We were in town for the weekend and were staying nearby. We popped over for a late lunch. I was super impressed with the menu choices and the prices. There were many choices and I finally narrowed it down to the avocado turkey burger with sea salt fries. We also tried the fried green tomato sandwich and the Nashville chicken. My turkey burger was cooked well and the flavor was quite good. The sandwich was stocked full of toppings which was nice! The Nashville Hot chicken wasn't too overly spicy but had enough heat to it. After much contemplation, I decided to get some of the Good Stuff for lunch. I purposely parked on South 23rd Street versus Crystal Drive to burn a few calories before and after my dining experience. Being a huge fan of Michelle, I selected the "Michelle Melt", no fries required. If it's good enough for the FLOTUS, it's good enough for me right? My cashier told me that if I completed a short survey, I could get a FREE small milkshake. I finished my survey in a few seconds and my Toasted marshmallow shake was on the way. Easy Breezy!! I pulled out my Kindle while I waited but people-watching became more interesting. I saw people biting into the burgers and getting sauce all over their hands and faces. People smiling while sharing milkshakes while others were leaning back watching TV & discussing college football. I like the cleanliness, relaxed feel, and décor at this location. One of the employees delivered my order. Everything was fresh including the wheat bun! My free range turkey burger was juicy, slightly charred on both sides just like I like it and the Swiss cheese, caramelized onions, Ruby tomato, herb garden mayo, and lettuce enhanced the flavor. Very disappointing.  I went here for lunch and ordered the Prez Obama Burger, Fries and a drink.  First I was annoyed because I ordered a snack fries and drink and the cashier didn't give me the "Snack Fry & Soda" combo deal but instead charged me the individual price for each.  It was only a couple cents difference so I didn't feel the need to do anything about it but it was annoying to get charged a different price than my coworker even though I ordered the same thing.  Double check your receipt before paying.   They give you a pager when you order the food which lights up and beeps when the food is ready.  It came out in about 5 minutes.   The initial presentation was not good.  The first thing that surprised me is that they bag the burgers and fries even if your eating in store.  It keeps all the moisture in so when you open up the bag the burger is squished up (nothing like the pictures in the website) and the fries are a soggy mess.   For taste the burger patty was overcooked and a little dry in my option, cooked well done with no pink at all.  It tasted good with the toppings but if the patty was cooked medium well I think it would have been better.  The fries were limp and greasy and even the multitude of dipping sauces available could not save them.  I didn't even bother to finish them. read more

My friend and I were in Crystal City area because of a Yelp Elite event. The event wasn't food focus and when led to our hunger after the event. I grabbed my Yelp app and found this place I had booked marked. It was easy to find near Crystal City shops. Upon entering I immediately decided that I wanted the Free Range turkey burger with Spike's village fries. My friend ordered the same thing except she ordered the Michelle Melt turkey burger. We were given pagers that would let us know when our ordered was done. We grabbed a table and headed over for our silverware, napkins, and sauces while we waited. Ohhh the sauces!!! There were quite a few I could choose from for my dipping pleasure. I lovedhe Chipotle and Old Bay the best. I will say that the dipping wasn't as great with the Spike's village fries compared if I would have ordered Sunny's hand cut fries. I only say this because of the seasoning used in Spike's village fries was overwhelming at times. Now lets talk about the turkey burger. My burger was done to perfection. I was impressed because the turkey burger was actually flavorful and juicy. Sometimes I noticed at other places turkey burgers can be bland and dry. My friend said her turkey burger was dry but the other items on the burger made up for it. If I didn't have dairy issues I would have been all over their shakes. Look at the picture of the burger I received for a TLDR. Yeah, ok. I have to be honest; their milkshakes are pretty good, at least the toasted marshmallow one is. $5 for a small (a little smaller than a grande cup at starbucks) and I think $7 or $8 for a large. Aim for the small b/c the milkshakes are thick, rich, and..delicious. However, multiple complaints with the core seller, the burgers. Someone