I highly recommend Good Fortune in Scottsdale to anyone who likes Chinese food! We hosted a birthday luncheon for around 30 people there for my husband's 70th celebration. It went swimmingly. We had a catered buffet and the food was delicious, something for everyone! Linda was the manager and our server extraordinaire, and I can't say enough good things about her. She helped me plan the food and setting details ahead of time, coordinated the set-up and execution and worked like the Energizer bunny to make sure we had every little thing we needed the whole time. Linda also helped me choose a safe and scrumptious meal for myself, as I am gluten-free. Kudos to her amazing staff also, for their hard work, skills and cheerful helpfulness! The restaurant is very attractive and spick-and-span, and the backroom was perfect for our party, plenty of room (plus extra) for everyone. If you need a place for a date, family dinner or group celebration, I think you will be as happy as we were. We will return! read more

We order the food (wor wonton, mixed vegetables) for delivery. The food comes with a box of white rice and fried noodles and fortune cookies and a very pretty bag that you can reuse for lunch. The mixed vegetables dish is made with a lot of Asian vegetables that we like. The sauce is very simple but excellent to our taste ! The food is pretty good for the Scottsdale area and for the money. The restaurant is massive and clean. Service was very good. The odd part was that on a Friday night, they were basically empty. The wife said that is never a good sign. Food: oh boy.. - Hot and Sour soup was nice and spicy, best part of the meal. - Egg Roll tasted like it was frozen/premade and just thrown in the fryer. Zero taste, but perfectly fried. Inside didn't look like it was handmade. - Beef tasted like it was boiled. The texture was like nothing I have ever had in a Chinese restaurant. It was odd to say the least. - Chicken, well just like the beef, it did not taste like it was prepared in a wok. Tasted boiled and looked like it was well. - Rice was very sticky, again unlike we have ever had before. Overall: I am not sure what's going on in the kitchen, but everything that was coming out was just plain odd texture and taste to every Chinese dish prepared in a restaurant we have had in 40+ years. Food is lower than mediocre. Ordered pan fried pot stickers/dumplings. Large dumplings but very dry. General Tso's chicken. Fair. Ordered it mild but came with a bit of a bite. Large portion enough for two people plus leftovers. The worst was the Beef HoFun. I can't stand when they use some sort of tenderizer in the cheap meat to "soften" it up. Meat was beige-ish gray in color, not dark brown. First bites you could tell this was cheap meat with a pre-digested type of texture. As it sat there it tasted like it was self destructing. Service was OK. Sitting outside was a nice evening. But I doubt I'd return. Food quality isn't up to par. read more

Relatively new addition to the Scottsdale/north Phoenix food scene. Sadly Good Fortune adds little value to the area's persistent food desert. Good Fortune does compare favorably against its nearest rival Dynasty. Good Fortune's menu features only the barest basics of American-Chinese cuisine. Quality seemed to consist of mass-produced, pre-prepared foods from commercial vendors. Hot and sour soup was gelatinous--likely from a can or mix with out shrimp, chicken, beef, or pork. Crab Rangoon were from a box, and the egg rolls were mushy, clearly having been frozen before being fried. Service was efficient. Atmosphere was sterile and unappealing. Place settings were diner-like and no chopsticks unless requested. Clearly, Good Fortune caters to a palate, unaccustomed to even modestly better quality American-Chinese fare. read more

This place rocks, but as with anything it depends what you get. Their chicken soup is awesome. Bean sprouts, onions (id prefer not as many), thin noodles, chicken and broth. I wish they offered it as a cup option, the minus; but it's bowl only. Perfect for delivery. We have tried many dishes there. The winners are human shrimp or chicken, we have tried both; dragon which is shrimp and chicken I can't stand garlic but I was surprised that even a dish with a garlic sauce you could barely taste the garlic. When we first walked in, we were pleasantly surprised by how nice it looks inside. And there are many outdoor tables as well. Our server Linda was very helpful and nice, but she was spread pretty thinly when we walked in and it took a while for her to get to us. We both ordered luncheon specials. We both ordered hot and sour soup and it was delicious. And we both ordered protein with garlic sauce. One of us ordered shrimp and the other had pork. There were five large shrimp in the one plate and lots of pork in the other. But our complaint was with the vegetables. There were very large chunks and were underdone. And there were no knives on the table so we had a hard time cutting the veggies as well. The flavor of both dishes was great. We were sort of unhappy with the fact that we really didn't taste any garlic. The egg roll that came with the luncheon plates was delicious as well. Yes, avoid this restaurant! For $140 I got two small bags of food! On their website they offer egg rolls for $4.50, it does say each however the picture next to it shows three eggrolls! So what do you think you're getting you're getting three eggrolls for $4.50. No each tiny little eggroll is $4.50. Absolutely not worth the money. GOOD FORTUNE offers equally good food for the same prices, is much closer to my home, and has plenty of parking right at the door. Tried Good Fortune on opening day. It's tucked next to Ace Hardware at Pinnacle Peak and Scottsdale Road, and I walked out seriously impressed. Upsides: Whenever I try a new Chinese restaurant, I order Beef with Broccoli as my test. If they can get that right, the rest of the menu's probably solid. Good Fortune didn't just pass -- it set the bar. The beef was juicy and velveted perfectly, broccoli cooked just right. Easily the best I've had in the Valley. The lunch special came with flavorful fried rice (not just brown rice with soy), a surprisingly good cup of soup, and wontons with thick skins that held up -- not the flimsy ones that disintegrate. Soup wasn't war wonton -- just a good ol' peace-time broth. The staff was friendly and efficient, especially for an opening day. That says a lot. They're in the old Jade Palace spot -- yes, I know Jade Palace moved a block over, and technically North Scottsdale still had Chinese food -- but this was our spot. The one that mattered. The throne sat empty, and Good Fortune just took the crown. Downsides: It's $20 for a lunch special. Sure, that's more than a typical mall joint -- but you get what you pay for. Personally, I'd rather shell out an extra 5 bucks and get the perfect meal than glare at dried-up beef, mushy broccoli, thin sauce, and wonder why I hate myself. They're a little hard to spot from the street, but that's not their fault. And at least that awful burger place is gone. Watching the cook assemble my hamburger without using pesky gloves -- while wiping his dripping face -- was enough for me. Bottom line? I'm giving this one 5 stars -- because it's perfect. read more

The filling had a pudding texture and tasted like cream cheese flavored custard. Didn't taste the crab (imitation). Husband had the teriyaki chicken and it was all dark meat. Very bland. I had the shrimp with walnuts which is my go-to at every Chinese restaurant. Way too much fried breading. Barely any sauce, drizzled on. I picked the breading off one and it wasn't de-tailed and was only partially deveined. Very bland and had to keep adding soy sauce to make it edible. Also ordered the pork fried rice and that was extremely bland. White rice was to come with the chicken and they gave me fried rice instead. I had high hopes for the Sweet and Sour Chicken at Good Fortune, which is by far one of my fave dishes. But unfortunately, it missed the mark in more ways than one. The biggest surprise? No pineapple. While I know not every version includes it, the dish lacked the usual balance of tangy sweetness that pineapple brings--and it sorely needed something to lift the flavor. Worse, the chicken was chewy and had an off taste that made it hard to finish. I almost never send food back, but this time I had to. When I did, the cook seemed visibly upset, you could hear him yelling at the server, which made the already slow and awkward service even more uncomfortable. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this dish--or this experience. There are plenty of places doing Sweet and Sour Chicken better, with better service to boot. read more
