I was very hesitant to try milk tea from restaurants because i have a very peculiar way of making my tea (basically just drowning it with sugar) lol but i have a friend of mine that kept prying me to try Gong Cha. Every time i saw her, she had a drink from Gong Cha, so i slowly became influenced and decided, why not? I ordered a Classic Milk Tea with no bubble and it was actually a LOT better than i expected. It exceeded my expectations! They asked me the amount of sugar, milk, and ice i would like in it. Me being a fatty asked for 50% for everything and it was amazing! It's $4.25 for a large. You can also make a rewards account (im not sure how it works since i was busy sucking down my drink instead of listening) or you can ask them for a stamp card. You have to specifically ask them if you can get one because they dont hand it out unless you ask. Ever since my first milk tea from here, i have to say ive been here like.. 20 times in the past month lol I have yet to try other drinks but my friend assures me that the next one she highly recommends is the Taro Milk Tea. 20/10 stars! Is this how Gong Cha treat their customers? I went to Gong Cha with my friend today and when I ordered with my free stamp card, she was constantly checking her phone to the point that she completely messed up my order. I had to repeat myself 3 times in order for her to get it right. Right after I ordered, my friend also ordered her drink and she used a stamp card to redeem a free drink. She had accumulated stamps from other locations. However, the cashier not only gave her a weird look, but she also asked her where she got those cards from and that it was mad sus. Is that how you treat your customers? Her tone is not the least bit kind and she made it sound like we stole the cards from Gong Cha. Where would we even steal it from? And when I questioned why she was asking, she said it was for her boss. Is that what Gong Cha bosses train their employees to say to customers? Also, there was this one time where I had to catch the bus, but I ordered from them and they finished making the drink, but they didn't bother to give the drink to me at all. One employee was checking their phone, the other was singing, and one other one was sitting down. They have time to do all these things but not give me my drink? How do they expect customers to be loyal if they're going to nickel and dime us? Inconsistent practice in the span of 5 minutes! I redeemed my stamp card for a free drink valued at $5 so I got a $4.25 drink and got two toppings at 50¢ each. I should be only paying 25¢ out of pocket but they charged me $1 saying toppings are not included in the stamp card. Nowhere does the stamp card say "toppings not included", $5 is $5. When I asked about it, they even had the nerve to say, "You actually still owe us 8¢ in tax but we're nice enough to waive it." 1) Unprofessional 2) One month ago everything was inclusive! THEN, while I was waiting for my drink, another customer redeemed his stamp card and I saw the cashier (different person than the one who rang me up) did NOT charge him for his 50¢ topping. I asked the manager what was going on and the staff talked among each other like headless chickens for 5 minutes before telling me they should've charged the guy for his topping. Someone wasn't paying attention during training and/or someone didn't train their staff properly... And did I mention how unprofessional they were? I asked for 50% ice and aiyu jelly but instead I got an ice-less warm drink with coconut jelly! This is not the case with all Gong Cha because I have been to the one on the upper East side and it was fine. They offer a wide variety of flavors including the classics, but is the only place that I know that offers Earl Grey bubble tea! This particular location is quite popular as it's located inside the food court of New World Mall. I guess I'm an all-or-nothing sort of gal. I first tried this Taiwanese tea chain in Hong Kong, was not impressed, but then was drawn by their intriguing Top 10 list (posted in English, heh heh) at Flushing's New World Mall. Within a week, I had somehow tried 6 of Gong Cha's drink offerings. Yikes. 1. Lemon ai yu with white pearl: Fantastic. I'll always prefer milk teas to fruity drinks, but I can't deny that everything about this just worked. It's also a delight to find ai yu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aiyu_jelly), a unique jelly made by rubbing together the seeds of a variety of fig. I don't know how "real" this ai yu is, though, since the jelly turns back into liquid within a few days, and I've never seen fresh ai yu outside of Taiwan. 2. Milk foam green tea: I guess they don't want to scare people the way Happy Lemon (http://www.yelp.com/biz/happy-lemon-flushing) does by calling it "salted cheese milk tea." But the cream here is indeed very thick and very salted. A little too salted. Delicious nonetheless. 3. Lychee oolong tea: It was okay. Really sweet. The oolong was nice but I'm affected by a bias against lychee-flavored things. 4. Lemon wintermelon tea with basil seeds: Just like chia seeds, basil seeds form a gel coating when submerged in liquid (somewhat firmer than chia seeds). I love it. Just like the lemon ai yu drink, the lemon here is bits of candied lemon peel. The wintermelon tea itself was okay, too sweet. 5. Earl grey milk tea with 3P's (Pearls, Pudding, and P...Herbal jelly - some places say P's, some say J's): My drink was mysteriously missing the tapioca pearls, but I was happy with the faintly sweet pudding and grass jelly. The earl grey was too diluted. 6. Black milk tea with herbal jelly: The grass jelly is subtle and wonderful, but this drink confirmed that their basic black tea is more watery, less flavorful, and just not as good as their green teas. I got all of these drinks with 70% sugar and "light" ice (note: wintermelon tea likely comes from a mix, so sugar level can't be adjusted). Thank you, hyper-customizable Taiwanese bubble tea culture! Stuffed in the corner of the New World Mall food court, they don't seem to get as much patrons as Kung Fu Tea across the hall. However, I'm a fan of Gong Cha simply because of the superior tea quality and tea toppings offered. My favorite on a hot stuffy New York summer day is the "lemon ai-yu jelly with white pearl" (on the top 10 list). It's light, refreshing, and relatively healthy compared to the typical buble tea. The "white pearl" used here is actually agar jelly, not the typical starchy tapioca (the nerdos can google it - agar basically = tasty balls of soluble fiber). I usually get my drinks with less ice and less sugar, and they don't skimp on the ingredients, which I appreciate. The big surprise is that the "lemon" in the drink is actually lovely bits of candied lemon peel, which adds another textural component with a zing. LOVE! The other popular option is the "Earl grey milk tea with 3J's" - the latter not referring to an Asian pop boy band, but egg pudding, herbal jelly, and black pearl/boba/tapioca balls (beats me why they make the Js). It' a perfectly decadent and filling drink, made quite well. For Gong Cha, I'll brave the hungry crowd in the food court to get my cup of tea. read more

