This is the newest addition to the growing Urban Roots family of restaurants, and we absolutely love it! It's really shot up to the top of our go-to's list. Firstly I'm so happy that another restaurant took over this space, because the space itself is just gorgeous with the tall ceilings and the preserved original brick wall from the old orchard supply/crystal ice warehouse (which the bar sits against now). This is probably the most "formal" of urban roots' restaurants, since it is actually full service. However, the variety of menu items makes this one of our top choices for a weekend night out or even a quick dinner midweek. Our favorite items are the bolognese, the burger w/ tallow fries (best fries in Sacramento I dare say), and whatever rotating seasonal pasta is on the menu. The bar menu also features a great variety of cocktails- the bartender is super friendly and willing to make adjustments to drinks (I don't like it too sweet). The milk punch is my usual choice, but on nights where I'm not having alcohol, I also appreciate that there is a mocktail list. The only critique I have is regarding the change in layout- there are 3 entrances but the placement of the hostess stand feels particularly awkward and not very intuitive. read more

Four stars for Good Neighbor. Love the airy ambiance and bar space; this is the old Beast and Bounty restaurant and prior to that it used to be part of the old Crystal Cream & Butter Company factory. With the exposed brick and lofty ceilings, it creates for a unique setting. You can find seating indoors and outside on the front patio space. Have been here for many a happy hour which runs Monday to Friday from 3:00 - 5:00. Your best "bang for the buck" are the "Shareables" which are 2 for $20. I tried their Pavé Fries which come with sour cream and creme fraiche. Very unusual, highly recommend. Akin to a potato casserole cut into strips and deep fried, I loved the crunchy layers and textures. I also tried their Grandma's Meatballs (4) which came with marinara sauce, ricotta and parmesan. They were average-sized, but had a lot of flavor. On HH, their signature cocktails are $12. Draft beer is by Urban Roots and is $6. Their service was okay, not exactly warm and fuzzy, but I got my food and drink in a reasonable amount of time. read more

My sister suggested this place for Happy hour. HH is Mon-Fri 3-5pm. It was our first time here. Stopped in on a Monday. We ordered the SHAREABLES ANY 2 FOR S20 off their HH menu. We went with the SPINACH + ARTICHOKE DIP SERVED WITH GRILLED FOCACCIA & one of the Wood fired CHEESE PIZZA which comes with MOZZARELLA, PARMIGIANO, FONTINA, TOMATO SAUCE. The dip was so good I could just drink it like soup. It's not super cheesy & more on the runny side but it's perfect with the focaccia. The cheese pizza was a thin crust with 3 cheeses. Also ordered the WOOD GRILLED CHICKEN sandwich comes with fries. It comes with marinated tomatoes, arugula, fontina, lemon aioli, pugliese roll. I was expecting the chicken to be on the drier side but it was super tasty. It's like a salad in a chicken sandwich. Chicken was not dried at all. I've been here a few times, went on a Saturday checked in with the hostess and sat by the staircase where we would be attended rather than waiting for a table. First server was nice, we ordered drinks and food, after that the "server" would switch not sure if that was because of the seating. The two other tables by us were being occupied and it seemed like the staff members were making conversation with them and attending them but not with my table. We also saw what looked like a server taking a drink with the couple next to us. I appreciate good service and would like to see the staff communicate better.. on previous visits I've felt rushed and wasn't pleased with certain items. There were a few hiccups like being brought the wrong pizza but they were nice and let us keep it since my friends had grabbed a slice before realizing it was the wrong pizza. Both pizzas were bomb and I enjoyed my gin drink as well. I thought the meatball appetizer was a bit stingy since it comes with only 3 and was a bit pricey for the amount you receive. I've been so excited to visit Good Neighbor, I've been keeping track of their instagram posts and everything has looked so delicious. This area is always very busy and finding parking can be hit or miss, but if you loop around or head onto some of the side streets you should be able to find something (usually paid parking) within walking distance. When I arrived on a Friday evening there was an hour wait for a table for two, we took a short walk over to Midtown Spirits for a drink while we waited for a text to let us know our table was ready. The texting system they have set up makes it really convenient, especially if you don't want to wait right in front of the restaurant. We ended up with a cute table for two and noticed they have blocks on the table to