This is a family run restaurant that consists of the husband/wife/ grandma and daughter. I came last night for dinner with my parents and we ordered the original casserole with preserved meat, one with sticky rice and the other with normal rice and also a chicken casserole. All meals come with soup and veggies on the side which are not salted. You have to salt those yourself. The food and portion were good. Good value clay pot rice for under $15! I usually get the 4 treasure which comes with grilled eel, preserved sausage, preserved pork belly, and preserved duck. I love the taste of the meats and the portion is pretty fair for the price. It also comes with a soup and veggies as well. Many people don't know this, but the soup and veggies don't come salted, so you do have to add salt/soy sauce to taste when you get the food. Same for the clay pot rice as well, you'll have to add the soy sauce yourself and mix the rice right away so they don't stick to the edges. Deducting a star for the service. And their expanding menu keeps the hunger growls at bay while the 20-minutes elapse. Their BBQ pork rice noodle roll ($4.70) was a great 'appetizer' to share, soft and silky with large slices of pork- even though it wasn't the most evenly spread out across the roll. I'm perplexed how some restaurants continue to keep prices low with soaring input costs. Good Taste offers their preserved meat and chicken with rice for $11.99, which is only a dollar more than 5 years prior. They haven't skimped on ingredients - if anything there's more protein topping the rice - and it still comes with a side of boiled yu-choy and a pot of soup where the hunk of pork, fruit, and white fungus remains. The execution continues to satisfy: the rice a balanced moisture so that it's fluffy but still dry enough so a golden crunchy crust develops on the bottom. While I'm normally not a huge fan of the greasiness of preserved meat, it's the perfect topping in this dish and keeps the rice from getting soggy. When I went to Hong Kong a few years ago, one of my biggest disappoints in terms of food was this very popular and very crowded joint offering Cantonese casserole rice. The whole dish was just ridiculously bland and the included Chinese sausage was basically like jerky. So when the opportunity arose to visit a restaurant specializing in said dish, I was understandably a little on the skeptical side. I shouldn't have worried. I ordered a very similar dish to what I received in Hong Kong, in this case it was Preserved Meat & BBQ Eel w/ Rice, but the differences between the two dishes couldn't have been more pronounced. Everything here works beautifully well. The rice is perfectly cooked and enhanced by the delicious included sauce, while the various meat components on top are flavorful and tender. Eaten all together and you've got one of the tastiest rice-based dishes I can remember eating in quite some time. (And you certainly can't go wrong with the crispy bits of rice along the sides of the bowl.) (We also received an odd yet surprisingly good soup to start, as it contained different types of fruits and a chunk of meat.) I have been to the new Kennedy square location many times as well but this Bamburgh circle location is my preferred choice because the seats are more comfortable and spacious and everything feels newer and cleaner. Both locations have the same menu and same great taste. The price is very reasonable and affordable. The rice comes with a small plate of vegetables and a soup. There is a good portion of meat in the casserole rice and the casserole rice is freshly made every time so the wait is slightly longer around 10 mins. I visited Good Taste Casserole Rice with my family for a quick lunch, and we had an overall good time. The food may be too ethnic for the general public, but it provides great value and a unique dining experience. From the outside, the restaurant has clear glass walls and a red signage with large Chinese characters. Inside, it is quite spacious with heavily padded seats that make for a comfortable experience. Clay pot takes about 10-15 mins to get ready, of course depending on how busy the store is. CLAY POT IS 10/10! Highly recommend. If you want other suggestions, i would say try the chinese sausage with steam chicken, or chinese sausage with chinese duck. They have an eel option. The eel is great, personally just dont think it its good with clay pot. No offence to the people who loves it. But regardless, people went back to that location and there's always a line. So I'm very happy they have this new location now! I always love a good sip on the "old fire" soup (if you know what I mean LOL) but as always, they don't add salt, so you can salt it to your liking as low sodium diets are a thing now. There are numerous clay pots to choose from with toppings ranging from preserved meats to minced pork/beef with egg to some fish options. Their clay pots come with a dish of veggies and a traditional Chinese soup or a pop. The rice always comes out sizzling hot with that awesome layer of crunchy rice at the bottom. There is a bottle of sweet soy sauce at each table that you can add to your rice when mixing for more flavour. Sweet soy sauce is the key to happiness! I highly recommend the rice noodle rolls. I previously visited their location on Kennedy and there's always a huge lineup because they're that good! I was extremely excited when I found out and ordered the chinese sausage and chicken rice for takeout for lunch. I always ate it at the restaurant and as excite as I was, I was a little unsure of how it will turn out and if it will be as good as eating in the restaurant because they make it out of the clay pot. When I unpacked my takeout, they made the rice in a tin foiled container inside the pot. So my rice came in the original tin foil container they cooked in and the rice at the very bottom was crispy just like eating at the restaurant! Like eating at the location, you get a side of veggies and soup. That day, I got the apple soup. What I love most about it is they do not put salt in their soup, their soup is very similar to what my mom will make a home which I like. I was also not aware my meal comes with a drink. The rice is freshly made once you order, so it's maybe a 15 minutes wait after you order. They support a lot of delivery services so throughout the hour we were there, we kept seeing drivers come in and picking up their delivery order. Heart warming meal, love the ginseng soup. The casserole rice is a must try, along with the rice roles.

I've been here many times but haven't had a chance to review until now. I always order the pork meat + Chinese sausage. The food is consistent and tastes great! The only thing I'm not a huge fan of is the soup (you can choose a pop instead). However, that's just my personal preference, the other ppl I dine with all like it but it is an option to get a pop instead at no extra charge. read more