mentioned that it was an overpriced five guys...well, I'd much rather have a five guys burger than this crap any day. True, it was a decently thick patty, but when you wrap it in foil and apparently form it into the shape of a brick, shame on you. Seriously, you don't deserve to eat another burger in your life. My friends and I never mentioned to-go in our order and for some reason they assumed it was to-go even though there were a lot more patrons sitting down than leaving. Even IF it were to go, WHY DO YOU WRAP YOUR BURGERS LIKE THAT? It smushes the bun so much that the ratio is detestable. Also, it's obvious they use some cheap formless bun if it's capable of getting crushed into that form. So dumb. I've never seen any take-out burger place wrap the burgers like this. But wait, there's more. Partial blame on us for not realizing this until it was too late but apparently if you order one of the signature burgers, what you see is literally what you get. That being said, I expected to see at least one piece of lettuce and a tomato slice on my burger, but no, all I got was meat, bun, some fried dough or something, and generic bbq sauce. I ordered something that started with a C...forgot the name. Taste? Well, it's hard to taste anything but bbq sauce when you douse a bucket-load of it on overcooked meat. Apparently, I THINK you can only get lettuce and tomatoes when you order one of the top 2 choices...I guess a create-your-own type of thing. It doesn't come with all the burgers I guess. Honestly it's a loss on their end b/c if you put those two simple ingredients in, the burger at least seems a bit larger. Finally, I guess they automatically assume you want your burger cooked almost well done. They don't ask you at all. Partial blame on me for not saying anything before I guess? I feel a little bad writing this review because of all the really good reviews. I tried really hard to like this place and I've been here multiple times giving it multiple chances but really, it's just not to my taste. Atmosphere is great - it's hip and casual and fun. Lots of seating and everything is very open. Full sauce bar that you can feel free to get whatever you want. It's a fun place to hangout at night. Food: This is what I can't get... I simply don't like the burgers here. I've had Spike's Sunnyside and I typically love fried eggs on my burgers but this was just too much. It was beyond greasy and beyond messy and the flavors, though good, was overpowering. It made me feel sick thinking about the grease and oil. With no veggies or anything to balance the burger, it was just too much. I felt like I was eating a heart attack. Then I went back and tried their turkey burger. Again, so disappointing! The burger was dry and weird tasting. I don't know what was in the patty but it was not good. I ate it because I was hungry but I did not enjoy it at all. The fries, shakes, and sauces were good. But I've had such poor experiences with the burgers which is their main thing that I couldn't give it more than 3 stars. I read the reviews and chose to ignore the bad reviews thinking that would never happen to me. What bad judgement I have at times. A miserable meal and a miserable experience. Figuring out where to order and pick up were a bit confusing but the almost soul-less zombie at the register managed to explain it. My initial impression wasn't great but, hey, it takes all personality types to make a society and I suppose it is unrealistic to expect everyone to be friendly and accommodating. Ordered a Prez Obama burger, onion pedals and a coke... For here. What I got was a stapled bag and a red plastic basket. "Do-it-yourself " "for here". And the order ticket clearly stating "to go". Okay, I'm down with that; I can make it work. The dining area is bigger than I expected. Basically two of them with TVs. Many of the tables were dirty. I didn't discover that until I put me elbows on the table. Cleaned it myself but I guess that's the price for bad manners. Momma always told me to never put my elbows on the table. The whole time I was there I did not see a single employee even pretend to be cleaning tables and clearing debris left behind by prior diners. One was doing something at the condiment bar but it wasn't really clean afterward so not sure what was really going on. Upon opening the bag I discovered why the probably do things that way. The burger was completely underwhelming in appearance. Messy, which isn't a major problem, but squished so tightly in the wrapper diaper that the bun was compressed into a sticky bready mess. You know, the kind that coats the tongue with nasty goo and gets stuck on the roof of the mouth. And the burger itself was just okay. I completely missed even the essence of Roquefort