After a quick inspection, he determined we needed to replace the torsion spring. I asked for a quote, and after typing into his iPad for quite a while he showed me an invoice that simply said "Springs $704". When I scrolled down, I saw he also added $49 for the visit. When I asked him why I was being charged separately for the visit, he mumbled that's the standard visit cost, and then said "oh let me check my notes", then took off the $49. I asked why replacing the spring would cost $700 when my research indicated spring replacement should cost around $250-500. He insisted $700 was the typical industry cost. I immediately called two other companies, both of them quoted me $250-450 for spring replacement. At this point, my husband came home and again asked the technician why he's giving us a quote that's double what other places charge. The technician then try to throw out some jargon about how we require some special spring at a special size. We told him we will not be continuing with the replacement and paid $49 for the visit. As the technician was leaving, he kept going on about how he will send me the quote with details on the springs to show us how it's special. Yeah, I never received anything from him. We went with another company, who came out an hour later and replaced the springs for $450. Always do your own research on how much things should cost!

Bill is a true craftsman! I've had a wood gate that has needed rebuilding for the last 8 years…read more Pieces of the wood gate were rotting. Over the years, I've had other handymen pass on the project. I had a handyman who was able to fill the rotted areas with wood filler, sand it, and restain it. I've even had a gate company tell me that they could not save the gate; it would need to be completely replaced. Bill was able to cut out the rotted pieces of wood, replace them, and restain the whole gate (he also repainted the decorative hardware on the door as well). Moreover, he discussed the project with a buddy of his and they determined that the gate was sitting over a muddy part of landscaping which is probably what facilitated the deterioration of the wood. We found some leftover pavers in our storage shed and Bill extended the pavers so the gate would sit over pavers instead of mud. Before he embarked on the wood gate repair, Bill also installed a valance/shade over a window. He made the necessary calculations to ensure that the valance/shade would be centered on the wall and window. He also made sure that the valence was leveled. Bill is honest, meticulous and detail-oriented. If you want someone to treat your project and your home, like it's his own, I would give Bill a call.

I wanted to add a review for Great Service from Good Guys Garage Doors that I received. We wanted to replace our garage doors and garage door openers. We have 2 doors; and 8x7 and 16x7. According to the representative these are common sized doors. However, with that being said we wanted to have all of that 7' for our vehicles. (We have 4x4's). I was impressed at how quickly the Door Specialist Tom knew about garage doors and our options. We were able to put "jack shaft" garage door openers on to the side of the new doors so we didn't have the openers mounted to the center and hanging down. He also suggested that we do "High Lift" tracking to take the garage door up as it opened. We took his advice and ordered as he suggested. We chose a carriage style garage door in one of their newest colors available, Black. We couldn't be more pleased with our door and garage door openers!! We absolutely love them. When the door opens you can barely hear them and to make things even better-the garage door openers have an app you can put on your phone that not only can operate the doors, it shows if the doors are open or closed, when the door was last opened.. Its amazing!!! We are a very happy family with our new HOME addition-Thank you Tom and the installers for selling such a great garage door, garage door openers and such a wonderful job. Note: Our location was EAST County San Diego, not San Francisco! Our garage door remotes stopped working. After replacing batteries and remotes, with no success, we called Good Guys. They responded to the message left at the office the same day and scheduled a tech to come out within a couple of day of the call. Marcus was the tech and he had serviced our door once before when the spring broke. He gave us a quote to fix the opener and two options to replace the entire opener system. As the unit was 23 years old he advised against repair. We decided to replace the unit. Marcus had everything he needed to replace it right then and there. The work was completed quickly and to our satisfaction. Marcus answered all our questions, hauled away the old machine, and left us with a quiet, smooth new garage door opener. Excellent service, fast and polite. Megan was an exceptional help who went above and beyond most companies would to help me with the warranty the previous company Sears who performed the repair on the garage door in 2012 even though they were not contracted through them anymore. Eventually Sears customer service was horrendous so I ended up proudly giving my money to Good Guys. Chris (technician) surprisingly was the same person who completed the previous job with Sears of repairing my garage springs 11 years ago. Very knowledgeable and friendly. A person who doesn't mind explaining the features and going over how equipment operate and should function. Hopefully if they are still around in the next 11-12 years if these springs give out they will still be around. Definitely recommend Good Guys for your service. read more

