5 stars for food, -1 star because it's just so loud. Others said it was "a bit loud," but that's a judicious understatement. My throat is sore 24 hours later from what I did to my vocal cords to be heard. On the other hand, this is a place where you have some drinks, and after a glass or two of wine I stopped caring about how loud it was, so it was fun in the moment. That said, a lot of the food is exceptional. As my mother said, "this would even be good if we weren't in Rochester!" Had a wonderful, effortless take-out experience this week! Ordered a Burger online, picked up within minutes at the time specified. We all know their sharable 1lb burger is amazing, but I was worried how the pick-up would go and how it would make it home, which for me is at least 15 minutes. The fries were packed in a foil bag which kept them crispy and still warm when I got home. The fries came in a very large portion, plenty for 2-3 people. The burger was cooked perfectly seasoned, cooked med-rare and placed not touching the butter toasted roll, so there was no soggy roll! The creamy sauce and the sesame seed topped lettuce slaw was included in separate containers. The cheese was not on the hot burger so you could decide if you wanted it on the burger or not. I have never had such a careful packaging experience, it was really impressive. Call when you arrive at the scheduled time you chose when you ordered online. They brought the food out within 30 sec to 1 min literally. Staff was nice and appreciative. First review after several visits. Good Luck is consistent, vibrant vibe, high quality cocktails, delicious food and lovely service. Our table wait time was two hours so we also requested seats at the bar as an back up plan. A cocktail server circles the bar so you don't have to squeeze in between bar guests. We ordered a beet and frise salad with tazaki dressing. For entrees we shared the gnocchi and carbonara. The gnocchi was had a light texture and the cabonara was full of black pepper. Dessert was the bartenders recommendation, a huge slice of carrot cake with chutney. Breakdown: One salad Two entrees Two glass Living roots Vidal, Three Negroni and Two Disaronno $168. Loved the atmosphere. Only problem with open ceilings is it can get a bit loud but we went early so it was fine. The food is served family style. We happened to have 5 people dining. I would say that the portions are better for 3/4 diners. With 5 I was still a tad bit hungry. Given that the food was delicious! The red lentils are to die for! The burger looks plain but is so flavorful that it does not need anything else. I am a huge s'mores fan so we had to try that for dessert, I found the custard a bit grainy. When our large group got the bill of over $455 and looked through it she realized she'd been over charged and brought it to their attention. The two stars are for the hostesses and our waitress. As far as the ambience, it's fine but at one point they dimmed the lights so low you would have needed a head lamp to see what you were eating. The food is way over priced for what they say is portion sharing. The salad was but the two pasta dishes were not portion size for sharing at all. More like children size. The mushroom pasta had one 2 mushroom heads and a stem. For what they charged for this dish($28) it should have been loaded with mushrooms. The gnocchi was good($28) I left this Resturant hungry. Don't believe the hype of this place Buffaloians save your time and gas. The food was good, not great or excellent. The people who are giving it 4 stars must be being paid by this Resturant.Don't be fooled by 4.5 stars. Now I understand why the name of this place is called Good Luck. Four of us split several things starting with the warm olives with citrus & herbs (according to everyone else they were good, but I hate olives so I did not try them). Also shared the red lentil curry (very good), Sicilian pizza (this was our favorite), brandade agnolotti (cod, sweet corn, fresno chili, light and delicious). I had the Gaffel Kolsch, which I liked. It is difficult to say anything that hasn't already been said about Good Luck...but it felt odd not to review one of my fave spots in ROC, so here it is! My right of passage GLR review. Good Luck is beautifully designed, thoughtfully crafted (menu, cocktails, space, the BATHROOMS...just all of it), and sure to be an experience each time I go. Their menu changes all the time but a few mainstays I've tried are: - The infamous burger (drooooools onto keyboard) - Fried Chicken - Pizza (have skipped this since ordering the first time - not because there is anything wrong with it...it's just...IDK they also have Oxtail on their menu and maybe order pizza at a place that doesn't serve oxtail and order oxtail when oxtail is offered. You dig? Like..yes pizza is good. But...just don't? Also no judgement tho I love pizza.) - LENTILS (why are these so good?) In addition to a host of other specials and noms. Everything is flawless in its execution, presentation, and ability to make diners get IN THERE and personal with food and fellow diners. I've never had a bad cocktail here, and would recommend trying one of their twists on an Old Fashioned. Or the Hemingway. OR whatever you're in the mood for I don't need to tell you what to do! All I am saying is, it is going to be good no matter what. Settle in and watch your luck go from good to great. read more

No longer so thrilled. started out at 7:00 PM on time. Went to the table half of which was a bench the other half chairs. First thing I noticed the bench was totally wet I believe possibly the bench just have been cleaned but they never thought to dry it. Not the worst thing, I took the napkin and dried it myself but not a good beginning. Waitress was wonderful, we ordered some drinks and it started to feel good. The five of us made our order. We ordered a few apps and hamburgers as well an order of chicken. Three hamburgers were medium one well done. Seems simple right? The problem is each meal came probably at least five minutes until the next item came in, so it took almost 25 minutes difference, maybe even longer for the last person to receive there dinner comparing to the first person that got their entrée. I'm not sure about you, but our bill was over three dollars seems like we should all have been able to eat at the same time. read more