cheese. The onion petals looked greasy and were greasy. See the picture... So greasy that there was a pool of grease in the cup. The sauce cups are so small that there is no way to get the sauce onto the onion petal. Can't dip or dunk and can't squeeze the cup either. A knife helped but... In conclusion, a complete waste of $15 and a lesson learned: don't disregard Yelp ratings/comments too fast. Oh, and what's up with the 13 cent "enviro charge". Is that what we are paying for your paper waste - paper bags that don't need to be used and the heavy napkin consumption from the greasy food? I debated myself on one or two stars. My generous 2-star alter ego prevailed. But it is really closer to 1.5 stars. EDIT: so I've been burping up that nasty grease for a couple of hours and my stomach can't seem to decide if it wants to vomit or continue processing. Very uncomfortable. After receiving a recommendation to go here by multiple people, we finally took the hint and went. It's a greasy, messy, delicious burger that you will feel guilty eating but it's completely worth it. I had the "Obama burger", and it was the perfect amount of sweet from the onion marmalade and tangy from the Roquefort cheese. Add bacon to that mix and it's a huge win. The spikes village fries, which are dusted in thyme and rosemary, are fresh cut with a variety of fry sauces to pair with. The burgers here are the best in Crystal City. Extremely tasty. The fries here are also great. They put some seasonings on them that make them amazing. And if that's not enough, you have 38 different types of mayo They have mango, chipotle, sriracha, old bay... it's ridiculously too many types. But they are all fairly great. Then there is the line situation, it is so confusing everyone just clumps up in the entrance they don't know where to go. Good Stuff Eatery is certainly a place for decadent burgers and shakes near the Crystal City Shops. Food: The burgers are always juicy and delicious (and greasy, as expected). My go-to is the Steakhouse Burger. Like seriously, I'm getting hungry just thinking about it! I've also had other burgers like the Michelle Melt and the Shroom Burger, and I've always been satisfied going here for lunch! The fries are also very nicely done, and a meal is generally always satisfying. The shakes are very sumptuous. My personal favorite is the Marshmellow shake that (again) is very decadent and pairs nicely with any burger. Ordering a full meal here can be a bit more expensive than the Chick-fil-a next door, but it is definitely more in the "feel good" territory in my opinion. Prez Obama burger is pretty good, but also expensive. I spent nearly $8 for the burger and still left hungry. It is packed with a lot of bacon and has a sweet after taste. Keep in mind that most of their burgers are 1/3 pound. There was slight pinkness in the burger (which I like) so I would say it was around a medium-well. It is very comparable to Shake Shack burgers. The onion blossoms are really good and are super crispy. Overall, just these two items cost me more than $13. The food was good, however, I think I'd still pick Shake Shack over this. I think the burgers are still better than Five Guys and other fast food places - though Five Guys gives more way more food for a similar price. Inside the restaurant are tons of TVs so you can watch sports games while eating. This is a good place to come for after work happy hours. read more

It was tasty, but I doubt I will go back. First, I went after the lunch rush (about 1:15 on a Friday. It wasn't very busy). I hoped that would make things faster, but I waited 13 minutes for a veggie burger and fries. That felt a bit long. If you go there for the meat burgers, you can read all sorts of florid prose about how each individual cow was sung a lullaby each night and fed only the choicest of organic grains with a silver spoon and so on. If you get the veggie burger, it is filled with some kind of velveeta-like pasteurised cheese food product that isn't cheese. The food was served hot and fresh, which is great. I had a 3-block walk back to my office, during which the steam from the fries caused the bag to rip. Luckily I noticed and carried it carefully to avoid dropping my lunch. Props where they're due: the fries are totally yummy. I REALLY liked them. The veggie burger was quite tasty. It looked small, visually, but I was satisfied. It looked smaller on the table than it felt in my belly. So if I'm not in a rush, and if I have a craving for the fries (which I could see happening), I might come back. I was hoping for a quick in-and-out to grab a burger to take back to my office, and this was too slow for that. Good Stuff is within walking distance from Hyatt Regency Crystal City and Courtyard by