    Mushroom pizza
    Jen-Ann L.

Happy hour ends at 5 so we missed that. Mushroom pizza had good flavor but the texture was very floppy. The fritto misto had great texture and batter but exemplified interesting decision making in what to fry. We found onion skins, olives, shrimps, and calamari all jumbled and stuck together like they were clumped together in the fryer. Made for an interesting grab bag. I would say overall the food is good but the prices do not reflect just good food. The service was decent. Everyone was polite and attentive. The ambiance inside was great! Nice decor and good vibes. We sat outside on the patio which had nice bench seating and good for people watching.

I was hesitant to go here as I had had a lukewarm experience with beast and bounty, but had heard good things from bartender friends. The bartenders were accommodating, well-versed in cocktails, and the ambience was lovely. Would definitely go back for drinks. Should probably try the food while I am at it.

Spinach Artichoke Dip with Toasted Bread

We happened to be in the neighbor and decided to try Good Neighbor. It was delicious we started with the spinach artichoke dip came with focaccia toasted bread and the English Pea Arancini OMG I had never had Arancini it was so delicious!!!! We shared the 1/2 pound award winning cheeseburger with fries, and a spring chopped salad with grilled chicken. Our server was great and helpful in helping us to decide on our selections. The music playing was great Old School. The place was clean. Bathrooms are clean. Parking was a bit of a bear but we managed to find a spot in a parking lot next to it. We paid for 2 hours and it came out to $6.35. Would I return most definitely! It was well worth it. Next time maybe we can also try a dessert. We were just to full.

I've been so excited to visit Good Neighbor, I've been keeping track of their instagram posts and everything has looked so delicious. This area is always very busy and finding parking can be hit or miss, but if you loop around or head onto some of the side streets you should be able to find something (usually paid parking) within walking distance. When I arrived on a Friday evening there was an hour wait for a table for two, we took a short walk over to Midtown Spirits for a drink while we waited for a text to let us know our table was ready. The texting system they have set up makes it really convenient, especially if you don't want to wait right in front of the restaurant. We ended up with a cute table for two and noticed they have blocks on the table to alert the team if you need service or the check- no one mentioned them as we were seated, so we weren't sure if we'd need to use them from the start or not. We ended up chatting and eventually a server came to introduce themself and take our drink orders. They were pretty busy, so service was on the slower side. We could tell they were hustling and weren't sure if pressing our table button would slow them down or if it's what they preferred. We ended up waiting patiently and when our drinks came we were able to order food. Our main courses took quite some time, we thought they may have forgotten us. We stayed patient though and right before we were going to check in they were brought out to us. We ended up having the English Pea Arancini ($12) as an appetizer, with three pieces they were a perfect starter and were very flavorful. I ordered the Good Burger ($22) it's a 1/2lb burger that has cheddar, pickles, lettuce, onions, sauce and a generous portion of tallow fries. The burger was tasty and I liked that the onions were grilled. It had house made pickles that were more tangy. I ended up taking half of the burger and most of the fries home because it was pretty filling. Although the fries would be perfect for sharing with dining companions and are best fresh. The person I was with ordered the Hanger Steak Salad ($34) and it was beautifully plated and perfectly cooked to her requested medium rare. The portion was also generous and she ended up having leftovers. We utilized the signal box on our table to let our server know when we were ready to pay and boxed up leftovers. I would definitely go back, but would try to plan for a slower night or time.

    Italian sodas, refresh mocktail
    Angelica R.

I really wanted to like this restaurant but was so disappointed. Best thing of the night was probably my drink. I got the refresh and it was delicious! My friends ordered different Italian sodas and weren't a fan- they weren't expecting how sweet and creamy they would be. Went with my friends for a girls night so we ordered a variety of dishes- sadly all of them were missing salt and missed the mark other than the pasta (ragú). The fritto misto- such high hopes. Loved the lemon and the crispy tempura coating but needed to add our own salt because it was sort of flavorless. The aioli it came with was good. The fries- sad fries that were probably sitting for a while. Skip. Cesar salad and the good neighbor chop- the lettuce seemed out of a bag for some reason and once again, both needed more flavor. Love the idea of the chop and it could probably be delicious but missed the mark. Ragú pasta- yes. Order this. Delicious. Good portion. Flavortown. Service- we felt we were being rushed the whole time. Our server kept asking if we were done and offering boxes and wanting to take our plates away even though we were still eating and drinking. This was almost from the start. We noticed there were plenty of tables open and we weren't then for longer than an hour. Really disappointed. Overall- beautiful location.

