I haven't had a casserole rice in a while and was delighted to find this gem of a place. They make each dish to order, so there is a 15 min wait after you place an order but it is worth it! I had the four treasure casserole rice and the pork ribs/braised beef casserole rice. Both were delicious and I loved the crispy rice that you have to scrap from the edges of the bowl. Each casserole comes with four strands of veggies and a little bowl of soup also. It is a busy place as there is always someone coming in but they are very efficient and turn over tables quickly to accommodate. Tip: they only take cash! Protip: call ahead with your order so that it is ready for when you get there! Extra protip: you can actually request to have the claypot as part of take out. That way you can enjoy the crispy bits of rice in the comforts of your own home. You pay a deposit on it and return it the next time you are there!

This place is busy and has not much decoration. The server has good memory and won't mess up the waiting order. Since the place has long cook soup and hot pot rice, all these dish takes 15-20mins to wait. They are so efficient that even I have not get my table, they place my order! Hence it only take few minutes to get the soup and rice out after I get the table. All dish has good amount of ingredients and NO MSG. Taste so good . Price is low for those dish. Hot pot rice is $12.99 and stew soup is $6.99. I believe if I go to other restaurants, these dish cost double. I order chicken stew soup and duck stew soup. They are like mom make stew! The rice noodle with shrimp can taste it is freshly cook. Yum. Hot pot rice with Chinese sausage and Japanese eel is perfectly cook with fry rice and not burn at the bottom. This hot pot rice also goes with stew pear and pork soup and veggies. Very homey food and comfy food for me. I minus 1 star is due to the no Reno. If you just want good food, this is a go to place.

A little out of the way for me but when my car needs scheduled servicing which is in this area, this is my go to clay pot rice place. It's been a year since my last servicing/visit and the place remains the same, thank goodness! On a cold winter's day, their claypot rice gives you a warm summery vibe. Ordered the preserved meat & duck claypot & chicken salted fish claypot rice Free hot pear soup accompanies the claypot. Something about hot soup that soothes your inner soul during cold winter days Preserved duck was a little overcooked. Rest of preserved meat/sausage done well. Oil from the meats enhanced the flavor of the rice. Salted fish flavor paired well with the bland chicken pieces (mostly dark meat). Rice developed a nice crunchy crust in both clay pots. Very satisfying dishes

Our absolute favorite restaurant in Markham Canada! The clay pot rice is an absolute MUST!!! You get this diluted soup and service which both isn't very good but the rest is amazing that still deserve my 4 shiny stars! I don't even have to mention much of the items but we got anchovies with spare ribs clay pot rice, their 4 treasure which is eel, Chinese sausage lop churn, Chinese meat lop yuk and BBQ pork and very flavorful and the last one is smooth chicken with eel. The best part is ALWAYS the crispy rice that sticks to the pot. DO NOT THROW THAT OUT!!!!! Put your arm muscles to work and scrap every bit of that deliciousness out of the pot. Just look at my last picture. I would eat the pot if my stomach can possibly digest it! Don't forget their sweet soy sauce. Pour a generous amount, mix mix mix and your tummy will thank you!!!

Came on a Wednesday night, and we waited about 30 mins for a table. Extremely packed and only about 10 tables in the restaurant. They need to give some numbers out for the waitlist instead of using their memory to remember who came first. At least while we were waiting, they gave us the menu and we got to preorder our food and when we sat down, our food came not too long after. The menu is extensive and has lots of different clay pot options. We ordered #5 (Four Treasures: $12.99), #74 (Chicken Feet Ribs: $12.99), and #48 (Peanut Rice Noodle Roll: $5.80). Each person gets a complimentary soup and small plate of Chinese broccoli with their dish. I really enjoyed the Four Treasures one. Super filling and flavourful. The Chicken Feet one was ok, and just to note, the ribs aren't the usual Chinese spareribs you'd get at dim sum. Overall, this place is super affordable and the dishes are good. It can get super packed and long line ups. I would come again when it's quieter and try out some other dishes.

Great place for your classic clay pot rice. Comes with a side of veggies and soup. This is the ultimate comfort food. We came about an hour before close and customers were still continuously coming in. Small restaurant with only a few tables. Service is non existent but that's not unexpected for a place like this. Food comes out pretty quick.

Cash only No frills old school Chinese restaurant that serves only claypot rice and rice rolls. Each claypot rice comes with small dish of boiled Shanghai bak choi and soup of the day. The veggie and soup comes without salt and you can add salt to your taste. The table has peanut sauce (so good), soy sauce (that has so much umami and slightly sweet that it pretty much goes with anything), hot sauce, and table salt. We ordered 3 claypot rices which are the salted fish meat patty, baby shrimp with lap churn and egg, and pork ribs, scallops and shrimp plus an egg. The ribs, scallops and shrimp were my favorite because of the flavor of all the protein seep into the rice and enhanced the flavor of the rice as it cooks. However, they were all great and you couldn't go wrong with any. We also ordered the rice roll with diced water chestnut, carrots, celery, mushroom. This is one of those old school flavor that not many people like but we loved. Overall a great meal if you crave claypot rice. Service is good - no frills.