Marriott. Has line, you place order, get your beverage, find a spot to dine, and wait to be buzzed. Random Fact: The condiment stand offers mayo, ketchup, old bay mayo, siracha mayo, and mango mayo. The cashiers were friendly but the floor staff was not. Trying to find out if there was additional seating or a question was frustrating since it was met with no answer or no acknowledgement. Also getting bumped by the floor staff with no apology gave me all the warm fuzzies. Manners, they matter. I ordered the Prez Obama burger with snack frys and a drink. The burger was good but it was missing the seasoning. It was also very smushed but it did not detract from the goodness. Blue cheese, onion jam, and bacon on a burger is always a great thing! This is my 3rd time at Good Stuff Eatery but my first time at the Crystal City location. It's a bit smaller than the Capitol Hill one but definitely helps that you don't have to go find upstairs seating. It wasn't too crowded when I walked in but I think it was still early for dinner goers since it was around 6:30 or so. They were pretty efficient took my order and within 5-10 mins my order as ready. I ordered the Smokehouse burger without Swiss. I suppose my burger was a bit on the dry side but I take into account that I didn't order cheese which would help with the moisture but still dry compared to the other ones I've tried.the fries weren't as crispy as the last time I got them so I was a bit disappointed. All together my burger and snack fries set me back about 10.50 ish. No drink included. I can't say this was my best experience at Good Stuff but that doesn't mean I won't be returning...I still love their milkshakes and the taste and flavors are still there it just wasn't executed during my visit. read more

they have a "lunchbag" special - burger, fries & a drink for $11 ($12 and some change). Had I NOT ordered the "lunchbag" special, I might have saved some pennies. This special, I'm guessing, is good for the specialty burgers. I ordered a REGULAR burger (no cheese) - the special comes with fries and a fountain drink. I will test this theory next time I go. The fries were EXCELLENT. My burger was just OK - I asked for a plain burger with onions - why did I get to my desk and have pickles, lettuce & tomatoes. My burger bun was soggy!!! YUCK! UPDATE: The owner contacted me within a day after writing my initial review. He took the time to address my specific concerns/complaints and was sincerely apologetic for the situation that transpired. He recognized the oversight and identified the opportunity for them to refine and improve their process. If you want an overpriced burger drink and fries go here. On top of that the service was really bad. I ordered the steakhouse melt during lunch and the place was packed. After waiting for 20 minutes I got the burger which was completely raw on the inside and had raw onions instead of caramelized like the menu said. I looked past this and just took the onions out of the melted cheese. I'm all for having diversity at the workplace but at least train your employees who are making the food to have the patty cooked and add the right ingredients to the order. The fries were undercooked as well and lacked any kind of seasoning/salt. Not coming back here for a while... I used to love this place, I guess their quality has gone down. Service is fast, efficient and done with a smile, seating is plentiful, with seats available even during the lunch rush, and online ordering is easy to do through the Ritual App. The burgers are each listed by a clever name, giving them a thought provoking personality. The Prez Obama Burger is my favorite, featuring applewood bacon, onion marmalade, roquefort cheese, horseradish mayo, and of course a perfectly grilled, thick beef patty. Now for the shakes. They are very thick, very cold, flavorful without being over-sweet, but best of all, topped with a dollop of the richest whipped cream ever. I absolutely hate finishing them! Try the Compass Coffee shake, a regular vanilla with real Compass Coffee poured over it. A magical flavor combination. All these good comments, but only a 4 star review? On my last visit, my shake had pieces of plastic in it, likely a bit of a drinking straw that somehow wound up getting blended up in the blender. The Milky Way shake was not too sweet-malted shake with chocolate caramel drizzled in the side of the cup. Hand cut fries with large grains of salt were extra tasty. Mayo bar- chipotle was my fave, siracha second and mango mayo a delicious third. Oh and ketchup for the traditional. You can pack you deliciousness in tiny cups with lids to you can take it on your journey. I got the Obama burger. I am still depressed about 45, and this place was a ray of sunshine.