alert the team if you need service or the check- no one mentioned them as we were seated, so we weren't sure if we'd need to use them from the start or not. We ended up chatting and eventually a server came to introduce themself and take our drink orders. They were pretty busy, so service was on the slower side. We could tell they were hustling and weren't sure if pressing our table button would slow them down or if it's what they preferred. We ended up waiting patiently and when our drinks came we were able to order food. Our main courses took quite some time, we thought they may have forgotten us. We stayed patient though and right before we were going to check in they were brought out to us. We ended up having the English Pea Arancini ($12) as an appetizer, with three pieces they were a perfect starter and were very flavorful. I ordered the Good Burger ($22) it's a 1/2lb burger that has cheddar, pickles, lettuce, onions, sauce and a generous portion of tallow fries. The burger was tasty and I liked that the onions were grilled. It had house made pickles that were more tangy. I ended up taking half of the burger and most of the fries home because it was pretty filling. Although the fries would be perfect for sharing with dining companions and are best fresh. The person I was with ordered the Hanger Steak Salad ($34) and it was beautifully plated and perfectly cooked to her requested medium rare. The portion was also generous and she ended up having leftovers. We utilized the signal box on our table to let our server know when we were ready to pay and boxed up leftovers. It took about 40ish minutes for our food to come out. When it finally arrived, everything looked really good, but the quality was disappointing. The steak and eggs was just okay. You can definitely find a better version somewhere else. I wouldn't recommend the eggs Benedict. The hollandaise sauce was bland and had almost no flavor, and honestly, the only thing I really enjoyed on the plate was the potatoes. The ambiance is nice, and I could see this being a good spot to grab drinks. But as far as the food goes, it was pretty lackluster. Loved the lemon and the crispy tempura coating but needed to add our own salt because it was sort of flavorless. The aioli it came with was good. The fries- sad fries that were probably sitting for a while. Skip. Cesar salad and the good neighbor chop- the lettuce seemed out of a bag for some reason and once again, both needed more flavor. Love the idea of the chop and it could probably be delicious but missed the mark. Ragú pasta- yes. Order this. Delicious. Good portion. Flavortown. Service- we felt we were being rushed the whole time. Our server kept asking if we were done and offering boxes and wanting to take our plates away even though we were still eating and drinking. My family and I checked out Good Neighbor last night for dinner which is located in The Ice Blocks where Beast and Bounty used to be. The interior was beautiful - yellows, blues and greens that set the mood and the gorgeous bar was the focal point of the whole restaurant. For drinks, we ordered the Good Neighbor Old Fashioned, Freezer Martini and the Lemonade. My husband liked the Old Fashioned and said it was different in a good way, the Freezer Martini was just okay and the Lemonade was the sourest thing I've ever had in my life - it was straight lemon juice and water - we had to ask from them to sweeten it up twice just so that my daughter could actually enjoy it. For food, my daughter ordered the Kids Cheese Pizza and we started with Grandma's Meatballs. My daughter liked her pizza and we thought the meatballs were good - they had a nice flavor, but were nothing special. For our entree, my husband and I ordered the Steak Frites to share - while the plate looked beautiful, the plate didn't actually hit. The steak was tough because it was sliced across the grain (IYKYK) and it was also cooked medium rare, which is fine, but we were never asked how we wanted it cooked. The sauce on the plate was also very salty - it was too much for my husband and while the fries were fresh (I think) and cooked in beef talon, they weren't anything special either. Overall, I am giving them 4 stars because the service was spot on - shout out to Brenda who took great care of us! I came here with some friends for breakfast. I didn't see that they took reservations so we showed up about 15 minutes after they opened. There is street parking and there is a parking lot just two buildings down from the place. The spats are a little tight. when walking out we saw a car almost hit another parked car. When we entered there were a few tables taken but we were seated right away. They asked if we wanted a high top or lower seating. We went for the latter since my wife didn't want her feet dangling. and I don't really like the high tops. The place had a large bar since it did take over from the old Beast and Bounty. We sat