Gong Cha is always one of my favorite bubble tea places, and I especially like this location. Hidden inside the food court on the lower level of New World Mall, it looks a little shabby but is high quality. Service is attentive and friendly, and the barista was kind enough to give me extra foam even though my Yelp check-in was glitching. (On that note, remember to check in on Yelp for free extra milk foam!) Gong Cha's milk foam is one of my favorites: buttery, creamy, and just slightly salty. It's not too heavy or too light, but perfectly balanced. Pull your straw up and sip the tea through the cream to really taste it, or mix it all together for a lighter milk tea. As with other Gong Cha locations, you're able to customize your sweetness and ice levels here. If it's your first time, I highly recommend their Earl Grey! Prices are low to mid-range, with a milk foam green tea costing me $3.75. I love that they take card here without a minimum. If I lived closer to Flushing, I'd certainly be here all the time. read more

I ordered a milk tea with herbal jelly (be sure to check in to get a free topping)! With the yelp check-in, I was able to get free herbal jelly in my drink. Gong Cha is near the top of my list of fave bubble tea places. They don't try to do a ton of different things - their menu is smaller than your usual bubble tea shop, but the taste and quality is superior. They always ask you to customize your ice and sugar level, so you get your drink exactly the way you want it. I like the boba and the coconut jelly here also - the textures are just right. The tea tastes real and doesn't have that powdery aftertaste. Also, every Gong Cha location I've been to accepts credit card without a minimum. Huge plus because I rarely have cash. The only thing I don't love is the milk foam in the Milk Foam Tea series. It tastes very sour on it's own and doesn't seem to mix very well with the tea. They make a big deal about the milk foam but I personally dislike it. I stick with the normal Milk Tea series! read more

Love, love, love Gong Cha!!! First time I saw Gong Cha when I was watching via Eat Your Kimchi on Youtube.. and I regretted not visiting Gong Cha when me and my dad were visiting Seoul in 2012.. And I was badly craving for one....... T.T I am so happy they finally opened in New World Mall food court! There are several bubble tea shops inside, but Gong Cha is the best to pair while dining with Chinese/Taiwanese food. I tried Kung fu tea but it tastes slightly sour to me despite 100% sweet, and T-baar is not that outstanding to me. Gong Cha all the way when I am inside New World Mall. :D I love the milk tea foam green tea and milk foam black tea in 50% sugar, less ice mode. Dad loves their iced green tea with tapioca balls. Being a coffee addict, I still have yet to try their milk coffee/milk foam coffee series. Just saw on Yelp that you guys also have Manhattan branch. I have never.. and I mean never in all my years had ANYTHING that tasted like the coffee that I had from gong cha. At first glance this is a regular bubble tea place with regular tapioca pearls and assorted teas. But at closer examination of the menu, I noticed something called milk foam... And I'm like huh?? What is milk foam? Is it froth? Like on a cappuccino? NO. No, it is milk foam.. And it is glorious! Milk foam is the consistency of homemade whipped cream with an airiness like I've never tasted, and it's not really sweet.. I still don't fully understand milk foam but that doesn't stop me from enjoying the hell out of it! So... now that you've heard my milk foam obsession rant, let's get back to business. The tea, coffee, or juice(?) are fully customizable -- you choose how much ice (less, regular, lots), how sweet (30%, 50%, 100%), and any additions (milk foam (ahhhh), tapioca, pearl tapioca...) I once visited this establishment and had a good experience so I made my way back today. Both tea orders were screwed up. I asked for no sugar and i was given enough syrup to revive a dead diabetic. One of the teas was missing the jelly I paid for. This was a total loss since I threw both teas in the garbage. How do you have about 5 people working and you can't manage one order??? If you ever gone to a high school bathroom this place will give the nostalgic blast from the past with smell bathrooms of highschool. And the brown sugar milk tea is NOT it. The drink came out already brown, but all I think is that they are only trying to hide the fact that they do not go with the original receipt. Extremely disappointed with this Gong Cha. Gong Cha is a highly known chain across Asia so I decided to give this one a shot. I was also getting bored with my usual Kung Fu milk tea and was hoping to find a good substitute. I got the Earl Grey Tea with milk foam, and it was probably one of the worst milk teas I've ever had. It becomes really questionable when I feel like I can conjure up a better drink. The milk foam tasted almost salty (perhaps the person making the drink was inexperienced?) and it was oddly just floating on top of my lukewarm tea drink. Not pleasant. read more

Despite the ongoing pandemic, the safety practices here are cringeworthy. The cashier was handling money and then continued to make drinks. People get sick like that. But that wasn't even the worst of it. The cashier dropped 2 cups and still picked it up and washed it for a second. Then proceeded to use the washed cups. This is exactly how people get sick. This was weird because I knew I had enough in my card to pay for the drinks but I thought to myself maybe it's their card machine that wasn't working. I ended paying with cash since apparently all 3 swipes didn't go through. The next day, I check my bank account and I saw there were 3 identical charges from Gong Cha for a total for $36.75. I called the store and got in contact with the manager, who assured me that the IT staff would fix the issue. However, that was the last I heard from him and never got any of the money back. This is my favorite bubble tea store. The tea is taste good and have fully tea taste. I think it is because they use actual tea leafs. I love their green tea the most.