I have used Good Guys twice this year for my car garage door opener installations. My experience has been excellent! I spent more than I expected to because I chose to follow their recommendations (replace rollers, spring, rubber base and replace a few broken hinges) in addition to installing the garage door openers. This brought my garage doors and openers back to perfect condition. I should not need any maintenance or have any issues for years to come. You either spend it now or pay it later. I had the worst experience with Good Guys. DO NOT USE THEM! ZERO STARS! I ordered a garage door from them, the door was delayed and then door installation delayed several times. The next excuse the manager Megan gave me was the technician got COVID and couldn't schedule install YET AGAIN but when I talked to the technician he said that the management was HORRIBLE and to take my business elsewhere and that everyone was quitting at Good Guys. I canceled my order immediately. I also found that they try to UP SALE you on everything. Future customers BEWARE! ZERO STARS! I hate shopping around to compare prices. i always say a little prayer and go with what feels right. I came across this family owned company and it is what called to me. I was able to get same day service. Megan the receptionist called me back and offered a reason why she wasn't able to attend me immediately. It was so very hot today. The poor guys were replacing the old wooden spring loaded door at the back of the garage with a new metal segmented door. I had to wait two months, but it was worth it. They matched the color perfectly, and it is so much quieter than the front double wide lift door. I'm going to have the replace the segments in the front door in the future, but I'll have to save up. I wish I had a before and after picture. You really can't compare the improvement is so pronounced. I can attach an after photo. read more

My technician Marcus K arrived on time and within a half hour of the start of the noon-to-3 window. He called beforehand to keep me apprised of his approach. What a nice man! VERY courteous, explained everything and did great work. He even took his time double-checking and noticed that a back-up battery on the new garage door opener he had installed was not up-to-snuff and he replaced it quickly. Marcus, the technician, came out to service our garage door. The fix was a simple one, so to make sure that we received the full value of the "housecall" fee, Marcus performed maintenance on the garage door, oiling and tightening all the moving parts. One torsion spring broke on our garage 8'x16' roll up door with 2 springs, so the door would roll up intermittently or get stuck a foot off the ground. I watched Youtube instructional videos and considered doing the replacement myself, but for the time and costs of getting the right parts, tools, nuances of installation, correct adjustments, overall safety and longterm functionality, I thought it best just to hire an experienced, licensed and insured company who could also provide a warranty for the parts and service to do it. I reached out to 10 companies to get a torsion spring replacement quote, detailing the problem and sending a photo of the broken spring for reference. A couple of companies replied with price ranges from $200-$295 per spring to $320-$600 for 2 springs. Most recommended I replace both springs, but they also wanted to me to make an appointment for a service person to come inspect and provide an actual estimate because it might cost more based on door size, material, weight, upgraded springs, additional labor, ect.... Some companies just said they needed to inspect the problem first before they could provide any pricing. Only Adam from Coverall Garage Doors, replied with a straight up answer of $149.95 quote, inclusive of parts and labor to replace each spring, recommending I replace both springs, as when one spring breaks, the second spring is usually soon to follow. I checked all companies customer reviews, and at this time, Coverall Garage Doors only had (2) reviews on Yelp, and (5) reviews on Google, but they were all 5 star reviews from happy customers. I called Adam to find out more and found that he is well experienced, has worked years for other companies and is now trying to start his own. Adam was able to come make the repairs the same day, worked efficiently, made additional adjustments from prior issues, and now the garage door works perfectly. I included photos of before and after, and old springs vs the new ones he installed. He was very personable and informative. He said my garage door was otherwise in great shape, and he didn't try to upsell me on anything I didn't need. My garage door bottom rubber weather seal was old and torn, and Adam installed a replacement for less than what it would have cost me to buy and replace it myself. Refused to deduct the initial $85 show up fee as they said they would. Was $200 less elsewhere AND a better motor and experience. To no fault of theirs when they came out in December my garage door was momentarily working so they greased it up and stated they still need to charge me $85 for the appointment. They stated they would reimburse that if I purchased the new motor through them. I reached out for them to purchase the motor. They responded quickly and said they would be here tomorrow. The next day when they came, they had no notes as they said they previously did and were not prepared to install. I did confirm the rate was the same as it was in December. The next day they show up, increase the rate and refuse to deduct the initial fee for showing up. As if that were not enough, they were very unprofessional. While on speakerphone I heard them complaining about another customer as well as giving the current technician a hard time about telling me how much the motor cost. It was very uncomfortable. After trying to calm the Owner down and repeating myself four times that I'm only asking them to do what they originally agreed upon he suggested that I go somewhere else. I agreed. He then repeated my name multiple times telling me to be careful because other people with charge more and swindling the rates with me saying it was a good deal. I said this is unprofessional and walked inside. They kept calling and stayed onsite a bit knocking on my door. They also stated I needed a more expensive Genie replacement. Turns out I did not. The LiftMaster is what another vendor is using and is overall a better motor and $200 less than what they were charging. Update: They did apologize afterwards and refunded the initial charge. Then called asking why I put this review up. Because it was my experience and wasted time. I had to hang up- then received another text- again very unprofessional.
