from billing you, I think I will pass. read more

I wish I could give this gym zero stars. These big name chain gyms are complete scams and are run by a bunch of kids who are taught only to sign people up, take their credit cards, and nothing else. I've had issues from day one. I transferred from another Golds and was told my other membership would automatically cancel...not the case! I was charged in two places and had to pay an extra month at the other gym because I didn't give a 30 day notice I was transferring gyms. I tried to cancel my personal training sessions because my trainer spent half the time setting up and talking, ended the sessions early, forgot two of our sessions, double booked me for one, and duplicated a workout for two of the four sessions I did. My trainer said my missed training sessions would float over into the next month, but thats also not true!  I couldn't cancel because I didn't give a 30 day notice... so I was out $600 for 4 shitty training sessions. When I tried to cancel my membership after I found out I got a job in another state and nobody in the gym knew how to do so! They didn't even know how to pull up my contract so I could see it! It took me a week just to get an email address to their billing company, Taft Services of Culpeper, and they wouldn't cancel without a 30 day proof of a utility bill and change of address (which they didn't need to sign me up!). I'm a travel nurse so I wouldn't have to an actual lease or utility bill to my name because I'm in temporary housing, but they wouldn't take my job contract or pay stub as proof of moving. I had to go through the process of getting my sister's apartment in my name. After I did that and sent proof to Taft Services they said it would take 30 days to process, so I will still have to pay the next month until my cancellation is processed. I have  not been to this gym since June and they are still making me pay. I am so incredibly upset by how much money this gym has stolen from me. I work hard for my money and I've been working so hard to cancel this membership. Gold's Gym and Taft Services should be absolutely ashamed. I will be filing a claim with the Better Business Bureau. read more

Clean gym. Great staff. Lots of equipment. Wish they had a full basketball court but still a great place.

This is a great gym. However, the cleanliness of the gym is less than desired. This franchise of Gold's uses spray bottles and cloth rags for cleaning of equipment after use. I can only imagine how much bacteria is being spread from one machine to another with these rags. It would be very beneficial if you did away with the rags and installed paper towel dispensers/or sanitary wipe stations to wipe the equipment off with. That way you are not using a germ filled rag to wipe down equipment. You would make a lot of members happy and actually want to wipe down equipment after use as they will not be scared to touch a dirty wet rag. read more

The staff was very nice in the beginning. The facility is nice. But as everyone seems to say is true, you cannot get out of your membership. When I joined with a free membership trial, I explained my situation with a chronically sick daughter who just suffered a spinal cord injury, I was not sure if I commit financially and time wise, but I was assured I could cancel with a 30 day notice. I have tried two times and was told I had to pay a $50 fee. They still charged me, than I was told I could freeze my account, which I did. I than even submitted a letter from my doctor stating the reasons I could not continue - by this time the contract was almost two years old and I STILL CANNOT CANCEL! read more

I was a good friend of the assistant manager of this job I have been going there for two years now and have been lied to many times . DO NOT TRUST THIS GYM!! EVEN IF THEY GIVE YOU A SIGNED CARD SAYING YOU CAN CANCEL ANY TIME. I was given a form upon signing up for my membership that said I could cancel at any time! I called and canceled....back in November!! I was a full-time nursing student working part-time at hospital. I had no time to go to the gym, and no money to spare for a membership I wasn't using. Ever since November I have been receiving emails repeatedly claiming I owed them money! I spoke with Chris (the one who signed me on) on THREE SEPERATE occasions and every time he told me "oh just pay this month and then you'll be done." Every. Single. Time. I was charged again and again. I have called four times requesting to speak to the manager, and every time I was told that he would return my call the next day. I have yet to hear from him. I have been calling for two months. I finally made them delete my card. But now I'm receiving harassing email saying I know money. Not only was I lied to about being able to cancel worry free, but I was lied to three more times by Chris. And then four more times by every employee who answered the phone and said that they would have the manager return my call. Do yourself a favor, do not go to this gym. Go to the YMCA. At least then they will cancel no questions asked. read more

Went to try it out, and they make you join and put money down to get the "trial membership." When we decided to join American Family Fitness instead, they didn't refund the enrollment fee like they said they would if we canceled within 7 days. Still trying to get reimbursed and having to go through credit card company now to make it happen. Gym was ok, but service was awful. read more

I have been a member of this Gym for over 2 yrs, I looked at other in the area and none of them compare especially for the value pricing, and 24 hr access Monday-Friday (my only wish is it was 24hrs in the weekends as well) Christian my rep when signing up has been very helpful on tips to stay in tip top shape as well. read more

