A bit pricey for the area: $20 to 25 for an entree, about $20 for pasta and $12 to $14 for a pizza but this is Sackets Harbor after all. The staff and room are really welcoming, the wood oven across the bar really helps to set the nice atmosphere. They have a decent choice of wines by the glass and draft beers so that's a plus. The food is not out of this world but the ingredients appear to be fresh and the flavor combinations are a bit interesting and well executed. A good place to spend a nice relaxing evening. read more

IT'S OPEN. My last update, "Goodfellos is closed," and photo showing the Seized sign apparently "violated guidelines" and were removed from here. Which is fine because I was getting ready to update again to let people know that it's now open again. But I'm not a big fan of having my face listed in the filtered reviews section as "deleted for violating guidelines." But that's my gripe with Yelp, not Goodfellos. I'm looking forward to frequenting Goodfellos again because I still like their Classic Salad and their pizzas are good. My previous review: 10/13/11 So now that fall is upon us, it seems like Goodfellos is one of the few places still open. By now I've been here a good 5-6 times and tried a few of the dishes that I can safely say the food is good. But I will amend to say that the prices are bit high. The first time I was here for food I must have gotten an abnormally large portion so I figured even though a bit pricey, I'm still bringing home a good portion for another meal. But since I've been back, nothing has been that large of a portion. Most recent visit was for two, I got a pasta dish and my friend got a pizza. Once you add in a martini (special of the day) for me and a glass of wine for him, which then turn into a bottle for the both of us, the bill was excess of $70. Over $90 once you add in tips. I guess my bone to pick with Goodfellos is mainly the service. It's good, but it's not, at the same time. The person behind the bar greeting you to take you to the table is so nice and attentive. The server coming by to take your order is a bit less. Sometimes we'd sit for over 15 minutes with an empty glass and still no one. Other times, we'd get asked over and over if we wanted another while still more than half full. And the $5 martini special ring up as $6.50 on the bill, while the $7 glass of wine rings up also as $6.50. *scratches head* I've ordered the 1/2 size Classic Salad for one person before and gotten a huge portion. Yet when I order the full size salad for pick up, it was literally a tiny bit more than the 1/2 size (but double the price!) plus I had no dressing. When I called back to ask if I was supposed to ask for dressing the person on the phone was dismissive in attitude, like it was my fault that I didn't check to see if my salad came with dressing before leaving the restaurant. I did order the 1/2 size salad again recently - and sure enough, it's only a bit smaller than the full size portion, but at half the price. But once winter hits, I'm sure I'll hit this place up often when I'm in the area because it does have a homey atmosphere. Plus that giant brick oven doesn't hurt either. read more

I'm a kid but we go here every few weeks for this thing called Wednesday wine night were you get free wine on Wednesdays or something like that. Do know what is really fun? Do this. Park your car at the street mill creek lane. Then run the sidewalk down to it. The wait isn't that long and if you need to take a break when you get there, there is a bench outside and a menu above it. But it is mostly used for smoking cigarettes because the wait is so short. I'd like to preface this review with the fact that I worked as a waitress in the food industry for over 10 years and realize that we are in a current state where I realize help is in short supply. We Walked in and it was a 40 minute wait which was ok because we were content to sit at bar. After 40 minutes we asked hostess the status and she said 20 more min which was still ok. We finally were seated and since we were at the bar, we had opportunity to look at menu to know our selections. We were ready to order completely when waitress came over which we did. Waited over half hour for salad to come out. After an hour we waited for our dinner and finally left. I asked to speak to manager in the meantime but none could be found. I kindly and simply stated since if dinner wasn't there in 5 minutes after an hour wait we were leaving because everyone around us had eaten and were leaving. This is not the first time this has happened however this is my first time writing a review. i was in the food service industry for many years and many of my friends own restaurants yet this was ridiculous. We will not be going back sadly. My son is in the military and hasn't been home in 2 years and we tried to treat him to a nice dinner but this restaurant failed epically. Absolutely delicious!!!! We enjoyed ourselves from start to finish! Waited at the bar for a table and I had the most refreshing sangria. It was light but delicious and an awesome sized glass. I really hate skimpy cocktails. Once we got to the table, we met the best waitress ever named Alison. She was hysterical and just added to our dining experience. Started off with the bruschetta. I read other reviews that said this was worth coming alone and they were right. I mean, it's just bread, cheese, tomato and some balsamic, yet it's one of the best things I have ever tasted. I could go back and eat that as my meal and leave happy. Thankfully we didn't do just that though because dinner was phenomenal. My husband had a seafood special that was delicious and I had the Crostacei alla Good Fellos at the suggestion of Alison. OMG. It was freaking delicious and I wish I could have licked the plate. The deck was cozy and I just enjoyed everything about our visit. Instead of driving to Syracuse for a special dinner, we will start coming to Sackets Harbor instead. read more