in the area across from the kitchen. There is a wall separating that are from the bar area. We were first to arrive and then a few minutes later our friends came to meet us. It seemed like a while before the server came over and introduced herself. It wasn't that busy but it did seem like she wasn't very attentive. My wife pointed to a light cube in the middle of our table. It had a service button and a pay button. I was kind of disappointed that I had to call a server over using a call box. I didn't use it till I had to keep asking for refills on my iced tea. We were finally able to order our food. I got the salmon sandwich and it was pretty good. The salmon was cooked perfect and the bread was really fresh. My wife got the chicken sandwich and she enjoyed it too. I also got a trio cheese pizza. There was only one size and when it came out it was a personal sized pizza. It was just ok nothing special, kind of funny after taste. Our friends got the peperoni pizza and seemed to like it. my wife's friend got the salad and was disappointed. Paid my first visit to Good Neighbor for a work lunch and it was wonderful! The space is just gorgeous with its high ceilings and airy feel. Loved the open kitchen and the nice bar area. We were greeted warmly and seated right away. Andrew provided excellent service and was very helpful answering all of this first-timer's questions. We ended up going with the fritto misto as a shared starter and they were kind enough to not include fennel, as it usually comes with it but neither of us are fans. Let me tell you, this very well may be the best fritto misto I've ever had in my life! Loved the light, crispy batter and the nice variety of items including leeks, olives, thinly sliced lemon in addition to the plump shrimp and yummy calamari. FOB smells like orange juice and was more ginger forwards than j would like (my husband liked it more). MP I thought was way better. It was more refreshing. The bar was crowded but we were still able to get drinks while we waited. The outdoor seating has heaters and blankets right now because of the cold weather, but we opted to wait for a table indoors. The service was great from the bartenders and the server after we got seated! The service cubes on the table allow you to alert your server when you need something, but they were good about checking in so it wasn't needed. Nice touch though! The drinks were great! The food was good, although my steak frites was on the edge of too salty for me. The chef special, braised short rib, was delicious. We also got a slice of basque cheesecake from "Side Hustle" which is kind of like their satellite dessert place?! It was very tasty! we will definitely be back. Love coming to Good Neughbor for a drink and dinner! Haven't sat at a table because I personally love the service at the bar. The bar has great selections for a classic drink or even a specialty cocktail. There's also a great wine selection. The shareable menu is delicious! We had the artichoke and spinach dip. Focaccia....11/10! The Caesar is such a classic with the sardines. Love the crunch with the radicchio. I've had the pizza in the past and having it wood oven baked makes a huge difference! Feels and tastes very upscale. The steak frites are honestly my go-to when coming here! Tried the mussels and the chorizo was such a great compliment. Wish there was more broth but would definitely have again. read more

I've been here twice and I prefer their lunch options over dinner. Good Neighbor took over Beast & Bounty and is one of Urban Roots' newer restaurants. I enjoy the atmosphere, though it can feel pretty tight during peak hours and busy, especially around the holidays or during special occasions. There is outdoor seating as wel. LUNCH Apple Walnut Salad - 5/5 Really good. A great balance of vinaigrette, walnuts, apples, and pickled cherries. Wild Mushroom Pizza - 3.8/5 Served hot and fresh, but a bit too cheesy for my preference. Grilled Chicken Sandwich - 4/5 Light, satisfying, and a good lunch option. DINNER Pavé Fries - 5/5 A hit with the kids. Light, airy, and very enjoyable. Candied Carrots - 3.8/5 I wanted to like this more, but it was just okay. Fritto Misto - 4/5 Tempura Seafood - a mix of calamari and shrimp that was lightly battered and paired well with the lemon aioli. The battered olives weren't my favorite though. Steak Frites - 4.5/5 Enjoyable and was shared. The steak was cooked medium, tender, and juicy. I liked the sauce, though my kid found it a bit sweet. The fries were slightly salty. Classic Pepperoni Pizza - 5/5 My kids demolished this and gave it a thumbs up. DRINKS Melon & Peach Italian Soda - 5/5 So good and refreshing. Recover - 5/5 Very refreshing Milk Punch - 3.8/5 Good overall, but a bit too sweet for me and I couldn't really taste the alcohol. Freezer Martini - 5/5 This wasn't on the menu and I got this for the gram to be honest. I like martini dry and this was strong.