    Beautiful bar

My family and I checked out Good Neighbor last night for dinner which is located in The Ice Blocks where Beast and Bounty used to be. The interior was beautiful - yellows, blues and greens that set the mood and the gorgeous bar was the focal point of the whole restaurant. For drinks, we ordered the Good Neighbor Old Fashioned, Freezer Martini and the Lemonade. My husband liked the Old Fashioned and said it was different in a good way, the Freezer Martini was just okay and the Lemonade was the sourest thing I've ever had in my life - it was straight lemon juice and water - we had to ask from them to sweeten it up twice just so that my daughter could actually enjoy it. For food, my daughter ordered the Kids Cheese Pizza and we started with Grandma's Meatballs. My daughter liked her pizza and we thought the meatballs were good - they had a nice flavor, but were nothing special. For our entree, my husband and I ordered the Steak Frites to share - while the plate looked beautiful, the plate didn't actually hit. The steak was tough because it was sliced across the grain (IYKYK) and it was also cooked medium rare, which is fine, but we were never asked how we wanted it cooked. The sauce on the plate was also very salty - it was too much for my husband and while the fries were fresh (I think) and cooked in beef talon, they weren't anything special either. Overall, I am giving them 4 stars because the service was spot on - shout out to Brenda who took great care of us! Based off of the food, I don't think we'll come back - maybe for drinks though if we're in the area.

Excellent menu with diverse options. Really great service by people who genuinely try to go above and beyond. Had a nice Thursday evening dinner here with the fam. We ordered a pizza, salad, a burger and even an appetizer. All our food was delicious. The standout here was their pizza and also the mushroom arancini. Sitting on the patio made for a beautiful evening. They played old school R&B music at a level that was really smooth. Didn't try any alcohol but their drinks menu was appealing. Highly recommend trying out this Ice Blocks standout.

Nice and trendy restaurant, visited for brunch. It was nice that they gave you an option to sit indoor or out, we chose indoor. Quick service, and they have a button where you can switch a light to service and pay. We ordered their Caesar salad, tallow fries, breakfast pizza, and their cinnamon roll waffle. Our favorite was the waffle. I personally couldn't taste the tallow in their tallow fries, and I wished their breakfast pizza had a standard of adding eggs to it instead of it being extra. Food was good, but not out of this world. If within the area, definitely would like that waffle again.

Great food and drink spot with both inside and outside seating options! Drink menu had a lot of options, all priced very reasonably. The food options were also great. Steak frites: 3/5 They recommended medium, but it came more like rare. Too rare for my liking but the sauce and fries were great. Burger: 4/5 Solid burger with good quality meat, was expecting more of a charcoal taste. Pizza: 4/5 Great pizza with good crust and great quality ingredients. Salad: 5/5 We loved the salad! The cornbread croutons were awesome and it was overall a well balanced salad. The service was excellent even while sitting outside. They have a fun cube to get the waiter attention and ask for the bill remotely. Overall, a great experience and will definitely come back with friends!

    Crispy Roasted Chicken
    Susan B.

My friends came here for dinner on Friday evening. We got there around 5:20pm and luckily there was no wait. We were immediately seated. The ambiance is nice but quite dim with high ceilings. Open kitchen so you will smell if you are seated next to the kitchen. Our server was Amy. Amy gave us plenty of time to look through the menu and even told us their daily special. She did not rush us. We decided on different dishes to try. Crispy Roasted Chicken: Chicken was really tender. Needed a bit more flavor. Roasted fingerlings were a bit underdone especially the larger pieces. Mushroom Arancini: It was delicious! Usually comes with 3 but we paid $4 for an extra piece. Grandma's Meatballs: Standard meatballs. Nothing special. Usually comes with 3 but we paid $4 for an extra piece. Fritto Misto: It was good but the seasoning was a bit too salty. Interesting that it includes tempura lemon slices. Classic Pepperoni Pizza: Loved the smoky taste from the wood fire. Other than that, just a standard pizza. Steak Frites: It was good. Very meaty. The sauce was really good. Grilled Broccolini: Broccolini was grilled and seasoned perfectly. One of my favorites from the night. Not all the food was perfect but our server was awesome. She was very attentive and friendly. There is a service cube on each table. There is a button to press for service and another button to press to pay. Even without using the cube, our server still came by to check in on us from time to time. Parking can be limited as it is located on the ICE block.