Reminds me of a NYC mom and pop fancy cozy Italian restaurant from the '60's. Get the Formaggio Cotto. Penne with a cheesy cream sauce, sun dried tomatoes, spinach, kalamata olives, pine nuts and bubbly baked cheese on top. Crazy good. Pasta e piselli: pasta, peas, prosciutto, creamy sauce. I ordered take out today and was told it would be ready in 30mins. I arrived and asked if my order was ready and was told no so I stood waiting at the door for 20mins still no food and no one checking on my order. I asked the host if he knew when my order might be ready and he then asked other employees all of which had no idea. I was then told Tracy took my order and was handling it. My pizza was brought out first cold and wet so I asked about the appetizers which I was assured were just finished but were also cold and wet and my other meal was missing. The waitress came back and told me no one told her I was there and she took $10 off as a curtesy. I paid for my food and the waitress tried to hand me a piece of paper with her info telling me I could call tomorrow and she would make it right which I refused because if you wanted to make it right then you might want to do that the day of instead of having the customer contact you at a later date to do the right thing. Pizza selection amazing but pricey for the size ($12-$19) for what would be considered a medium-sized pizza. Having said that, I ordered the Supreme ($16) and Iced Tea ($2.50). Stayed at Goodfellos in the upstairs hotel for 4 nights. Room was spacious and had a hot tub in addition to the shower. Fridge and sink included in the room. Old historic building with high ceilings and tall windows made it seem even more spacious. Room decoration is a bit dated and could use some upgrading but functionally everything worked. Room had a ceiling fan but owner was in process of upgrading rooms with A/C while I was there, so you will benefit from that. This is a small hotel and owner directly manages. He was able to accommodate my early check-in and late check-out with no problem, and he will respond to your calls for any room issues 24/7. Of course I ate dinner downstairs at the pizzeria. Always a pleasure to dine there and experience good Italian-American fusion cuisine. Good mix of ambiance, with a bar that is lively but not too crazy. Good for families and I would say all ages, really. Was a bit confusing at first to get into and out of the hotel. The entrances to the rooms are not from within the restaurant-- you must go around to the opposite side of the building. There you will see a double-door with a small lobby. The lobby needs a bit of renovation and the hotel could use some exterior signage to help direct people to the hotel rooms. Overall, a nice experience, and the convenience (on Main St.) cannot be matched if your destination is the wonderful and historic Village of Sackets Harbor! read more

Went here for dinner last night around 8, even though it was late the staff was friendly. We ordered the garlic cheesy bread as an appetizer and a pizza for the main course. The pizza was so cheesy it was melting off the slice which made the meal 10x better. Definitely the best pizza in the area. Plus our waitress, Morgan, was delightful. We initially went to Sackets Harbor, or as I like to call it, Sackets Hahbuh for some seafood place. We got there and found out the place was closed for the season so we ended up at this place. Now, we walked in (I was with some locals), and I was excited to see the wood fired oven. I thought, "Mmmm pretty classy, Sacket Harbor". It kinda went the opposite of classy from that point on. So, I noticed this place advertised itself as a wine bar, or maybe the locals I was with said it was a wine bar. I don't recall due to hunger but somewhere along the line someone mentioned wine bar. They literally had about 16 different wines, the majority of them overpriced and from California. I asked for Zinfandel and the server immediately told me they were out of pink wine. I'm assuming she meant White Zinny and seeing as how I despise the Zinny I was little offended that she would assume I'd drink that. On to the food. One of the people in our party asked for lasagna withouth mushrooms, but he was informed the lasagna was pre-made with the mushrooms. I ordered a pasta with shrimp and calamari which was actually pretty good and had a good amount of shrimp. The server brought our dishes out, and as I waited for the freshly grated parmesan cheese, I came to the realization that the freshly grated parmesan cheese wasn't happening as she dropped off our dishes and left. We started tearing into our meals and she came over and realized she hadn't offered us cheese. I thought, "Redemption, girl". I waited for her to bring the cheese over and then it happened. She brought over the powdered deal. Yea, that green can stuff. The stuff you get in packets at the pizza joints. Never would I ever expect this at an actual casual dining restaurant. GFs deserves its 4/5 stars. However, the management does not understand the purpose of reservations. Three years now they have taken a reservation and have failed to seat us without a half to a full wait. This year we made the reservation for 7 adults and three children at a table outside. Two adults arrived