The group I went out to Goodfellas was looking for a causal place to watch television, eat some tasty food, and drink a couple of cold ones. We were able to do all three at Goodfellas. Everyone I was with really enjoyed their pizza especially the pizza with pineapple and jalepenos. Trust your nose on this one! We were immediately drawn to the familiar Brooklyn pizza scent wafting in front of the restaurant, having grown up on Brooklyn pizza. If you are familiar with Brooklyn style pizza, then you won't be disappointed by the cheese pizza. Nice amount of sauce which has fragrant oregano, basil and garlic... Mildly sweet dough that's crispy yet doughy. The X-factor which gives this a 5-star rating are the guys behind the counter. They are proud of their product, boasting of their homemade dough, sauce, roasted garlic which they use in some of their pizzas, etc. They helped carry our food to the outside tables. Good place for lunch and/or dinner. Service was friendly. Get a large (bigger than your head) sliced pizza for an excellent price, unlike Lucy blues, where you get a tiny and wimpy slice for 6 bucks. As far as Cincy area pizza is concerned this place is top notch. The $6 lunch special includes a huge slice, a monster size breadstick, and soda. Can't beat that! The crust was a little thick and doughy, but the taste was fresh and had a nice tang from the tomatoes and oregano. This is a small joint though, with no tables inside and limited outside seating. This place is hit or miss depending on who is making the pizza. Not for nothing but you need one person there 6 days a week for lunch making the pies and one person there 6 days a week making the pies at night. That is the only way to pull off any consistency. Every time I go there there is a different person making the pizza. Hence why every time I go there the pizza looks and tastes different. Sometimes it's beautiful and thin all the way through, most of the time it is terribly thick at the crust end. Also sometimes there is more cheese, sometimes very little cheese. Same with the sauce, sometimes a lot(too much), sometimes a little. There have been countless occasions also where a mid afternoon visit only has pepperoni or cheese selection or just one selection. that's fine, nothing wrong there...but.... the fact that you cannot have a plain slice and ask them to add a topping and heat up that slice is ludicrous. The options are terribly limited in-between lunch and dinner. I don't get why there isn't a half/half pie and one plain pie. there is only pepperoni or cheese Anyways, what i do is pick up plain and just add toppings at home. Goodfellas pizza can be the best pizza I had in months or it can be completely average with a crust that is wayyy too thick and lacking cheese. For the price(4 dollars a slice) there should be ample cheese. That being said sometimes when i go in there it is fantastic. It's usually when the girl is making the pizza. She tosses a mean thin pizza. Now to the bad. You need to get rid of that big pizza guy with the huge black beard. First of all besides it is massively unsanitary for starters the guy is cancer to your place. Numerous times being rude making snive remarks under his breath while people are ordering. I have watched this guy let his co-worker drown with a full counter of customers while he moves at 2 mph rolling his eyes, throwing your equipment around with no sense of urgency whatsoever while his co-worker is literally drowning in front of him on "multiple occasions". I have seen him not even check on his "one" pizza in the oven while his co-worker is scrambling trying to take care of 10 people at once on numerous occasions. Then the counter person has to stop attending to the 10 patrons waiting.... to check on his freaking "one" pizza. The laziness and lack of teamwork is disgusting on his part. The guy doesn't even check on his "one" pizza. One pizza, can i reiterate that enough? I have never seen such bs in a restaurant in my life and I have worked in restaurants and catering for 20 years. If I worked there he would be escorted out by his neck immediately. I cannot believe other employees have not brought this up before. I can't imagine they haven't. They have to have said something about this. it's disgusting at best and stains your business to the core. Now for the good. You have a good product when it is made correctly. New York slices are thin all the way through and sometimes they are at Goodfellas. When it is made correctly by one of your staff your pizza by far is the best thin slice in the tri-state bar none. It is just flat out great for being in Kentucky. Also every other person I have encountered behind the counter are awesome. They are extremely nice and have a great attitude and need to be commended. The place needs 2 dedicated salaried pizza makers instead of 10 different people trying to make the same product. It will never be consistent that way. Went to Goodfellas for the first time on Friday. Holy cow that was a good pizza. Absolutely delicious. And listen - I've worked for four different pizza places over the course of a dozen years. So I do know a little about pizza. I can make a large pepperoni in under 40 seconds. So let me tell you, this pizza is superb. If I lived in Covington, I would go twice a week.