Heads up: on the weekends there is a menu/food change between 3-4pm so our options to pick from were limited. The drinks, salad and fries were really good! I recommend all four. Unfortunately, our pizza was not well done as seen in other pictures. I would not recommend getting the pizza.

    Grill chicken sandwich

I came here to catch up with some friends and have some lunch. We came here when they opened for the day. I think parking can be challenging at busy times of the day. The street parking near the area can get full because of all the other shops and restaurants around the area. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich. It was very good. The bread was soft. It wasn't hard to eat. I just hate it when you bite into a roll, and it is hard to chew off. The chicken breast was cooked well. The chicken was juicy and had good taste to it. I tried the cheese pizza, too. It was ok. Nothing special about it. Service, well, not that good. Our server was not present. They do have this cube to call for service. That didn't help either. I can understand if the place was busy, the tables were filled, but there was only one other table besides us. She did not come around when we pressed the cube for help. It took her some time. I thought the food was pretty good. Service not so great. If I come here again and hopefully it will be a different server.

If you're looking for a place that feels like your favorite neighborhood hangout and delivers on food and vibes, Good Neighbor by Urban Roots on R Street is a must-visit in Sacramento. We shared a bunch of plates -- everything from the wood-fired pizzas to the spinach artichoke dip and the chopped Cobb salad-- and each one was tasty in its own way. The pizzas had this great char and chewy crust, and the spinach artichoke dip was the perfect combo of cheesy, gooey and savory. And let me tell you about the pear vinaigrette on that chopped salad... to die for! What really made the night, though, was the service. Our server was friendly, checked in at the right moments, and genuinely seemed excited to make sure we were having a good time -- which made the whole experience feel effortless and fun. I would highly recommend checking them out for a cute and fun girls night or a more intimate date night! We even went after a workout... good neighbor truly covers all bases!

This hidden gem offers an experience that's unlike anything else in the city. The setup is simple but charming: you literally walk up to a window and order your wine. I believe it's one ring for white, two for red, and three or four for sparkling--don't quote me on that, but it adds a playful, old-world vibe that makes the whole experience memorable. The Wine Window is affordable, laid-back, and surprisingly quaint. It's the kind of place where the ambiance, the people, and the energy make it feel more like an experience within an experience--not just a drink stop. I had the chance to chat with John, the owner, who shared a bit of the backstory. He previously owned a full wine room nearby, but when the pandemic hit, he had to pivot. Instead of calling it quits, he leaned into a smaller, more intimate concept inspired by wine windows in Europe. Honestly, I think the scale makes it even better. The outdoor patio is perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine while people-watching on L Street, and yes, there's even a restroom available (a rare but very appreciated amenity for this type of setup). If you find yourself downtown, do yourself a favor--swing by The Wine Window, have a chat with John, and enjoy a unique Sacramento experience.

The scallop was the most tender scallop, it just melts in your mouth and perfectly seared. The ciambella has limocrllo macaropone, so soft and not overly sweet on a layer of olive oil cake. Reservations are a must. I booked a week before hand and there were limited availability. I would definitely come back for a special occasion! The parking lot is TINY but there are plenty of street parking.

From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable and the cuisine was exceptional. The biggest…read moresurprise of the evening was the cocktail program. Their espresso cocktail is absolutely outstanding--unlike anything I've ever had and easily one of the best cocktails I've experienced. The chef had every course perfectly dialed in, from the beautiful presentation to the thoughtful combination of ingredients. Each component complemented the others, creating balanced and memorable flavor profiles throughout the meal. The service was truly second to none. I accidentally dropped my napkin three separate times, and each time a fresh one appeared before I even had the chance to ask. That level of attentiveness carried throughout the entire evening. Every detail was spot on, making for an unforgettable dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant and can't wait to return. Thank you for a wonder evening!