early to make certain we would be seated on time. The hostess was readying the table. Eight people arrived and the Manger gave our table to her friends, She told our s outing party there would be Wait of half to a full hour. We will miss GFs for our annual summer family dinner. While I had a reservation for one at the bar at Tin Pan Galley, my ears were bleeding when I walked past. Therefore, I kept walking and Good Fellos promise of brick-oven pizza and wine was, well, irresistable. The restaurant was packed, but, fortunately, there was a single seat available in the middle of the bar. The food was good but the service was absolutely atrocious. I'm a waitress and a bartender so I give servers a lot of slack because I know how stressful it can be but this was just over the line. There were two of us, me and my boyfriend we were out for our anniversary. We started out by asking the waiter what non alcoholic beverages they had because the menus we were given only had wines on it and I'm not old enough to drink, he told us they 'don't have any of those' so I said we'll have waters. But the table next to us had ice teas and lemonades so when he came back I asked for a pink lemonade which he brought to me which was weird because he said they didn't have any non alcoholic beverages, but we kind of ignored it. We got two steaks and a chicken Caesar salad, pretty simple right? I guess not because it took 45 minutes for the salad to come out and an hour and a half for our steaks, no I'm not kidding. We ate and when I asked to see a manager I was told there "wasn't one on Monday's" so we paid and left. We later came back to get a piece of cake I heard one of the other servers talking about because it sounded good. I went in and picked it up and asked the bartender if there would be a manager on the next day that I could call, she then told me that there was a manager on shift today and I could talk to him if I like (so we were blatantly lied to). So the manager came out and I told him that the food was good but the service really ruined our meal, I also explained that I'm a waitress so I know how stressful it can be but an hour and a half for two steaks and 45 minutes for a salad was a little ridiculous, and this is the part that really got me, he looked me in the face and told me "what do you want me to do about it" and then proceeded to explain how their restaurant is "going through a shit time right now" (so he cursed to me, which you should NEVER do do a customer, especially one who's being extremely kind and understanding, keep in mind I didn't care about a refund I just wanted them to know because feedback is good) He proceeded to talk down to me as if I was stupid, asking over and over again what I expect him to do, shutting down every statement I threw at him even when I told him that I don't expect him to do anything but accept the criticism and take the feedback. I took my cake and left getting into my car in tears because this man had just made me feel completely useless as a human being, and talked to me as if I wasn't an adult. This isn't so much about the food, but more about the service. When you go there, they have very, very tight seating. One night my family got 3 or 4 pizzas there - their specialty, right? They were not hot and so someone from our party told them so. The manager came over and said, and I am not paraphrasing, "So, what do you want me to do about it?" - Well, it's like this - You run the place, you are supposed to be the one who tells me what you are willing to do about it. Want to know what I did about it? I stopped going there and tell other people to do the same. The food is okay, the atmosphere is too loud, too cramped, and frankly over-priced and over-rated! We've been here a few times in the past and the food is excellent. However, our visit today was marred by very poor and inattentive service. Our waitress, A****l disappeared at one time for over a half an hour. A drink order went unfilled and after seeing people who had come in well after us, eating their entrees, I approached our waitress and got the "deer in headlights" look because it was then clear she had forgotten to place our order. She tried to cover saying they were up in 4 minutes, and after another 15 we had our entire order and apps and drink fairly well all at the same time. The place was not very busy, yet the manager who seated us at 1pm never seemed to notice that at 2:15 we were still sitting their looking around trying to make eye contact with someone to help us. The server, of course, took no ownership at all, which was unfortunate. I spoke to the manager on the way out, and while she professed concern and sadness that she had not known; I had to remind her that nobody had ever come to check on us. My first problem was the experienced bar tender was rude, she stared at me a few times as I sat at the bar and never took my drink order, a second bartender whom was in training finally came my way and starting serving me. The bartender in training was very nice and professional but I did not care for the bartender that was training her, she even seemed rude to her coworker that she was training. Second, I came here because of the good pizza reviews but was disappointed and the pizza did not live up to the reviews. I travel weekly and have eaten all kinds of pizza, I love anything from frozen pizza to Neapolitan pizza so I am fairly easy to please, but this place... has trash pizza. They prepare the pizza in the open near the bar and look to have a nice enough wood oven, but their pizza was very basic, comparable to a bowling alley quality pizza.