The gym itself is really nice and are clean but the tanning beds are disgusting. I pay and extra $10 a month for tanning and though that is a cheap price for tanning, it is not worth the experience. The bulbs will be burned out for a while before they are replaced (an indication that they may not be replaced frequently) and they always look like they haven't been cleaned except for people who use the disinfecting spray (intended for the workout machines) to clean it themselves. Also, I do not think that it is very safe that they do not require people to wear eyewear in the beds. Additionally, the process of trying to cancel your membership is cumbersome. My first attempt failed when I called the gym and asked what the procedure is for canceling and was given an invalid email address to contact. The second time, I was told that I needed to contact the billing manager who was actually helpful. She forwarded my request to Taft to end my membership but then notified me that though I would have to pay for the current month (understandably) it would take 30 days to process. This apparently meant that even though it would be over 30 days from the current months auto pay withdrawal from my account, I would have to pay for the following month as well. To me it does not make sense that I would have to continue to pay for a membership that I canceled because their billing company is slow at processing account closings. Maybe it is time for them too look for someone else to do their billing... read more

I have been a member of this gym for a LONG time......probably since it opened. Greg is the glue that holds this place together, honestly. I'm not sure what's been going on lately with turnover of staff, etc., but if he doesn't get some accolades soon, I fear people will leave. The other "managers", literally sit on their phones, dress as if they are in a pick up bar and have no interest in the clientele. Not sure who is sleeping with who, but Greg is the only professional in management there. I have seen a decline in overnight cleaning (water bottle holders are often filled with paper, etc.), but the daytime cleaning staff is ALWAYS hard at work. The person who "fixes" the broken machines needs to concentrate on THEM and not the people on the machines. I'm glad to see improvements under way. As for classes? Most are great! Jennifer Clemmons, Alison (yoga and cycle), and the new butt blaster instructor are awesome. They can all keep a beat, which is HUGE for an instructor. The other? Hmmmmm. I have yet to see the director of classes IN a class that I've taken, and I usually take at least 3 a week. If you need a marketing person, call me. I'm also glad to see the trainers actually working of late!!! New training director is OUT there and seems to be doing her job! Seeing her ON the floor AND talking one on one behind her desk is a plus! But please, have those broken machines fixed and/or replaced. The stair master is a law suit waiting to happen!!! If I could leave this place zero stars I would. I am a member at planet fitness (they are great by the way) and I went into golds tonight to do a class with my cousin who is a member. My cousin did warn me that they were really pushy and sneaky and they sign you up for Contacts that you don't even know you're signing up for, but I was not prepared for what I encountered at my visit with golds. As I filled out the waiver, which was probably just a way to get all of my information, I was bum barded by endless amounts of pushy sales techniques that didn't take no for an answer. they also took my ID and refused to give it back to me saying that I can only pick it up after the class was over. After the class I go down to retrieve my ID and the girl says they need to locate it, well honey you better locate it because I need my ID. After me giving her death stare for a solid 20 seconds she goes to the drawer and retrieves my now located ID placing it on the counter saying that I can't take it until the person I talked to earlier hands it to me. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I had to sit there and stare at my ID and wait for someone named Clayton to come and give me another sales pitch before I was finally able to take my own property and leave. This place sucks!!! read more

Horrible customer service! I've been a loyal gold's gym member for several years and when I had to disconnect membership, the process is long and cumbersome. I was charged for several more months due to the misleading information that were given to me. When I called, I was told to talk to the person who gave me the misleading information instead of trying to make it right for the customer! The person who I spoke with before probably did not even check my membership drafting information and therefore, gave me the wrong info which leads me to having to pay for 2 more months of membership which I cannot even use. So disappointing! Be aware and make sure you read all the fine prints before you sign up! Also, if you are interested in the kids program, their program is very limited and their kids zone hours is also very limited. Swimming pool is very small. read more

I Love the gym its self but the hole contract thing is so stupid. Any other gym I've been to their was no contract. When I first signed up I wasn't told I was signing up for a two year contract didn't stat it in the paper work and the guy didn't inform me. I tired to cancel and you have to pay the reaming balance off before you can cancel. Well they also said that when you move 25 miles our more from the gym you can cancel it with out having to pay the balance and I moved like a month ago and in order to save money I was going to cancel and they wouldn't except any of my proof of a new address. I sent my lease and a couple bills and they wouldn't except any of it. so now im stuck with it. I hate with a passion the billing company they go through. They are all a bunch of idiots there. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO GOLDS GYM! read more