We ordered through Uber eats and the value was still decent. The rice averages $15 per pot and you can add $3 for extra meat. There was so much meat that we couldn't finish and had leftovers. The rice was nice and hot. Comes in an aluminum foil container. The only reason why I couldn't give the full 5 stars was there wasn't enough of the rice crust at the bottom. Not sure if it's because it's Uber and they had to rush the cooking. Each meal comes with a small container of veg and also a soup or drink. We also ordered the rice rolls and that was very tasty! It was smooth and delicious.

Came here for dinner with family. It was suggested by my foodie niece. I agree with most of her Asian recommendations, with the exception of deserts. She knows nothing about deserts! There were 5 of us, and we all order a different claypots. Without getting too long winded, as I tend to do, is that overall, the food is good. The value is good. Below is what was ordered: - Corn & pork rice rolls (chung-fun) 5/5 - Beef rice rolls (chung-fun) 5/5 - Chicken & Scallops claypot 4/5 - Chicken & Mushroom claypot 3/5 - Preserved Meats claypot 4/5 They have 3 locations, this is the original and is located in New Kennedy Square mall. The place is small, maybe 10 tables, and is staffed with older Chinese ladies with limited English. I'm "Jook-sing" (Canadian-Chinese, can barely speak Cantonse). Luckily, my niece could speak and was able to order for us. The funny thing is the menu has English & Chinese descriptions. The interior is not much to look at. It's not trendy and has a working class caffiteria food counter vibe. So would I come back? Yes. If you feel nostalgic for traditional Hong Kongish street fare, this should check all the boxes.... my 2 cents. PS. It's cash only, no debit or credit cards.

Great hole in the wall for claypot rice. Portions are huge and food is delicious, comes with free soup and side of veggies. They actually cook the rice in the claypot for a bit so you get a layer of crispy rice at the bottom, this adds great texture to the dish. My pork ribs with salted fish and raw egg on rice was delicious! The pork ribs were well marinated and the pop of salt from the salted fish and creaminess from the raw egg meshed so well together. Every bite made me want to take another. The added texture of the crispy rice was really great and definitely added to the dish as well. The rice noodle roll was amazing, probably the smoothest in the city and best rice noodle rolls I ever had. I tried the rice noodle rolls at their other locations and none were as good as this location, so if you're visiting this particular location, definitely get an order of rice noodle rolls. The service is typical for any hole in the wall Chinese restaurant, quick and efficient but don't expect anything over the top. Definitely my favourite place for claypot rice in the city!

Rice was delicious and perfect! Exactly like the delightful crunchy side edges of the rice I expected! They executed it perfectly! Portions were great. Our server was so nice! We only had USD and she allowed for us to do the conversion and didn't charge us for any conversion rate. It's a little small and a hole in the wall but u definitely get that perfect authentic clay pot rice!

Came here for a quick lunch, they had a lot of variety for casserole rice bowls and rice rolls. The prices were very affordable as well. The casserole we got was good but the flavours were a bit bland. The rice was crispy at the bottom and it was topped with a good portion of fish and sausage, however the dish overall lacked flavour. The house special rice roll was amazing. Overall I would recommend this place!

The use of traditional elements, paper-cut window designs, red Spring Festival couplets, old-style newspaper wall coverings, and exposed brick adds a strong sense of nostalgia. It feels immersive and intentional, almost like stepping into a countryside home in Dongbei rather than a typical restaurant. The décor isn't fancy, but it's rich in cultural detail and warmth, perfectly matching the hearty, comforting style of Northeast Chinese cuisine. The space is unique and perfect for taking photos. The food here is very generous. We ordered the 4-person set with two side pots. Tomato Braised Beef Brisket and Chicken Stewed with Mushrooms and the portions were huge. Both pots arrived steaming hot and filled to the brim, clearly meant for sharing. The braised beef was rich and hearty, while the chicken pot was comforting and full of flavor, making it perfect for group dining or cold weather meals. Combined with the rustic, traditional décor, it really feels like authentic Northeast Chinese comfort food. The food and atmosphere were excellent, though the service was a bit lacking. Prices are reasonable for the generous portion sizes and the unique restaurant décor.

I was hoping to find something special on the menu. The Peking duck caught my eye at around $70, but then I discovered that almost everything else was extra--lettuce wraps, stir-fried duck meat, fried rice, and soup. By the time you add the extras, the bill is easily another $50 or more, bringing the total to well over $120. We decided to pass, and judging from the dishes we did order, that was probably the right decision. The hot and sour soup had plenty of heat and tang but lacked depth of flavor and was under-seasoned for my taste. Fortunately, we only ordered a small bowl. The deep-fried tofu was bland and forgettable. The stir-fried shrimp was acceptable but nothing special. The biggest disappointment was the sweet and sour pork. I specifically asked the server to make sure the pork was crispy, but it arrived soft and lumpy rather than light and crunchy. Even the complimentary red bean dessert soup was watery and lacked flavor. Our bill came to about $104 for two people. For the quality of the food, I didn't feel it offered good value. Sadly, after several disappointing visits, I don't think we'll be returning.