Went to a company event here - private room. The staff (food and bar) knocked it out of the park with fantastic service. The food is served and made shareable. Salmon was excellent. Steak cooked to perfection. Good luck burger 1 lb with French fries was excellent and shared by all. The 32 oz Bone-In Rib Eye looked fantastic did NOT have one. When I say this place is good it is GOOOOOOOD!!!! MMMM MMMMM GOOD. Everything I tasted was delicious. The steak of the day was the most tender, juicy, flavored beef on a slab I have tasted in a while. The enchilada bowl thing bomb. It was not soggy or wet (I hate that). The burger was LARGE but still flavored. It takes skill to keep the flavor in a 1lb burger and good it to the right temperature. The oxtail stew... I'm going to just get that. I believe it had tripe in it but the flavors... I barely noticed. The pizza delicious. The cheese charcuterie board was tasty. Very interesting items on it. The bread was on point literally. I was at good luck a few weeks ago returning to order the famous shareable good luck burger and Moscow mule cocktail (which is on tap). The Good Luck burger is the best burger in Rochester. Actually... the best entree. You can fight me on it. Cooked perfectly, super thick and juicy, with wedges of sharp cheese. Then the sauce takes it to the next level and I would buy it by the gallon if sold separately. Smothering those dirty little shoe string fries in that filthy sauce is just heaven. The slaw is perfection. And there is always enough left to bring home, add a fried egg, and enjoy for breakfast. Got a little carried away there just reminiscing about my love for the food.... atmosphere is great (it's a Rochester icon being one of the first restaurants to open in the NYC meat packing industrial style). Drinks are killer (huge cocktail list, or ask for a "Kathy" off the menu if you like grapefruit). Service is wonderful. And the hand soap in the bathroom is an aroma therapy bomb for your skin (always has been for the 12 years I've been visiting the place). read more

First time visit, dined in on a Thursday evening. We loved the quirky, relaxed ambiance featuring industrial finishings and carefully curated details down to the napkins and silverware. The staff were very nice and well informed. I felt safe with ample spacing between tables and staff in masks. The other tables were full of smiling faces, a couple on an intimate date, a large table of folks celebrating, a gathering for girl's night, a young family with little ones. A space for everyone. Before our first visit, I was concerned about a few things: parking, seating, and heat. Everything turned out just fine though, with parking available in a lot just a minute's walk away, cool temps inside the restaurant, and adequate seating options for those of us that might be a little nervous about sitting in small, antique, wobbly chairs that might not fully support our XXL derrieres. Our drinks (old fashioned and moscow mule) were solid and I enjoyed having so many options, including alcohol free offerings such as kambocha and organic iced tea. The bar would clearly be a fun place to gather and it looked inviting with mood lighting and cushy stools. Now on to the good stuff: we shared the pan seared trout on a green hummus and chickpea slathered pita. It was a bit hard to cut, but the taste was great and made for a light starter. It had a bit of a spicy bite, though the chimichurri sauce was mild. The trout was moist, with a delicate flavor, and crispy skin. We quickly moved onto the infamous Good Luck Burger. It was plenty for two, a very flavorful, quartered patty, amply seasoned and heavy on the salt. It could borderline on being too salty for some, but that was toned down by adding the mild cheese wedges, slaw, and the magic sauce onto the light brioche. I loved the small things, like the crunch of the burger and toasty bun and the creamy slaw of tomato, onion, lettuce. Creative. It was nice to add as much or as little of the magic sauce as desired. The fries were also good, a little oily but still crispy and salted to perfection. We ate it all! The only thing I missed was a pickle slice or spear somewhere on the plate, which is probably my very favorite part of eating a burger. We ended the meal with a piping hot chocolate cake with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream which was light but still decadent and comforting. The thing that moved me most was something unexpected...that, after spending so much time apart over the last year, splitting shareable dishes with a friend was a memorable experience definitely worth savoring. read more

Shame on me for not reviewing Good Luck yet. This is my bust and my bust only. This is our favorite Rochester restaurant. The food is excellent, the drinks are fabulous, the decor and ambiance is second to none and the service is always outstanding. We've been coming for years and always stick with the famous good luck burger, some kind of salad, the ribeye is glorious and the La Escopeta is my favorite cocktail of all time anywhere; even getting my non-liquor loving husband hooked on this gem. They are friendly, welcoming and just all around a pleasure. It's owned by Java's longtime owner, Mike and it shows. You either know business or you don't and Mike knows. Good Luck is a must if you're a Rochesterian and even more so if you're just visiting. read more

Came to Rochester to see some friends I hadn't seen since I moved away in 1995. While Rochester has gone through some changes, it still has a parochial feel to it. And it shows up in a good bit of the restaurant offerings We went to Good Luck after a night at Fashion Week. The restaurant wasn't close to closing, evident from the density of the crowd. There is a late night menu and I won't mark that as a ding. It's the offerings that I score low on. All but one of the main dishes had pork in it. The salmon sandwich sounded like a good option but was chilled. I passed on ordering a main dish. I had a glass of wine and since I had eaten earlier, I opted for a slice of olive oil lemon cake. Instead of an angel food or chiffon texture, it was coarse like cornbread. Neither the lemon custard nor grape coulis made it moister. This seems like a lively spot for the late night crowd and I'm sure the sound of cha-ching is loud from the rounds of drinks. Not a bad business model to have. For me, I would have to sample from their menus before late night before I can feel wowed. Given the great service my table received, I'm confident I could be won over, just not so much with their late night menu. read more

The food is so good! I want to let everyone know that they will take orders via phone order before 5:30 PM to avoid overwhelming the kitchen. If you decide to order over the phone after 5:30 then you have to come in person to make an order. My boyfriend and I ordered the two dishes to share. The chef did a fantastic job on cooking duck and burger. They tasted very good and very tender. I approved the dishes!!! The burger was a little on the dry side. I remember the 1st time I had this dish. It was tender. Their small plates are large enough to share. I like this place because it is family style portion. I guess that was on purpose because my dish was served with a spoon. The salad also had traces of cabbage in it. Why? It was all pretty gross. My friends ordered their famous burger to split. Their enormous burger came out in under 10 minutes well done but not hot nor warm either. The only thing fresh were the fries and they were salted like they were being preserved.