The lid on my shredded potato salad wasn't on properly and the sauce leaked through my Fantuan bag. The food gets five stars. Sadly, the lid on my potato salad wasn't securely on the container. I had my food in my insulated bag, so the sauce leaked into the Fantuan bag and my insulated bag. Luckily, my car was fine. As a result, my rating is four stars. I wanted to try a new eatery. I looked at my Fantuan app and noticed He Bei Chinese Cuisine. It had dumplings and snacks that I enjoy, so I said yes to placing a dinner order from this eatery. I ordered these items: - Pork and chive steamed dumplings (large has 14 dumplings) - Tea eggs - Shredded potato salad On Fantuan, when you purchase $15 worth of food, you get the shredded potato salad for a cent. Deal! After placing my order near my home, I drove over to this eatery. The drive was ten minutes. I was given an estimated time of fifteen minutes. It was ready in ten minutes. I had no problem finding this eatery. There was plenty of parking. I pulled into a spot and walked in. I saw the Yubu sign. My heart sank, as I loved the Korean tofu pockets from this joint. I liked seeing places to sit down and eat at He Bei. Nice! A woman behind the counter came over. I said that I had a Fantuan order. She talked to me in Mandarin. I don't understand it, but we were fine communicating with each other in our languages. She pointed out the blue Fantuan bag on the table behind me. I thanked her and wished her a nice day. She said thanks right back. I put my food in my insulated bag. With the leak, I managed to launder the Fantuan bag and clean my insulated bag. After I cleaned up, I had dinner at home. The food was amazing and filling! I loved the shredded potato salad. Sure, a lot of the sesame-soy sauce was gone. However, it tasted yummy. It was worth the cent! The steamed pork and chive dumplings were so good. I didn't dunk them in soy sauce. The filling had so much moisture that I felt like I was eating soup dumplings. The filling had yummy flavour and the dumplings were steamed to perfection. Excellent! You can buy frozen dumplings from this place. I'll need to do it. The tea eggs were the perfect snack while streaming hockey games. I peeled the shells off both of them. The eggs were cracked to allow the amazing soy-based sauce to marinate and get into the eggs. Delicious! I'm a fan. I'll take a closer look at the lids on my food next time. I'm glad that I put food in my insulated bag. It saved cleaning my car's upholstery! (59)

Due to the massive crowds, servers can be hard to flag down, orders take a long time to arrive, and the staff often feels rushed or inattentive. Despite the frustrating wait times and subpar service, the spectacular flavors and theatrical presentation make it a worthwhile destination for patient seafood lovers.Watch the massive lobster towers being prepared and served fresh at this iconic spot

The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there's a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There's plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I've never been a huge fan of this dish that's served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it's the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn't skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the "main dishes", the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.

They have different special offers each day from Monday to Friday. We ordered the special Linyi Style Stir Fried Chicken on Friday. And we also ordered Boiled Basa Fish with pickled Cabbage & Green Pepper. They were pretty traditional Chinese styles. The white rice or brown rice both can have as much as we could. That's good for men. We both like here, but they don't offer specials during the weekends. But they do have other special packages, just a bit different. And they also have the membership that we could collect points and then we could use the points to get drinks or different snacks or dishes.

New sauerkraut fish soup spot in Markham…read more A chain from asia that has finally made it's way to Markham. They are known for their sauerkraut fish soup that comes with unlimited self serve rice on the side. Servers were attentive, spacing of the seating and tables were tight. Often times people kept brushing up against my chair while getting up to go get their rounds of rice. Although not a deal breaker, was annoying while trying to enjoy your food. The portions are big enough for 2 if you get a large, but since it was our first time we wanted to try 2 different soups. Here's what we got: Chicken wings 4/5 - Came out raw the first time after we bit into it. But quickly flagged a server to let them know how this issue. They brought us a new one shortly after that was perfectly cooked, juicy and crispy on the outside. Laotan boiled fish with pickled cabbage and chili 4/5 - Their number one classic so we had to try. It's sour and spicy with the right amount of kick to it. Basa fish filets were also tasty. Came out luke warm. Princess's tomato fish 4/5 - Packed with tomato flavour. Savoury and paired well with the basa fish filet. Came with bean curd noodles as well. Came out luke warm. Easily would be a five star review if both soups that we got came out piping hot rather than lukewarm. Regardless, a great spot for a quick in and out meal.

Wait list is old school...someone writes your name and number in a notebook and you are called when your table is ready. The interior is reminiscent of the old school taverns you see in those old Chinese movies where the traveller has spent days walking or on a horse and comes upon a tavern where the interior is all wooden tables and benches. Dining style and dishes are all family style. You order a couple of dishes and then add rice. Spice level can be adjusted and even at 'less' the heat level was high. Definitely generous use of Szechwan peppercorns! Food is very flavourful and depending on preference some might find the oil level high. The clientele is mainly Mandarin speaking and if you are Asian they will immediately communicate in Mandarin with you but I did see the staff switch to English where needed. Service was patient and attentive.
